– The Ports (14-13) couldn’t get the season split with the Quakes (19-8) on Sunday afternoon
as Rancho Cucamonga jumped out early and held on for a 9-5 win over Stockton in the series finale
Wei-En Lin was good through the first two innings before running into trouble in the third
A bunt single on the first pitch of the inning was followed by the first walk that Lin has issued though his first 22 professional innings
The very next pitch was driven 367 feet out to right field by Kellon Lindsey for a 3-0 Quakes lead
The next pitch was singled into center before an RBI triple by Eduardo Quintero made it 4-0 Quakes
An error and a sac fly would score two more to cap a six-run third for Rancho
The Ports would load the bases on three different occasions but wouldn’t score on the first two opportunities
They were down 8-1 in the seventh when Gunner Gouldsmith laced a double (4) the other way just inside the first base bag to clear the bases and cut it to an 8-4 deficit
A passed ball scored Gouldsmith and the Ports had made it a game at 8-5 going into the bottom of the eighth
But Felix Castro would allow his second run in relief
and three wild pitches to give Rancho their four-run lead back at 9-5
Stockton got a pair of hits in the ninth with two out
but a high strike-three call on Gouldsmith ended the game
Davis Diaz saw his 17-game on-base streak come to an end
Carlos Franco did extend his hit streak to five games
UP NEXT: The Ports will make the short trip to San Bernardino, Calif. to start up a six-game series with Inland Empire on Tuesday at 6:35 PM. Single game tickets, mini plans, and group outings are all on sale for the 2025 season. For more information, call the Ports front office at 209-644-1900 or email at [email protected]

Stockton Police Department Chief Stanley McFadden took on the streets of north Stockton on Wednesday morning for his first Chief Community Walk in the area of West Lane Plaza
Strategic Community Officers and more joined McFadden for the walk
which has a lot of commercial buildings as well as some residential neighborhoods," McFadden said prior to the walk
"We're just here to meet and greet and have conversations."
McFadden visited more than 50 businesses in the East Hammer Lane and West Lane areas
"I want them to know that we're here for them
We understand that they bring great value to the city of Stockton
It's hard to have a business and we appreciate them taking a chance on Stockton," he said
"We appreciate them bringing jobs and providing services to our Stockton community members
a health care worker who represents north Stockton
"I just want to let them know that if they have any questions or concerns ..
we're here to address whatever issues are happening in this district," Ponce said
we're here for the community and I'm very excited."
McFadden said no chief has walked the area before
but it's still very important," McFadden said
"The businesses are extremely important to us in this neighborhood."
The department also shared resources on the Business Watch Program with the businesses in the area
"A Business Watch establishes communication links among various businesses within a specific geographic area such as a plaza
or city block," the city of Stockton website states
"Each business works with the others to keep the police department informed of any activity that could be considered criminal in nature."
To learn more about the Business Watch Program, visit stocktonca.gov
Bubba's Express Car Wash manager Joseph Saucedo said the biggest issue he has seen is regarding unhoused people in the area
so they want to go through the recyclables
and it's intimidating to women who have children
"It's just a little much during certain times of the year
and we're getting ready to come on to that time of the year."
Saucedo said customers and employees have also been threatened by unhoused people
He said they would like to see more of "a regular police precedence of patrolling."
It's good to put a face with it," Saucedo said
who co-owns Ina's Bakeshop & Restaurant at 1619 E
has also had problems with unhoused people who frequent the area
She said her shop's glass window had been broken about five times last year
"We're glad that they came here to know our problems because the homeless ..
so I'm glad that they will hear our problem about that."
She went on to say that she has also had unhoused people come into her shop and steal food and beverages
Baskin-RobbinsBaskin-Robbins owner Silvia Qureshi has also been affected by the unhoused community in the area
Her ice cream shop is located at 7908 West Lane
Qureshi said the concerns she shared with McFadden during his stop at her shop were surrounding the unhoused individuals who go into her shop and harass her employees
they're easy targets for adults who are more jaded by life," Qureshi said
My dad had to install a contraption that is not corporate
otherwise we would get weekly theft of ice cream."
She shared her concerns regarding security presence in the area
She would also like to see faster response times from police when they are called
She said she has owned the shop since 2018
and while she understands that the police can't be "everywhere at once," she hopes the response time becomes faster
"It's nice to know that they're interested in coming and asking business owners' opinions and concerns
so we know first-hand what's going on," Qureshi said
so it's a lot of interaction with the people of Stockton
It's good to know that he cares and is here to inquire."
