a new ownership team will be taking over Sharon Speedway.
As the speedway embarks on its 96th anniversary season
owner Dave Blaney will be joined by his son
and area businessman and racer Will Thomas III.
NASCAR Cup driver Dave Blaney along with area businessmen Jim Weller
of Liberty Steel Industries and Bill and Ron Kirila of Kirila Contractors
The track was successfully operated by the trio for the next 23 years
Ron Kirila passed away on April 24 at the age of 86
Dave Blaney will be beginning his 24th year of ownership at Sharon
a track that he grew up racing at and with which he shares his hometown of Hartford
The 62-year-old is a former champion of the World of Outlaws and USAC and was inducted into the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame in 2014.
Ryan Blaney, will join his father as a partner in his foray into promoting and track ownership
Blaney's day job is driving the #12 Ford Mustang Dark Horse for Team Penske in the NASCAR Cup Series
The 31-year-old was the 2023 NASCAR Cup Champion and runner-up in the championship in 2024.
Rounding out the new ownership team at Sharon is Will Thomas III of Sharpsville. Thomas has been a well accomplished racer throughout his career beginning on asphalt and then transitioning to dirt in 2011
He currently owns Colonial Metal Products and Colonial Slitting Industries.
The 2025 season at Sharon Speedway will get underway on Saturday
May 10 in a "Super Series" event presented by Bala Management. The Hovis Auto & Truck Supply "410" Sprint Cars will highlight the program in a $4,000 to-win event along with the Gibson Insurance Agency Pro Stocks and the Alcon Mechanical Econo Mods

who has co-owned Dawson's with his brother Chris since June 2006
told IndyStar the restaurant's phone lines have been out of order since the last week of April
After nearly 20 years with the same phone and internet provider
the Hills decided in late January to switch from Comcast to AT&T to save money
the (317) 247-7000 number that Dawson's used for years was caught in a no man's land between the two companies
and the Hills have paid bills to both providers each of the last three months to retain the Dawson's phone line
the line stopped working and AT&T has been unable to fix it
a simple landline can be crucial to a restaurant's operations
While Dawson's offers online reservations through OpenTable
carry-out orders and catering orders are a huge part of his business
He estimates the restaurant has missed out on around $20,000 in the weeks that Dawson's has been without a functioning phone line to date
'This number is not in service,' it makes it look like we're not here," he said
The malfunction led Dawson's to decide to close on Mother's Day
The restaurant planned to offer a buffet that customers reserve over the phone
Hill called the holiday "a $15-to-20,000 day."
Then there's the money that Speedway businesses like Dawson's stand to make as the Indianapolis 500 approaches
Hill considers weeks leading up to the race his restaurant's version of the Christmas season for retail stores
Some servers can earn more than five times their typical pay during a shift
While staffers at Dawson's hope the issue will be resolved soon
they're nervous about what late May will look like without a heavily relied-upon service at their disposal
"When you're a restaurant two blocks from the track in the month of May
who said he and his brother have "tried it all" with regards to troubleshooting and suggestions from concerned customers
remains optimistic the situation will improve shortly
"I hope it gets resolved here quickly and we can enjoy the month of May with a bunch of people," he said
but it's fun — and it's not so fun right now."

