Fox Sports’ Joel Klatt released his post-spring Top 25 rankings for the upcoming college football season. It’s still very early, but it’s a nice look at the best teams going into 2025.
There are plenty of Big Ten and SEC teams near the top of course, as is just the natural order of things right now. But others, even some old, but familiar faces, are ready to crash the party.
We’re still a few months away from the season, but it’s fun to look at where we stand. Let’s dive into Klatt’s rankings.
Klatt put the Nittany Lions No. 1 overall and this might be the make or break year for James Franklin. Winning a couple of CFP games last year and nearly making the title game was a nice little breakthrough.
But with QB Drew Allar and transfer wideouts Kyron Hudson, Devonte Ross and Trebor Pena, this offense has to be potent. Oh yeah, running backs Kaytron Allen and Nick Singleton are back. It stinks to lose a guy like Abdul Carter to the draft, but they still have Dani Dennis-Sutton!
Texas might only go as far as Arch Manning takes them this season, and maybe even in 2026. Klatt has the Longhorns No. 2 in the country, so there are national title expectations this year.
The defense has enough to be a championship defense for sure. But the offensive line has some holes so it’s on potential transfers or development to make sure Manning stays upright.
The defending champions were as loaded as any team last year. The Buckeyes will still be a contender according to Klatt. But, you have to solve the QB conundrum.
We feel like we say that a lot since the days of Justin Fields and CJ Stroud starting multiple years haven’t happened recently under Ryan Day. But the development of Lincoln Kineholz or transfer Julian Sayin is paramount. Allow some time for Tavien St. Clair to adjust to the college game, for now. But let’s not forget WR Jeremiah Smith might be the best in the game and is only a sophomore and Caleb Downs will play one more college season as the best DB.
Oregon had to hit the portal to beef up the offensive line this season but they’ll have to transition to a new quarterback. Dante Moore got to sit for a year and take a back seat and develop behind Dillon Gabriel.
Klatt still loves Dan Lanning and company as a top four team and CFP contender. But it is amazing the Ducks are the third best team in the Big Ten in Klatt’s rankings. Watch out for Dillon Thieneman, the safety transfer from Purdue.
Clemson might be getting more and more hype as we roll on into the summer. The Tigers won the ACC and made the CFP last season and brought a lot back.
Count Klatt among those who are buying in right now, ranking the Tigers in the top five. New defensive coordinator Tom Allen should bring a lot of concepts to that side of the ball and Cade Klubnik is set up for potentially his best season as a college quarterback.
After making it to the national championship, Notre Dame is ready to run it back. There’s a quarterback competition to replace the outgoing Riley Leonard, but the Fighting Irish have a loaded team.

Klatt loves the way this team is built and how could you not
This is arguably the best offensive line in college football
Whoever wins the QB job will have a solid running back in Jeremiyah Love to lean on as well
The Tigers had to hit the portal to rebuild a defense to get it back up to standard. Klatt is a bit higher on LSU than others, such as On3’s own Andy Staples, who has them at No. 15.
Garrett Nussmeier might be the top quarterback selected in next year’s draft and this is a team that should contend for a College Football Playoff spot
LSU might be one of the better squads in 2025
Georgia is back in the thick of things of course
Gunner Stockton takes over at quarterback and we know the Bulldogs just reload every year on defense
Kirby Smart knows he has that side covered but there are more explosive playmakers on offense
Is Alabama going back to the College Football Playoff
There’s certainly pressure to do so for Kalen DeBoer
DeBoer might have a better grasp of this offense with Ryan Grubb back as OC
Klatt loves the talent around whoever throws the football and the defense is up to snuff
the Crimson Tide should be back near the top of college football in 2025
While it might be a surprise to see Klatt put the Illini up this high
While there were rumblings QB Luke Altmyer would leave in the spring portal
he didn’t go anywhere and he’s one of the better signal callers in the Big Ten
The core of the team from 2024 is back and it’s reasonable to think College Football Playoffs
This team won 10 games last year and could do so again under Bret Bielema

This is the conclusion I came to after getting caught in a hailstorm during a run earlier this week
the hail started and I was still 2 miles from home
nearby mailboxes and my head as I raced back to my house
Sometimes it takes hitting rock bottom to realize just how bad your relationship is
And those 2 miles running through hail was my rock bottom in my relationship with springtime in Utah
Spring season here in the Wasatch Front this year has been following the same patterns as a toxic boyfriend
It started with what the kids refer to as love bombing — a bombardment of affection early in the relationship
We had a week in March that felt like receiving an extravagant gift every single day
The sun shone for the first time in months
warming us both physically and emotionally
Buds appeared on tree limbs and previously brown
dormant shrubs began their transformation to vibrant green
A generally jovial mood swept the valley and strangers smiled at each other everywhere I went
Every morning when the sunlight poured into my home through my windows
Spring and I were going to be so happy together
Our dog chose to spend most of her day outside
We were all blissful with this new love in our lives
There was nary a proverbial “Hello Beautiful” text for weeks
We had to bring out the winter coats and snow boots again for my kids to wear to school
My dog refused to go outside even when she really
It made us think we were going to have a happily ever after and then it just disappeared
My daughter actually cried when she saw a blanket of snow on the ground one morning in late March
and I swore I wouldn’t be fooled when spring
the clarity I had found in our time apart dissolved just as soon as the sun peeked out over the nearest mountaintop
I thought for sure spring and I were going to stick
Because every relationship has its ups and downs
My kids volunteered to help with the garden
We opened our windows during the day to let the fresh air in
My dog resumed her position on the back patio
so blissful to have spring back in our lives
Then the clouds rolled in and hailstones hammered my head during what I had assumed would be a pleasant jog outdoors
I had fallen for the charms of spring again
The worst part is that this is not the first time spring has done this to me
I awoke on my wedding day to a blizzard outside
Our wedding photos feature many umbrellas and images of guests shivering in their warm-weather attire
Spring has always been like this — not really what it claims
It’s not the loving companion we all want it to be
It’s the toxic ex who should be saved in our phones as DO NOT ANSWER
I’ve decided I’d be happier looking to summer for happiness
and a veritable mosquito all-you-can-eat-buffet
It hangs around when it’s supposed to — sometimes even a bit longer than it’s supposed to