The Stockton Police Department currently has a staff of about 380
"We've already hired more than 60 new officers this fiscal year
which is breaking records that we haven't seen since 2016
The chief said that the reason why they are able to solve crimes is due to the community’s tips
The Stockton City Council voted 4-3 on Tuesday to reject a proposed $825,000 homelessness pilot program led by Inner City Action after city staff said the nonprofit had not been properly vetted
was brought forward by Interim City Manager Steve Colangelo
It sought to relocate people living in a large encampment at White Slough to an 80-by-100-foot tent shelter located at 3635 Calaveras Ave.
about 11 miles southeast of the encampment
is the chair of the city's Ad-Hoc Homelessness Committee
She introduced the item at Tuesday's meeting by saying that the council "can no longer sit back and just do nothing."
"This presentation tonight is a result of urgency
A collaborative effort to try something new
measure results and move forward from inaction," Padilla said
I welcome the hard questions and even the disagreement
That's the part of addressing an issue of this complexity."
Colangelo said the proposal was developed under council guidance
with leadership from Padilla and support from members of the homelessness committee
He told the council the proposal "is not a perfect solution
but it's a real plan and a major step forward."
"The concept includes a designated location for intake
behavioral health referrals and housing coordination."
Inner City Action said the temporary shelter would serve as a first phase of transitional housing for a time frame of 30 to 60 days
The pilot program would operate for two months
"The ultimate goal is to get these individuals into independent permanent housing," nonprofit officials said
City staff proposed to transfer $825,000 from the Public Works budget to fund the pilot program
including $297,430 for Inner City Action's contract
Frank Saldana, founder and CEO of Inner City Action
said many of the Stockton-based nonprofit's workers had lived on the streets at one point during their lives
He said his workers focus on building relationships and rapport with unhoused people so they could feel comfortable accepting their services
Inner City Action officials said the nonprofit had serviced 777 unhoused people in Manteca and 1,190 unhoused people in Lodi
157 transitioned into programs and 171 connected to medical services
They also reported providing 51,424 hot showers and 98,814 hot meals
with a total of 45,598 overnight shelter stays
multiple councilmembers and dozens of community members questioned Colangelo's selection of Inner City Action after the nonprofit had pulled out of similar projects in Lodi and Manteca due to financial and operational issues
When Vice Mayor Jason Lee asked why Inner City Action separated from those cities
Saldana said that Manteca leaders had received a $16 million check from the state to build a homeless navigation center
he realized the city's vision did not align with the nonprofit's
"We did the right thing," Saldana said of Inner City Action's exit from Manteca
We did everything we could to make it very successful
the Lodi News Sentinel reported that nonprofit representatives didn't show up to a Lodi City Council meeting to answer questions about another proposal there
One Lodi councilmember called Inner City Action "unprofessional" and several Lodi councilmembers had publicly criticized the nonprofit months prior to the meeting
When pressed about the issue by District 4 Councilmember Mario Enríquez and Lee
Inner City Action officials said the nonprofit did attend a later council meeting
and that their work in Lodi was always intended to be temporary
Enríquez also asked about Inner City Action's Form 990 tax documents, saying he was unable to find them on the nonprofit's website and he believed it was important for organizations to be transparent about their finances
Inner City Action officials said the nonprofit's 990s were up to date until 2023 and their tax preparer had requested an extension for 2024
They also said the nonprofit could provide those tax documents directly to the city after Enríquez asked whether the documents were available to the public
Lee asked Economic Development Director Tina McCarty if the city had reached out to city officials in Lodi and Manteca to ask about their experiences with Inner City Action
"Staff has looked at their budget proposed for this two-month pilot program and we've looked at the actual layout of their proposal and asked for some additional information," McCarty said
"As far as vetting from a financial standpoint or regulation
Lee told Colangelo that putting a bandage on a "gunshot wound" wasn't going to solve the city's homelessness problem and made it clear that he would not support the proposal
"To pass it tonight without staff who just got up here and put their careers on the line
would be a reckless use of our authority," Lee said
"It would be a reckless use of our taxpayer dollars and it would be an abuse of our power
Colangelo told Mayor Christina Fugazi it was "unfortunate" that the councilmembers did not let him finish his presentation before commenting on the proposal
"To make a comment that it's an inconvenience that I'm going to talk and exercise my authority
This is now an indictment on our ability to govern when you make a statement like that in public."