A look at the winners and losers from Sunday’s Cup race at Texas Motor Speedway
Joey Logano — He was the first reigning Cup champion not to have a top-five finish through the first 10 races of the following season but changed the storyline by winning Sunday’s race
The victory is the 37th of his career and it comes a week after his fifth-place finish at Talladega was disqualified for a post-race inspection
Said Logano: “I told my wife last week before we left (for Texas)
we’ll go win this one.’ It’s just how we do stuff
I feel like we come back ten times harder.”
Trackhouse Racing — Team placed two of its cars in the top 10 for the second time this season (Las Vegas was the other)
Daniel Suarez placed 10th for his second consecutive top 10
Shane van Gisbergen’s 22nd-place finish was his second top-25 in the last eight races
Legacy Motor Club — Team had both its cars in the top 10 for the first time since the season-opening Daytona 500
dating back to last year’s playoff race at Talladega
John Hunter Nemechek finished eighth for his first top 10 since Atlanta
Ryan Blaney — Finished third after having failed to finish four of the previous seven races
— His sixth-place finish was his second top 10 of the season and his best finish at Texas
Austin Dillon — His seventh-place finish gives him three consecutive top 10s — tied with Kyle Larson for the longest active streak in the series after Larson finished fourth
Ty Dillon — He was on the outside of the ninth row (18th place) for the overtime restart
went to top and was four wide as he gained positions
He rallied to finish 12th for his best finish of the season and it comes after fuel issues the past two races led to finishes outside the top 20
Denny Hamlin — Blown engine led to a last-place finish in the 38-car field and snapped his streak of finishing on the lead lap for 21 consecutive races
Josh Berry — The Las Vegas winner was leading when he crashed and went on to finish 32nd
Brad Keselowski — He was collected in a multi-car crash and finished 28th
The former Cup champion has finished 26th or worse in five of the last six races

Texas Motor Speedway is an enigma among intermediate tracks
Video of the races from a decade ago looks like a completely different race track
Most of the track surface can't even be utilized in current races for various reasons
Flashback to 2016: Drivers and teams were dissatisfied with the weepers at TMS
making it impossible to dry the track in a reasonable amount of time
As a result of the drainage issues and the aging surface
a repave was scheduled for the off-season that followed
But this was no simple repave — it was a full reconfiguration
The first two corners were flattened out a bit with the banking lowered from 24 degrees to 20 degrees
while the track surface in that area was widened from 60 to 80 feet
There was also a nasty bump that appeared above the tunnel in Turns 3 and 4
various traction compounds were dumped onto the upper grooves in an attempt to improve the on-track product
it ended up staining the track and making it even more treacherous for drivers
Cars getting into the upper grooves were lucky not to completely spin out on the noticeably blacker surface
PJ1 traction compound is very temperamental and it can feel like velcro in one spot
it needs cars to go through it and heat it up
but there were few volunteers as drivers scrambled for the safety of the bottom groove
As for the highest part of the track — above the PJ1 — that became just completely unusable
While the traction compound has little grip
Some have described going up there like 'falling off a cliff' and no one races beyond the first couple of grooves if they can help it
Even venturing up near the wall to avoid a crash is a sketchy move
The situation has gotten slightly better as the years go by
but it's still a far cry from the multi-groove Texas of old
over 40,000 seats have been removed and IndyCar also abandoned the facility
There are always discussions around completely tearing the track up and trying again
or turning it into another drafting track like Atlanta
a steel mesh grate was dragged along the stained portion of the track to try and alleviate the feeling of 'black ice' some drivers were experiencing
And remember that bump we mentioned in Turns 3 and 4
Its impact on the cars has only gotten worse in the Next Gen era
As we saw several times in last year's race
a car trying to race side-by-side often leads to the car on the outside bottoming out and immediately spinning into the outside wall
Even with an attempt to grind down that bump
Kyle Busch
who has four Cup wins at Texas (most among active drivers)
recently described it as follows: "Texas -- it's a challenging race track
Turns one and two being as flat as they are and as wide as they are
There's a lot of room for where you can go
But there's probably about six inches of that racetrack that feels really good
And that's the groove that you want to be in
the strangeness of modern races at TMS have actually made it a bit of a wildcard that has managed to put on a show every so often
Passing is difficult and the track is treacherous
leading to more aggressive moves and several heart-stopping moments
Last year's race featured 16 cautions and the previous four Cup races there have had 11 or more yellow flags.
The ever-evolving track seems to be a little different every year
and even changes over the course of a race weekend as the surface reacts to any temperature change and any activity in a way far more pronounced than most circuits.

