Let It Fly Sports Bar is likely no longer coming to mixed-use development Silo Square in Southaven
What would have been the newest location of the sports bar brand, founded by former Memphis Grizzlies player Mike Miller, was put up for lease or sale in November
Silo Square developer Brian Hill said he did not know why Miller and Let It Fly backed out of opening the location
Miller did not respond to a request for comment Tuesday
Let It Fly currently has two locations in the metro area of Omaha, Nebraska, and one in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Locally, the Germantown Let It Fly location closed in late 2023
Hill said he has a few ideas of what he would most like to see move into the building

"He wants to be sure that it's a really good operator..

Southaven Mayor Darren Musselwhite touted a new sign at Snowden Grove Park and repair work on Swinnea Road recently on social media
addressed new signage along Getwell Road in front of the park and amphitheater
and explained how dips on a new section of Swinnea Road were fixed.
The new video board signage was designed to match the appearance of the nearby walking bridge
It will advertise concerts at the amphitheater and other park activities
The sign will also provide public safety alerts when needed and other messages.
Olive Branch has already installed a similar-type video messaging sign welcoming drivers at the intersection of Malone and Goodman roads
The old Snowden Grove sign was taken down when the pedestrian bridge was constructed.
Design and construction errors in the extension of Swinnea Road south to Church Road resulted at the time the roadway was built through low-lying and swampy terrain.
Musselwhite said dirt settling over box culverts caused soft spots in the road.
we used a new material and process called Polly foam injections to level the road subsurface and then topped it with a new surface layer of asphalt,” said Musselwhite.

Big Lots’ President and Chief Executive Officer
“While we remain hopeful that we can close an alternative going concern transaction
in order to protect the value of the Big Lots estate

2025-The DeSoto County District Attorney’s Office today announced the conviction of James Clark Jr
for trafficking methamphetamine in Southaven
Clark has been sentenced to 10 years in the custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections (MDOC)
followed by 10 years of post-release supervision (PRS)
This conviction comes after work by the Southaven Police Department and prosecution led by Assistant District Attorney Ben Weathers.
“We are shielding DeSoto County families from these toxic drugs
and today’s conviction is another significant step in that fight,” said District Attorney Matthew Barton
“Methamphetamine is a very dangerous and addictive drug—that has ruined the lives of numerous families and their loved ones
This case should serve as a stark warning to anyone else trying to distribute dangerous substances in DeSoto County: if you are caught trafficking drugs
we will make you pay the price with no eligibility for parole or early release.”
was found in possession of 61 dosage units of MDMA with the intent to sell
The year and a half time frame between arrest
prosecution and conviction highlights the ongoing need for a crime lab in DeSoto County
the project has stalled due to political delays
but I remain committed to ensuring that this vital resource becomes a reality for our community,” said Barton.

That means only Horn Lake will have a new face in the Mayor’s Office come July 1
At least three candidates have stepped forward to replace the retiring Allen Latimer and two of them will face off in a primary on April 1.
The qualifying deadline for candidates is Jan
The primary election day is April 1 and if there are any runoff elections needed
that will occur on April 22. General election day for aldermen and for mayor is on June 3 and the Secretary of State’s office notes that general elections are determined by plurality
That means the winner needs only to earn the most votes and not need to have the 50 percent plus one vote majority.

For anyone with an aversion to sand traps and water hazards
the emerging sport of disc golf — played with flying saucers rather than clubs and balls — is coming to Southaven County Park in Brookhaven later this year
Southaven will be Long Island's fourth disc golf course
treasurer of the Long Island Disc Golf Club
The others are in Heckscher State Park in East Islip
Cedar Beach town golf course in Babylon and Buckskill Meadow Preserve
“We consider ourselves a disc golf desert," Ebinger said
"It’s really been a tough road to find new courses here.”
The game, which has been on Long Island since at least 2012, when it arrived at Cedar Beach
challenges players to toss a disc into a basket held aloft by a pole
Also like the more familiar version of golf
disc golf is won by the player who gets the disc in the bucket with the fewest throws
James Mazzarella (R-Moriches) said in a telephone interview
Construction could start later this spring and the course may be open this summer
Mazzarella learned about the sport during a chance encounter when he was traveling with his family in Kentucky
“We were walking in this park and I didn’t realize we were walking on this [disc golf] course,” he said
“I texted pictures back to my office and said
There'll be no additional cost to play at Southaven — only the cost of parking
which is $7 on weekends between Memorial Day and Labor Day
Players will be expected to supply their own discs
“The real benefit here is it’s fairly inexpensive to [construct the course] and really
aside from needing some discs … it’s basically free,” Mazzarella said
“More and more families are looking for ways to have entertainment at a reasonable cost.”
The Long Island Disc Golf Club counts 150 to 200 members
Players run the gamut agewise from early 20s to 70s
There are regular gatherings on Thursday afternoons and Saturdays and Sundays at Heckscher — rain or shine
The club runs an annual tournament at Heckscher in September