Colangelo told the council they were not voting on whether to award funding to Inner City Action
agenda documents stated that the council was voting on whether to award $297,430 in funding to Inner City Action
It's unclear why Colangelo made such a statement when agenda documents said otherwise
It's also unclear why he selected a nonprofit that had not been vetted by city staff
Colangelo didn't tell the council or provide a response when asked why Inner City Action was selected
The interim city manager said
"No comment," and exited the council chambers when the author of this article attempted to ask him questions about his proposal after Tuesday's meeting
Community pushes back against plansDuring the public comment portion of the meeting
several residents raised concerns about the lack of a competitive bidding process and Colangelo's rush to push the proposal through
"You can not vote on something that is not prepared," said Zoyla Moreno
knows this organization doesn't have the ducks together."
asked the council where the unhoused people would go at the end of the two-month pilot program
‘We are the people of Stockton’: Police Chief McFadden holds community walk in north Stockton
"What happens after 60 days?" Dunning said
"You're not going to get all of those people transitioned into housing or programs within 60 days
The Rev. Ernest Williams said he appreciated that two councilmembers pushed back against the interim city manager's proposal
"I served on the WorkNet executive board for 25 years," Williams said
"If my executive director would've came into a board meeting and suggested what your city manager suggested tonight
Padilla left the dais in tears after a public commenter indicated that she and another councilmember were talking to each other when residents were addressing the council
I'm really crying," Padilla said before leaving the council chambers
She returned to the dais about five minutes later
Padilla didn't tell the public why she took a brief recess from the dais
The council ultimately rejected the original motion by a 4-3 vote
with District 3 Councilmember Michael Blower
"I have problems with the fact that we didn't put it out to bid," Blower said
adding that he didn't think the tent would be an effective solution to the city's homelessness problem
We don't have unlimited money to just throw out there and try things
I do think it's laudable that we want to try to do something
Enríquez said the city's vetting process was concerning to him and the people in his district
"How did this organization get picked and why this location?" Enríquez said
"We all have issues in our districts that we want to be able to address ..
but I want to make sure we're doing it the right way
To say that we're doing an expensive kicking of the can down the road
will go against what my constituents wanted me to do when I represented them here on this dais."
A second motion introduced by Lee passed by a 4-3 vote
The motion directed city staff to bring the item back to council in the next 30 days after vetting all certifications
insurance and required verifications for the proposed shelter location
The motion also called for no sole provider to be listed as an operator of the shelter and the inclusion of a discussion on possible use of the Request for Proposals bidding process with community partners

Georgia Tech is making sure it’s not left behind
The Yellow Jackets added another major piece to their 2025-26 puzzle on Saturday
landing a commitment from dynamic guard Lamar Washington — and it’s a move that’s already turning heads
Washington’s journey has been one of consistent growth
After dominating at Jefferson High (31.2 points
the former four-star recruit went from Texas Tech to Pacific
refining his game and proving he can thrive in different systems
His development arc is exactly the type of story that new head coach Damon Stoudamire is betting on: high-upside players hungry to prove themselves
Washington becomes Tech’s fourth major offseason addition, joining Peyton Marshall (Missouri), Kam Craft (Miami-Ohio), and German standout Davin Remagen. Combined with a strong freshman class and international depth, this roster is shaping up to be one of the most balanced Georgia Tech has seen in years. With the ACC getting more competitive
the Yellow Jackets are signaling they’re not just rebuilding — they’re reloading
Georgia Tech fans have a real reason to believe that the program is on the rise — and ready to sting
– The Ports were held to two hits on Saturday night
as they were blanked by the Quakes 5-0 to give Rancho Cucamonga the series win for the first six-game series loss for the Ports this season
Both hits for Stockton (14-12) came via singles into center by Carlos Franco
who was making his first start at first base as a member of the Ports
It was just the second time this season the Ports had been shutout
the other coming in Stockton’s lone loss in Visalia this year in a 1-0 defeat
labor-intensive first inning before settling in
He allowed two runs in a 34-pitch first frame on a walk and two hits
He got around a two-out bloop single in the second when Cesar Franco made a diving grab on another shallow fly ball to end the inning
Then the former Texas A&M Aggie had back-to-back
three-up-three-down innings in the third and fourth
But a double followed by one-out triple from Mike Sirota would make it 3-0 Quakes and chase Dettmer before Aidan Layton wrapped up the fifth
Ryan Magdic struck out the side in the sixth
but the Quakes plated an unearned run in the seventh to go up 4-0 and scored on a wild pitch in the eighth for their 5-0 lead
Davis Diaz extended his on-base streak to 17 games the hard way when he was hit by a pitch in the seventh inning
It’s just the second series loss for Stockton when factoring in dropping two of three in Fresno to start the 2025 campaign
0.00) will start for the Quakes and Ports will roll out LHP Wei-En Lin (1-0
Single game tickets, mini plans, and group outings are all on sale for the 2025 season. For more information, call the Ports front office at 209-644-1900 or email at [email protected]
The 6'4 point guard was the No. 21 ranked transfer in the country according to EvanMiya.com
Washington will help fill the shoes of Nait George, an All-ACC point guard who Gonzaga pursued in the transfer portal in April before he committed to Syracuse
The rising senior was named to the All-WCC Second Team last year after averaging 13.5 points
and 1.7 steals per game for the Pacific Tigers
He was second in the conference in steals and fourth in assists behind Ryan Nembhard, Moe Odum
and WCC Player of the Year Augustus Marciulionis.