NASCAR heads to Texas Motor Speedway this weekend
FORT WORTH, Texas - With 12 cautions including seven in the final stage, Sunday's NASCAR Cup Series race at Texas Motor Speedway quickly became a battle for survival.
And while ultimately, it wasn't quite the win it often looked like it would be for Kyle Larson
5 Valvoline Chevrolet was still intact and rolling when the checkered flag fell.
Larson won the second stage - his fifth straight race at Texas with a stage victory - and turned in a solid fourth-place finish
It was the second straight race in which the 32-year-old scored the most points.
He also led the most laps and was in control of the race through much of stage three
Michael McDowell got a good jump on a restart and had help from behind
and with track position at a premium all day
Larson wasn't able to quite make it back to the point.
"You don't want to give up the lead at a mile-and-a-half (track)
it's hard to get it back," Larson said
I left early the restart before and was going to leave early again then and he just anticipated and left probably right with me or barely before and he had (Tyler) Reddick pushing behind him
Wish I could go back and do that all over again
William Byron, the Cup Series points leader
finishing seventh in both and scoring eight points
crew chief Rudy Fugle made a two-tire call but Byron made contact with Cole Custer upon leaving his stall
Byron took over the lead and was able to hold on for a while
RELATED: Hendrick Motorsports Fan Fest schedule, wristband details
Byron was trapped a lap down when Jesse Love crashed with 49 laps to go
he quickly got it back when Kyle Busch spun a handful of laps later and the No
More cautions and trips down pit road gave the team more time to repair the nose and by the end
Byron had rallied all the way back to a 13th-place finish.
Chase Elliott was also trapped a lap down along with Byron and like the 24 team
9 NAPA Auto Parts squad used the Busch caution to rejoin the lead lap
the 9 followed the 24 back through the field
avoiding damage from cautions and eventually coming home with a 19th-place showing.
Alex Bowman was also fast throughout most of the early going, especially in stage two as he rocketed through the field all the way to third, scoring eight points. But the No. 48 Ally Chevrolet was collected in a crash at the beginning of stage three
16 (AJ Allmendinger) came back across the track
and we all piled in there," Bowman said
I think we passed more cars than anyone’s ever passed at Texas.”
The NASCAR Cup Series will return next week with a race at Kansas Motor Speedway

Sunday’s Wurth 400 at Texas Motor Speedway was a controversial one. Fans, drivers and media members alike weren’t in love with the action, but Joey Logano wouldn’t change anything
as he was victorious coming to the start-finish-line at the end of the race
While the venue has some options to try and deliver some better racing in the future, NASCAR insiders Jeff Gluck and Jordan Bianchi aren’t betting on them coming to fruition
They believe that Texas is simply going to remain the same moving into the future
and it’s up to the drivers to adjust when it’s time to head to the Lone Star State
let’s say they repave this place right now
it’s going to take four or five years for it to start aging up enough where you can race on it
the quickest thing to do would be to make it another Atlanta
but we already have so many speedway races
it’s like the asphalt that they used here is not aging like at other racetracks
so I think that this is going to be a place that just stays how it is
and it’ll be the annual sort of complain about Texas thing in the spring
Bianchi is of the opinion that Texas is simply beyond the point of no return when it comes to a potential change
he thinks the tracks rewards the best drivers and the best teams
and that’s really all you can ask for out of a venue for the Cup Series

“At least it isn’t like it used to be. It’s like, ‘Oh my god, we’re going to Texas, the racing is — this is horrible, the worst.’ I know you do your preseason rankings of worst races, and I don’t think Texas deserves that low of a ranking anymore, because it’s unpredictable. It’s entertaining in a way. At least it has its own identity now. The identity isn’t like before, where it’s like, pure suckitude. This is actually entertaining. Like, anything can happen.
“I will say, it still rewards the best drivers and the best teams. It’s not like, you know, you had a Larson up there, [Joey] Logano, Blaney — you had the guys up there today who you usually see up there, and it even rewards a Michael McDowell, who is really good. That’s not a bad thing. It’s not like all of this carnage and unpredictability is leading to, like, wild finishes and unpredictable winners. It’s still leading to justified guys who are going out there doing it.
“Now, that said, you still would like to see better racing. That’s where you have to draw the line. You want to figure out a way to do better racing. I just don’t know if it’s possible there, in this configuration. The track is the track at this point, it’s not going to change.”
Perhaps NASCAR will look to adjust Texas Motor Speedway moving forward. There’s certainly a ton of potential at the track with the large market in the state, but options seem limited. Fans, drivers and media members alike may simply have to accept the venue for what it is, it seems.

