The New York Yankees slugger
who knows a thing or two about hot streaks and jaw-dropping power
didn’t hold back when asked about the Yankees captain’s torrid start to the 2025 season
“I played MLB: The Show,” Stanton told YES Network
“And I don't think I could play as good as he’s played now
and it's become almost like everyone just shakes their head
Judge is batting .432, leads the majors in OPS
That’s a stretch that includes four home runs and more multi-hit nights than most players get in a month
He’s not just locked in; he is laser-focused
New York Yankees teammates Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton
He’s dominating in a way that feels like we should be watching him on a scratchy black-and-white film in a lineup with Babe Ruth or Lou Gehrig.
Stanton’s comment might sound like playful praise
but let's consider where it's coming from.
Stanton not only once hit 59 home runs in a season and won the National League MVP
but he was the Yankees’ best hitter in the playoffs last season
He hit seven home runs in the Yankees' run to the World Series
So, when Stanton, who is on the 60-day injured list, is speechless watching a power hitter
you know what you’re watching is special
Judge is the most dangerous hitter in baseball at the moment
And even accomplished hitters are stopping to appreciate it
The Yankees have ridden Judge’s bat to a strong start
on the shelf and Giancarlo Stanton still working his way back
Judge has done more than carry the load; he’s turned every plate appearance into must-watch theater

The New York Yankees lead the Major Leagues in home runs with 57 as well as OPS at .817. The Bronx Bombers are second only to the Chicago Cubs in runs scored per game at 5.5. All of that has added up to a 19-15 record, enough for first place in the American League East by two games over their arch-rivals
But how much better would they be with the career home runs leader among all active players in their lineup
Giancarlo Stanton, whose 429 career round-trippers remains 42 ahead of second-place Mike Trout of the Los Angeles Angels, has yet to play a game for the Yankees in 2025. Last year he belted 27 home runs in 114 games — plus seven in the postseason to raise his playoff total to 18 home runs 41 games
That was in early March. Now, two months and three platelet-rich plasma (PRP) shots later
In an interview with the Yankees cable TV network YES on Sunday
Stanton said that he was “hopefully not out too much longer.”
The injured five-time All-Star took on-field batting practice for the first time all season on April 22
He told YES Network reporter Meredith Marakovits that he does not expect the pain in his elbow to go away completely
but hopes to “get it to a point where it’s manageable
and keep a good mentality and keep it rolling.”
On Tuesday, Stanton told Marakovits, he is scheduled to take another live batting practice session when he will hit off another injured Yankee, pitcher Jake Cousins, who is working his way back from a right flexor strain that has kept him out of action so far in 2025 as well
who won the 2017 National League MVP Award with the Miami Marlins
said that no date for him to start a rehab assignment — the final step before joining the Major League team — has been set yet
That date will be “based on how live ABs are
and rehab will go from there,” Stanton said
Just three days ago, the Yankees moved Stanton to the 60-day injured list. According to a report by The Athletic, the switch means that the earliest Stanton could return would be May 24
The Yankees took Atlanta Braves outfielder Bryan de la Cruz off the waiver wire on Thursday, and assigned him to Triple-A Scranton-Wilkes/Barre. But de la Cruz would bring a degree of added power to the Yankees lineup in Stanton’s absence, with 19 homers in 2023 when he was playing for the Miami Marlins, and 21 last year when he divided his season between Miami and the Pittsburgh Pirates
Stanton told YES that the prolonged injury “has been awful for me
But anything I can do to help the guys out
The Yankees slugger told YES Network’s Meredith Marakovitz on Sunday that he’s scheduled to face reliever Jake Cousins in live batting practice on Tuesday.
This will be Stanton’s first look at real pitching since landing on he injured list with bilateral elbow tendinitis back in January
How he feels after those swings will help determine when
New York Yankees designated hitter Giancarlo Stanton
Stanton said he will have like a "mini spring training" where he runs
stays in his cleats for a whole game and takes multiple at-bats.
He said he will not be "healed" from the tendinitis in both elbows.
"We'll get it to a point where it's manageable
and then go from there," Stanton said
"There will be good days and bad days
keep a good mentality and keep it rolling."
Stanton hasn’t played in a game since last October's World Series, when he was a monster. He was moved to the 60-day IL earlier this week.
But by all accounts, he’s been progressing without setbacks for the last two months. He’s taken swings in the cage and ramped up on-field work. Now comes a big test with game-speed stuff
Cousins is working back from his own elbow issue
so the session will be a useful checkpoint for both players
It’ll also give Stanton a look at a pitcher with big league stuff
not just a coach or minor leaguer throwing to him.
Stanton changes the shape of the Yankees’ lineup
He hit 20 home runs in 114 games last season
not including seven in the postseason.
His return will help balance a lineup that has been very left-handed heavy without him. It will also add length to a lineup that’s leaned heavily on Aaron Judge early
Tuesday’s session isn’t the return to the field Yankees fans are hoping for
but Stanton is going to be facing a big test in his journey back to the big league lineup.