playHow Nico Iamaleava ended up at UCLA (0:49)Check out the timeline that led to Nico Iamaleava going from Tennessee to UCLA
More than 3,200 FBS scholarship players entered the NCAA transfer portal this offseason in search of better opportunities during two transfer portal windows
The second of those windows closed on April 25
though deadline additions may continue to show up in the portal for the next few days
Who are the most coveted players available this spring
Here are ESPN's rankings of the top talent in the spring transfer portal
The following players have entered the portal or have announced intentions to transfer
demand and feedback from coaches and GMs throughout the sport
HT: 6-6 | WT: 220 | Class: Redshirt freshman
Background: Well, this is a stunner. While there were rumors of discontent in late December at the winter portal deadline, it's still shocking that Iamaleava is leaving a College Football Playoff team and hitting the open market in search of a better deal than the one he had with the Vols
Tennessee has invested a ton of money in Iamaleava and even successfully fought off an attempted NCAA investigation into the seven-figure agreement he struck with the Vols as a four-star high school recruit
He had an awful lot of hype to live up to as a redshirt freshman starter in 2024 and put together a solid year
completing 64% of his passes with 22 total touchdowns and nine turnovers while leading the Vols to 10 wins
Iamaleava closed out the season with a rough CFP performance
completing 14 of 31 passes for 104 yards in a 42-17 first-round loss to eventual national champ Ohio State
Scout's take: There is no debating that Iamaleava is one of the most physically talented quarterbacks in college football
He was highly coveted out of high school due to his stature
he showed flashes of brilliance but also mediocrity
but seven came against Chattanooga and UTEP
and four of his nine touchdowns in SEC play came against Vanderbilt
Consistency is where he has to improve overall
He has the arm strength and overall talent to be a terrific vertical deep ball passer but has been wildly inconsistent in terms of accuracy in that regard
but he will likely be playing on a team that is less talented than the one he just left
Meaning: He's going to have to be better than he ever has been
who's reentering the portal after going through spring practice with the Bruins
The challenge going forward for Iamaleava is learning OC Tino Sunseri's system and winning over his new teammates this summer
but he'll certainly be motivated after his split with Tennessee
Background: Bailey entered the portal soon after Stanford fired coach Troy Taylor in late March and instantly became one of the top players available ahead of the spring portal window
122 overall recruit enjoyed a breakout debut season in 2022
and led the Cardinal in tackles for loss in each of his three seasons with the program
22.5 TFLs and 14.5 sacks and has an opportunity to become an early-round NFL draft pick if he can put together a strong senior season
Scout's take: Bailey is a disruptive presence as an edge defender and one of the more explosive outside linebackers in college football
which can shock and shed bigger tackles on his pursuit to the QB
He can also bend and rip the corner with clean
Bailey flashes excellent closing speed to chase down perimeter runs and has quick upfield burst to disrupt plays before they develop
His best asset might be an intense motor: Bailey plays the game on high octane
What he brings to Texas Tech: The Red Raiders were among the biggest spenders of the December portal period and have spared no expense in upgrading at edge rusher with Bailey and Georgia Tech transfer Romello Height
They viewed Bailey as one of the best returning defensive players in the country
beat Texas and UCLA for his pledge and have already brought him in for spring practice
Texas Tech has assembled one of the most talented defensive lines in the country with NFL-caliber talent and strong depth
All these moves have made them the clear Big 12 frontrunner for 2025
Background: Cal fought hard to keep Ott in the fold for 2025
but one of the top returning backs in college football is hitting the open market
Ott got off to a spectacular start to his career with the Bears
earning Freshman All-America honors as a true freshman starter in 2022 after putting up 1,218 all-purpose yards and 11 touchdowns in his debut season
leading the Pac-12 with 1,315 rushing yards and 12 TDs on his way to first-team all-conference honors
an ankle injury suffered in the season opener made it tough for Ott to play up to his potential
He still managed to play in 10 games but finished the year with 385 rushing yards on 3.3 yards per carry and five total scores
After receiving significant SEC interest this offseason
Ott is ready to get back to playing at a high level but is now looking to do so elsewhere for his senior season
Scout's take: Ott could be at the top of NFL draft boards if there wasn't a drop-off in production last season
While he lacked a formidable offensive line and played on an injured ankle
he still lacked the explosive runs we saw as an underclassman
He'll still be highly coveted in the spring portal market as an instant-impact weapon with his dynamic traits
Ott possesses exceptional feet and lateral agility
He's a verified 4.5 laser in the 40-yard dash with impressive explosive metrics
but his best asset is his vision and ability to pick and slide gap to gap with quick-twitch elusiveness
Ott doesn't give defenders a clean shot in the hole and can stretch and bounce to the perimeter just as effectively
He breaks tackles with balance more than power and is a productive pass-catching weapon out of the backfield
which raises his value and ability to fit into most schemes
he might not be able to carry the whole load in the backfield
HT: 6-6 | WT: 265 | Class: Redshirt sophomore
Background: Atkinson showed intriguing potential during his redshirt freshman season with the Tar Heels and took a big step forward in 2024 with a team-high 25 pressures
That's impressive production for an edge rusher who played an average of only 28 snaps per game
The former three-star recruit is viewed as a rising prospect with legitimate NFL draft pick potential
and he still has two more seasons to keep improving
Scout's take: This is a big loss for North Carolina
as Atkinson solidified himself as a future difference-maker on this team in 2024 and drew a lot of attention as a pass rusher
which makes him ultra-attractive in the transfer portal
good hand usage and plays with a high motor
He's extremely disruptive in one-on-one matchups
He's a locker room guy who will bring leadership traits and maturity along with a high level of production to his next destination
Atkinson emerged as a top priority as soon as he became available
he'll play for Belichick's former protege Matt Patricia in Columbus and should be an impact addition at defensive end
HT: 6-7 | WT: 315 | Class: Redshirt sophomore
a two-year starter at left tackle for the Coyotes and a second-team All-Missouri Valley Conference performer
will have no shortage of Power 4 opportunities in the spring portal
He's a top-10 returning tackle at the FCS level this season according to PFF grading and surrendered just one sack last season on a team that reached the FCS semifinals
Cotton is making the move up after his position coach left for Vanderbilt in February
Scout's take: Cotton flew under the radar out of high school as a tall and physically underdeveloped offensive tackle
Fast-forward three years and he's a quintessential left tackle with great length and agility on the edge
He has an excellent first step and strong hand placement to control defenders
As a run blocker he's active in the second level and very athletic in the way he moves
It's a big transition from the FCS to the Power 4
but Cotton is gifted with size and athletic ability that should plug and play at the highest level of competition
What he brings to Cincinnati: This is a massive get for the Bearcats
They've consistently done an impressive job of finding under-the-radar talent and quality starters in the portal
but this is a big splash and one they've been chasing since December while searching for a plug-and-play starter at left tackle
They got Cotton to shut down his process after his first official visit with Wisconsin
Texas A&M and several more Power 4 programs fighting to get him on campus
HT: 6-0 | WT: 220 | Class: Redshirt freshman
Background: Lopez emerged as one of the most exciting young quarterbacks at the Group of 5 level in 2024
taking over as the Jaguars' starter and putting together a breakout year with 2,559 passing yards
25 total touchdowns and seven turnovers for a 7-6 squad
The talented lefty was a top-25 FBS quarterback in total offense and ranked third in the Sun Belt in QBR (72.7) and yards per attempt (8.2)
Lopez was rumored to be considering a transfer in December after receiving serious Power 4 interest
but he ended up waiting until after spring practice to make his move
Scout's take: Lopez is a crafty, riverboat gambler in the mold of a Dillon Gabriel
Lopez is not your prototypical drop-back passer
he can distribute the ball and move the chains
He's like a point guard playing quarterback
He's also a fairly dynamic athlete that can create on his own and make plays when the initial call breaks down
He can also be used as a designated runner
which puts a lot of pressure on opposing defenses
There are times he can be streaky and must continue to display consistent accuracy and production
What he brings to North Carolina: Lopez to North Carolina was pretty much a done deal as soon as he hit the portal. The Tar Heels were clearly going to be in the market for a QB this spring with few experienced options on the roster beyond Max Johnson
New coach Bill Belichick and his staff are trusting the young QB is ready to make the move up and will catch up quickly this summer
but he'll be the favorite to win the starting job entering preseason camp
HT: 6-0 | WT: 184 | Class: Redshirt junior
Background: Pena has been a return specialist throughout his career with more than 1,400 career yards on kickoff and punt returns
But after missing almost the entire 2023 season due to injury
he came back strong and proved he could be a real playmaker at receiver
Pena emerged as Kyle McCord's go-to target and led the ACC with 84 receptions on the year
putting up 941 receiving yards and nine TDs to help spark a stunning turnaround and 10-win season under new coach Fran Brown
The second-team All-ACC performer will be a sixth-year senior this fall and is looking to boost his NFL draft stock with one more big season
Scout's take: Pena is very similar to former Miami wide receiver Xavier Restrepo
He's super reliable with terrific ball skills
a great feel for navigating zone coverage and always finds a way to get open
He's the ultimate security blanket for a quarterback when you absolutely have to have the catch on a critical down
He is a really crafty route runner who knows how to set up defenders and create separation in tight quarters
He's versatile and can play on the inside and outside
Background: Modozie was a revelation for an Army defense that finished tied for No
The third-team All-AAC selection started all 14 games and provided a team-high 28 pressures off the edge
He also made an impact on special teams with two blocked field goal attempts
The Florida native should generate plenty of Power 4 interest
Scout's take: This is arguably the highest-ceiling edge defender in this portal class
Modozie posted an elite 23-foot long jump but fell under the radar despite his size and explosiveness
He's well-built and powerful with the room to still develop physically
Modozie shows good initial quickness and lower-body explosiveness off the line to collapse the pocket and pressure the QB
He has heavy hands to shed and rip through bigger offensive tackles
He's reliable in the open field as a tackler and has more than adequate coverage skills
Modozie plays the game fast and physically
What he brings to Georgia: The Bulldogs moved quickly to lock up one of the more intriguing edge defenders in the spring portal
Adapting to playing at the SEC level can take some time for a transfer entering this conference
but the fact that Modozie has two seasons of eligibility remaining gives him plenty of time to develop into a difference-maker
Background: The three-star signee from Irvington
proved he was ready to play right away in 2024
making 11 starts as a true freshman and earning Freshman All-America recognition after producing 31 run stops
Watson became a reliable force as the season progressed
playing a season-high 64 snaps and logging six tackles in Syracuse's upset win over Miami in the regular season finale
He wasn't highly recruited coming out of high school
but the former Kent State commit has plenty of options now with Texas
Ohio State and Tennessee battling for his pledge
Scout's take: Watson was a sleeper out of high school who enjoyed a productive 2024 season
increasingly becoming a handful for opposing offensive fronts as the season wore on
He has above average height and is around 315 pounds but moves like he's 280
he can be a problem not just stopping the run but as a pass rusher as well
but also could be a real difficult matchup as a 5-tech over the tackle
Watson is a big-time get who should make an instant impact for a position group that is counting on a combination of unproven youth and portal newcomers to step up in 2025
HT: 6-4 | WT: 240 | Class: Redshirt sophomore
Background: Endries initially joined the Bears as a walk-on and quickly proved he could become a big-time contributor on offense
He earned Freshman All-America recognition in 2023 as a redshirt freshman starter and was the third-leading receiver among ACC tight ends last season
producing a team-high 56 catches for 623 yards and two touchdowns
Endries has turned 55 receptions into first downs over the past two seasons
second-most among all returning FBS tight ends
He'll be a top target for contenders still searching for tight end help
Scout's take: Endries is not elite in size or speed
but does run well and has proven to be an active receiving target due to good hands and excellent body control
He'll be one of the more well-rounded and reliable receivers in the spring portal
Background: After two solid seasons at Syracuse
Wilson transferred to Houston and proved he can be a difference-maker
He snagged four interceptions last season and allowed just 12 completions on 33 targets
the fourth-lowest completion percentage (36%) among Big 12 starting corners according to ESPN Research
Wilson has one more season ahead of him and is hoping he can boost his draft stock in 2025 by making one more move
Aside from great physical traits on the perimeter
He has a really good feel for zone coverage and how to align himself to bait quarterbacks into making poor decisions with the football
Wilson displays the short-area quickness and burst in man coverage to lock people down one-on-one
He's very competitive in contested matchups where his ball skills become magnified
What he brings to Florida State: The Kissimmee
native is coming back to his home state and reuniting with defensive coordinator Tony White
who previously coached him during his freshman year at Syracuse
Wilson brings needed experience and should catch up quickly as he gets back to playing in a defense he already knows
Background: Haulcy began his career at New Mexico in 2022 and turned a strong true freshman season into an opportunity to come home and play for Houston
He's been a two-year starter for the Cougars and earned first-team All-Big 12 honors last season after picking off five passes and recording eight pass breakups plus 74 tackles
Scout's take: Haulcy is a prototypical hard-hitting safety who is a bit of a throwback player
He's physical and loves to throw his body around
but also has the personality and leadership skills to be the heart and soul of a defense
What he brings to LSU: This is the cherry on top of LSU's extremely impressive portal recruiting class. Haulcy and NC State transfer Tamarcus Cooley represent significant upgrades at the safety position for the Tigers
It'll be interesting to see how secondary coach Corey Raymond moves his guys around this fall
2 in SEC play in passing yards per game just added a lot more talent this offseason
Background: Bush emerged as an immediate difference-maker for the Flames as a true freshman in 2023
taking over a starting role and putting together a Freshman All-America debut season
leading the team with 9.5 tackles for loss and 5.5 sacks as a second-team All-Conference USA selection
He might not have the prototypical size every staff is seeking
but Bush brings impressive production as a disruptor
producing the second-most pressures (51) in Conference USA over his first two seasons
Scout's take: Bush is an active defender who possesses an explosive burst and fierce mentality to disrupt and create havoc behind the line of scrimmage
He lacks ideal length but has good bulk and plays with a powerful base
Bush shows quick hands and uses them well to gain leverage and defeat blockers
He displays good awareness reading blocks and will effectively squeeze down to put himself in position to make plays
He shows a plan of attack as a pass rusher but lacks elite bend and redirection
Bush is a bit of an overachiever with quick pursuit
which will make him attractive in the portal
What he brings to Cal: The Bears were thrilled to pull off this pickup
Bush will have an opportunity to make a big impact for Cal's front as a proven replacement off the edge for Xavier Carlton
who racked up a team-high nine sacks in 2024 and proved he's worthy of being an NFL draft pick
was the highest-ranked signee in Texas Tech history
But his true freshman season did not play out the way he'd hoped
and he finished with eight catches for 123 yards in a reserve role
Hudson transferred to Texas A&M this offseason but left the program in January soon after he arrived
Scout's take: Hudson enters the portal for the second time in two years
He played in the 2024 Under Armour All-America Game to culminate an amazing high school career
but we did see a lack of urgency and production in that small sample size
it was surprising that he didn't have much impact as a freshman given his playmaking speed and dynamic skill set
He's a natural pass catcher and has the explosive athleticism to elevate and pluck the contested jump ball
but his true separation speed at the college level is the key question
He did not have verified track or combine testing times as an upperclassman in high school
His early times in the 100- and 200-meter were just adequate
If Hudson attacks this opportunity with the right mentality
he could become an X factor for a squad that has more than enough talent to win the Big 12 in 2025
Transferring from: USF | Transferring to: LSU
Background: Gooden doesn't have the career resume of most of these top spring transfers
but he put more than enough on tape in 2024 to merit strong demand
Gooden played a rotational role as a redshirt freshman at Wake Forest in 2022 before transferring to USF and sitting out the 2023 season
He achieved his breakout season with the Bulls last year
earning 11 starts and producing 27 pressures
10 TFLs and 1.5 sacks to earn honorable mention All-AAC recognition
Gooden's 21 interior pressures ranked second-most among all G5 defensive linemen
Scout's take: Gooden is an undersized La'Roi Glover-type of defensive tackle
He's at his best as a shade or a one technique
He's the type of player that can be a handful one-on-one
consistent run-stuffer due to his lack of height and weight
but Gooden can be a problem if you leave him alone on an island
He has strong hands to shed and escape and is active down the line of scrimmage with quickness
One of the better undersized defensive tackles in the portal if you want a guy with a good motor
the Tigers should be just fine here with a defensive front that has improved considerably thanks to portal pickups
HT: 6-4 | WT: 318 | Class: Redshirt junior
Background: After a three-year stint at LSU in which he played sparingly
Hill moved on to Memphis and developed into a first-team All-AAC performer for the Tigers
He started 26 consecutive games and brought valuable versatility to Memphis' offensive line with his ability to switch between left guard and right tackle
It's not easy to find experienced offensive line help in the spring portal
so Hill should get plenty of attention as a proven starter who has played more than 2,000 career snaps
Scout's take: Massive offensive tackle who will likely be recruited to play guard when transitioning to the P4 level
He's got a powerful base and is a great run blocker on down blocks and pulls
He dominates when he gets his hands locked on and will wash defenders down really effectively on inside runs
Hill looks for work and is active in the second level
He will absorb power rushers and eat them up with his wide base in pass protection
the American Athletic Conference star shows some lack of agility in pass pro
which is a concern if he remains at tackle
What he brings to Colorado: The Buffaloes had already brought in four transfer offensive linemen this offseason in their efforts to reload a unit that features Freshman All-American left tackle Jordan Seaton but should depend on several newcomers yet again this fall
Hill can play multiple roles but likely starts off at left guard
one of the most productive returning tight ends in the country
is back in the portal after joining the Badgers this offseason
Koziol caught 94 passes last season (fourth most in FBS) for the Cardinals and produced 839 receiving yards and eight touchdowns
The second-team All-MAC performer and former freshman All-American is a flex tight end and a dependable target who led all FBS tight ends with 22 contested catches in 2024
Scout's take: Koziol has a huge frame with a well-rounded skill set that could make him extremely coveted yet again
He's a productive pass catcher who takes advantage of his size to shield smaller defenders on jump balls
He's a really good high pointer and that combination of height
hands and leaping ability make him a matchup nightmare
Koziol is also a really effective blocker with strong inside hand placement and finishing power to drive back defenders
HT: 6-2 | WT: 200 | Class: Redshirt junior
Background: Neal signed with Stanford this offseason but backed out of those plans during their coaching transition
He could end up being far more coveted during his second portal recruitment thanks to his size and tape
Neal allowed just 12 catches for 159 yards on 33 targets last season
Scout's take: Neal is an impressive physical prospect with good instincts and productivity
Neal shows good recovery when caught out of position and uses his length to get on top of routes and break up passes
He will come up and tackle and is active in pursuit with great range
The question at the P4 level is his transitional skills and hips to match up in man-to-man defense versus quicker and more explosive receivers
He projects best as a safety or nickel corner
What he brings to Arkansas: Neal is joining a cornerback room that features a ton of competition but no established standouts. The Razorbacks finished last in the SEC in pass defense in 2024 and brought in transfer Jordan Young from Cincinnati
but he was sidelined for spring ball with an injury
Neal emerging as a trusted starter would make him a valuable upgrade
HT: 6-4 | WT: 300 | Class: Redshirt senior
Background: Samuel has been a popular target among Power 4 teams still looking for post-spring offensive line help
He'll be a sixth-year senior this fall and has started 15 games at left tackle for the Mountaineers over the past two seasons
picking up honorable mention All-Sun Belt honors in 2024
Scout's take: Samuel is a moderately sized offensive tackle with a well-rounded skill set
He's an effective run and pass blocker but did not dominate in either trait
He shows knock-back power as a run blocker with a solid base and strong push
Samuel moves well enough to combo block to the second level
takes good angles and walls off linebackers effectively
He's able to wash down and cut off quicker inside defenders on zone schemes
Samuel shoots his hands well in pass pro and will also sit and absorb the stronger bull rush
He's not super smooth with bend and redirection
which is a concern when projecting up to the P4 level
What he brings to Oklahoma State: The Cowboys brought in three players via the portal and one junior college transfer this offseason in an effort to overhaul their offensive line
They competed with Big 12 foes UCF and Kansas plus a long list of interested Power 4 programs for a pledge from Samuel
who should be a plug-and-play starter at tackle
Background: After a productive debut season followed by an abrupt head coaching change in Palo Alto
Mosley decided to explore his options in the portal
He quickly earned a starting role as a true freshman and finished strong with two 100-yard performances in November
2 receiver with 48 receptions for 525 yards and 6 touchdowns
Mosley broke multiple single-game freshman records for the Cardinals when he lit up Louisville for 13 catches
168 receiving yards and 3 touchdowns in an upset victory
Scout's take: Mosley should be a hot player in the portal and reminds me of Elijah Sarratt at Indiana
With multiple years of eligibility remaining and a distinct sample size
he's as close to a can't-miss addition at the wide receiver position as the portal has to offer
Mosley is fast enough to take the top off the defense
big enough to win the 50-50 jump ball and agile enough to extend plays after the catch on underneath throws
HT: 6-0 | WT: 195 | Class: Redshirt junior
Background: One of the best kick returners in the country is now on the market
Marion earned first-team All-America honors in 2024 thanks to 96- and 100-yard kickoff return touchdowns
He was an under-the-radar portal pickup for the Cougars in 2023 who spent two seasons at UConn and was the Huskies' leading receiver as a freshman
Marion has produced 1,261 total yards and 12 touchdowns on offense as a receiver and rusher during his career
That triple-threat ability has made him one of the most coveted playmakers in this portal window
Scout's take: Marion is a natural playmaker with the ball in his hands and was perhaps underutilized as a receiver at BYU
He sees the field extremely well and has a great feel for the game
Marion flashes good foot speed but is quicker than fast and is not a burner
He's a sharp cutter without gearing down and is difficult to get a clean shot on
he can turn the short pass or reverse into a big gain with impressive lateral quickness and slippery jump-cuts
He shows good downfield tracking skills and will go up and compete for the jump ball despite lacking great height and length
What he brings to Miami: The Hurricanes are counting on young wideouts to step up this season, but they've also been able to complement quarterback Carson Beck with the additions of Marion and WR CJ Daniels (LSU)
who was limited by an injury in spring practice
Miami OC Shannon Dawson should get Marion the ball in a variety of ways on offense
but he's also out to prove he's more than just a gadget player and special teams ace
This could end up being a critical acquisition for a Hurricanes squad that's determined to win the ACC in 2025
HT: 6-3 | WT: 250 | Class: Redshirt freshman
Background: Lang, a former three-star recruit, redshirted in his first year with the Tigers and made the most of the limited reps he saw in 2024, recording 13 stops, 7 pressures and 3 sacks on 139 snaps. The Tigers now have a ton of depth at edge rusher after adding Georgia's Damon Wilson II and two more transfers this offseason
so Lang is leaving a crowded room in search of a chance to play a more significant role
Scout's take: Lang is one of the more intriguing defensive linemen in this spring portal class
He's a high-upside prospect out of high school with a good blend of size
speed and athleticism who still has not reached his ceiling
He packed on the required size in a redshirt season and broke out as a second-year edge defender with consistent play versus the run and pass in rotational snaps
He's active with a high motor when in pursuit and can bend and finish
Lang is not a finesse guy or super lengthy
but he wins as a pass rusher generating good upfield quickness
strength and leverage and is a more effective bull rusher collapsing the pocket than using speed
he can hold at the point of attack or cross face with raw power to shoot gaps
What he brings to SMU: The Mustangs won a head-to-head battle with Colorado for Lang, and he'll get a chance to compete for a starting spot on a D-line that is trying to replace the production of senior starters Elijah Roberts and Jahfari Harvey
SMU has now brought in seven defensive linemen via the portal this offseason
102 overall recruit in the ESPN 300 for 2024 made the preseason transition from linebacker to edge rusher in his first year with the Gamecocks
He played just seven snaps over two games during his redshirt year
Gregory is now hitting the portal with four more seasons to play and plenty of developmental upside
Scout's take: Gregory still has a very high ceiling as a college prospect
He's still developing physically and honing his pass rush skill
Gregory has experience playing wide receiver in high school and was a sprinter on the track team
He flashes good range and explosiveness in space and has strong hands and burst off the edge as a pass rusher
He can be scheme versatile with his ability to also drop in coverage and play sideline-to-sideline
He may not be a day one plug-and-play defender
but he's a player who can develop long-term
What he brings to Oklahoma State: The Cowboys have been aggressive during the spring portal window and quickly picked up four transfers on offense
Now they've added more edge help for first-year DC Todd Grantham with Gregory
a developmental player with intriguing upside who could prove to be a long-term steal
HT: 6-3 | WT: 205 | Class: Redshirt sophomore
Background: Angeli is moving on after a three-way spring competition with CJ Carr and Kenny Minchey for the starting job
He has some memorable moments over his three seasons with the Fighting Irish
including a critical scoring drive to help spark a comeback in the CFP semifinal victory over Penn State
and he played well in a 40-8 bowl victory over Oregon State at the end of the 2023 season
But Carr looks likely to take over as a redshirt freshman
so Angeli is hitting the portal in search of an opportunity to take the next step and become a starter in 2025
but he must've seen the writing on the wall
efficient and productive when he's had opportunities
While he might not be the most dynamic athlete
he is extremely consistent in his methods and could be a guy that could find another home and be similar to Eli Holstein last year when he left Alabama for Pitt
What he brings to Syracuse: After striking gold with Kyle McCord out of the portal in Year 1, coach Fran Brown is betting that Angeli is prepared to play at a high level as a first-time starter. LSU transfer Rickie Collins was named Syracuse's starter coming out of spring practice but has played just 32 career snaps
Angeli has some catching up to do but should bring valuable experience and leadership from his time with the Irish
HT: 6-5 | WT: 326 | Class: Redshirt senior
Background: Nelson joined the Nittany Lions via Lackawanna Community College and took on a starting role in his second year in the program, making eight starts at left guard and picking up honorable mention All-Big Ten recognition. After playing behind Olaivavega Ioane last season in a reserve role
Nelson was competing to start at right guard in practice this spring before opting to enter the portal and seek a better opportunity elsewhere ahead of his final season
Scout's take: Nelson will be sought after as a veteran presence with size
strength and starting experience in the Big Ten
He plays with a physicality that you want on the interior
He adds value with his swing potential to play both tackle positions as well as guard
He's long with above-average agility and movement skills in pass pro
His strong hands with a good base generate a push as an interior run blocker
Nelson lays the game with good physicality and is a finisher
so it's not a surprise K-State was looking for extra depth and competition
Sumeya Haji Ibrahim shouted to her friends
who were clad in plastic rain ponchos and sheltering under a tunnel inside Ohio Stadium
right," one of her friends replied with a smirk
Nothing could dampen Haji Ibrahim's day — not even an hour of steady showers that disrupted Ohio State University's spring commencement ceremony Sunday
who received her master's degree in health administration
The rain and everything that comes with this
Haji Ibrahim was among the more than 9,300 graduates in attendance at Sunday's commencement inside Ohio Stadium
nearly 12,400 degrees and certificates were delivered to graduates this semester
The ceremony began at noon under partly sunny skies and ran about two-and-a-half hours
hastened slightly by a spring shower that started as U.S
Commencement is only canceled if the ceremony cannot be held in Ohio Stadium due to severe weather
like torrential downpours and thunderstorms
That's because no indoor facility on campus can accommodate the graduating class and 60,000 guests
A wave of umbrellas opened and ponchos were donned as a light drizzle turned into a cold steady rainstorm
Dozens of graduates and their families took shelter inside Ohio Stadium during the rain
Although graduates were given ponchos by commencement organizers before the ceremony started
both receiving bachelor's degrees from the College of Education and Human Ecology
helped each other slip on the $9 ponchos they had to buy over their mortar boards as they waited out the rain
The pair did not see the free ones the university was giving out
Despite that and the weather that necessitated the ponchos
Ballesteros said she was glad to be at commencement
After a few weeks of "lasts" — her last day student teaching
her last trip to the Recreation and Physical Activity Center (RPAC)
her last time seeing some of her classmates — she said the ceremony helped bring her closure
"It's my last time as a student in Ohio Stadium
But the ceremony also sparked hope for new beginnings
They both appreciated Bolden's commencement address
which they described as relevant and encouraging
Bolden served as NASA's 12th administrator from 2009 to 2017, and was the space agency's first Black administrator
He served for 34 years in the Marine Corps
including 14 years in NASA's astronaut office
Space travel was never top of Bolden's mind as a 22-year-old attending flight training at the Naval Air Station in Meridian
He recalled sitting in front of a black-and-white TV with friends to watch the first moon landing on TV in July 1969
but he and his fellow service members were embroiled in war far away and had other things on their minds
It wasn't until a mentor encouraged him years later that he applied to the astronaut program
Bolden told the graduates it's OK if they aren't certain in this moment where they'll land professionally
is staying involved in the civic life of our country
there is something you can do to make this nation better right where you live and work," Bolden said
Bolden imparted the words of Nelson Mandela: "Sometimes it falls upon a generation to be great."
"Democracy is not a spectator's sport," Bolden said
and if you've just been observing for the past few years
Bolden shared some of the wisdom he and his wife
have long told their children and grandchildren: "Be bold
don't listen to anyone who tells you (that) you can't do something or that you don't belong."
He said that advice is especially true for the women and minorities in this class
"Don't waste your time trying to explain yourself or your identity to anyone," he continued
"Don't feel like you have to justify why you are where you are."
who both plan to get teaching jobs after graduation
Barlow said at a time when many people have told her how difficult it must be graduating during political unrest and economic uncertainty
it's really encouraging to hear older generations urging us to go out and live out these values," Ballesteros said
The clouds began to part as the final doctoral students were hooded and walked across the commencement stage
Ohio," graduates walked onto the field to receive their diplomas under clearing blue skies and sun
a lightning strike within 10 miles forced those still hanging around outside the stadium and the RPAC to go inside the latter or disperse for safety reasons

