SOUTHWEST RANCHES
– The upcoming mayoral election in the rural town of Southwest Ranches has sparked a heated debate between incumbent Steve Breitkreuz and challenger Lori Parrish
both longtime residents with differing visions for how the town should move forward
who has lived in Southwest Ranches for 25 years and served on the town council for 12
arguing that the town’s current approach to governance is what makes it special
“I believe we are on the right track for a lot of different reasons,” he said
His platform centers on a hands-off approach to code enforcement
which he believes maintains the town’s unique charm and allows residents to live with greater freedom compared to neighboring cities
compared to a lot of our neighboring towns
we don’t enforce code to the degree that others do,” Breitkreuz added
“Unless you are infringing on the rights of somebody else
you should be able to do what you want to do.”
this philosophy translates into a town where residents can build their homes in a wide range of styles
park any number of vehicles on their properties
and even paint their homes in non-traditional colors
The relaxed enforcement of regulations appeals to many residents
but Breitkreuz’s challenger believes it’s time for change
is running against Breitkreuz with the promise of implementing more structure and accountability
who has also lived in the town for many years
says she has heard from numerous residents who feel their concerns are not being addressed under the current administration
“There are people out here who feel their voice doesn’t matter,” she said
Parrish’s campaign is centered on reforming the town’s approach to code enforcement
potholes and speeding in residential areas
Parrish also called for a code enforcement review board to identify and resolve issues that conflict with the town’s lifestyle
“I think we need a code enforcement review board
but to go through our code and find those things that don’t match our lifestyle and eliminate them.”
Parrish has learned that many residents are frustrated by issues such as drainage problems
Two was potholes and three was interior road speeding,” Parrish said
believes that the town’s less structured approach is exactly what appeals to many residents
He argues that Southwest Ranches is one of the few remaining places where homeowners can enjoy such freedoms without interference
“If you want to live in a community where all that structure is not there
preserving the town’s rural feel and individual freedoms is paramount
He maintains that over-regulation could strip Southwest Ranches of its identity and uniqueness
“The beauty of Southwest Ranches is that it allows people to live the way they want without the rigid rules found in other cities,” he said
emphasizing that the town’s loose approach to code enforcement is a reflection of that philosophy
believes that some level of regulation is necessary to address the community’s growing pains
she argues that the town must adapt its approach to issues like infrastructure and safety
who has decades of experience in public service
feels she is the right person to bring about these changes
and I believe I have the skills and experience to make that happen,” Parrish said
Both candidates have long histories of service in the community
and each has a distinct vision for the town’s future
While Breitkreuz advocates for maintaining the town’s rural character with minimal government interference
Parrish believes in a more structured approach
The outcome of the mayoral race could significantly impact how Southwest Ranches manages its future growth and development
as the town continues to attract new residents while maintaining its reputation as a rural oasis in Broward County
“I believe we are on the right track,” Breitkreuz said
Parrish remains hopeful that voters will support her call for change
“I believe I have the skills and experience to make a real difference,” she said
Both candidates have laid out their visions
it’s up to the voters to decide which path Southwest Ranches will take

– A tornado was spotted Wednesday morning near Alligator Alley in Broward County
Tim Schwartzman of the Sawgrass Recreation Park saw it coming in

According to Local 10 meteorologist Brandon Orr

He said it’s hard to tell whether it actually crossed Alligator Alley
The sighting comes after the National Weather Service issued a tornado watch through 9 p.m

According to Local 10 hurricane specialist Michael Lowry
southeast Florida – including the urban I-95 corridor between Miami and Fort Lauderdale – will see gusty winds as high as 40 to 50 mph

At the top of the ballot will be the presidential race between former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris
Florida law requires each county to report its early and absentee ballots first
Democrats have tended to vote by mail more than Republicans
That means the first results reported often look stronger for Democratic candidates than the eventual outcome
as the votes cast on Election Day trickle in
Republicans start seeing much more favorable results
In Broward, voters also decided to keep Gregory Tony as sheriff over Charles Whatley
Mayoral races were also held in some cities