Whether that individual was the suspect was unclear
CLEVELAND -- New York Yankees designated hitter Giancarlo Stanton took batting practice with teammates on Tuesday as he continues to recover from elbow issues
Stanton took swings before the game at Progressive Field as the Yankees prepared for the middle game of their series against the Cleveland Guardians
While Stanton has been working behind the scenes
this was the first time he has taken outdoor batting practice
Following New York's 3-2 loss to Cleveland
manager Aaron Boone would not characterize the importance of Stanton's outdoor session
"I don't know how significant because he's been doing a lot more than that (inside)," Boone said
"But certainly it's good to see him out there on the and in a (BP) group hitting
So I think all of us get a smile seeing that
But I don't know if it's a significant step because he's been doing a lot more than that."
Stanton has been dealing with tendinitis in both elbows
with the ailment known as "tennis elbow" shutting him down since spring training
The 35-year-old has said his elbows also bothered him last season and it's a matter of pain tolerance
The team does not have a timetable for Stanton's return to their lineup
It's likely he'll have to go on a minor league rehab assignment before he's ready to play in major league games
Stanton is in his eighth season with New York
he hit 27 homers and drove in 72 runs in 114 games
As the Yankees advanced to the World Series
Stanton has 429 homers in 15 seasons with the Yankees and Miami Marlins

The New York Yankees added a potentially interesting bat during Thursday’s off day
The team claimed outfielder Bryan de la Cruz off waivers from the Atlanta Braves and optioned him to Triple-A Scranton-Wilkes/Barre
The Yankees also put Giancarlo Stanton (double tennis elbows) on the 60-day injured list to make room for Cruz on the 40-man roster
The earliest Stanton could return is May 24
The Yankees don’t need a starting outfielder immediately
but they might have been looking for a right-handed complement to Jasson Domínguez in left field

de la Cruz has a career .311 on-base percentage and .697 OPS vs
Teams have spent the season trying to exploit the Yankees’ lefty-heavy lineup
Their 228 plate appearances against lefty relievers are the most in the majors
well ahead of the second-place Chicago Cubs at 191
It was unclear if de la Cruz would remain minor-league depth for the Yankees
who have mostly been playing Everson Pereira in left field at Triple A
was expected to have an MRI on Thursday on the right oblique he injured as the Yankees faced the Baltimore Orioles on the road this week
the Yankees could add de la Cruz in his place
The move didn’t mean much for Stanton’s timeline
The Yankees have not yet said when he might begin a rehabilitation assignment
though he’s recently been hitting against a high-velocity pitching machine and performing light running workouts
The Braves had demoted de la Cruz to Triple A when they called up ex-Yankee Alex Verdugo on April 17

Speaking ahead of Sunday’s game against the San Francisco Giants, Boone provided a significant update on his star designated hitter’s recovery from elbow issues
Stanton reported to spring training battling tennis elbow in both arms and has been out since mid-February
Although the Yankees still don’t have an exact timetable for Stanton’s potential return, Boone told reporters that the five-time All-Star is “getting close” to taking legitimate swings. According to the New York Daily News
Stanton is “still mainly hitting off the Trajekt machine.”
Boone said Stanton is with the team in New York this weekend
Boone and the Yankees are no strangers to playing without Stanton
who has regularly spent time on the injured list across his seven Yankees seasons
He’s played over 120 games only once since 2019
and he missed time the last two years with hamstring injuries
A healthy Stanton dominated last year’s postseason
winning ALCS MVP and smashing seven home runs in 14 games
the 35-year-old did so while playing through those same arm injuries
Ben Rice started 12 of the Yankees’ first 14 games at designated hitter
counting Sunday afternoon’s showdown with the Giants
It is unclear if Stanton would serve as the full-time DH upon returning or if he’d platoon with Rice
a lefty who mashed four home runs over the season’s first two weeks
Don’t expect to see Stanton too much in the outfield
and the Yankees don’t seem especially inclined to give him a glove again.