This spring has been a long celebration—one after another
It’s the season when the energy around town reaches a fever pitch
and there’s a sense that winter is finally behind us
It’s loud and joyful and chaotic in the best ways—a fitting kickoff to what has turned into one of the most celebratory seasons of my life
I headed across the Atlantic to begin the first of six RSJ Yonderlust Tours
I hosted my guests on a 10th-floor rooftop during Las Fallas
Valencia’s biggest and boldest celebration
Las Fallas traces its roots back to the old tradition of carpenters burning leftover wood scraps as winter ended
it evolved into a city-wide festival with massive
intricate sculptures—called fallas—paraded through the streets before being set ablaze
and it felt like the entire community was connected by tradition and sheer joy
Standing there watching this citywide party unfold
it was impossible not to get caught up in the beauty
we made our way to Tuscany to host three groups
Easter in Tuscany is something everyone should experience at least once
and Easter brings it all together in a way that feels like a personal celebration of life itself
We celebrated at our friend Marina’s house
at a long lunch—with people from three continents at the table
It was an Easter rooted in simple pleasures—good food
a moment that cast a bittersweet reflection over the holiday
It was a reminder that even in seasons of celebration
The next stop was Amsterdam— to join my fourth group on a trek through The Netherlands and Belgium— perfectly timed for King’s Day
King’s Day celebrates the birthday of King Willem-Alexander
but it’s really just a nationwide excuse for pure
The Dutch dress in orange—the whole country does
and canals all glow in shades of bright orange as music blares and parties unfold
instead of watching from a rooftop like we did in Spain
weaving our way through the bumper-to-bumper traffic of other boats packed with celebrants
I thought we might be stuck for good in a floating stalemate
mixing the soundtrack to our own little floating party
I’ve never seen anything like it—the whole city laughing
unforgettable celebrations I’ve ever witnessed
It will be my first Mother’s Day without my mother
and though that reality carries a quiet weight
I’ll honor my wife and all that she has done for our family
and celebrations of love and family carry an even deeper meaning
and it’s worth saying how much I love this part of my work
have traveled with me a combined total of 114 times
and that’s not something I ever take for granted
These travelers aren’t just guests—they’ve become dear friends
and witnessing their own celebrations along the way
is one of the most rewarding things I get to do
This has also been one of the longest periods I’ve been away
I will have been on the road for over two months
England and Scotland are still ahead for one last group this spring
I also look forward to getting home—to my family and restaurants
where one new project is under construction and others are on the drawing board
Our latest documentary at the Institute for Southern Storytelling—on Eudora Welty—was just nominated for five Southeast Regional Emmy Awards
Hopefully there will be more celebrating to do in June
I also received word about a few other upcoming honors that I’ll be able to share soon
2025 has been a year of celebrations already
But in all these celebrations—Mardi Gras beads flying
orange-clad boat parades in Amsterdam—one moment stands above them all
I can still see my daughter and her new husband on stage at the end of their wedding night
The band had called them up for the final song
and shining with a kind of pure joy that I will never forget
My daughter has always been full of light—joyful
it struck me how quickly the years had passed
how all the little moments that made her who she is had led to this beautiful
No celebration this spring—or any spring—could ever come close to matching that
In the American South we eat shrimp and grits
In the small hilltop village of Montefioralle
the village’s only restaurant serves ribs cooked over a wood fire and seasoned only with salt and pepper
That preparation is nice if all one is eating is ribs
This is a typical Italian home-style preparation of ribs
These ribs are baked in a hearty tomato stock and are perfectly matched with polenta
sliced into individual pieces¼ cup House seasoning blend (see recipe)¼ cup Extra virgin olive oil2 cups Yellow onion
minced¼ cup Tomato paste2 cups Dry red wine1 – 28 oz
with juice2 tsp Kosher salt1 tsp Fresh ground black pepper1 recipe Polenta (see recipe)
Season the ribs with the house seasoning blend
Heat the oil in a large roasting pan over high heat
sear the rib pieces on each side until browned
set the ribs aside and lower the heat medium-low
about 4-6 minutes. Add the tomato paste and stir constantly for 5 minutes so as not to scorch
Deglaze the pan with the wine and reduce by half
salt and pepper and continue cooking for 5 more minutes

