Near-perfect weather greeted visitors who turned out for Arabia Mountain Vineyard ‘s opening day on Oct 5
the public was introduced to the 18-acre Stonecrest vineyard that’s being heavily promoted as a go-to venue to weddings
Three sites within the property that can be rented include one with a firepit and another with an elevated two-tier overlook deck
Owned by the Starks family (matriarch Shirley Starks
the property has been in the family for more than 30 years
She said the property was unused until her brother Tim
who has 40-plus years agriculture and landscaping expertise
“It’s been a whirlwind of highs and lows,” said Pickens of getting the business off the ground
Now the vineyard grows five different grape varieties: villard blanc
They planted their first vine in 2020 and have had several harvests in 2023 and 2024
visitors shouldn’t expect to sample wines from those vines while on property as the vineyard has yet to begin its own wine production and sales
the family has plans to secure the necessary licenses
and production processes to one day bottle its own line of wines
Currently they sell their grapes to other wine producers in Georgia
“We wanted to bring to this area something we don’t have,” said Pickens
“You don’t have to go to North Georgia or California
Cheryl Williams of Loganville was a first-time visitor to the vineyard on opening day and said she was impressed
who describes himself as a friend of the family
also attended the opening day but said he’s been on site several times
volunteering to help with the harvest “and anything else that they may need.”
“I think the vision that Tim has is wonderful,” said Moses
Pickens agrees that her brother’s guidance has been crucial to reaching their current status
“He spent countless hours trying to figure out what to do and how to do it,” she said
Pickens said each sibling brings particular skills to the enterprise and each stays in their lane
“We don’t do a lot of crossover,” she said
Zanders is the vineyard’s chief administrative officer
The siblings said they are supported in the business by spouses
Leaving a legacy for the next generation is also one of the vineyard’s goals

BEDFORD – Bedford North Lawrence cruised to an overwhelming victory in the Eastern Greene Invitational during girls high school golf action on Saturday afternoon
posted a sizzling score of 310 (on the West and East courses at Stonecrest) while leaving the rest of the seven-team field in their dust
Kinleigh Root was the medalist with a 1-over 72 that included an eagle as BNL threatened to break the school record (300
shot at Country Oaks in 2018) before settling for a runaway triumph
“It was a good day to be a Lady Star,” BNL coach Kori Johnston said
“I am so incredibly proud of this team and could go on and on about each one of them
stayed focused and posted some solid scores
our scorecards were littered with birdies and PRs
and these girls showed that the Lady Stars are definitely a team to watch.”
Root finished the West course with an eagle on the par-5 ninth
and she added four birdies on the East side (holes 2
7 and 9) as she shot her personal-best score
Ellie Horton carded a 79 that featured three birdies (1 and 5 on the West
and Emma Voris carded a career-best 79 with two birdies
“Root is just a solid player all around,” Johnston said
so it set up well for her to hit big drives and easy wedges into these greens
“Emma Voris literally gave everything she had this round
and even got in the pond on one hole to play a recovery shot out of it
I’m super impressed by her improvement so far this season and excited to see what else she can do.”
Sammie Nusbaum capped the BNL scoring with 80 (two birdies)
and Emma Endris had three birdies during her round of 81 for the balanced Stars
which has yet to make its home-course debut at Otis Park this season
will visit Bloomington Country Club to face Bloomington South on Monday

and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony in connection with the death of Kevin Mcleod-Downer
DeKalb County Superior Court Judge Stacey Hydrick

The news release states that before he could use it
Campbell fired 15 shots in their direction while they took cover behind the car
Williams is also seen on surveillance video getting a firearm from his car and exchanging gunfire with the victim’s friend

What: The Napa City Council will decide whether to approve The Grange Campground resort

A luxury glamping resort proposed along Napa’s Silverado Trail has ignited fierce debate
with opponents warning of wildfire dangers and environmental harm
while supporters argue it could bring a much-needed economic boost
the Napa City Council will weigh in on The Grange Campground
a proposed 12 1/2-acre resort featuring up to 100 high-end camping trailers and tents
critics have fought to block the development

alleging the city failed to conduct a sufficient environmental review under the California Environmental Quality Act
She also argued that rezoning the site to allow a commercial venture on residentially zoned land amounts to granting AutoCamp a special privilege
Since the Napa Planning Commission recommended project approval in October
AutoCamp representatives say they have worked to address community concerns
analyzed public feedback and made adjustments to the plan in response to concerns
One of the biggest issues raised was bike and pedestrian safety
the developers modified a planned pedestrian path to function as a separate Class 1 bike trail
They also identified a gap in sidewalk access near Milliken Creek and agreed to extend the sidewalk to improve connectivity
Traffic congestion along Silverado Trail was another key concern
particularly the potential need for a left-turn lane
Although a traffic study found minimal impact
the developers have now limited access to right turns only when entering and exiting the resort
Corea also defended the project’s fire safety measures
saying the resort would actually reduce wildfire risk by clearing overgrown vegetation from the undeveloped site
with guests required to use AutoCamp’s “GoodWood” fuel
and specially designed grills that protect against smoke and sparks
“It’s such a controlled experience that (fire) doesn’t have any ability to leave the campfires themselves,” Corea said
While the project has drawn strong opposition from residents
it has received backing from Napa’s business community
The Napa Chamber of Commerce has recommended the council approve it
winemakers and restaurateurs see the resort as a way to attract visitors and counter the impact of rising hotel prices and declining wine sales
“We’ve sat down with countless business owners
restaurateurs and really understand that they’re feeling the pain,” he said
As the council prepares for Tuesday’s decision
Whether the project moves forward or faces legal challenges could shape the future of similar developments in Napa