The Yankees have handled themselves fine with Stanton in the lineup
as their 18-13 record effectively demonstrates.
However, the Yankees are an even better team when Stanton is in the lineup, so they naturally want him to return as soon as possible. Unfortunately, Yankees manager Aaron Boone recently told reporters, including MLB.com's Bryan Hoch
that there is still no set time for when Stanton will return to game action.
Now, the Yankees have added to their roster following this Stanton update. The team has announced that they have claimed outfielder Bryan De La Cruz from the Atlanta Braves
the Yankees have announced that Stanton has been moved to the 60-day injured list
Bryan De La Cruz with the Atlanta Braves.
will now provide the Yankees with more experienced outfield depth as they continue their season
The 6-foot-1 outfielder appeared in 16 games with the Braves this season
In 491 career major league games over five seasons split between the Miami Marlins, Pittsburgh Pirates
New York adds an experienced outfielder to their Triple-A depth
The New York Yankees added a rather experienced bat to their organization in Bryan De La Cruz
claiming him from the Braves and sending him to the Triple-A squad
In order to make room for De La Cruz on the 40-man roster
the Yankees placed Giancarlo Stanton on the 60-day IL
It’s actually somewhat surprising that this move hadn’t been done before
considering the outlook on Stanton’s elbows was rather pessimistic
teams are often strategic with their 60-day IL placements since that opens a 40-man roster spot
Even though we’ve heard some positive news like Stanton taking recently taking batting practice
he should still be out for a significant period
The timetable on him has not necessarily changed because he’s likely facing a near-full spring training buildup anyway and wouldn’t have been facing an imminent return
As far as De La Cruz goes, you only need to go back a year to see this guy as an everyday player for the Miami Marlins and Pittsburgh Pirates
This is someone who can hit lefties hard when he’s going right
and that’s been lacking in the Yankees’ lineup outside of Aaron Judge and Paul Goldschmidt
De La Cruz had a .707 OPS in a little over 100 games with Miami last year before fading off significantly in Pittsburgh
Dealing with the early absence of Ronald Acuña Jr.
the Braves signed De La Cruz as a platoon/depth piece for their outfield in 2025
The former Marlin had an opportunity to run away with a larger role given the Jurickson Profar suspension
and he finds himself in a new organization
the man taking advantage of those opportunities in Atlanta is none other than old friend Alex Verdugo
De La Cruz is a nice depth piece to add to your organization
and the Yankees will try to work out some of his issues in the minors
where they didn’t have much outfield depth at Triple-A anyway
If they can possibly De La Cruz on track and in line with what fans saw from him in Miami (.724 OPS in four years as a Marlin from 2021-24)
there could definitely be a spot for his skill set on the MLB roster

STANTON — Each of the team champions at the East Husker Conference track and field meet had their own reason that their title was a little extra special
it was taking advantage of the opportunity to win a conference crown on their home track on Saturday
it was winning the school’s first conference track and field team title — boys or girls
Both championship squads used their depth to collect enough points to wrap up their titles before the final race
allowing them to enjoy their special moments a little early
“It’s the first time in our school’s history that we’ve won a conference title in track
so it’s really cool,” Pender coach Dusty Krusemark said
We knew coming in who we would be battling
and I told them to just take it one event at a time
Krusemark thought the Pendragons had a good chance of claiming a title
which they did by outdistancing defending champion North Bend Central 118-96
“We just had to do our jobs in each of our events and not have any mess-ups
and then we would be pretty comfortable,” he said
“We knew the other teams would get a jump on us with some field events
but we had to stay patient and wait until we got to the events where we would score a lot of points
Things got off to a good start with a win in the 4x800 thanks to Hadley Walsh
Kyla Krusemark and Jala Krusemark gave the Pendragons a 1-2 finish in the 800
Pender added a win in the 4x400 (River Butts
“I feel like our field events held our own
and we scored higher in a few things than we were supposed to,” Dusty Krusemark said
“Then Maya really came out of nowhere this year in the 200
that matched some of the points other teams are scoring big there
MIA HUNKE produced the biggest day of any individual athlete
The West Point-Beemer senior was the lone person to claim three individual EHC titles by successfully repeating in the 400
“I’ve had a very long week with the North Bend meet on Tuesday and the Norfolk Classic on Thursday
so I was just hoping for a good placing today for my team points,” Hunke said
last year’s Class B state champion in the 300 hurdles
I wasn’t expecting a (personal record),” she said
Hunke said this week has helped prepare her for the postseason
especially the two highly competitive hurdles races at the Norfolk Classic
“My times always improve when I have someone pushing me.”
Hunke fit into the theme of successful defending conference champions at this year’s EHC meet
Twelve of the 17 events had the same gold medalist as last year
Clarkson/Leigh’s Maizie Stoklasa repeated her freshman performance of winning the long jump and triple jump
anchoring the winning 4x100 and placing second in the 100
North Bend Central’s Emma Williams again swept the 1,600 and 3,200 while Tekamah-Herman’s Emily Stansberry repeated in the high jump
STANTON’S BOYS pulled away from defending champion West Point-Beemer to win 108.5-90
“We kind of thought we had a chance,” Mustangs boys coach Matthew Peter said
“We didn’t add the points up for everybody
but we thought we could score over 100 and have a chance
we’re going to load you up and this is going to be the one we’re going to try to win.’ We don’t do that a lot
With many of its top performers coming off the Norfolk Classic
“We were just worried about placings and scoring points here and there
We weren’t running our best or throwing our best
Barrett Wilke and Ren Brown finished 1-2 in the shot put and discus to produce 36 points
“I thought a big moment was that we had some milers finish fourth and fifth
Becker Pohlman added a conference title in the 100 for Stanton
Wakefield’s Cael Johnson swept the hurdles races
Oakland-Craig’s Dawson Meyer won the 400 and 800
and North Bend Central’s Brier Cerny claimed the 1,600 and 3,200 golds