looking at November rain through the car’s windshield in Denver.A slow moving spring storm is spinning across the Four Corners region starting Monday bringing rain and snow to the state through Wednesday
The main surge of moisture will hit Tuesday
Pueblo and Colorado Springs can continue to expect rain Monday before the system brings higher accumulations to metro Denver starting Tuesday morning.
Higher elevations between 8,500 and 9,000 feet will see light to moderate snow starting Monday afternoon before the storm picks up Tuesday thanks to colder temperatures.
we're generally looking at a foot or more of snow
Some places could be looking at as many as 18 inches to two feet,” said National Weather Service meteorologist Zach Hiris
That means roads in the high country have the potential to be slushy
The foothills are more uncertain with snow predictions hinging on how low the temperature falls while storm clouds linger.
The incoming storm has the potential to wipe out any lingering drought effects in the Front Range
but it won’t be the heaviest rain we’ve seen in recent years.
“It was only a couple of years ago where we had four or five inches of rain across the area in a single storm,” Hiris said
“This time around accumulations will be between one and three inches.”
Denver is expected to get just under an inch of rain by the time the storm rolls through the metro
Higher elevations like Estes Park and Georgetown can expect closer to two inches total by Wednesday.
Hiris said drivers should expect roads to be slick during both the morning and evening commutes through metro Denver Tuesday
“Especially the first little bit of rain where you're washing off some of the oils on the roads
just take a little slower and if you're heading up into the mountains
prepare for winter travel conditions,” said Hiris.
The storm system will dissipate by Thursday
making way for sunnier skies with highs in the 70s throughout Mother’s Day weekend in metro Denver.

