Easter for Western Christians can never occur before March 22 nor later than April 25, according to the Astronomical Applications Department.
Easter varies every year because the date depends on the moon, sort of. The holiday coincides with the first Sunday after the paschal full moon, which is the first full moon after the vernal equinox
The vernal equinox occurred March 19 this year. The first full moon will be March 25
the first Sunday after the arrival of the full moon
However, the Christian church has a fixed date − March 21, which is called the ecclesiastical date − for the full moon and March equinox
But that date doesn't always line up with the astronomical start of spring known as the vernal equinox

Woodlawn and South Shore residents are protesting Aquinnah Investment Trust’s proposal to build a 26-story hotel next to Island Terrace
an affordable housing development in Woodlawn
Philon Green was forced to move out of Woodlawn because of skyrocketing rent prices
He wanted to stay at Jackson Park Terrace — down the street from the under-construction Obama Presidential Center — but his landlord raised the rent from about $800 to $1,300
Green said the property wasn’t in the best condition
Being priced out of the neighborhood was a concern shared at a protest Tuesday morning by other Woodlawn and South Shore residents
who now fear rental prices will rise if a proposed luxury hotel gets city approval
Dixon Romeo is an organizer with the Obama Community Benefits Agreement Coalition
“When you got people’s rent going from $850 to $1,300
You’re telling people you don’t want them in the neighborhood,” said Dixon Romeo
an organizer with the Obama Community Benefits Agreement Coalition
The group organized the protest at the project’s vacant, grass-covered lot, not far from the Obama Presidential Center campus
Aquinnah Investment Trust wants to build a 26-story hotel next door to Island Terrace, an affordable housing development at 6430 S. Stony Island Ave. The investment firm is headed by Allison Davis
a veteran real estate developer and lawyer who was Obama’s first boss out of Harvard Law School
according to documents filed with the city
Aquinnah owns three parcels of land at the site
The Department of Planning and Development said it plans to sell the plots to Aquinnah at fair market value
according to application documents for the project
the company submitted a rezoning application for the project
which is currently zoned for a shopping center
the city’s Zoning Committee postponed its vote on the proposal
Residents at Tuesday’s protest urged City Council members to vote no
Woodlawn and South Shore residents protest Aquinnah Investment Trust’s proposal to build a 26-story hotel next to Island Terrace
“When you can fast-track a luxury hotel — while everyone around that hotel lives in blight
knowing that that’ll raise the price to push them out — you’re intentionally trying to gentrify a neighborhood,” Romeo said
Residents blame the Obama Center as the reason for rent increases and the displacement of residents
They said the massive project has attracted “predatory” developers
who have targeted the area in recent years
Curbing development around that area has been a 10-year fight for activists in the coalition
which proposed a Community Benefits Agreement to protect neighborhood residents
The agreement includes a slate of policies including property tax relief
mortgage refinancing and rental assistance
It has received verbal support from Mayor Brandon Johnson and other residents but has not been approved by the City Council
Courtney Chism has lived in her South Shore apartment for one year
The rent for her three-bedroom apartment started out high
pointing to the Obama Center as the reason
“You’re talking about developers who have bought these buildings and are now letting them deteriorate in hopes of selling them at a higher price because the value of the land is worth a lot more than it is to have the value of the tenants,” she said
“The tax credits and the opportunity zone that are all here due to the Obama Center all make it more enticing.”
has lived at Island Terrace for more than 30 years
Her rent recently increased by $60 at the affordable housing development — the most it’s ever gone up
but I really like the location,” Thompson said
“But I’d have to leave if they raised it more
I’d probably have to go to a senior building.”
said the policies outlined in the community benefits agreement are crucial to helping long-term residents stay in the neighborhood
“These people are the ones who make the neighborhood,” he said