Stanton has yet to make his 2025 debut and even missed spring training because of his tendinitis
About a month ago, Yankees manager Aaron Boone gave an update on Stanton saying that he had started swinging a bat again
Stanton even took batting practice with his teammates just a week ago
but it doesn't appear that he'll be ready to return for some time
the earliest he can return to the active roster is May 24
Stanton was also placed on the 60-day IL to make room on the 40-man roster for outfielder Bryan de la Cruz
who the Yankees claimed off waivers from the Atlanta Braves on Thursday
The five-time All-Star has dealt with injuries for most of his MLB career
and especially since joining the Yankees in 2018
He hasn't played more than 139 games in a season since his first year in New York
Stanton slashed .233/.298/.475 with 27 home runs and 72 RBIs
He also hit seven postseason home runs during the Yankees' run to the World Series

Giancarlo Stanton was transferred to the 60-day injured list
This move gives them a roster spot without affecting Stanton’s return timeline
The move would allow him to return at the end of May, which had been the original plan.
Giancarlo Stanton with the New York Yankees
De La Cruz was very quietly designated for assignment by Atlanta. It appears the Braves tried to slip him through waivers to remove him from the 40-man roster
but the Yankees acted quickly and claimed him
was acquired by the Braves in the offseason after spending parts of the last three seasons with the Marlins
He hit 21 home runs last year and drove in 68 runs while batting .233 across 149 games
He brings experience and some right-handed power potential to a Yankees system that is suddenly very left-handed
but the move suggests the Yankees are looking to deepen their options as the season progresses
Stanton’s timeline has been a mystery since he reported to spring training having been shut down from swinging in January. He’s been hitting for a while, showing up at batting practice last week
but there has been no indication he is nearing a rehab assignment yet
This is a low-risk addition with possible upside
De La Cruz has shown flashes of being a capable right-handed big league bat
He could become a useful piece later this summer

Stanton plans to keep using 'Torpedo' bat upon return from ILYankees slugger swung one last year
including during his power-filled postseasonApril 1st
NEW YORK -- Much of the baseball world learned about the existence of “Torpedo” bats this past week. Giancarlo Stanton was ahead of the curve
The Yankees designated hitter swung one frequently last year, including the postseason, when he cracked seven home runs and was named Most Valuable Player of the American League Championship Series against the Guardians
“It’s something that makes a lot of sense, but it’s like, why hasn’t anyone thought of it in 100-plus years?” Stanton said
Though Stanton has suggested that “bat adjustments” made last season could be responsible for the epicondylitis (or tennis elbow) he is experiencing in both arms
Stanton said Tuesday he plans to continue using a Torpedo when he returns from the injured list
Asked if the Torpedo bat referred to the changes Stanton mentioned on March 8 in Tampa, Fla.
he replied: “You’re not going to get the story you’re looking for
But there’s plenty to talk about, with Torpedos being used by five active Yankees (Cody Bellinger, Jazz Chisholm Jr., Paul Goldschmidt, Anthony Volpe, Austin Wells), and several others around the Major Leagues
The innovation bears similarity to a bowling pin and has been largely attributed to Aaron Leanhardt
a former Yankees analyst who was hired as the Marlins’ field coordinator this past winter
After weeks of trial and error against simulated high-velocity pitching last season
he settled on a model that replicated the weight and length of his 2023-era bat
but with the barrel relocated from its traditional position
you try it as long as it’s comfortable in your hands,” Stanton said
so that’s got to feel kind of like a glove or an extension of your arm
So as long as the balance points and all that are good
you’ve got to mess around with it and play with how big or small you want the barrel.”
though Stanton downplayed the effect of the bat design
but it’s not like it was unreal all of a sudden for me,” Stanton said
as Brewers manager Pat Murphy said after Sunday’s game: “It ain’t the wand
Yankees manager Aaron Boone said he has been amused by the continuing discussion of the bats, prompted by a weekend in which his club blasted 15 home runs in a three-game series against Milwaukee
(AL Player of the Week Aaron Judge hit four homers; Judge does not use the Torpedo and said he has no interest in trying one.)
“I’m starting to smile at it a little more
It’s taken on a life of its own,” Boone said
I really just look at it as the evolution of equipment
We went and got fitted for golf clubs 10 years ago; this is essentially that
‘I’ll take the Torpedo bat on the shelf over there
32 [ounces].’ Our guys are way more invested in it than that
We really work with our players in creating this stuff.”
As he works to return from the elbow injuries that cost him all of Spring Training and prompted three rounds of platelet-rich plasma injections
Stanton said he has been hitting off a Trajekt pitching machine “to catch up” and that his grip strength is improving
though he continues to feel pain in his elbows
Sign up to receive our daily Morning Lineup to stay in the know about the latest trending topics around Major League Baseball
who was also playing through discomfort last season and noted improvement following the PRP injections
Stanton said he expects to play in Minor League rehab games before being activated
though no dates have been circled for that yet
I definitely haven’t missed a full spring before
how fast I can feel comfortable in the box against live pitching.”
Congratulations to our very own, Rebekah Stanton, who has been selected as the recipient of the National Association of Geoscience Teachers Outstanding Earth Science Teacher (OEST) Award for the Southeastern section!

