KSL-TV)"It shouldn't be this difficult to get my keys for the mailbox," she said

Utah (KUTV) — One person has been taken into custody after a short vehicle chase led to a Taylorvsille standoff with shots fired
The incident started Wednesday evening when troopers from the Utah Highway Patrol attempted a vehicle stop in South Salt Lake
Cameron Roden said the suspect was seen driving at a “very high rate of speed.”
but the suspect fled southbound on Interstate 15
They followed the suspect to westbound I-215 and terminated the pursuit when the vehicle pulled off at Redwood Road
They were able to track the license plate to a home in Taylorsville and went to that location
They were able to take the suspect into custody
Officials from the Taylorsville Police Department asked people to avoid the area around 6200 South (Tierra Rose Drive) and 2200 West due to police activity
Access to some of the streets in the area was blocked while officers worked at the scene
Utah (KUTV) — Cell phone video shows the moment the suspect was taken into custody after leading Utah Highway Patrol on a high-speed pursuit
the chase began after they received 911 calls reporting multiple shots fired near a school in South Salt Lake
A UHP trooper spotted the suspect vehicle traveling over 100 miles per hour and initiated a pursuit ,but called it off due to dangerous driving conditions
Major Jeff Nigbur said it is the department's policy to terminate pursuits when the risk of stopping a suspect outweighs public safety concerns
“We have a standing policy that we don't chase off the freeway
there are typically higher rates of speed involved
and we have to balance that safety out,” Nigbur said
Troopers identified the owner of the vehicle as Carson Thain Moffett
and tracked his registration to a neighborhood in Taylorsville
The Taylorsville Police Department also responded to assist
Garrett Nunnelley was home when he noticed troopers outside his house
“My brother and I are looking out the window
and then we hear a gunshot—boom,” said Nunnelley
Nunnelley said shortly after seeing the officers
he heard gunshots coming from a nearby home
Officials said multiple shots were fired by the suspect inside the home
A probable cause statement said Moffett drove out of the house before a Taylorsville police officer crashed his patrol car into the suspect’s vehicle to prevent him from escaping
No injuries were reported as a result of the shooting
but a Taylorsville police officer and the suspect suffered injuries from the crash
“This looks like something you see on the internet
not something that I see in my front yard,” he said
and UHP says they will pursue additional federal charges against Moffett because he was not allowed to possess a firearm due to his criminal history