and they both are “foodies” with a great interest in healthy living
They then discovered that have yet another thing in common—they are members of the same family
“My mother introduced us after having met her during one of her visits to Syracuse a couple of years ago
adding that the family previously had not been aware of her existence
“I thought I didn’t have any family still living
It was especially exciting to learn that we shared several passions and dreams.”
Coakley and Nye are now co-owners of Garden Life Juice Bar + Market in the Privi area of The Mall at Stonecrest
Coakley is “the business end” of the retail establishment while Chef Zen Nye creates a variety of health-oriented food and beverages
“but I am passionate about health as well—not only my own health but that of community members
we have to introduce them to plant-based foods that also are tasty.”
Nye said she was fortunate to grow up in a household where her mother cooked fresh food
and I worked in several restaurants while I was in college
Even when my job was in the front end of the restaurant
I always found myself in the back talking with the chefs,” she said
noting that she finally decided that what she really wanted to do was open a restaurant
Privi states online that it is “designed to serve as a unique hub for culinary delights
entertainment and carefully curated cultural experiences,” adding that it caters to “families and individuals seeking an all-encompassing destination.”
which specializes in health and wellness businesses
“That’s one reason we chose this location,” said Nye
who also owns a pop-up food eatery that specializes in healthy snacks
Garden Life uses terms that many associate with bars that sell alcohol
“Our shots are wheatgrass shots,” Nye said
“and we have happy hours when we offer drink specials.”
She said the menu at Garden Life “offers nutritious options that energize and satisfy with emphasis on fresh squeezed juices and smoothies made from a variety of fruits and vegetables.” There also are food items available
“Many of our food offerings are plant-based— including my signature walnut tacos—but not all of them
There are a few menu items that include turkey
We want to cater to a wide variety of tastes,” explained Nye
who said she became interested in healthy eating years ago after watching a documentary on food and nutrition
Garden Life for its owners is more than a money-making enterprise
“We are passionate about inspiring people to live their best lives through healthy eating and other lifestyle choices.”
She described the Adventure Club sponsored by Garden Life that holds such activities as hikes on the first Saturday of each month
and connect with like-minded individuals.” The June 1 outing will be an Arabia Mountain Trail walk
Coakley said the Adventure Club isn’t just for the young and physically fit
“We encourage people to move at their own pace
If someone can’t come the whole way with us
It’s important that they take those first steps toward a healthier lifestyle.”
the tiny home phenomenon has taken the nation (and shelter-focused television) by storm
One such project, The Benison ATL, is a new multi-use development that recently began early planning stages and hosted a ceremonial groundbreaking on the massive property of New Birth Missionary Baptist Church
The popular megachurch is located in Stonecrest
about 20 minutes east of downtown Atlanta.
The Benison's first phase will feature the construction of 120 mini homes offered at prices below what's available in more centralized intown places
Williams stresses the distinction between a tiny home and a mini home comes down to size
as tiny homes don’t usually entail more than 400 square feet of interior space
The Benison’s residential offerings will be larger
and comprised of both mini homes and townhouses
which is set to span 35 acres of New Birth’s whopping 270-acre landholding
currently has no official construction timeline
Williams hopes to obtain construction permits this summer in order to begin true construction by the end of fall
the mixed-use development will include 336 units beginning at $150,000
The smallest units will be 650 square feet
with the largest clocking in at just over 1,200 square feet
the goal of the project is to offer an affordable pathway to homeownership for a wide range of demographics
The project would be the first major development effort by New Birth in 20 years
The planned site is located just south of Interstate 20
roughly a five-minute drive from the Mall at Stonecrest
The property also sits directly north of the Arabia Mountain National Heritage Area
which features a 33-mile network of Atlanta’s PATH trail system
The completed property will reportedly include an amphitheater
Williams says residents will have designated parking spots outside of their homes
Dining and retail options will also be located within the 35-acre property
New Birth, considered the largest land-owning Black church in the U.S.
expects The Benison project to ultimately come together across three phases.

Bryant, who leads the New Birth Missionary Baptist Church in Stonecrest, Georgia, told his congregation on Sunday that he was looking for 100,000 "conscientious Christians" to join him on a 40-day fast that would include not shopping at Target
and some 47,000 people had already signed up
"I announced last Sunday that we were calling a fast for 100,000 conscientious Christians to walk in this journey with us away from Target because they have walked away from our community and walked away from our people," Bryant said
"I wanted 100,000. In one week, 47,000 people have registered to be on the fast with us," he added in celebration as he encouraged his parishioners to sign up for the fast at targetfast.org
Bryant also highlighted designer and founder of the lifestyle apparel brand Black Men Smile
who he said decided to pull all his products from Target stores after learning about the fast
according to a release from the company in which Mackey celebrated Target as "a brand that's known for supporting communities."
After Target announced its decision to scale back its diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives, Mackey told WSB-TV 2 that he would no longer do business with Target
"I don't think I want to be in a 'friends with benefits' relationship with Target," Mackey said
I cannot use my money to show and say that I approve of what they're doing."
A week earlier, Bryant called out Target for what he said was the abandoning of the company's commitment to help advance racial equity. This includes a commitment by the company to spend more than $2 billion at black-owned businesses by 2025
Bryant and his growing list of signatories are calling on Target to restore its DEI policies
honor its $2 billion dollar pledge to the black business community
