The two executive orders were decried by the American Civil Liberties Union, which issued a statement calling the directives "just the latest escalation in the Trump administration’s shakedown of cities and elected officials that refuse to offer up local resources for the administration’s mass deportation and detention agenda." The Task Force Model was reinstated by Trump when he assumed office Jan. 20. engagement and communications manager at the Michigan Immigrant Rights Center criticized Taylor police officials for signing the agreement with ICE "It is alarming that Taylor's police department is choosing to use local tax dollars to subsidize federal efforts to cruelly uproot our immigrant neighbors," Sauvé said in a statement "They are choosing to risk racial profiling all which can be very costly for a small community like Taylor." According to ICE, the agency's Removal Operations has three 287(g) models: Jail Enforcement "The Jail Enforcement Model is designed to identify and process removable aliens — with criminal or pending criminal charges — who are arrested by state or local law enforcement agencies," ICE said on its website "The Task Force Model serves as a force multiplier for law enforcement agencies to enforce limited immigration authority with ICE oversight during their routine police duties .. (and) the Warrant Service Officer program allows ICE to train certify and authorize state and local law enforcement officers to serve and execute administrative warrants on aliens in their agency’s jail." The Jackson County Sheriff's Office signed up for the Warrant Service Officer Model 241 agencies have Task Force Model agreements with 189 in the Warrant Service Officer model Sauvé said the Task Force model "is riddled with problems," referencing the Department of Justice's findings in Maricopa County, Arizona, and a 2016 Brookings Institution study that found that Prince William County had to raise property taxes and take money from its "rainy day” fund to implement its 287(g) program "Maricopa County is still paying for its long-shuttered 287(g) program and Prince William County had to raise property taxes and take money from its 'rainy day' fund to cover the cost," Sauvé said "And none of this has been shown to increase public safety they're spending less time and resources on local policing "Community members lose trust and are less likely to come forward to report crimes which makes everyone less safe," Sauvé said "Local tax dollars would be better spent building trust with residents and enforcing local laws rather than subsidizing the work of federal immigration enforcement." Taylor's agreement with ICE comes amid fierce debate over Trump's immigration policies and the role local agencies and municipalities play in the federal deportation operation Last week, a package of five bills passed in the Michigan House of Representatives that would ban local governments from enforcing "sanctuary" policies that restrict police from cooperating with federal immigration authorities In February, the Wayne County Sheriff's Office changed its policy about cooperating with federal immigration officials removed language forbidding jail employees from holding inmates on ICE detainers unless the federal agency was unable to provide more than a detainer or administrative warrant the new policy continues to prohibit jail staff from releasing inmates to ICE unless the federal agency provides an arrest warrant The new Wayne County policy also clarifies that inmates must finish their sentences for all state or local criminal charges before they're released to ICE It won’t be a “Cruel Summer” if you can spend it in Taylor Swift’s former Cape Cod home Now, it’s on the market again for $14.5 million, according to the listing The home is located “in the heart of Hyannis Port,” according to the listing It’s a waterfront property with 200 feet of private beach It has “panoramic” views across Nantucket Sound The home is also located within eyesight of the Kennedy Compound in Hyannis Port More: Not "over the rainbow," but over the Bourne Bridge: Judy Garland's Cape house is for sale The 5,064 square foot home has eight beds and seven bathrooms maximizing natural light and drawing the outside in,” reads the listing adding that wide windows throughout the house give those inside uninterrupted ocean views “A generational offering in one of the Cape's most storied locations this is coastal living at its absolute finest.” and green lawns in addition to private beach access through the “sun-drenched” sunroom This is up from when Taylor Swift purchased the home for $4.8 million in 2012 said that the home has been expanded and transformed since then May 4, 2025 11:56 AM EDTOver the past several years, Taylor Swift has established herself as one of the most popular individuals on the entire planet and has captivated the world with her high-profile relationship with Kansas City Chiefs superstar Travis Kelce and that music continues to move the needle in a big way and her reach is not just limited to the United States Taylor Swift was the subject of yet another exciting announcement regarding the popularity of her music across the globe Swift's hit song “Cruel Summer” is now officially certified 4x Platinum in the UK by the British Phonographic Industry.  