Washington spent two years at Texas Tech where he averaged 2.8 points and 1.3 assists in 12.2 minutes before following coach Dave Smart
who was an assistant in Lubbock before taking the head coaching job at Pacific
Originally from Portland and starring at Jefferson High School
Washington also played at Compass Prep in Arizona
the same high school as current Zag freshman Davis Fogle
Now Washington becomes one of four high profile WCC stars to transfer to the ACC, joining Oregon State guards Nate Kingz (Syracuse) and Damarco Minor (Pitt), as well as Washington State guard Nate Calmese
who is replacing Hunter Sallis at Wake Forest
Gonzaga's sleepy offseason was awakened on Friday with the team landing commitments from Arizona State guard Adam Miller and 2025 center Parker Jefferson
filling a major hole at shooting guard and adding key depth and a developmental piece to the frontcourt.
Georgia Tech made its fourth transfer portal addition this evening
committed to the Yellow Jackets tonight and Washington is coming off of the best season in his career
Washington averaged a career best 13.5 PPG
and 5.1 RPG on 40% shooting from the field and 30% from three
He played in 62 games with the Red Raiders
NEWS: Lamar Washington will transfer to Georgia Tech, he tells @TheAthleticCBB He made the All-WCC with averages of 13.5 points, 5.1 rebounds and 5.8 assists per game pic.twitter.com/y4iufQt7JW
Washington showed growth as both a passer and scorer last season and he will be competing for one of the starting guard spots next season
Georgia Tech is looking for players to help fill in the gaps left by Nait George and Duncan Powell
Georgia Tech got a commitment from Davi Remagen
and 3.0 assists in the NextGen EuroLeague ULM Qualifier
He played so well that he earned all-tourney honors
In the German Pro Basketball League
He shot 49% from the field and 31.3% from three-point range
Remagen has good size at 6’3 and plays with good pace and rhythm
which is advantageous for the Yellow Jackets
He can score on the ball screen and runs the pick-and-roll beautifully
He can also be a spot-up shooter and doesn’t hesitate to pull up from long range
He can also put the ball on the floor and create his own offense off the bounce and has a really good mid-range game
Remagen is also good at pushing the ball in transition and finishing around the rim
An area where he is very underrated is on the defensive end
He is a really good perimeter defender who plays the passing lanes well
You see several highlights of him cutting off driving lines and poking the ball free leading to easy opportunities at the rim or dishing it out to others
His defensive ability will be a welcome sight on the perimeter to go along with Jaeden Mustaf who established himself as one of the better defenders on the team last year
With Remagen already playing professional basketball
he is going to already have a good feel for the game and will be a player that coach Stoudamire can trust immediately to lead his offense
Georgia Tech has now added four players in the transfer portal
This team is going to look different heading into the 2025-2026 season and

– The Ports (14-11) broke open a pitcher’s duel in the eighth inning en route to a 6-3 win over the Quakes (17-8) on Friday night
Neither side had a hit until the Quakes got a double into right center from Elijah Hainline
but starter Donny Troconis delivered another quality start and allowed just two hits in his six innings of work
extending his scoreless streak to 22 innings to start his Stockton career
All the scoring occurred in the eighth inning for both sides
Cesar Franco walked to start the frame followed by a single for Tommy Takayoshi
An RBI groundout from German Ortiz got Stockton on the board
then Myles Naylor delivered an RBI single to left for a 2-0 lead
Davis Diaz ripped a two-RBI double down the third base line to put Stockton up 4-0
before Cameron Leary crushed a two-run homer (5) 411 feet for a 6-0 advantage
The Quakes answered in the bottom of the eighth with three straight singles to get on the board and chase Brayan Restituyo who would collect the win
Diego Barrera made his first appearance of the season and did allow a two-run triple after Leary dove for and missed a dying line drive in center for a 6-3 score
But Barrera got a line out to left and had a 1-2-3 ninth to close it out
INSIDE THE NUMBERS: Davis extended his on-base streak to 16 games
and Leary tied Naylor for the league lead in home runs with five
The Ports are now 12-4 when they score first and 9-5 when they hit a home run