essentially sentencing him to a full spring training at the end of whatever rehab he was forced to undergo
The New York Yankees lost DJ LeMahieu after his second spring at-bat of 2025
At the time (sigh), LeMahieu's injury also solved a third base problem for the Yankees in the short term. They publicly continued to commit to him as a starter, but every thinking fan knew that they would much rather roll the dice with a more exciting internal option like Oswaldo Cabrera or Oswald Peraza
they could've even found some external help
failing to maximize the opportunity they'd been given
Fans received a concrete update on LeMahieu over the weekend that could lead to an impending wrench in the Yankees' rhythm
he began live BP sessions in Tampa over the weekend
and will continue that process in the days to come
Given how few reps he received prior to the injury, expect that rehab stint to extend to the maximum
allowing the Yankees a bit more time to dawdle on their decision as well
DJ LeMahieu will head to Tampa for a few days of live BP… if that goes well he will start a rehab assignment thereafter #yankees
If you were hoping for clarity on Giancarlo Stanton
but any Yankee fan knows that the "where are we gonna play both guys?!" problem somehow always works itself out
don't exactly think anyone needs to worry about an impending Stanton return
given that Aaron Boone informed everyone over the weekend that he's continuing to hit on a high-velocity machine
while also "starting to move around more outside."
Got it. That helps. Appreciate the tip. Stanton missed the first Opening Day of his career this March
and is clearly still making incremental progress at best
Carlos Rodón wasn't the only one left "frustrated" by his Sunday start in the rubber match against San Francisco falling apart
but he was the only one among us who could've done anything to prevent that frustration
his start - which began brilliantly - will instead be defined by two different two-strike breaking balls he left up in the zone
flipping a 3-0 Yankees lead to 4-3 in the opposite direction
“I’m frustrated with two-strike pitches that end up in the zone,” Rodón told the gathered media after the game
They’re some of the best hitters in the world
the pressure hasn't been off Rodón whatsoever in the way that fans hoped it would be when the team acquired Max Fried
His ability to hang there moving forward will be defined by his ability to prevent hangers

“I’m frustrated with two-strike pitches that end up in the zone,” Rodón told the gathered media after the game
The New York Yankees made a handful of roster moves Thursday afternoon
adding depth while managing a frustrating injury situation
They claimed right-handed outfielder Brian De La Cruz off waivers from the Atlanta Braves and immediately optioned him to Triple-A Scranton
the Yankees transferred Giancarlo Stanton to the 60-day injured list — but it’s not panic-worthy
Stanton is still eligible to return in May and has been progressing slowly in workouts
This was more of a bookkeeping transaction than a major setback
though the wait continues for one of their biggest bats
Stanton is dealing with tendinitis in both arms
an issue that’s kept him sidelined since spring training
The slugger is coming off a 2024 season where he hit 27 home runs in 114 games and looked sharp in October
His playoff performance was vintage — seven homers in 14 games
helping carry the Yankees offensively through high-leverage matchups
But the regular season has started without him
and although he’s ramping up baseball activities
The Yankees don’t want to rush him back too soon and risk re-aggravation
especially given his recent injury history
Brian De La Cruz was added with little fanfare
but the Yankees clearly see some value in the 28-year-old outfielder
slashing just .191/.240/.213 with a 36% strikeout rate and six percent walk rate
and it led to him being optioned back to Triple-A two weeks ago by the Braves
De La Cruz quietly hit 21 home runs across 149 games split between the Marlins and Pirates
but he brings right-handed pop — something the Yankees can stash for depth or emergencies
The Yankees aren’t bringing De La Cruz in to be a long-term piece
He fits the profile of a short-term call-up if injuries strike again or a bat is needed against left-handed pitching
even if it’s currently tucked away in Scranton/Wilkes-Barre
This was a no-risk move to round out their bench options and keep flexibility open while they await Stanton’s return
the Yankees need Stanton to get healthy — not just for regular season pop
His power is unmatched when he’s locked in
and he gives the lineup length and fear factor few others can replicate
De La Cruz is simply a depth piece — a placeholder in case the injuries linger longer than expected
The real story still revolves around Stanton
and how close he actually is to making his 2025 debut
Yankees’ pitching factory produces another elite arm out of thin air