The South Shore Cultural District remains in limbo as the city prioritizes funding and resources for other cultural districts
pushing any substantial progress on South Shore until at least Fiscal Year 2027
A recent city memo from Anthony Segura
interim director of the Economic Development Department
explained that despite City Council’s directive to support economic and cultural development in the area
financial constraints and conflicting policy priorities mean support for the district won’t arrive for more than a year while the area continues to undergo development
City Council initially approved the South Shore Cultural District as part of a broader effort to strengthen Austin’s cultural and economic districts
The district was intended to enhance the cultural fabric of the South Shore area by incorporating public space improvements
cultural programming and support for local businesses and artists in the region that includes the Long Center
Umlauf Sculpture Garden and portions of Zilker Park
Before allocating resources to any new districts
the city committed to first fulfilling obligations to already-existing cultural areas
including the African American Cultural Heritage District
the Fifth Street Mexican American Heritage Corridor
the Red River Cultural District and the existing Souly Austin districts
no dedicated staff or funding will be available for South Shore until at least FY 27
EDD is currently focused on completing work on cultural districts with preexisting obligations
including infrastructure projects and funding agreements
One of the key obstacles facing South Shore and other emerging cultural districts is the lack of a structured funding mechanism by the city
cultural districts have been funded on an ad hoc basis
with resources allocated through budget recommendations and special revenue funds
Council has directed EDD to develop the Equitable Cultural District Funding Model
which is expected to be presented in spring or summer 2025
This model aims to ensure consistent funding
taking into account factors such as historical underinvestment and economic impact
the timeline for implementing the model remains uncertain
The South Shore Cultural District encompasses a mix of public and private developments
but several financial and resource limitations are slowing progress in making needed improvements
including adding pedestrian-friendly pathways and accessibility upgrades
Several separate municipal projects are under consideration within the district
with the construction of a new Dougherty Arts Center and major improvements to the Umlauf Sculpture Garden among the efforts under consideration for inclusion in the city’s expected 2026 bond proposal
The memo notes that after completing commitments to existing cultural districts
city staff will begin working on new district development in accordance with the Economic and Cultural District Framework Policy
Full implementation likely won’t take place until well beyond 2027
The delayed action on the cultural district adds to the state of flux for the overall South Central Waterfront Initiative
which was designed to somewhat guide the development of 118 acres south of Lady Bird Lake to include enhanced public spaces
Progress in the area has been slowed by legal challenges
The Save Our Springs Alliance filed a lawsuit against the city in May 2024
challenging the approval of the Statesman Planned Unit Development
which allows for high-density mixed-use construction on the former Austin American-Statesman property
a Travis County district judge invalidated a proposed tax increment reinvestment zone in April 2024
eliminating a key funding source for infrastructure improvements in the area
City Council postponed the adoption of the South Central Waterfront Combining District and Density Bonus Program

Home News South Shore Yacht Club Junior Program Builds Community and Sailing Skills
The South Shore Yacht Club Junior Program has been an integral part of Milwaukee
when Past Commodore William “Bill” J
Lawrie and Albert Nickel founded it to foster youth sailing
From humble beginnings in Lawrie’s basement
the program has grown tremendously through the dedication of countless volunteers and leaders
young sailors gathered wherever space was available – from a simple shed to the club’s basement – until 2006
when members realized their dream of building a dedicated clubhouse after years of fundraising
under the leadership of Commodores Vic Weiler and Helen “Cookie” Mueller
the program achieved nonprofit status as the SSYC Junior Sailing Foundation
allowing it to better serve its mission of teaching sailing to local youth
Through more than 80 years of continuous operation
the program has remained committed to its founding vision of encouraging the sport of sailing while building community among young people on Milwaukee’s south shore
The South Shore Yacht Club Junior Program is dedicated to making sailing accessible to all youth in the greater Milwaukee area
The club’s inclusive program welcomes children ages 8 to 18
regardless of prior sailing experience or yacht club affiliation
the program is structured to remove common barriers to entry – parents don’t need to be club members or own boats to enroll their children
They also offer need-based scholarships through the South Shore Sailing Foundation
which was founded to support young sailors ages 8-11 with both program fees and necessary equipment
Recipients are awarded a scholarship on an annual basis – and may be re-applied at registration the following year
The club keeps the Junior membership fee affordable at $50 a year and includes it within the lesson pricing structure to maintain affordability
Sailors are able to participate in annual events throughout the year such as monthly ‘meet ups’
speakers and seminars when it’s not practical to be out on the water
The program is guided by an advisory committee that works to maintain their standards of education as well as fostering a supportive community environment
The committee focuses on developing high-quality instructional programming
organizing both on-water and off-water activities that build lasting friendships and creating opportunities for young sailors to give back to the local community
South Shore Yacht Club’s junior program has boats to support kids from the beginning to their adult sailing life
From Optis to Club 420s to a Lightning that juniors can race in the adult racing series
they have a range of boats that kids can use to further their sailing goals
“Watching my kid grow each summer through the South Shore Yacht Club Junior’s sailing program has been incredible,” said Chris Manley
a parent and South Shore Sailing Foundation board member
“He’s learned technical aspects of sailing
The instructors have done an amazing job of creating an environment where he feels challenged yet still supported and encouraged
He’s made new friendships and it’s been wonderful to see them working together as a team during lessons and regattas.”