When we looked at the portal back in February, for the most part Cal had positionally replaced what they had lost to graduation/portal departures. This time around . . . not so much.
Note: I am classifying interior linemen and outside linebackers as defensive linemen
PK Kyle Cunanan . . . sorta. I mean, he came to Cal in the winter portal, so did we ever actually have him? Nebraska
The spring portal has been just like the entirety of the Justin Wilcox era: filled with good news on defense, and bad news on offense.
On the defensive side of the ball, Cal has added six players as compared to three departures. Hunter Barth, Ryan Yaites, and Myles Williams combined for 516 snaps, and all three were in back-up rotational roles, so their departures aren’t inconsequential. But none were likely to be starters in the fall. Meanwhile, the six players Cal has brought in on defense includes:
An edge rusher who earned Conference USA 2nd team honors as a sophomore (Bush).
A middle linebacker who was one of the key contributors to BYU’s unexpected Big-12 title run (Taggart).
An established corner with solid AAC credentials (Austin).
Basically, Cal traded three back-ups for three starters, plus three other players who could be contributors at some point. Shemwell is particularly intriguing, because he has a solid recruiting profile and four years of eligibility remaining after redshirting at Utah last year. The spring portal has been a clear win on defense.
And on offense . . . well, I don’t need to tell you. Cal lost major expected contributors at tight end and wide receiver, and also the entire running back room.
And in their place, Cal has secured one intriguing wide receiver who tore it up as a redshirt freshman at Idaho, and three rotational running backs who have never been featured starters.
Quite simply, it’s a massive roster downgrade both in terms of raw numbers (10 skill position players out, 4 in) and talent. And it’s not entirely clear how Cal is going to supplement the roster this late in the cycle.
As an example, if you go to 247 sports and sort their rankings of the best WRs currently uncommitted in the portal, you’ll find a list topped by . . . Tobias Merriweather. In other words, roster upgrades aren’t really out there. Meanwhile, 247 only lists 4 available tight ends, topped by a transfer from Rice coming off of a 12 catch season.
If you were a Cal fan inclined to try to find a ray of hope, you might have tried to convince yourself that Cal’s offensive roster churn was a natural consequence of Bryan Harsin wanting to bring players who fit his system or something. But I don’t think it makes any sense that Harsin would wait to run off a bunch of players in the spring when viable replacements just aren’t available. Right now, presuming I’m counting correctly, Cal’s roster has:
9 scholarship wide receivers (including one true freshman and two redshirt freshmen) ed. note - amended because Nick forgot South Dakota transfer Quaron Adams
If I’m being brutally honest, this isn’t an offensive roster that is ready to compete in the ACC. None of these positions have enough depth, and it would only take a couple of injuries to enter crisis territory. It’s apparently possible that Cal will enter the season with a tight end rotation that has five combined catches to their name, none at the FBS level.
In short, Cal’s coaches desperately need to add non-QB skill position players, if only just to have bodies available to play the positions. Are there any ACC-level athletes left in the transfer portal? That is entirely unclear.
Bryan Harsin . . . good luck, we’re all counting on you.
QB: Short term dip as Mendoza is more proven and can shown he can throw well inside 15 yards but Brown and JKS are not a big dip overall.
RB: We lost 3 depth role players plus Ott and Jet. Ott was a non factor last year and Jet did well running but cant block to save his life. Total, they ran for about 1k yards? The 3 incoming transfers all averaged over 5 ypc and fit the new offense better. Plus, they block. Don't forget Wiley made a big jump and the incoming frosh, League, is very talented as well. Frankly, I think the RB room will have a significantly better year than last year.
TE: Definitely a downgrade. Endries is a Pro but Cal wasn't paying $1.2M to hold onto him. Mini, Johnson and Marshall are a solid but unspectacular group.
OL: Miles better. Continents better. Universes better.
And I suspect we'll still see a couple more adds to the roster. WR and TE seem likely but will be depth adds in all likelihood. I feel pretty good about our roster now and the fit with the new offensive scheme. Question will be turnovers (how many do we commit) but with out overall schedule, a strong season is more likely than not IMO