US representative sounds the alarm at ASU Congressional Dialogue event
Greg Stanton discussed the urgency of resuming negotiations over the Colorado River allotment at the inaugural ASU Congressional Dialogue on Tuesday at the Walton Center for Planetary Health on the Tempe campus
Time is running out to determine the future of the depleted Colorado River
and any further delays in negotiating a deal could be catastrophic
The Arizona Water Innovation Initiative is a statewide project led by the Julie Ann Wrigley Global Futures Laboratory in collaboration with Ira A
tribal and international partners on conservation
who represents Arizona’s 4th District in Congress
participated in the inaugural ASU Congressional Dialogue on Tuesday at the Walton Center for Planetary Health on Arizona State University’s Tempe campus
sponsored by the ASU Office of Government and Community Engagement
was titled “The Fight to Protect the Colorado River and Our Water Future.” There will be additional Congressional Dialogues later in the year
The 1922 Colorado River Compact regulates water distribution among seven states — Arizona
Utah and Wyoming in the Upper Basin.
Climate change has produced a megadrought that has reduced water in the Colorado River
which was already overallocated to the seven states
Decreases in water allotments over the past few years have cut Arizona’s share by about one-fifth
Bureau of Reclamation must decide how to manage the river
including the rights of tribal nations and Mexico
which weren’t part of the original agreement
The Lower and Upper basin regions are at odds over the future of the river
and Stanton blames the Biden administration for not pressuring the two sides to meet as the clock ticks on the expiration
“The result is that the states are probably further apart than they have ever been on what the future of the river should look like,” he said
The Upper Basin states say they shouldn't have to take any cuts because they have never used their full allocation of water
“Rather than sit down and have serious negotiations
and we're in for a do-or-die moment for the future of the river.”
Although Arizona has made huge strides in conserving water
“It’s important for all parties to recognize that we cannot and will not save the Colorado River simply by cutting water use in the Lower Basin alone,” he said
Stanton noted that Congress has approved funding for important infrastructure projects that could conserve water
and he called upon the Trump administration to act
“Congress had the foresight to provide these funds because we knew immediate action was needed to protect the critical levels in Lake Mead,” he said
Securing the water supply is significant not only for Arizona but for national security because of the surge in semiconductor manufacturing underway
“Part of my job in Congress is to educate my fellow Congress members as to why the future of the Colorado River isn’t a Southwest thing or for the Western part of the United States
but critically important to the entire United States,” he said
Stanton participated in a question-and-answer session with Mike Connor
assistant secretary of the Army for civil works in the Biden administration and U.S
deputy secretary of the interior under President Barack Obama
Connor said that newly appointed Secretary of the Interior Doug Burgum needs to become involved in getting the sides together and that the federal government must be willing to invest in the Colorado River Basin
“The reality is that we can’t go back to managing the system of certain (water) releases under certain conditions
We need to facilitate conservation,” he said
“We need to manage these reservoirs in a way that accepts that conservation and continues to make the transition to the more arid environment and climate that exists in the basin.”
Stanton credited ASU for its work in researching the water crisis
director of the ASU Global Institute of Sustainability and Innovation
told the crowd about the Arizona Water Innovation Initiative
The initiative focuses on five areas: technology to create tools for water augmentation
conservation treatment and reuse; data modeling to predict risks and vulnerabilities in hydrologic systems; research
collaboration and dialogue in the Kyl Center for Water Policy; community engagement in finding solutions; and partnering with water-insecure communities to improve access to reliable water
“Our goal is to deliver actionable solutions and immediate impact that strengthen water resilience and economic competitiveness,” White said

