Both teams sent a good pitcher to the mound to try and make it happen
Stoneham’s right-hander had a decent fastball
a very good changeup and a pretty darn good slow curve
The Raiders sent their early-season ace Lucas Pizzuto to the mound
The senior right hander already had a win and a no-decision
that coming during an excellent outing against Burlington last Friday night where he pitched 6 innings and left with the game tied 4-4
(Watertown lost the game 5-4 in heartbreaking fashion
giving up an unearned run in the top of the 7th
and then getting runners on base in the bottom of the inning but not being able to push them across the plate.)

NEW BEDFORD — GNB Voc-Tech head coach Rob Delaleu remembers challenging Demetrios Baptiste to take on more of a leadership role last season
“There were several times where I had to really get after him because he wasn’t understanding what leadership is,” recalled Delaleu
“I think over the last two or three months
he really got a good understanding of what leadership is
He’s done an amazing job of doing that this year
One of six seniors on a young GNB Voc-Tech boys basketball team
Baptiste set the tone this year as the Bears returned to the state tournament after missing it in 2024
but big in heart in what he brings to the table,” Delaleu said
noting that Baptiste battled one injury after another as a senior
Baptiste had his best game as a Voc-Tech Bear on Tuesday night
21 Voc-Tech lost to 50th-seeded Stoneham 85-82 in the MIAA Div
“Demetrios had an amazing game tonight,” Delaleu said
“To have your career high in this moment is amazing
He’s very passionate and wants to win and he wants to push himself
Vote: Boys Basketball Player of the Week for Feb. 17-23
2025 BOYS BASKETBALL PLAYOFFS: All nine SouthCoast teams qualified; See who they will face
Baptiste scored 22 points in the second half and had a 3-point play in the final 1.1 seconds to pull Voc-Tech within three points.
“Our guys played their hearts out today,” Delaleu said. “I love the stuff they put out — their energy, their passion — all of that stuff showed. It just stinks that you can score 82 points in a high school game and lose.”
The Bears trailed by 12 with 3:41 left, but went on a 17-8 run.
“I feel good that we could play that tight with that type of team,” Delaleu said. “Watching them on film and knowing they were 16-4 this year and the only reason why they’re in the preliminaries is they had to forfeit some games because they had an ineligible player. Knowing that, I’m proud of these guys. We stepped up.”
The Bears (11-12) will graduate Baptiste, Malik Pires, Christian Cordeiro, Aiden Lopes and Xavier Trinidad.
“As a team and as a program, I’m proud of what our guys brought,” Delaleu said. “You talk to the seniors about the journey that they’re in and you start talking to the young guys about what’s to come. We are so young this year so the future is promising, but obviously we’re going to miss our seniors.”
Liam MacPhee 26 (7), Brian Alves 16 (1), Weston Bunnell 21 (2), Peter Boccelli 5, Tony Dean 12, Mason Lord 5 (1).
Demetrios Baptiste 38 (7), Chris Rivera 7 (1), Jordan Correia 8 (2), Dorian Fortes 6 (2), Christian Cordeiro 2, Jackson Duclos 2, Brayden Pires 4, Nazeah Bulgar 13.
