numerous 911 calls and restraining orders leading up to a triple murder

The tragedy shocked a Tamarac neighborhood on Feb
Investigators say Nathan Gingles
her father and a neighbor as his 4-year-old daughter Seraphine watched
Court records document a troubled marriage
detailing allegations of abuse and Mary Gingles’ fear of her husband
She believed he would kill her and their daughter one day
it was revealed Nathan Gingles still possessed his weapons
Broward County Sheriff Gregory Tony noted that weapons were never collected
Tony has launched an internal affairs investigation
His agency released new documents Wednesday showing more than a dozen calls for service from the couple’s home
some for custody issues and another for child abuse
Mary Gingles’ first restraining order was filed last February
Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies seized Nathan Gingles’ weapons
nearly two months before the murders and prior to obtaining her second restraining order
She told deputies she was going through a difficult divorce and that her husband sometimes entered the house when she was not there
which he was not supposed to do during the divorce proceedings
Tony stated there was enough evidence to pursue a probable cause affidavit to arrest him then
eight deputies have been suspended and a captain was demoted
An investigation into why weapons were not collected after the second restraining order is ongoing
Nathan Gingles remained held without bond in the BSO Main Jail
facing three counts of first-degree murder and several other charges

The video shows Mary Gingles frantically searching for help, with her 4-year-old daughter, Seraphine, trailing behind, as she fled from Nathan Gingles on Feb
The deadly chain of events began when investigators said Nathan Gingles shot and killed Mary’s father
Deputies said Nathan Gingles shot Ponzer in the head “while he innocently drank coffee on his back patio” before turning his attention to her
Deputies with the Broward Sheriff’s Office said Ferrin
Surveillance video captured the harrowing moments as Mary Gingles fled from her estranged husband
The footage shows the pair going door to door in search of help before reaching Andrew Ferrin’s home
Deputies said Nathan Gingles shot both Mary Gingles and Ferrin. The warrant stated that investigators found both dead on the floor
The family of Andrew Ferrin spoke to Local 10 News Tuesday just more than a week after deputies said he was trying to help his neighbor escape from Nathan Gingles
“I honestly believe that Andrew was the best part of all of us
He didn’t come from a traditional marriage
“I can’t have my nephew become a footnote in a tragic scenario
Authorities said Seraphine was found physically unharmed
but the case has brought renewed scrutiny to the system that failed to protect her mother
They also said there were dozens of domestic violence calls involving Nathan Gingles
as well as a restraining order and allegations of abuse
The Broward Sheriff’s Office has since announce the suspension of its eighth deputy
over their handling of past incidents involving Nathan Gingles
BSO confirmed to Local 10 News on Wednesday that Deputy Raul Ortiz was also placed on paid administrative leave as part of their internal investigation
Broward Sheriff Gregory Tony said a probe of past calls revealed that Nathan Gingles could have been arrested after a domestic violence call in December
“We had a chance to save their loved one’s life and we failed,” he said last Wednesday
Tony also said “people will lose their job(s)” over their “piss-poor performance” as he announced the initial wave of suspensions
Authorities said said Jemeriah Cooper was been demoted from captain to deputy and Lt
Emmanuel Koutsofios has been named acting district captain for Tamarac
David is calling for legislative changes to prevent another tragedy
“I need there to be changes in the law,” he said
“If Andrew had to be killed in some tragic
“I need to know that if he had to be killed unnecessarily in some tragic strange event and he’s an individual that was just known for helping people and this law can help someone
I would like to honor him (Andrew) with that,” David added
Jail records show Nathan Gingles is facing three counts of first-degree murder
among several other felony charges that include kidnapping
He remains held without bond at the Broward Main Jail

Detectives responded to a call of a domestic disturbance at an apartment complex along the 8900 block of Northwest 78th Street in Tamarac at approximately 6 p.m
deputies said they found a man who had been shot
Tamarac Fire Rescue pronounced the man deceased at the scene
Officers did not provide any immediate information regarding the circumstances that led to the death they were investigating