In the United Kingdom, a single hitting Platinum means the artist sold 600,000 units. Taylor Swift at her first Met Gala in 2008 True scholars of Swift-ian lore know that Swift’s last Met Gala, in 2016, was likely where she met her ex-boyfriend Joe Alwyn At the time Swift’s hair was bleached and Alwyn had a buzz cut which aligns with the lyrics to Swift’s Reputation track “Flashback to when you met me / Your buzz cut and my hair bleached.” This hasn’t ever been officially confirmed as their first meeting Swift always seemed to have scheduling conflicts that prevented her from getting to the Met Gala Since Alwyn and Swift were famously private about their relationship it makes sense that they wanted to avoid such a public red-carpet outing as a couple But now Swift is way less hush-hush about her relationship with Kelce than she was with Alwyn, so some fans were hoping they’d make an appearance together at the Met Gala in 2024. Unfortunately, once again Swift had scheduling conflicts. That Monday the superstar was busy preparing for the next leg of her Eras Tour, which is fair enough. “Taylor is simply enjoying some alone time with Travis and being under the radar for a little bit.” Of course, this all may just be wishful thinking! Obviously, we would all love a Taylor Swift Met Gala moment, especially if it gives her boyfriend an opportunity to dress up. So, fingers crossed. Black man from Richmond without a college degree Being able to take the helm of one of the most influential companies in the world at such a young age – 33 at the time – was a no-brainer for me,” Taylor said Despite Taylor’s youth, Kickstarter is only the latest in a string of successful career stops for the entrepreneur Taylor’s penchant for helping others find success is a consistent thread that weaves through his life and it helps explains his well-earned reputation as a dynamic and inspirational leader Taylor will share lessons he has learned during his rapid rise in business at Virginia Commonwealth University’s spring commencement ceremony on May 10 at the Greater Richmond Convention Center Taylor’s casual-but-confident demeanor was on display as was the diverse collection of art that covers the walls behind him in his California home While some in his position might be consumed by profits Taylor said it is meaning that drives his work whether it’s the feeling that art can evoke or the many lives that a company like Kickstarter can benefit “What gets me out of bed is that I can make a positive impact on people,” Taylor said Taylor grew up in Richmond’s Southside an experience that he said has been critical to his success “It has a distinctive feel and culture You had to be able to quickly adjust and maneuver,” he said Taylor admired the hardworking families in his neighborhood who persevered through a variety of challenges was a strong woman devoted to that determined mindset “So much of what I am is from her,” he said “She had a toughness and grit that came from where I came from.” Taylor recognized that his creativity was one of his greatest strengths and that technology represented an area where he could flourish. The Broad Rock public library became a constant in his life when he found himself homeless and living out of his car during the latter part of high school The library provided temporary shelter and access to a computer and he explored the internet and its vast possibilities – determined not to become a victim of his circumstances “With technology I felt like anybody can do it that it’s something for regular guys and girls I loved the democratization of success that technology offered,” Taylor said “It’s both innate and cultivated.” Taylor attended Virginia Tech for a year before dropping out after starting his first company He sold that company two years later and moved to California Taylor soon would establish ET Enterprises that led him to being recognized by “Forbes 30 Under 30” in 2018 for his innovation in the social media marketing space. He also co-founded GrowthHackers.com an online community for growth marketers. In the case of each company that he started Taylor said he identified a problem and then developed a solution that could help people who were facing that problem Taylor helped lead on-demand rental car company Skurt and marketing software company Qualaroo to successful acquisitions served as CMO for the e-commerce company Sticker Mule and oversaw growth strategy for new social products for Microsoft. Immediately prior to joining Kickstarter as CEO an online marketplace for buying and selling fine art Taylor was named one of the world’s most innovative CMOs by Business Insider and one of the world’s most influential CMOs by Forbes. Meanwhile Kickstarter has been named one of Time magazine’s 100 most influential companies he said earning his mother’s approval for his career path outranks any accolades he has received both professionally and personally “Mom thought I was a crazy person for dropping out of college and moving to California to pursue my dream,” he said Taylor’s acute business instincts are equaled by his wide-ranging interest in arts and culture “It’s a huge part of my life,” he said VCU’s “extraordinary” arts program is part of what inspired Taylor to begin to work with his hometown university as is its commitment to the entrepreneurial spirit that is so close to his heart Taylor is currently working with Garret Westlake vice provost for innovation and strategic design, to see firsthand how VCU is giving people with unorthodox backgrounds the chance to explore business opportunities.  “The work they are doing is so inspiring,” Taylor said “I feel like VCU and I have some beautiful synergy.” Taylor has been appointed as an affiliate faculty fellow at VCU for the 2025-26 academic year. As part of a collaboration between the VCU School of Business and the Office of the Provost “Everette will engage in student mentoring guest lecturing and help shape the future of higher education by sharing his insights as one of the world's leading technology executives,” Westlake said.  Taylor “is one of the most authentic and human-centered leaders I have encountered,” Westlake said “I believe his success at Kickstarter is due in part to his empathy and ability to design products and services that truly meet the needs of users.” Taylor said humility and avoiding an inflated view of himself are critical to his approach to leadership And while his public image as a CEO might paint him as an extrovert “Somebody told me the best CEOs are impatient because they value time,” he said Taylor also sees himself as passionate “Not everyone loves that,” he said of his direct nature “I don’t think people are honest and direct in life My word really matters to me – honestly Taylor values the opportunity to speak at VCU’s commencement especially at a university that he believes is involved in innovative work Taylor said, he “sees the humanity in people Taylor said he can promise his speech at commencement will be authentic and he hopes grads “walk away with some good gems.” “I have no idea yet what I will speak We'll have to see whether or not Taylor and Travis decide to make the public appearance together. Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift have taken some time off after the Kansas City Chiefs tight end's 2024 season ended and with the Eras Tour finishing up. But given the fact that they have some time off right now, there's a question about a big event in New York City on Monday night: will we see them make their red carpet debut at the 2025 Met Gala? It's a fair question to ask! Swift went to the gala long ago! At the moment, here's what we know: Kelce was spotted in New York near Swift's apartment filming something last week. So it's possible they're prepping to stay in NYC for the 2025 Met Gala? Obviously, that's all speculation. We'll see if they show up! Thomas Massie oppose bill to penalize some anti-Israel boycottsby JACKSON WALKER | The National News Desk WASHINGTON (TNND) — Two major House Republicans on Sunday announced they would vote against a proposed bill which would penalize those who support some anti-Israel boycotts known as the “IGO Anti-Boycott Act.” That measure would expand “existing anti-boycott law to include certain boycotts imposed by international governmental organizations (IGOs).” Americans could be penalized for participating in boycotts that are sponsored by international groups such as the United Nations or European Union The bill would apply to some anti-Israel boycotts as well as some protests targeting other countries wrote she would not support the bill due to the way it appears to infringe on Americans’ protest rights “It is my job to defend American’s rights to buy or boycott whomever they choose without the government harshly fining them or imprisoning them.” who has pushed back against several new policies under the Trump administration “I’ll be voting No on this bill as well.” Massie later noted via X the bill had been removed from the congressional schedule “Thank you for your vocal opposition on this platform,” he wrote “It was a ridiculous bill that our leadership should have never scheduled for a vote.” Follow Jackson Walker on X at @_jlwalker_ for the latest trending national news Over the years, Taylor Swift has undergone a transformation from country ingenue to red carpet stunner. Sure, she's been caught wearing an outdated trend now and then, but Swift is a master of storytelling through fashion. From Swift's best to worst style eras she nails bold red carpet looks that keep her looking stunning while also capturing the spirit of whatever her most current album is But when it comes to storytelling through fashion New York City's historic Metropolitan Museum celebrates the opening of a new fashion exhibit with a glamorous red carpet event and A-list celebrities appear in fashion's most forward looks styled by prestigious designers to reflect the opening exhibition in stunning looks meant to explore themes ranging from technology to ball gowns