He’s since matched it once again on April 17 against Lincoln, Rochester and Sacred Heart-Griffin “I want to get into the 15s and now I feel like a 15-0 is right there,” Howard said “I’ve seen it a couple of times and I’ve been really close at it but obviously I want to go higher and higher and not (be) satisfied.”  Howard finished tied for fifth in the state’s Class 2A meet Howard is already tied for the fifth-best mark in 2A this year with nearly a month to go before IHSA sectionals are held from May 21-23 Howard's surgery journeyAfter his final basketball campaign — in which he led the Tornadoes with 13.8 points per game and also averaged 3.4 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game and made 81% of his free throws — he rested throughout the indoor track season He knows that another shoulder surgery is needed to repair a torn labrum It’s a procedure he’s already needed once in the fall of 2023 “I’ve been through adversity with this surgery,” Howard said “I feel like I came out smarter and more appreciative of the time I have now He will continue his track career at Taylor University in Upland, Indiana: a small college and a National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics member “I still need another surgery because I just blew through it last summer,” Howard said “Everything mentally now is different for me I appreciate the sports now more than ever and just appreciate my time.”  too Despite missing nearly three-fourths of his junior basketball season he still finished with 1,050 career points — ninth all-time for the Tornadoes led to a nine-win improvement from his junior year for the Tornadoes boys basketball team He hopes that he helped the program take the first step of more in the future no one plays harder than Taylorville,” Howard said “We got away from it a couple of years ago but Brock’s got all the talent in the world “There wasn’t much I could say to Brock that he really didn’t know already but just leading by example and showing him in practices the level of intensity we need to be at or try having a calm presence for him Allowing him to be Brock Brown was the biggest thing for me.”  Howard described his early success in the pole vault as more getting by on pure athleticism than technical skill (his success) was a lot because I could jump pretty high and run decently fast and I was explosive,” Howard said hitting positions better and just understanding how to jump even when you take away the speed and the athleticism Taylorville pole vault coach Alex Andreatta laughed when he heard that description and said it was absolutely true “Drake as an athlete in general is he’s fast “The pole vault is a very technical sport and you can tell Drake ‘Grip here,’ ‘Step here,’ and ‘Full commit,’ and he’s there “He has just the right amount of fear not to take up a jump that might be dangerous but enough of that fearlessness to commit to the jumps that everything’s there “Drake took that base and we worked on technical skills during all phases of the jump put it together and he just goes higher and higher every year.”  Howard’s confidence soared during his junior season we were at the state meet and my coach looked at me and said you look like you belong now,’” Howard said “It seemed like I was a little bit more mature and I was one of those guys people were looking at that year.”  More: Competitive siblings: Elvidges lead Lincolnwood baseball, softball teams Andreatta was a pole vaulter when he was in high school at Riverton “with no coach and no real good equipment; it was back in the day when the sport really wasn’t that safe.”   The 40-year-old pole vault coach is coaching another senior vaulter this one even closer to his heart: his oldest daughter The pair did Ninja Warrior competitions together before Alyssa got into pole vault Andreatta went with his daughter to a few practices Andreatta searched far and wide for places Alyssa could practice “(He) found out there’s clubs and stuff you can go to and found out old guys can still vault,” Andreatta said “That was kind of how I got started back into it I started jumping again after 18 years not touching a pole.”  More: How gymnastics turned this Chatham Glenwood senior into one of the area’s top softball catchers There’s a brief moment at the top of the jump that’s hard to describe “Every time it (feels like it is in slow-motion),” Howard said “I always wanted to get high enough over the bar where I could celebrate before hitting the mat Now it gets in slow-motion and it’s all muscle-memory at this point I love the feeling; I wouldn’t change it for anything in the world.”  Howard said his only limitations right now is the need to get higher poles Andreatta said he finally found another coach who is willing to rent out the next-size in poles as Howard chases even higher marks I’ve thought about (getting to 16),” Howard said “I don’t think it’s too far off; it’s going to be really tough to get it but now I’m running from a five (steps) and most people are running from a six or a seven (approach) If I can get bigger poles through the schools and we can get the equipment to get me back to a six or seven (step approach) be a little smoother and 16 is not an absurd number for me right now.”  Andreatta also said Howard has a high ceiling it’s hard to put a limit on it (for Howard’s potential),” Andreatta said ‘Here’s is the max I’m trying to get to,’ it’s always ‘Here’s the next bar’ and when they get that possibly a 17-foot vaulter and if he sticks with it Contact Ryan Mahan: 788-1546, ryan.mahan@sj-r.com (WICS) — Three people were arrested in Taylorville on Tuesday after the Taylorville Police Department in coordination with the Christian County Sheriff's Office concluded an ongoing investigation into illegal drug distribution in Christian County of Taylorville are all facing multiple drug charges Law enforcement officials obtained sufficient evidence to secure a search warrant which led to the execution of a targeted operation in the evening hours on Tuesday The Taylorville Police Department called upon the Emergency Response Team (ERT) which developed and executed a tactical plan for the search This investigation was carried out in close collaboration with the Christian County State's Attorney’s Office and several other local agencies provided invaluable support Steven Tucker is facing charges of delivery with Intent to Deliver Methamphetamine and Unlawful Possession of a Weapon by a Felon Possession of methamphetamine with Intent to deliver Chris Tucker is facing charges of manufacturing and Delivery of Cannabis Over 5,000 Grams and possession of Methamphetamine Roxanne Anthony is facing charges of manufacturing and Delivery of Cannabis Over 5,000 Grams Taylorville Music Lessons offers a welcoming environment for students of all ages and skill levels Founded by veteran drum instructor Mike Semerau the studio provides personalized instruction across a variety of instruments Mike Semerau brings over 25 years of teaching experience to the community After operating multiple studios in the Chicago area he established Taylorville Music Lessons in August 2021 to make quality music education accessible locally The studio is known for its unique approach including professionally recorded lessons that students can review at home Whether you're a beginner or looking to refine your skills Taylorville Music Lessons is dedicated to helping you achieve your musical goals in a supportive and engaging setting For more information or to schedule a lesson visit www.taylorvillemusiclessons.com or call (217) 777-7100 More information has been released concerning the arrest of a Taylorville woman for grooming  22-year-old Karla P Collado was arrested for Grooming She was listed as an assistant coach with THS Collado appeared in court on Thursday morning  She will have her hearing tomorrow (Friday) morning at 10 AM in Christian County Court According to a statement from the Taylorville School District Superintendent Brandi Bruley says that the coach was not a teacher of the district and the allegations did not occur on school grounds Collado is accused of sending messages between October and December of 2024 to a minor under the age of 17 and the max sentence is 1-3 years in the department of corrections mandatory supervised release of up to 6 months Collado may also have to register as a sex offender The School District says she is no longer involved with the soccer program.  Taylorville Police say if you believe you might have been a victim in this case The Taylorville CUSD #3 Board of Education met Tuesday evening for their regular monthly meeting Presentations by the Christian County CEO program and updates to the handbooks at the High School and Elementary Schools were also discussed All board members were present for the April meeting Recreation Director with the Taylorville Park District spoke with board members concerning new tennis courts for Taylorville team use in Jayne’s Park Franks wanted Board members to know this was not an effort they were looking towards the Board to fund A $2,000 dollar donation from Furlove has already been made towards the Park Districts goal of $230,000.  (EDIT:  Originally this was listed as $200,000 but Regional Radio News has learned it was just a $2,000.)