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY
– Miami-Dade commissioners will not be making any decisions about the controversial solid waste incinerator on Wednesday
Leer en español
Commissioners have faced strong pushback from residents in Miramar
and Medley who oppose building an incinerator
Eric Trump opposed having it anywhere near Trump National Doral. Commissioner Keon Hardemon, who represents the eastern District 3
I want to challenge that person,” Hardemon said." I don’t think we should make a decision out of fear.”
Commissioner Eileen Higgins, who represents the eastern District 5
don’t get involved in that,” Higgins said during the meeting
The meeting agenda did include a resolution that passed ordering a report to help commissioners learn more about the costs of either building a new incinerator or a landfill expansion
those are the three pillars I am looking at when making a decision,” said Commissioner Anthony Rodriguez
who represents District 10 and serves as chairman
but let’s make an informed one,” Commissioner Juan Carlos “JC” Bermudez
a former Doral mayor who represents District 12
Last month, Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava recommended eliminating the incinerator option as a short-term solution and building a new waste facility instead
“I’m recommending that we continue to long haul waste via truck and rail,” Levine Cava said about a short-term plan
commissioners had learned the new incinerator was more expensive than transporting the trash by truck and train
“It is entirely up to this commission and we will follow their direction,” Levine Cava said
The challenge started after there was a fire at the Covanta Energy plant in 2023 near Northwest 74th Street and 97th Avenue in Doral
While The Airport West property was considered
Miramar Mayor Wayne Messam opposed incineration tech
Other options include building an out-of-county landfill or waste-to-energy facility
said postponing the issue again felt like déjà vu
“The frustration is shared by many of us about why there has been no holistic decision made over the last two years,” Rodriguez said
“I look forward to making that decision this fiscal year before the end of the year under my chairmanship.”
Commissioners plan to discuss the incinerator again in July
“That meeting in July will finally lead to a decision if the administration provides all the information,” Bermudez said
Innovations and Technology Committee to also direct the County Mayor or County Mayor’s designee to explore and analyze available funding sources and technologies
to contribute to or defray the costs of the County’s solid waste system including any construction
operation and maintenance costs associated with a solid waste campus
“This Board directs the County Mayor or County Mayor’s designee to prepare a written report addressing all the directives set forth in this resolution
The County Mayor or County Mayor’s designee shall submit and place on an agenda of the full Board without committee review pursuant to Rule 5.06(j) of the Board’s Rules of Procedure

MIAMI – Many wearing bright green shirts
dozens of residents of cities in southwest Broward ventured south of the county line Tuesday to give Miami-Dade County commissioners a piece of their minds regarding a plan to build a new waste-to-energy plant at the site of a decommissioned airport
The Opa-locka West Airport site is — controversially — a stone’s throw south of the Broward County line, located near Okeechobee Road and Krome Avenue. It is among four options Miami-Dade’s mayor and commission considered to replace the previous Doral facility, which burned down in early 2023
That has residents and officials in Broward cities like Miramar
Southwest Ranches and Pembroke Pines angry
threatening litigation and showing up to Miami-Dade meetings like Tuesday’s commission meeting
where officials are expected to vote on the plan
“It’s a shock to learn that Miami-Dade County is prepared to impose in Broward County what you no longer want in your county,” one south Broward resident said
“It strikes me as taxation without representation regarding our environment and lives.”
Tuesday’s meeting came one day after Miami-Dade Mayor Daniella Levine Cava held a Doral town hall on the incinerator proposal
has led the charge against the plan alongside environmental groups
He was at Tuesday’s meeting and spoke to Local 10 News
“We don’t want it to be built and then Miramar is forced to say
“So why place this incinerator right on top of all of South Florida’s drinking water supply?”
“You’re basically going to put an ash landfill right against the pristine water that we all need
and it is immoral to place this incinerator at Airport West.”
exhorting commissioners to “remember” who their constituents are
alluding to the fact that they serve Miami-Dade residents
Levine Cava has called the site one that provides the “best possible balance between multiple factors including cost
and impact to residents and natural resources” and promised measures to protect the environment
Commissioners eventually voted to defer the project until the Nov
They’ve asked county staff to complete a report on the cost of a recent Medley land swap offer
whether Doral is willing to reimburse the county for the “enormous cost of relocating” the incinerator elsewhere and exploring the environmental impact of the development
They also discussed the damning, damaging legacy of “Old Smokey” in Miami’s West Grove neighborhood
“We just kicked the can down the road,” he said
“I don’t think this county should hold the residents of Doral hostage.”
– In the heart of Southwest Ranches sits a special ranch
This little hideaway is also the residence of a community of cats
and one horse trainer with a heart of gold is saving felines while combating one of South Florida’s biggest pet problems
Herrmann Stables is complete with 16 horses on six acres with six paddocks and two arenas
Her love for animals is palpable and she wants everyone to experience the majestic nature of horses
It’s an exchange of energy from the handler
These big boys can weigh upwards of 1,000 pounds and that can be intimidating to many
but Herrmann teaches people to experience that sense instead of being scared of it
This professional rider and trainer doesn’t just care for fillies and foals though
And when I took this farm over three years ago
more than two dozen of these furballs are her responsibility
spay and neuter is paramount to controlling the population
The Humane Society of Broward County came out to the barns and spent two days sterilizing each and every feline
“And now we have a pretty nice colony of cats
They are healthy and it stays the same because nobody is breeding,” Herrmann said
but the over-breeding of feral cats is a South Florida concern that pops up in nearly every single city
saving these little lives and preventing more kittens in the future