Her best looks manage to capture the spirit of the event while also emphasizing Swift's unique beauty and essence Taylor Swift wore Badgley Mischka for the 2008 Met Gala which was themed "Superheroes: Fashion and Fantasy." Celebrities attended in designs that reimagined the traditional superhero closet Swift's glittering gown and soft curls are giving the youthful which blended to a darker shade where it pooled around her feet captured the "fantasy" aspect of the night's theme and reinforced Swift's brand at the time since little about the look gestures toward the iconic garb of a superhero The choice to treat the fashion-forward event like just another red carpet makes this Swift's most boring Met Gala look by far "PUNK: Chaos To Couture," was always going to present a challenge for Taylor Swift That year's exhibition celebrated the edgy "do-it-yourself" culture's impact on haute couture Other celebrities showed up in fishnet textures But Swift's ethereal style essence clashes with the harsh colors and aggressive shapes of punk fashion while this isn't her most flattering Met Gala style Mendel gown is a masterclass in finding a powerful intersection of both a celebrity's personal brand and the event's theme and military epaulette-feeling collar all pay appropriate tribute to the event and whimsical sparkles make this feel authentic to Swift's feminine Taylor Swift and Ralph Lauren are a match made in fashion heaven for the 2010 Met Gala theme: "American Woman: Fashioning a National Identity." Lauren has long been one of America's most elite designers and his elegant refined styles have shaped the classic American aesthetic old fashioned styles with the modern thrill of pop fame So while this white gown that Swift wore may seem simple for a fashion event as elaborate as the Met Gala it nails the theme — bridging vintage American elegance with bright The subtle dress has ruffled detailing and an off-the-shoulder neckline that keeps it feeling timeless In the context of the American history theme Swift's signature red lip is giving Rosie the Riveter When the 2011 Met Gala paid homage to the influential British designer who had tragically passed only the year before His dramatic designs are famous for being provocative and darkly romantic with historical references that feel Gothic or Victorian His work gravitated toward themes of violence and even death — not exactly aligned with Taylor Swift's innocent Mendel gown she wore for the event paid appropriate homage to the edginess of McQueen while staying grounded in Swift's preferred colors and textures The lace accents and layered skirt add drama and intensity and the textured black fabric offers contrast that feels dramatic but not excessively harsh It's a stunning look that blends Swift's style with the event concept beautifully — a total smash hit The 2014 Met Gala celebrated designer Charles James, "specifically his use of sculptural, scientific, and mathematical approaches to construct revolutionary ball gowns," according to the Met If some Met Gala themes are opaque — 2019's "Camp" theme was so conceptual that many attendees found it hard to interpret — this one translated intuitively to the red carpet For "Charles James: Beyond Fashion," guests arrived in their best ballgown silhouettes in homage to the innovative designer we evaluated each Met Gala look by how well it incorporated the event's theme while staying true to Taylor Swift's personal style The best styles flattered Swift and found a balance between concept and style They expressed the theme in a way that felt natural to the singer's own aesthetic Certain looks were ranked lower if they emphasized either Swift's personal brand or the event theme at the expense of the other COVID-19 Resources. His commitment comes days after he spent time with Huskers quarterbacks coach Glenn Thomas and starting quarterback Dylan Raiola during his latest visit "Sitting down with Coach Thomas and getting into the offense seeing how he coaches Dylan and how he can prepare me for the next level -- I really just can't wait," Taylor told ESPN it's kind of hard committing too early because I have to wait so long to get there." Despite his early pledge, Taylor has had a lengthy recruitment -- with him estimating he's visited as many as 70 campuses since attending college camps as a sixth grader. Taylor received his first Division I scholarship offer from Maryland a year later A smooth throwing motion and standout footwork and accuracy later turned Taylor into one of the top quarterback prospects in the 2027 class He told ESPN that the attention he received from the Huskers immediately after he visited the Aggies -- paired with Nebraska's offensive scheme under coach Matt Rhule -- was part of the connection that ultimately helped sway his commitment to the Huskers Coach Thomas and Dylan [Raiola] every day for the next two weeks before I decided this was where I needed to be," he said "Everybody in that building has made it clear that they want me Their offense fits me the best -- very pro-style Any quarterback who wants to go to the NFL can be successful