TAMPA, Fla. -- Yankees designated hitter Giancarlo Stanton will begin the season on the injured list after receiving platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injections in his elbows this past week
Stanton has been unable to swing a bat since mid-January due to pain in both elbows
attending to a matter that the Yankees said was “private in nature,” and is expected to return to camp at some point in the next week
Yankees captain Aaron Judge said he has spoken to Stanton
whom he described as “definitely frustrated.”
because you can’t replace a guy like him,” Judge said
“Just besides the numbers he’s going to put up
considering Stanton’s injury and his ongoing absence
the 35-year-old veteran no longer has enough time to be ready for the March 27 season opener against the Brewers
and if that costs us a little bit on the front end
“I do feel like we’ll get to a good spot with this
Stanton’s injury raises the question of who will serve as the Yankees’ designated hitter, an issue that grew murkier on Saturday when infielder DJ LeMahieu tweaked his left calf in the Yankees’ 9-3 Grapefruit League victory over the Astros
Stanton was a postseason force for the Bombers last October
which included being named the MVP of the American League Championship Series against the Guardians
Stanton posted a .233/.298/.475 slash line with 20 doubles
He missed approximately a month with a left hamstring strain
Judge could see increased turns in the designated hitter role
as he did when Stanton went on the IL last summer
That could create a defensive alignment in which Trent Grisham plays center field
Cody Bellinger moves to right field and Jasson Domínguez plays left field
because I know we’ve got a lot of good outfield options,” Judge said
“So [maybe] that opens up a chance for Grisham
who’s been swinging the bat well on the back fields
Or maybe move Cody over to right for a little bit; whatever we’ve got to do to help the team win
his production and what he does -- having somebody like that in the middle of the lineup
Boonie always communicates well with me on what his plan is and what he wants to do.”
Boone said the DH decision will ultimately depend on the roster's makeup and individual pitching matchups
He does see a potential benefit in giving Judge half-days
“But I also value Aaron’s defense in the outfield
especially when he’s physically in a really good spot,” Boone said
the Yankees reportedly have had contact with free-agent slugger J.D
who slashed .235/.320/.406 with 16 homers and 69 RBIs in 120 games for the Mets last year
Other DH options in camp include catcher/first baseman Ben Rice
Escarra and first baseman/outfielder Dom Smith
“We’ve got a lot of good options here,” Judge said
“Maybe it will open some spots for some guys to get quality at-bats for us early on in the season.”
who took over in October as the director of the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) and commander of Joint Forces Headquarters-Department of Defense Information Network (JFHQ-DODIN)
told SIGNAL Media in an exclusive interview that his priorities for both organizations include readiness
continuous modernization and establishing lethality in the cyber arena as a means of deterring attacks
He listed readiness as priority number one
and when we think about readiness in a military context
that means that each individual knows her or his responsibilities and is trained effectively in order to execute
but then we combine individuals into organizational constructs that have collective responsibilities
and we also have to validate that collectively we can perform those actions,” he explained
“We have to validate that individuals in collective organizations can execute those tasks
We have to provide the right training mechanisms to ensure that I have confidence that at any given point in time
folks know exactly what they’re supposed to do
That individual and collective readiness will pertain to all job functions
“That applies whether you are designing software
if you are executing defense of routers that sit on the edge of our boundary
or if you’re hunting for the adversary inside our networks
it’s a series of coordinated events toward an objective
We can’t sit back and let the enemy continue to pummel us with attacks and be principally in a reactionary mode
We have to start leaning forward and taking actions proactively to start imposing costs on our enemy,” he said
Campaigning also requires communicating and working closely with the various combatant commands
“When we fight wars as the United States of America
we fight them through our combatant commands
we have to understand what our combatant command priorities are.”
With those combatant commander priorities in mind
Stanton’s team can better study the threat and determine whether cyber enemies have the intent
tools and capability to impede a combatant commander’s ability to execute the mission
“You have to go through that mission analysis if you’re going to be proactive and deter our adversaries from attempting to achieve effects
you can gain and maintain contact with the enemy and force the enemy to think hard about whether they want to attack the targets that are important to you
The general stressed the need to impose costs on cyber adversaries
DISA is responsible for building a defensible network
and JFHQ-DODIN is responsible for defending the network
But that requires a close relationship with those who conduct offense
“We need to impose costs on the adversary to deter the adversary
If and when I establish contact with the enemy
with the forces that conduct offensive cyber operations is critically important.”
Stanton said his primary goal is “to build what the combatant commands need.”
We have to present systems of systems that solve functionally relevant problems in support of the combatant commander
And we have to do it in a timely fashion that meets that requirement
Combatant commanders have to focus on warfighting
We have to be a combat support agency that gives them what they need.”
Continuous modernization also will affect training for readiness
“The rate of change of technology and the rate of change of the enemy is accelerating
And the way we have done business historically just isn’t going to work
We will be in a continuous state of making modifications to our capabilities and
to how we train in order to use them effectively
And that applies to how we build capabilities
That applies to how we execute operations in the cyberspace warfighting domain,” he said

NEW YORK -- Giancarlo Stanton
one of the first known adopters of the torpedo bat
declined Tuesday to say whether he believes using it last season caused the tendon ailments in both elbows that forced him to begin this season on the injured list
Stanton alluded to "bat adjustments" he made last season as a possible reason for the epicondylitis
"You're not going to get the story you're looking for," Stanton said
Stanton said he will continue using the torpedo bat when he returns from injury. The 35-year-old New York Yankees slugger
who has undergone multiple rounds of platelet-rich plasma injections to treat his elbows
shared during spring training that season-ending surgery on both elbows was a possibility
But he has progressed enough to recently begin hitting off a Trajekt -- a pitching robot that simulates any pitcher's windup
he still wouldn't define his return as "close."
He said he will first have to go on a minor league rehab assignment at an unknown date for an unknown period
"I definitely haven't missed a full spring before
how fast I get to feel comfortable in the box versus live pitching."
were among players who used the bats last season after being introduced to the concept by Aaron Leanhardt
an MIT-educated physicist and former minor league hitting coordinator for the organization
Stanton explained he has changed bats before. He said he has usually adjusted the length. Sometimes, he opts for lighter bats at the end of the long season. In the past, when knuckleballers were more common in the majors, he'd opt for heavier lumber.
Last year, he said he simply chose his usual bat but with a different barrel after experimenting with a few models.
"I mean, it makes a lot of sense," Stanton said. "But it's, like, why hasn't anyone thought of it in 100-plus years? So, it's explained simply and then you try it and as long as it's comfortable in your hands [it works]. We're creatures of habit, so the bat's got to feel kind of like a glove or an extension of your arm."
Stanton went on to lead the majors with an average bat velocity of 81.2 mph -- nearly 3 mph ahead of the competition. He had a rebound, but not spectacular, regular season in which he batted .233 with 27 home runs and a .773 OPS before clubbing seven home runs in 14 playoff games.
"It's not like [it was] unreal all of a sudden for me," Stanton said.
Yankees manager Aaron Boone described the torpedo bats "as the evolution of equipment" comparable to getting fitted for new golf clubs. He said the organization is not pushing players to use them and insisted the science is more complicated than just picking a bat with a different barrel.
"There's a lot more to it than, 'I'll take the torpedo bat on the shelf over there -- 34 [inches], 32 [ounces],'" Boone said. "Our guys are way more invested in it than that. And really personalized, really work with our players in creating this stuff. But it's equipment evolving."
As players around the majors order torpedo bats in droves after the Yankees' barrage over the weekend -- they clubbed a record-tying 13 homers in two games against the Brewers -- Boone alluded to the notion that, though everyone is aware of the concept, not every organization can optimize its usage.
"You're trying to just, where you can on the margins, move the needle a little bit," Boone said. "And that's really all you're going to do. I don't think this is some revelation to where we're going to be; it's not related to the weekend that we had, for example. Like, I don't think it's that. Maybe in some cases, for some players, it may help them incrementally. That's how I view it."