Nearly two weeks after a private meeting between city officials
the property owner and residents about the unlivable conditions of the building at 6952-58 S
the city has filed a lawsuit against the owners of the courtyard building formerly managed by CKO Real Estate
The City of Chicago filed the complaint with the Illinois Municipal Department of the Circuit Court of Cook County on April 22
alleging that the owners of the apartment complex on Paxton Avenue failed to comply with multiple municipal codes for the city
The defendants are listed as GRV Jackson Park LLC
the mortgage company; and unknown owners and non-record claimants
In response to questions about the possibility of condemning the Paxton property
the city provided The TRiiBE with its court filings
The city also filed an emergency petition to appoint a receiver
alleging “that dangerous and hazardous conditions exist” at 6952-58 S
The petition also states that “these dangerous and hazardous conditions pose an imminent threat of irreparable harm and injury to the health
safety and welfare of the public and occupants” of the property
If granted by the Circuit Court of Cook County
the emergency petition would transfer possession of the property to a court-appointed receiver to create a feasibility study “regarding the care
and repair of the subject property.” The receiver would have to “correct conditions that fail to conform to minimum standards of health and safety;” and make needed repairs
Southside Together organizer Sahar Punjwani said that she feels the city needs to do more to alert tenants of these actions
Punjwani attended the private meeting on April 10 and is coordinating organizing efforts for the tenants of the former CKO-managed properties
“It’s not being communicated how all of this will impact the tenants,” Punjwani said
“I think if the city wants to prioritize the safety of the tenants
which they’ve been saying they want to
it’s important for them to [include] the tenants in all of their plans
which means communicating with the tenants about any plans they have to condemn the building
communicating with the tenants about how receivership can impact them.”According to the petition filed by the city
if vacating the property is deemed appropriate
the receiver would be authorized to provide relocation assistance to all tenants and occupants
The property comprises three stories and 31 apartment units
Punjwani also stated that the city has been giving property owners too much “leeway.” She says the owners of 6952-58 S
have problems at the other buildings they own
In February, property management company CKO Real Estate told tenants that they shuttered its operations due to “internal corporate restructuring.” Since then
tenants in formerly CKO-managed buildings across the 5th and 7th wards say they have gone without heat and hot water
They want the city to hold CKO and the property owners accountable
In addition to the emergency receivership petition and the filed complaint
the city has also summoned the principal of CKO Real Estate
along with Merchants Bank of Indiana and other “unknown owners and non-record claimants” of the property at 6952-58 S
Patel did not respond to a request for comment on the summons
Patel previously told The TRiiBE he had not been associated with the South Shore buildings for “some months” and could not comment on the conditions of the properties
residents of the former CKO-managed buildings and Southside Together say they attended a private meeting with Chicago Department of Buildings Commissioner Marlene Hopkins; a lawyer with the city’s legal department
one of the owners of the former CKO building at 6952-58 S
Lauren Lampert Wolkowicki; a Halsted Taylor representative
Kaylyn Fox; and the tenant liaison for the building owners Jerome Faulkner
according to a press release from Southside Together
who confirmed he attended the private meeting
he said he didn’t recall hearing the city mention condemning the building at the meeting
He said he learned about this after meeting with Southside Together on April 22
I think it’s shameful when landlords are irresponsible and allow building maintenance to be neglected,” Yancy said in a text message
“Renters need more protection from bad landlords
which has in it an Office of Tenant Advocacy
to provide a stopgap to prevent things like this from happening.”
The TRiiBE also reached out to Halsted Taylor
and is still awaiting responses. At an April 22 press conference
tenants who attended the April 10 private meeting said they received a verbal agreement from Wolkowicki
that they could break their leases without financial penalty and would not be responsible for back rent
Those tenants say they are waiting on a written confirmation on the agreement
Wolkowicki did not respond to a request for comment
said she has been dealing with water damage
rodents and unsafe conditions in her apartment and throughout the building
The violations include water damage due to leaking radiators and faulty windows.During the press conference
Shirley Lonergan said she’s lived at the Paxton Avenue complex for eight months and soon discovered mold that she believes the landlord painted over
She said is scared to withhold rent because she doesn’t want an eviction on her record
“CKO said they were gonna send somebody out here
they’re telling us that it’s the new owner,” Lonergan said
Some of those residing in the formerly CKO-managed buildings have formed a tenant group to hold the management company responsible
Although they’ve previously laid out these demands
they are still waiting for the building owners to comply — and for the city to provide enforcement:

It's NFL Draft season
a new wave of standout college players will transform into incoming rookies
we're partial to the South Shore high school football scene
And so, our annual mock draft of local players lives on for the fourth straight year
What if teams were not allowed to pick prospects from Alabama
how about they put the fate of their franchises in the hands of South Shore All-Scholastics
Follow me into the make-believe multiverse in which the South Shore's best high school football players and NFL decision-makers collide
it appears the Titans have determined that Miami QB Cam Ward is a no-brainer pick
They could go in a couple of different directions here
Maas becomes the first player in the history of professional sports to be chosen No. 1 in back-to-back drafts (we had the Chicago Bears select Maas at the top of last year's mock draft)
The 6-foot-5 senior quarterback amassed 2,000 yards of total offense and recorded 26 combined TDs (19 passing
7 rushing) and 7 interceptions for Marshfield last fall
He led the Rams to the Division 2 state final in 2023
and Tennessee needs a proven winner to build around
More: Sweet Vic-Tor-y: Marshfield’s Maas leads Rams to first Patriot Keenan title
The Browns' front office saw Galligan's Hail Mary throw on SportsCenter and instantly fell in love
Not even Cleveland could get this pick wrong
The Browns have had just one 4,000-yard passer in their 79-year history (Brian Sipe in 1980)
and Galligan will be the next to do it on his way to becoming a household name in the pros
The senior quarterback holds records for single-season (2,257) and career (4,613) passing yards ,and touchdowns (57)
the Giants signed Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston in the offseason
but neither – nor Tommy DeVito – deterred the front office from selecting their next franchise quarterback
Because Luccarelli is two years younger than both Maas and Galligan
New York drafts this sophomore with the flexibility to either start him on Day 1
or opt for a redshirt rookie season so he learn from the aforementioned veterans
Luccarelli won South Shore League Sullivan Division Player of the Year honors this past fall as he compiled 29 total touchdowns despite missing the first three games to injury
The Patriots had a tough choice to make here – either Ridore or Scituate receiver Lawson Foley – but it's ultimately a win-win
New England opts to protect Drake Maye with a long-term anchor on the offensive line
while also pairing a game-wrecker on the interior defensive line alongside the newly-acquired Milton Williams
Ridore graduated as Weymouth High's all-time sack leader and paved the way for the Wildcats to rush for more than 2,800 yards this fall
he's a three-time state champion in rugby and a standout wrestler
the Jaguars thought they'd have no chance at taking the Patriot Ledger Player of the Year
Foley makes a convincing case to be the best prospect in this draft
The senior receiver led Scituate to an undefeated season and the Div
hauling in 979 yards and 18 TDs on offense and totaling 12 tackles for loss and 6 interceptions in the secondary on defense
Jacksonville has made the playoffs four times in the last 20 years and need to cultivate a winning culture
A reigning state champ is here to play savior
it's never too early to take a running back
The Raiders are bolstering their depth of playmakers around new QB Geno Smith with the South Shore's leading rusher
Rees ran for 1,500 yards and 22 touchdowns
The senior now joins forces with Brock Bowers as another up-and-coming star on the Raiders' offense
MarshfieldThe Jets had one of the lowest-graded offensive lines in the league last year
and they pluck one of our area's best to keep new QB Justin Fields upright
helped Marshfield amass over 4,000 yards of offense (2,030 passing and 1,951 rushing) this past fall
Richard offers Carolina the opportunity to patch up multiple needs with one selection
punter and kick-returner will serve as a safety valve for third-year QB Bryce Young on offense
and be one of the most versatile playmakers on a defense that struggled mightily
finished with 1,101 total yards and 11 touchdowns as BC High reached the Div
New Orleans has its first foundational quarterback since Drew Brees retired four years ago. Carroll completed 74 percent of his passes en route to a 2,069-yard
23-touchdown campaign as BC High reached the Division 1 semifinals this fall
10. Chicago Bears: James Scanlon, DuxburyCaleb Williams was sacked 68 times, the third-most in NFL history, as a rookie last year. That won't happen again with Scanlon up front
240-pound senior lineman will also pitch in on Chicago's run game
He helped Duxbury rush for over 2,500 yards last fall
The 49ers had a fair share of skill-position players to choose from in this spot, but instead, they opt to invest in a succession plan for 36-year-old tackle Trent Williams. Ames
helped the Scituate offense rush for more than 2,000 yards and over 30 touchdowns in an undefeated season last fall
Fans of so-called 'America's team' will quickly fall in love this pick
This senior is one of the most versatile players in the draft
He rushed for 1,084 yards and 12 touchdowns on offense
6 sacks and 2 interceptions on defense this fall
Boutin will do a little bit of everything for a Cowboys team that
Miami has a big hole to fill its offense line due to Terron Armstead's retirement
the second Weymouth lineman chosen in this draft
was part of a run game that produced 2,800 yards
14. Indianapolis Colts: Jarred Mighty, BrocktonOur fictional draft experts are still baffled at how arguably the best all-around athlete in the draft class slipped to this spot
shined at free safety this fall with 58 tackles and 4 interceptions
He can also pitch in on a budding offense alongside QB Anthony Richardson
as he had 1,087 yards of total offense for the Boxers last year
The Falcons' defense ranks last in sacks and QB pressures over the past five seasons
a junior linebacker who in an eight-game debut season at Milton Academy recorded 70 tackles
Arizona has potential to assemble a glitzy
high-flying offense as currently constructed with Kyler Murray under center and Marvin Harrison Jr
Robinson
produced over 1,500 yards of total offense and 20 touchdowns for the Div
he will attend West Point after high school