there." I had the chance to spend four days in Raleigh with the Carolina Hurricanes getting the know the lay of land with the team as the playoffs approached The main focus of my trip was a feature on general manager Eric Tulsky and his unique staff but I was also able to spend some time talking to players about what they thought of the organization’s analytical approach to roster building They believe they have a good team and coaching staff and a chance to win it all this year It just isn’t part of their day-to-day experience as players “For the most part there’s a bit of distance,” captain Jordan Staal said of the divide between the players and management’s approach I don’t really know what else to say about that.” The one exception in terms of players opening up about the subject The 33-year-old former Hart Trophy winner had only been with the Canes for a couple of months at that point but he was quick to offer his thoughts on the differences between Corsi and expected goals and how he had admired Carolina’s analytically driven success from afar Few (if any) players I’ve met around the league are as well-versed on the subject which makes Hall an interesting addition for a franchise trying to push the boundaries of statistical innovation in the sport The Hurricanes staff I talked to were all extremely high on what Hall brings to their lineup even at his age and after a tough half-season with the rebuilding Chicago Blackhawks when Hall signed a reasonably lengthy contract extension last week committing through his 36-year-old season on a three-year The contract comes with a full no-movement clause for the first two years and an out in the third year only if he fails to produce 35 points the season prior Hall really wanted to lock in with Carolina — potentially until the end of his career they’ve done things their own way the last few years,” Hall said during our conversation in the Hurricanes dressing room When you look at the history of how the team’s done When he met with the media after signing his extension on Wednesday Hall explained that after 36 games — 31 in the regular season and five more in their first-round win over the Devils — he realized how well he fit with what Tulsky and head coach Rod Brind’Amour are looking for from their forwards Hall felt he would be in an excellent position to contribute to a contending organization after bouncing around six teams in the last six seasons He also noted that this was only his second time making it to the second round “The guys in the room have been incredible at making me feel welcome making me feel like this is a place I want to be I feel very fortunate to be a Hurricane and I can’t wait for what the future holds for us.” Hall may be toward the back half of his career and on the wrong side of 30 but his strengths remain similar to when he was a top offensive star in the league He can still skate and aggressively pressure the puck as his 24-goal pace showed late in the year when playing regularly on a second/third line with Jesperi Kotkaniemi His numbers with the Blackhawks are likely misleading given the team’s offensive struggles given how well he fits their system and style “I think that’s why Carolina wanted to trade for me,” Hall said “They saw that I’m pretty good at playing that way and it’s been a really good fit on and off the ice.” “His speed is really useful in the way we want to apply pressure and get on people and cut down their time,” Tulsky explained “He has the skill and the vision and the feet to get the puck to the inside of the ice and create chances off it The Hurricanes have now made the playoffs in seven consecutive seasons and the second round for five in a row But they haven’t broken through to the Final since the franchise’s lone Stanley Cup win 19 years ago and the pressure is on for a deeper push after years of knocking on the door There are questions about the health of starting netminder Frederik Andersen but Carolina has one of the deeper casts of forwards in the league with threats to score even on the third and fourth lines They also are, unsurprisingly, a dominant team statistically, controlling possession and scoring chance share better than any other NHL team this season Hall has been part of that success in his time with the team In the first round against the New Jersey Devils — the team he won a Hart with seven years ago — Hall was one of Carolina’s top players with a 59 percent possession rating and 55 percent expected goals share the Hurricanes had 23 high-danger chances to just 12 for New Jersey with Hall on the ice Hall clearly finds the idea of joining an analytically driven organization interesting but was quick to credit Brind’Amour and his staff “It’s not like we get presentations on the numbers or anything like that,” Hall said when asked about what an analytically minded player sees when joining a team like Carolina you see a franchise that’s very data-driven the staff’s filled with a lot of really good people “That’s the one thing that I bet you Eric would tell you the stuff that doesn’t show up in the numbers — the people — is ultimately what