surgery viewed as 'last resort'New York adapting after gaining more info on injuries with Gil
TAMPA, Fla. -- Giancarlo Stanton received a second round of platelet-rich plasma injections in his ailing elbows on Thursday and is expected to re-join Yankees camp this weekend
according to general manager Brian Cashman
though it is unknown when the designated hitter will be ready to resume baseball activities
Stanton has been away from the team since Feb. 24, when he traveled to New York; the Yankees later said Stanton was attending to a matter “private in nature” and unrelated to his elbows. Stanton has been unable to swing a bat since mid-January due to the elbow issue
which Stanton has said bothered him for most of the 2024 season
“The complaints didn’t come up until right before camp,” Cashman said
he was dealing with it at the end of last year and obviously thought we were in a good place
I think he was feeling like we were in a good place
but then it reared its ugly head about three weeks before camp
We clearly look forward to getting him back at some point
Stanton, 35, posted a .233/.298/.475 slash line in 114 games last season, tallying 27 home runs, 20 doubles and 72 RBIs. He was a force in the postseason, belting seven homers with 16 RBIs, earning MVP honors in the American League Championship Series against the Guardians
The slugger has said he expects to play through some level of discomfort this season when he returns
which could have a three-month recovery period
but I know it’s not recommended in the front end of this thing,” Cashman said
“If you have a number of different failed attempts
then obviously you start looking at different ways of intervention.”
captain Aaron Judge is likely to see increased time in the DH role; the Yanks’ Grapefruit League lineup on Thursday against the Twins could be a preview of the Opening Day order
“We’ll see; we’ve got a few weeks until we get there,” manager Aaron Boone said
that we’ll be able to weather that storm.”
Giddy upGerrit Cole said he doesn’t sweat results in Spring Training
and the right-hander seemed unaffected by a rocky outing Thursday in which he allowed six runs to the Twins over 2 2/3 innings
including homers to Matt Wallner and Brooks Lee
“Not great command; I kept trying to work the fastball over and over again
I had really bad command on the arm side and couldn’t really get it on the corner well enough
I had a little extra horsepower today and a little extra movement today.”
Boone noted Cole was hurt by “a couple of wonky plays out there behind him.” Cole set Minnesota down on nine pitches in the first inning but labored in the second
a frame extended when shortstop Anthony Volpe threw wildly to first base attempting to turn a double play
Cole was lifted with two outs in the second inning but re-entered in the third
finishing his afternoon with 54 pitches (34 for strikes)
“They squared some balls and he was in the center of the plate
it’s another really good step in the process of it.”
Possible preview?Thursday marked exactly three weeks until Opening Day
and Boone offered a potential glimpse of a lineup he might use against the Brewers on March 27
including catcher Austin Wells in the leadoff spot
Boone said he’s also toying with infielder Jazz Chisholm Jr
which would seem to be a more traditional choice
“I’m still really open to things,” Boone said
“I just think Wells is going to be a really good offensive player
The Yankees have played more than 18,000 regular season games in their history
and they have never had a catcher start a game batting first
It happened five times in the Majors last season (three by the Brewers’ William Contreras)
Diagnosis confirmedLuis Gil traveled to New York for additional testing this week, which Cashman said confirmed the initial diagnosis of a high-grade right lat strain
The reigning AL Rookie of the Year is scheduled to receive a PRP injection on Thursday and will not throw for at least six weeks
Cashman said the Yankees are planning on an absence of at least three months
we’ll get him back sometime in the summer,” Cashman said
Gil’s injury opened a spot in the rotation for veteran Marcus Stroman
Other depth starting pitching options in camp include Will Warren
and hopefully we have what we need,” Cashman said
DJ shelvedDJ LeMahieu underwent an MRI on Tuesday that revealed a strain of the infielder’s left calf
The injury takes LeMahieu out of the competition to serve as the Yankees’ Opening Day third baseman
as LeMahieu told reporters he will not resume baseball activities for “a couple weeks.”
Oswaldo Cabrera and Oswald Peraza are the leading candidates at third base; if one does not convincingly grab the job
Cashman said Boone could “multiplayer it” with his choices