Johnson’s income isn’t coming just from movies and television
The very bankable star has also made millions off the big screen with business ventures like his award-winning tequila
we take a look at some of the Rock’s most well-known properties
including adding a gym and a cottage for his trainer to stay in
seven-bathroom dwelling featured both Mediterranean and neoclassical elements
a massive foyer with an intricate chandelier greeted guests at the front door
Major highlights included a primary bedroom with a sleek
black fireplace and room enough for lounging; a movie theater; a chef’s kitchen with stainless-steel appliances; and a custom home gym
The home boasted views of the Hollywood Hills
and an infinity pool and spa perched on a cliff’s edge
On the three-acre property sat a grand neoclassical dwelling with five living rooms
There was enough room on the estate for The Rock to set up the fully equipped mobile gym he called Iron Paradise
Johnson also entertained a visitor while there: a horse called Rusty who Russell Crowe rode in Gladiator and Robin Hood
though it does not seem that the place sold
Six bedrooms and 12 bathrooms are spread across a main house and a 2,500-square-foot guesthouse
totaling almost 17,630 square feet of living space
The amenities on the estate rival any luxury resort with a full-size tennis court
an olive-tree-lined driveway leading to a motor court
and a fully equipped gym (would it be a Dwayne Johnson house if there were no gym?)
and children currently use this as their main residence

(AP) — Rapper Sean Kingston was arrested in California on fraud charges Thursday
several hours after a SWAT team raided his rented South Florida mansion and carted away a van load of items
The Broward County Sheriff's Office said Kingston was arrested without incident on a Florida warrant in the area of Fort Irwin
an Army base in the desert about 150 miles (240 kilometers) northeast of Los Angeles
Broward County prosecutors referred all questions to the sheriff's office
which has has declined to release specific details about charges
reporters outside the home could see authorities filling a loading van with goods
The mansion was surrounded by expensive sports cars
"People love negative energy!" Kingston had posted on Instagram earlier Thursday
My lawyers are handling everything as we speak." The post was later taken down
an attorney representing the rapper and his mother
"we are aware of some of the allegations" being made against the two
"We look forward to addressing these in court and are confident of a successful resolution for Shawn and his mother," Rosenblatt said in an email
Florida Department of Corrections records show Kingston is currently on two years' probation for trafficking stolen property
Further information on that conviction could not be found
He will be held in California pending extradition to Florida
his mother pleaded guilty in 2006 to bank fraud for stealing over $160,000 and served nearly 1.5 years in prison
She was being held at the Broward jail Thursday night on $160,000 bond
The Jamaican-American rapper is best known for his 2007 No

"Take You There"; and his collaboration with Justin Bieber on the song "Eenie Meenie." In 2011 he suffered near-fatal injuries in a personal watercraft accident
hasn't had a major label release in more than a decade
An attorney who witnessed his mother's arrest said the detentions are partly related to a lawsuit he filed against Kingston in February accusing him of defrauding a Florida company that installed in his home a 232-inch (5.8 meter) television — or approximately 17 feet by 9.5 feet (5 meters by 3 meters)
"It is amazing what you can get away with if you are a celebrity," attorney Dennis Card told The Associated Press
His mother is a necessary component in this
He presents himself as a family-oriented guy
'I'm taking care of my mom,' but she knows full well what is going on."
Ver Ver Entertainment says Kingston contacted the company in September about purchasing the television
Kingston allegedly told the owners that if they would agree to a lower down payment and give him credit
he and Bieber would do commercials for them
Kingston paid the company $30,000 and the TV was installed
No commercials or further payments were ever made despite numerous promises
Kingston no longer has a working relationship with Bieber
No current contact information for Bieber was available
"He is 100% not involved in this," Card said of Bieber
"He had the misfortune of doing some work in the past with Sean