Kyle Wilkinson (58) and Tanner Pettitt (2T) race in a IMCA Stock Car race on Saturday at Off Road Speedway outside of Norfolk
A starting position in the front row was no guarantee for success in any of the six “A” features at Off Road Speedway on Saturday night
row two produced more winners —three — than any other grid location
and a couple drivers made it into Victory Lane from well back in the field
Off Road Speedway’s IMCA Late Models track champion a year ago
got his first win of the season at the track after making the most of a second-row starting spot
Dumpert took over the lead four laps into the 25-lap race by using the high side of the track to pass the early leader
then held off several challenges by Vollbrecht during the next few laps before Norfolk’s Chase Osborne took over second place
Osborne chased Dumpert for four laps until he was supplanted by Anthony Roth of Columbus
and the race became a two-car contest for first place while Osborne
Vollbrecht and Aurora driver Dylan Schmer battled for third
Although he neared lapped traffic coming out of turn four
was able to navigate his way across the finish line unimpeded for the win with Roth taking second
Osborne was able to come out on top of the three-way competition for third place just ahead of Schmer and Vollbrecht
Kyle Wilkinson of Neligh used the high side of the track to earn a win in the IMCA Stock Cars “A” feature
Wilkinson charged out of the second row into the lead almost immediately and remained out front until his brother
was able to pass on the inside of turn four — setting up a brother vs
brother battle that lasted until a late caution that set up a green-white-checkered finish
Platte Center’s Austin Brauner had steadily made his way from the fourth row into a competition with Neligh driver Derek Sehi for third
passing Sehi just two laps before the caution
Kyle Wilkinson got his chance to pass when Cameron Wilkinson’s car slid up the track in turn three during the first lap
Brauner briefly held the advantage as the pair left turn four before
Kyle Wilkinson once again got to the front as Brauner’s car skidded sideways as the two drivers exited the last turn and headed to the finish line
The win was Kyle Wilkinson’s first of the season at Off Road Speedway in the Stock Cars division
while Brauner grabbed second place ahead of Cameron Wilkinson
Brayden Hurley of Grand Island made the most of his first appearance at the Norfolk track
bolting to the front from the inside of the second row and staying there despite two cautions for an IMCA Hobby Stocks feature win
the primary competition was behind the leader where Albion’s Travis Landauer moved up from the middle of the pack to battle Time Prichett
of Beemer for second place during the final 10 laps of the 15-lap event
Landauer was able to pull away to close on Hurley
as Wayne’s Dakota Spann and Neligh’s Jason Wilkinson joined Pritchett
Hurley secured the victory as Landauer’s final bid to pass on the inside of turn four was unsuccessful
with Pritchett benefiting from Spann’s spinout while leaving turn two into the backstretch and holding off Jason Wilkinson at the flagstand
Pierce racer Cameron Meyer won an IMCA SportMod “A” feature for the second time this season at Off Road Speedway
Meyer started in the fifth of eight rows in the field of 16 cars but joined the leaders within the first five laps and took the lead for good by passing Kyle Wilkinson on the inside of turn four with seven laps left
unable to gain enough momentum on the high side of the track to pass
driver Willy Kirk made another appearance at Off Road Speedway
parlaying a position on Meyer’s inside of row five into a third place finish — his second top five finish this season at the track
The top three places in the Pro Stock 4 division went to cars that started ninth (Zach Cordner
Werner took the lead following a caution three laps into the 10-lap feature
but held it for only a single lap when Cordner took over — holding on the final five laps for the win
with Werner finishing just ahead of Freeman
Christopher Nickolite of Bellwood won his third Crown Vics “A” feature in three tries
while Albion’s Carter Lueken took second place and Kelly Mielke of Norfolk third
Results from May 3: All drivers from Norfolk unless indicated
IMCA LATE MODELS: (16 cars) (“A” feature) 1
IMCA STOCK CARS: (19 cars) (“A” feature) 1
IMCA HOBBY STOCKS: (20 cars) (“A” feature) 1