you’re betting on but there’s a lot more that goes into it.” Hall has looked at hockey analytics for years mainly out of personal curiosity as they don’t tend to be pushed to players very often He doesn’t think it necessarily helps a player on the ice to have knowledge of the data not when how he needs to play within the team structure and system matters more than the shift-to-shift and game-to-game metrics that a GM or coach might be digging into honestly,” Hall said of his knowledge of how the various stats are calculated and used If you focus on the end goal of expected goals for and against every game it’s a tough way to play and it’s a tough way to think about the game “It’s just like if you’re someone who says they’re going to be wealthy; it’s not like ‘OK That’s going to be my make-or-break.’ You’ve got to do some really good things and build your fortune over time Just the process and fitting in with how the team plays there’s such a fluctuation that can happen because the value is different on each event So it’s not like Corsi where each event (i.e they can be such a wide range of things (due to the quality of the chances) Once in a while I look at the (analytics) websites that’s not something that’s valuable in real time during the season.” It’ll be interesting to see how valuable Hall ends up being to the Hurricanes, who are obviously under the microscope in this postseason after the Mikko Rantanen trades Tulsky believes he has assembled enough talent even without one of the best scorers in the league and Hall and fellow newcomer Logan Stankoven are a big part of that Whether or not Carolina can win using a depth-heavy approach up front over high-end weapons will be fascinating to watch as they face the Capitals in Round 2 and star-loaded offensive clubs like Florida or Toronto in Round 3 after so many years playing on weaker teams And he has finally found a long-term home for the first time in a long while (Top photo: David Kirouac / Imagn But how did she become so successful? A new book by Kevin Evers There’s nothing like this: The strategic genius of Taylor Swift explores Swift’s rise to fame and fortune through the lens of business also highlighting many of her unusual characteristics support structures and willingness to win that likely shows why she is where she is Record executive Scott Borchetta said of her when she performed as a teenager at the Blue Bird Café: “I was just blown away by her songs She had no problem hanging with these seasoned songwriters she wasn’t going to let anybody upstage her.” Nashville songwriter Robert Ellis Orrall noted “When she was [13] one out of ten [songs] were amazing and the other ones she rethought her entire musical approach: “Songwriting on this album is exactly the way that I would write if I considered nothing else other than What production is essential to tell those stories?’” Evers writes: “Her drive was evident in the fact that a thirteen-year-old was coming to the studio with fifteen or twenty songs a drive that contributed to her exceptional songwriting ability and rapid advancement when she was awarded Best Video by a Female Artist at the 2009 MTC Video Music Awards Kanye West suddenly took the stage saying that Beyonce should have won Swift explained what that communicated to her at the time: “As a teenager who had only been in country music somebody stood up and sent me a message: ‘You are not respected here You shouldn’t be here on this stage.’ That message was received and it burrowed into my psyche more than anyone knew.” As she spoke to fans at Wembley Stadium in 2024: “Every time someone talks shit it just makes me work even harder and it makes me that much tougher.” As Evers explains about her choice to lean into the Eras tour: “Swift has never been a moderate when it comes to her fans she chose to lean into the mindset that drove her to meet five hundred thousand people when she was sixteen years old.” she still knew she had to continue innovating: “I felt like I was walking along the sidewalk knowing eventually the pavement was going to crumble and I was gonna fall through,” she noted “You can’t keep winning and have people like it saw how Swift understood her customers: “Swift’s strategies and songwriting reflect her nuanced understanding of the job her fans hire her to do: help articulate their feelings and validate who they are—their identity and their sense of self—and Evers explained: “Because Swift wrote her own songs she was likely more emotionally connected to the words she was singing by Tori Garcia Only about 8% of registered voters participated in the 2025 Joint City and School General and Special Elections RELATED | RESULTS: May 3 City and School Elections Out of more than 73,000 registered voters in Taylor County just under 6,000 showed up for the local election this weekend a quiet showing for races that shape the local city and school policies “I don’t think people take local elections as seriously as they do presidential elections," said Sadie Spitzer “I don’t even know what was on the ballots or anything because I didn’t really know anything about it."