Friends of Tamarac has facilitated the annual clean-up day for nearly 20 years
With sunlight filtering through birch trees and a bright blue sky overhead
“We’ve probably done it in every kind of weather,” longtime volunteer Fran Mattson said
Fran and Ken Mattson have been volunteering for clean-up day for years
As Becker and Kenny Krebs continued down the road in the black truck after checking in with the Mattsons
Fran took one side of the road and Ken took the other
Most of the trash along the highway consisted of aluminum cans
soggy cardboard and other ambiguous debris
Each with a trash picker in one hand and a garbage bag in the other
and you can see what’s left,” park ranger Kelly Blackledge said
“It’s nice to take the time to spruce (the refuge) up for the wildlife and people.”
Sixteen volunteers in neon orange vests were spread throughout the refuge
from County Highway 143 in the north to County Highway 29 in the south
which curves around the east side of Tamarac Lake
Blackledge said it is common to fill a six-yard dumpster in past years and most likely this year
can harm the environment and the animals that gather in ditches
“Those things attract rodents in the ditch
you attract owls and other wildlife that are often hit by cars,” she said
like throwing an apple core out the window

Within the Broward Sheriff's office, there's more fallout from a triple murder in Tamarac nearly two weeks ago where authorities say warnings about domestic violence were repeatedly ignored
Two more BSO deputies have been disciplined following the shooting deaths that local officials blame on a "systematic failure" by police. The captain for the agency's Tamarac division has been demoted to deputy
making him the eighth to be suspended after the murder of Mary Jingles
was charged with three counts of first-degree murder
violation of a domestic violence injunction and interference with custody. Sheriff Gregory Tony has pushed for harsh discipline in the aftermath
Records show that Mary Gingles reported her husband's threats to her life to BSO several times leading up to her death
Tony said a probe of past calls revealed that Nathan Gingles could have been arrested after a domestic violence call in December

said a group of strangers identified themselves as her family and started taking items
“(They took) a couple of toys,” David said
“I know they were looking for different documentation
they had mentioned that Mary Gingles was in the military.”
“They had approached themselves as being the actual aunt of (Mary Gingles) when they were not,” David said
“So that kind of misrepresentation put a panic into all of us.”
He claims he learned when crews arrived that they were actually relatives of the accused shooter, Nathan Gingles
A BSO incident report later obtained by Local 10 News states that one of the people at the scene identified herself as a cousin of Nathan Gingles
The property’s landlord reportedly permitted them to be on the property
The report states that the two agreed to discontinue cleaning out the property for the night

Deputies said she watched the entire tragedy unfold
David has focused his energy on pushing for real change

“It has obviously a ton of different deficits.”

Broward Sheriff Gregory Tony acknowledged the department’s failures on Wednesday
“I am basically saying we had a chance to save your loved ones’ life and we failed.”
Radio transmissions obtained by Local 10 News reveal the chaos deputies encountered that day
“They’re now advising it’s gonna be a total of nine shots,” one dispatcher said
But Tony said the department’s failures go beyond that day
Gingles had repeatedly violated a restraining order
an injunction required BSO to confiscate his weapons
Enough to take his weapons away and then give them back,” Gulas said
Tony did not mince words about his department’s actions
“This is just a matter of what I’ve seen is just piss-poor performance
complacency and people not doing their due diligence,” he said
authorities said a deputy saw Gingles walking hand-in-hand with his barefoot daughter
“The only hope that we have in this process is that it will change for somebody else’s benefit,” she added

Following a recent request from White Earth Nation to transfer lands of the refuge to Tribal ownership
there was discussion regarding how we could work together more effectively
This memorandum of agreement alleviates the administrative burden of multiple permits for traditional Tribal activities
the agreement focuses on increasing communication and collaboration on resource management
We eliminated the need for White Earth Nation members to get harvest permits from both the Natural Resource Department of White Earth Nation and Tamarac National Wildlife Refuge
The process is now streamlined so members need a single permit issued by White Earth Nation
The agreement also ensures coordination and information-sharing between both organizations
Continuing commitments regarding more frequent face-to-face meetings
annual reports and a future co-stewardship agreement were also made