Back in February when the winter transfer portal carousel was calming down, I put together a summary of comings and goings
with the na\u00EFve hope that Cal\u2019s spring activity would be much more muted
When we looked at the portal back in February

cleaned it off and got ready to head out on the Paul Bunyan Trail
I am largely unaffected by seasonal allergies in the spring and fall
as soon as I get ready to spend some evenings heading out on the trails
I get hit with a cold that traps me indoors for a stretch of days
The best laid plans of mice and men often go awry
As disruptive and irritating as a seasonal cold can be
I know that I can take some solace in the fact that it will only cost me a handful of days
In a change of activities for my off hours
I went back to some unfinished audiobooks and sorting and editing a significant stack of digital photos from my recent trip through the Southwest
Instead of taking my regular backpack as my personal item on the plane
I loaded up my camera bag with a variety of cameras and lenses
but air travel with a bag full of fragile camera equipment can be fairly nerve-wracking
what I left that trip with were a thousand or so pictures of time spent with family
expansive vistas and stunning bits of nature
Despite it being a bit cumbersome to travel with
having quality personal photos of national parks and breathtaking views was certainly worth the hassle
but you really can never take too many photos
even with that trip only having been a few weeks ago
highlighted how many little moments and details from our memory get lost over time
I’ll have something to share with the people I spent that time with
Even if it’s with the camera that you’ve got in your pocket
try to make the effort to record the people and places around you

"Roar Like Thunder" was recorded in Nashville at Sienna Studios and helmed by producer and songwriter-for-hire Marti Frederiksen
who has previously collaborated with AEROSMITH
All 10 tracks were written by BUCKCHERRY vocalist Josh Todd
BUCKCHERRY guitarist Stevie Dacanay (a.k.a
"Roar Like Thunder" will be released in North America by Round Hill Records
in Japan by Sony Japan and in the remainder of the world by Earache Records
In a recent interview with Stefs Rock Show
Dacanay stated about the making of "Roar Like Thunder": "Josh and I usually start a year before the recording process
We start demoing here [at my home studio in Los Angeles]
we set aside a few weeks somewhere along the way and we get with our producer
He's become like the sixth member of the band… And when we write with Marti
And what we do is we take all these ideas and we kind of flesh them out more
and we'll have songwriting sessions and come up with 10 songs for an album."
In January, Josh told TalkShopLive about "Roar Like Thunder": "It's really great
It's a rocking record from beginning to end
We labored over the songwriting for a long time
and it's a lot of fun from beginning to end."
In December, Todd told Indie Power TV about BUCKCHERRY's working relationship with Frederiksen: "Yeah
We co-wrote 'Sorry' with Marti way back on [the] '15' [album]
and then 'Black Butterfly' and 'Confessions'
It's just unfortunate that we didn't get to continue with him because of the politics in B.C
I don't ever wanna do a record without him
He understands this band for what's special about BUCKCHERRY
I think we bring out elements in him that he likes
We leave the egos at the door and we get to it and we always make great stuff
So it's been a lot of fun making records."
And he's gonna be a big player down the line too
And just like Marti — Marti started on drums; that was his instrument
And then [Marti] eventually got into songwriting
and he can play guitar and he sings and he does it all
He's always writing with somebody at all times
And I always learn so much doing records with him."
"Vol. 10" came out in June 2023. The 11-song LP featured 10 new BUCKCHERRY originals and, as a bonus track, a cover of the Bryan Adams classic "Summer Of 69".
In November 2023, BUCKCHERRY released a new holiday song called "Tell 'Em It's Christmas".
BUCKCHERRY previously released another holiday song, "Christmas Is Here", back in 2010.
In the summer of 2020, BUCKCHERRY recruited JETBOY's Rowe as its new guitarist. He joined the group as the replacement for Kevin Roentgen, who left BUCKCHERRY in July of that year.
In 2019, BUCKCHERRY enlisted Ruiz as its new drummer. He joined the group as the replacement for Sean Winchester, who exited BUCKCHERRY after laying down the drum tracks on "Warpaint".
BUCKCHERRY will perform the "15" album in its entirety on all 2025 tour dates which begin in March.