Manning is the fourth Sailor off the board midway through the first round
We project this senior to be the Bengals' long-term answer at middle linebacker
The Cincinnati defense ranked 25th in both points and yards allowed last year
all while Manning had team-high 109 tackles
as Scituate surrendered an average of 6.5 points per game en route to a perfect season
North QuincyThe South Shore doesn't offer the Seahawks a better replacement for DK Metcalf than this senior receiver
Rodrigues-Smith will be a top target for Seattle's newly-acquired franchise quarterback Sam Darnold
He holds single-season records for receiving yards (994) and touchdowns (15) in the city of Quincy

Bostrom rushed for over 1,300 yards and made over 90 tackles
Sean Payton will love the punch that this junior running back packs. Holmes will run behind one of the best offensive lines in the NFL and
be a trendy preseason pick to win Offensive Rookie of the Year
Holmes took 169 carries for 1,303 yards and 19 touchdowns
Franchise quarterbacks don't often fall to the 21st pick
Mike Tomlin can now rule out signing Aaron Rodgers
Balzarini finished with nearly 3,000 yards of offense (2,229 passing
15 rushing) in his first year starting at quarterback for the Crusaders last fall
The last remaining question for Pittsburgh's offense is
how will DK Metcalf and George Pickens divvy up the targets
Meet Justin Herbert's new best friend. By drafting White
the Chargers' front office is adding one of the most explosive athletes on the board
The junior running back had 1,123 yards and 24 total touchdowns in Randolph's run to the Div
Rumor has it that Jim Harbaugh is enamored by White's play on special teams
RandolphThe casual Cheesehead may not be familiar with Norsica's skillset
but our fictional draft experts foresee this lineman/kicker hybrid being a fan favorite by Week 1
finishing his junior season with 28 tackles (7 for loss) and 2 fumble recoveries
which will aid a Packers team that toggled kickers last season
as illustrated by Christian Darrisaw missing the second half of last season with a torn ACL
Maynard is three-year starter with a history of playing in big games
His protection helped the Hawks gain 1,400 rushing yards and 1,400 passing yards this fall
There was serious consideration for Houston to bulk up its offensive and defensive lines, but the Texans' front office couldn't believe that Solimini fell into its lap at this point in the draft
the ideal receiver prospect to replace Stefon Diggs

who is on track to return from the season-ending leg injury he suffered last October
Travis Hunter plays on both offense and defense
but Chaplin II stars in all three facets of the game
Chaplin II had 29 receptions for 425 yards and 5 touchdowns as a receiver
rushed 31 times for 335 yards and 7 touchdowns in the backfield
had 3 interceptions in the secondary and ran back two kick-return touchdowns for Canton last fall
In terms of receivers' skillsets, we like Keon Coleman and Khalil Shakir, but we love Will McLoughlin
The senior finished his time at Cohasset with 15 career touchdowns
McLoughlin played in two Final Fours with the Skippers so he won't be fazed while reeling in a clutch catch in the later stages of an AFC playoff game..
The Chiefs' scouting department has a knack for uncovering hidden gems in the draft

Jake Kavanagh scored for South Shore at 16:31 in the third
but that was as close as the Kings would get
That was the lone goal allowed by Durkin in the championship tournament’s three games
He stopped 30 shots on Monday and stopped 362 of 378 (96%) shots overall during the 12-game postseason
The Spud Kings beat South Shore in the championship tournament opener 1-0 on Friday and beat the Mercer Chiefs 1-0 on Saturday
Plans for a championship celebration at Mountain America Center are underway