arts and entertainment, Dexter Community Band, free concert
The Dexter Community Band will host its summer-themed concert on May 18 at the Dexter High School’s Center for Performing Arts
The performance will feature “Casey at the Bat” and Principal Trumpet Richard Savitski performing an original version of George Gershwin’s “Summertime.”
a long-time Dexter resident who has been in the band since 2001
the opportunity to play an extended solo on an American classic is a tribute to someone who had a profound impact on his life and that of many other local musicians — Dr
Savitski was once a member of Lawrence’s award-winning Washtenaw Community College Jazz Orchestra
“Morris had a policy that everyone in the band needed to play an improvised solo
It was a great way to help you understand and connect with the music on a different level,” he said
The free concert also marks the return of Stephen West
professor of music and Chair of the Department of Voice & Opera at the University of Michigan School of Music
a bass-baritone who has performed in operas around the world
will narrate Ernest Thayer’s famous 1888 poem “Casey at the Bat.” The poem was put to music by Randol Alan Bass and first performed in 2001

Strong winds and unseasonable heat are drying out the North Bay’s landscape
signaling an early shift toward fire season
Lea el artículo en español aquí.
green hillsides of the North Bay are still offering some protection against fire danger — but that may not last long
With strong offshore winds and unusually warm temperatures sweeping through the region
Gusts reached up to 80 mph late Sunday on Mount St
and temperatures in inland cities like Santa Rosa and Napa could hit the mid-80s this week
Meteorologist Dylan Flynn of the weather service’s Monterey office said the wind and heat are helping dry out vegetation that still holds moisture from the rainy season
is “kind of a primer” for what’s to come as the region shifts toward fire season
While the valleys will stay warm all week — with Santa Rosa forecast to hit 84 degrees Monday and 82 degrees Friday — Monday stands out for one reason: The coast is just as hot
Thanks to strong winds blowing over the inland mountains
the marine layer that normally keeps coastal areas cool was pushed offshore
“Places that aren't used to being in the 70s
are going to be in 70s today — and they're going to the 70s early,” Flynn said
Even Bodega Bay is expected to hit abnormally high temperatures
That coastal cooldown is expected to return Tuesday
as the marine layer begins to creep back in and drops temperatures back into the 60s
The “near-gale force” winds across Napa County began easing by late Monday morning
but Flynn said they could linger through Tuesday
dry air from the north and northeast will keep pulling moisture from the landscape
And while the North Bay has seen healthy rainfall totals overall — the Charles M
Schulz-Sonoma County Airport has recorded 8.66 inches above normal for the water year
which started in October — April was far drier than average
Most parts of the region received just 25% to 30% of their usual rainfall last month
The last widespread rainstorm was more than a month ago

BRUSSELS — The spring drought plaguing Europe since March is worsening and spreading to more countries, the European Commission's scientific service warned today
A lack of rainfall and warmer than usual weather have dried out soils and sapped rivers across large stretches of Central and Eastern Europe
including the continent's grain production powerhouses Poland and Ukraine
Dry conditions are starting to spread to almost every corner of the continent
the Commission's Joint Research Centre (JRC) said in a new report
as well as the eastern Mediterranean region
are experiencing broadening warning drought conditions
Similar conditions are emerging in north-western Europe," they write
The "warning" stage is the second of three drought development categories used by the JRC's European Drought Observatory
In the EU, only the Iberian peninsula, southern France and most of Italy have been spared so far, according to the observatory's latest update
Forecasts for the coming months suggest higher than usual temperatures up to July
though some forecasts point to drier conditions over large parts of northern Europe
parts of Germany and the Benelux countries
While other factors such as water mismanagement contribute to dry conditions
droughts are predicted to become more frequent and intense in Europe as a result of climate change
People rarely think about Europe’s criss-crossing energy system
what went wrong (and right) on Monday and what happens next
There has not been any type of intrusion in the electrical network control systems,” authorities say
Portugal also remains in the dark following mass power outage south of the Pyrenees
The idea will be one of several options Brussels will suggest in May to sever Russian energy links

(WSMV) - More than three decades after the murder of Pamela McCall
the man accused of taking her life has been convicted of first-degree murder
The Spring Hill Police Department said her identity remained unknown for nearly a month
Ron Coleman was the Spring Hill Police Department officer assigned to investigate Pamela’s death
SHPD said Coleman promised Pamela’s mother that he would not rest until he caught her daughter’s killer
and Tommy Goetz of the 22nd District Attorney’s Office led the investigation
A major breakthrough came when DNA evidence collected at the scene in 1991 was received by the Tennessee crime lab and a profile match connected Clark Baldwin
It also connected him to the murders of two women in Wyoming
and Ron Coleman was able to let Pamela’s mother know of Baldwin’s arrest
but she died before the case went to trial
On May 2, 2025, a Maury County jury finally found Clark Baldwin guilty of killing McCall
Coleman placed handcuffs on the man he had pursued for decades with cuffs from the Spring Hill Police Department
This conviction helped bring some closure for Pamela’s brother and son
Both expressed their appreciation for the Spring Hill
and all the different agencies involved for not forgetting their mother and sister
We can now rest assured that he will NEVER be back on the streets of our world
Baldwin will be extradited to Wyoming to face similar charges
and I stand ready to continue to assist in the case for as long as needed
I am at peace for the first time in 34 years
Here are instructions on how to watch WSMV4 live on various platforms.
Baldwin was sentenced after the verdict to life in prison
The District Attorney General’s office said he will soon be transported to Wyoming to be tried for the murders of two other women whose bodies were also found in the early 90s
Teams across the state took advantage of the spring transfer portal to reinforce positions of need and shore up depth across the board ahead of the 2025 season.
The Texas Longhorns were the most impressive of the bunch
a rising star at wide receiver and multiple defensive tackles in April
Texas Tech continued its roster overhaul with a talented edge rusher and a pair of high upside wide receivers
Multiple teams in the G5 also added potential starters to the mix
though the imports might not outweigh the exports at that level.
Here are our 10 favorite portal adds from the spring
Our only rule was that we couldn’t pick multiple players headed to the same school
Texas Tech continued to raid the transfer portal of its top assets during the spring portal window
He led the Cardinal last season with eight tackles for loss
The Red Raiders added Georgia Tech’s Romello Height in the offseason
Wide receiver additions Roy Alexander and Micah Hudson could also be instant impact players in 2025.
Wide receiver Emmett Mosley V and kicker Mason Shipley could easily be ranked amongst the top portal additions of the spring window
We’ll pick Endries because of Steve Sarkisian’s reliance on the tight end position
The Horns are without Gunnar Helm and multiple top targets at wide receiver as Arch Manning takes the reins of the offense
A quality tight end is a quarterback’s best friend and Endries caught 56 passes for 623 yards and two touchdowns last season.
Houston was the second-worst scoring offense in the country last year and new offensive coordinator Slade Nagle retooled the entire two-deep through the portal in the winter
He added another big weapon for the offense in Koziol
who caught 94 passes for 839 yards and eight touchdowns last year at Ball State
The Mustangs needed another body at running back and found that in the UCLA transfer
Harden led the Bruins with 506 rushing yards last year
He’ll share time with Derrick McFall and Miami transfer Chris Johnson Jr
Replacing the production of NFL draft pick Brashard Smith is more than a one-man job
Harden will feature heavily into the running back rotation.
Lawton could be a Day 1 starter at cornerback for the Bobcats
Texas State added over a dozen new faces in the spring portal as G.J
Kinne reworks the roster heading into Year 3
Lawton was one of the top JUCO defensive backs available in the portal and had multiple Power Four suitors after a strong season at Tyler Junior College.
North Texas is transitioning from an odd-man front to a more traditional four-man front and that requires bigger
Adding a former four-star recruit with Power Four snaps is a good sign for the Mean Green.
Rice is moving to an option offense that will feature the running back position heavily
and the Owls made a big splash with Johnson
a former four-star recruit that played at Texas A&M and SMU before arriving on South Main
He’s a different type of athlete than most of the Rice roster and could be a breakout candidate in the AAC if he stays healthy and picks up the offense.
Previous school: Tennessee Tech
Improving at the cornerback position was one of the top priorities for a Baylor squad that feels like a Big 12 contender in 2025
and 12 pass breakups over two seasons at Tennessee Tech
TCU was selective in both portal windows as Sonny Dykes bets on a homegrown roster that won six of its final seven games last year
Yaites can come in and provide depth at safety while pushing for starting snaps this year and beyond.
The Roadrunners were a player short at running back when Brandon High followed former UTSA assistant Julian Griffin to Cal
Peterson is a Texas native who was the District 3-4A Division II MVP in 20222 at Hirschi High School
He took a redshirt in 2023 and played in 10 games last year
He started the Las Vegas Bowl against Texas A&M.

Travel is beating retail in the race for wallet share
global travel bookings ran six index points above retail sales
and the gap widened to 17 points in the Americas
proof that discretionary budgets are tilting toward trips and experiences rather than goods
This growing appetite for travel is also driving demand for long-haul trips: Bookings for flights over 2,500 nautical miles jumped 7% in the Americas and 3% in APAC/EMEA year-over-year
signaling pent-up “bucket-list” demand that’s ripe for premium upsells such as extra legroom
travelers are taking a more considered approach to planning
and the data shows just how long and competitive the path to booking has become
travelers took an average of nine days to secure air travel tickets and 12 days to book hotels
while the slowest quartile browsed options for 33-40 days
Consider the data that travelers view 21 hotel options (five times more than flights) before committing
and the message is clear: Always-on nurturing
and early retargeting decide the accommodation race
“Travelers opting for long-haul flights are increasingly seeking experiences that justify the journey
and carefully considering added benefits that enhance the overall travel experience,” said Riccardo Russo
“Marketers who take a full-funnel approach starting with emotionally resonant and personalized creatives
then reinforcing their messages with retargeting offers like flexible packages
and sustaining engagement through retention tactics are seeing the strongest results across the entire booking journey.”
Nearly half of global consumers admit that rising prices are reshaping their 2025 plans
yet two-thirds still maintain or increase travel spending
ranking trips as an essential lifestyle expense
and clear value can win both the bargain hunters and the high spenders who are still eager to roam
Insights from Criteo’s new Spring 2025 Travel Pulse report unpack commerce and consumer data into clear guidance for travel marketers
and media influence that brands will need to master as the summer surge approaches
“The data shows clear shifts not just in when and how people book
but in what inspires them and drives trust
Whether catering to last-minute US travelers
or reaching APAC consumers with value-driven offers
the opportunity lies in adapting fast and personalizing with precision,” said Sarah Rathamone

Negotiations on a plan to use taxpayer dollars for Chase Field repairs are moving ahead
but a parting comment in a recent private meeting has raised questions over what multiple participants perceived as a veiled threat
The approximately two-hour meeting brought progress toward an agreement
though the participants generally declined to discuss the details
Notes taken by one participant and obtained by The Arizona Republic shed light on the discussions
Two other participants confirmed the notes were accurate
The notes said one of the team's representatives "insinuated (threatened)" that the MLB would pull spring training from Arizona if a deal were not reached
The comment about spring training came after participants said the person referenced his connections to MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred and a former MLB commissioner
While the Diamondbacks likely do not have the sway to affect the future of spring training
the comments stuck with multiple participants
said it was "a fiction" to characterize his words as a threat
He said his comments came after a discussion about what would happen if there was no funding agreement
He confirmed he had spoken to the former commissioner
He said he did not speak with current Commissioner Manfred
"The comment was that it’s a terrible look to have such a commitment to the Cactus League
and not have a hometown team here," he told The Republic
The Diamondbacks have reiterated their commitment to staying in Arizona, but that has not assuaged concerns of some lawmakers who fear the state could lose another professional sports franchise
The team said in a statement the Diamondbacks shared the optimism of others after the meeting
and that "the story should be positive with all parties coming together to tighten up language they can agree upon."
"We have been consistent in our intention to not comment on private meetings
however it is important to address mischaracterizations by those sharing details from the meeting," the statement said
"The experts working together on solutions for this public asset fully understand there would never be an association between spring training and our current situation
These reports are inaccurate and have been taken out of context."
The team has asked to divert taxpayer dollars generated at Chase Field toward repairs at the stadium
which is publicly owned by an entity controlled by Maricopa County
the bill called for redirecting sales and income taxes that typically go to the city
Those tax dollars now fund services for the public
Those disagreements led to the May 1 meeting
which Weninger described as "very productive" toward resolution
who criticized the Board of Supervisors for publicly releasing a letter about the talks
Cohn told The Republic he was at the May 1 meeting on behalf of the team and the city
but a spokesperson for Gallego said Cohn was not invited by the city
On the upswing: Despite hurdles, Cactus League posts biggest attendance in 6 years
The meeting notes that were confirmed by the two other people in the room capture the focus of the most recent discussions and do not represent a final agreement
led by Hobbs' Chief of Staff Chad Campbell
appeared to blend elements of the bills' various versions
That includes a provision that shifts player and employee income tax to stadium repairs
on the total tax dollars from all three governments
There would be a penalty if the team left before 25 years
Other items under consideration are a 2% limit on the city sales tax draw
with a $3.95 million annual cap that also would be adjusted for inflation
which had objected to a prior proposal that would impact its broader tax base
Using tax dollars for luxury amenities would be prohibited
The notes estimate $20 million in annual state contributions
Though two meeting participants confirmed that figure
The Diamondbacks opposed equally matching taxpayer dollars with their own to cover the cost of repairs
but that matter was still under discussion
as was a broader change: restructuring the board that oversees the stadium to allow politicians
Hobbs' spokesperson Christian Slater declined to comment on the meeting for this article
Hobbs expressed optimism and said another meeting was planned for this week
"I think we're headed in a positive direction," the governor said
"The priority is to have a bill that protects taxpayers
that addresses most of the concerns of all the parties involved and that continues to create jobs and keeps (the) Diamondbacks in Phoenix," she said
"I think we're on the right path to get there."
Maricopa County Board of Supervisors Chairman Thomas Galvin
said he felt the county's concerns were heard and he left the meeting "very pleased."
"I made clear that myself and the other members of the board
we see ourselves as stewards of taxpayer dollars and we want to be good guardians of taxpayer dollars
and that is our paramount priority," Galvin said
A spokesperson for Gallego declined to comment on the discussions

Spring is in the air, and Meghan Markle is back on our TV
It's time for a spring garden pasta salad à la the Duchess of Sussex
I was a huge fan of her Chantilly Lili dessert, a twist on banana pudding that Meghan named after her daughter, Princess Lilibet
Would the spring garden pasta salad be as big of a success
In the first season of her new show, Meghan demonstrates two different pasta dishes. My colleague Erin McDowell tried her one-pot pasta
a quick and easy dish that only requires a skillet
Meghan notes that frozen peas work well for this dish and don't need to be thawed beforehand
boil them in salted water for about one to two minutes until they turn "bright green and crisp tender," according to the recipe
and drain again before adding them to the skillet
The recipe states that prep time for the spring garden pasta salad will take 20 minutes
but it took me at least half an hour to chop
I should note that I'm not the quickest with a knife and was already pretty tired from a day full of trying Meghan's hosting projects
make sure to budget enough time before dinner for prep
I forgot that it can take quite a bit of time to bring a large pot of water to a boil
so I wasted precious time by not putting it on the stove right away as I did my prep work
The recipe says you should add enough oil to coat the bottom of the pan
Meghan says you should season the shallots and garlic with salt and cook them until they just start to soften
Meghan says you should salt everything again and cook until the veggies are "crisp-tender," which should take two to three minutes
I took my skillet off the heat and threw in the box of rigatoni to my boiling pot of salted water
The recipe recommends saving half a cup of pasta water
I also added a splash of pasta water since my noodles seemed a little dry
I added all the cooked veggies from the skillet to the big bowl
I stirred everything together to coat the rigatoni noodles evenly
I added a bit more olive oil and pasta water
I grated a generous amount of each over the pasta
which I topped with lots of freshly ground black pepper
This is also the step where you can scatter the mint on top — although I must admit I forgot
After nearly 10 hours of trying Meghan's various projects
I was pretty exhausted when I finished making this dish
that tiredness immediately made me not want to like this pasta
But when I arrived at my friend's barbecue
I was surprised by how much everyone loved this dish
The pasta salad was packed with bright flavors from all the veggies
perfectly captured in each bite of the chewy rigatoni
pairing well with our chicken and steak kebabs
I especially loved the pasta when I added some chili crisp on top the following day
added more depth and elevated the overall flavor
Meghan's spring garden pasta salad will be a crowd-pleaser
