In topping to the Grand Prix and Freestyle at the 2025 Pacific Coast CDI in Temecula on 2 - 4 May 2025 Geñay Vaughn and Gino continued to polish their place as US Team prospects
Their excellent outings here come just a month after finishing 14th in their FEI World Cup Dressage Finals debut in Switzerland
The Pacific Coast CDI at Galway Downs was yet another new leg on the pair’s whirlwind tour
Vaughn and her 13-year-old Dutch Warmblood (by Bretton Woods x Haarlem) scored 74.040% in the Kur on Saturday
“I loved everything about that test,” said Vaughn after Saturday’s ride
“The fact that he can go to new venue after new venue and stay with me is great.” Her freestyle music featured R&B classics from several eras and has been a favorite since she debuted it last year
The judging panel for Saturday’s Grand Prix Freestyle consisted of Hanna-Mari Kiuttu
Friday’s Grand Prix panel included Cunningham
Since entering the Grand Prix ranks in 2023
Based at their Starr Vaughn Equestrian in Northern California
Vaughn is especially excited about the USEF’s inaugural US Open of Dressage
set for this fall at the Desert International Horse Park
“We’re so grateful to have it for our sport and especially to have it on this coast.”
Having missed a few qualifiers while on the World Cup trek
Vaughn is playing catch-up on needed scores
That was a major motivation for coming to Temecula and the young professional was impressed by her first visit
“This is really a beautiful venue and a very well-run event.”
Six-time Olympian Guenter Seidel and Louise Leatherdale’s 13-year old Jack (by Johnson x Dimension) finished the freestyle in second on a 73.510%
a high point especially considering “it was brand new and we’ve never really done a Freestyle together
I was very pleased and it was a good outing,” Seidel said
It followed a less consistent effort in Friday’s 3* Grand Prix
“I just have to get cleaner in the Grand Prix
but he was very consistent in his piaffe and passage work.”
The 13-year-old Rhinelander is a cuddle monster in the barn
“He’ll put his nose on your shoulder or armpit for an hour.” Out in the world
especially when Seidel hand-walked him within sight of Saturday’s soccer games
“He looks at everything and grows 18-hands tall
The ”big” feel of Galway’s Grand Prix Arena and the sounds and sights of youth sports nearby are good experiences that simulate a European show environment
“It can be good because that’s a little bit what you deal with in Europe where there is a more crowded atmosphere.”
Kristina Harrison-Antell and Finley (by Don Jovi x Rubels) were third in the Freestyle on a 72.715%
following a 67.522% that set them second in Friday’s Grand Prix
Harrison-Antell, Seidel and Vaughn are now in good position to be among the 18 contenders eligible to ride for the US Open’s $200,000 in prize money. Harrison-Antell sits second after Temecula
Six qualifiers remain before the qualifying period ends in late October
but just one on the West Coast – in Oregon at the end of May
Competing on a cool Saturday early evening with fog creeping down the surrounding hills
“Jojo” showed his tendency “to get excited,” she explained
“I call it hot flashes!” Sustained relaxation is a work in progress
Anticipation made his 3-tempi changes a little tense in Saturday’s Intermediaire I test
“But what I still appreciated was that he stayed with me
He started calming down a little bit so it didn’t lead to mistakes.”
The Tokyo Olympic Team USA silver medalist was more upset with herself for an off-course step early in the test
while leaving them atop the leaderboard and adding to Friday’s Prix St
Riding Jojo on a long rein back to the barn
Schut-Kery described her partner of one year as a “really sweet horse who tries really hard.” They concluded Sunday with a 73% in the Freestyle
putting them in good stead for a US Festival of Champions invite
San Diego-based Heather Kennedy and the 11-year old Hanoverian Dr
Davidoff (by Dante Weltino x Wolkentanz II) were second in the PSG and Inter I tests
The latter test is a better one for the approximately 18-hand
11-year-old Hanoverian owned and brought along by Kennedy since the horse was six
(Saturday) the trot work was good and it’s getting stronger
and the canter work was not as strong as I needed it to be.”
They’ve had a circuitous path to this level
with their early years together spent in Mississippi before Kennedy returned to San Diego in 2023
is among the influential friends who’ve helped the pair
but the in-the-saddle work has been all hers
“From falling flat on his neck when first teaching him flying changes
it’s really fun to have it be my own horse.”
Nick Wagman and Elizabeth Keadle’s Belvedere NRW finished third both days
College junior Anna Yost and Irieno-S (by Davino VOD x Facet) topped the Young Riders Team and Individual tests with a 63.647% and a 67.382%
The results set them up nicely to once again represent USDF Region VII at the North America Youth Championships this summer
Yost developed the 12-year-old KWPN since he was four
“We’ve grown up and learned everything together,” Yost said after Saturday’s Individual ride
Anna Yost on Irieno-SYost is earning a degree in neurobiology at UC Davis
She keeps Irieno with her coach Kathleen Raine at Adventure Farms in Riverside County’s Murietta
“It’s a challenge to study and compete at this level
Runner-up Emme Chisholm also rides with Kathleen Raine and David Wightman at Adventure Farms
but she keeps and cares for her horse at home in Ramona
the 19-year-old Trakehner Improv (by Incantare x Hailo)
came by way of Lendon Gray’s Dressage4Kids Foundation
“He was super spooky and kind of crazy when we got him
and we were told he would not go above 2nd Level.”
Their 62.735% reflected an upward trend that thrills the pre-nursing student
“Every test he gets better and better and I’m so proud of how far he’s come
I would never be able to compete in the FEI levels.” They earned a 61.324% in Friday’s Team test
Chisholm describes the bond born of at-home
24/7 care as the source of their great relationship
a 14-year-old Hanoverian mare (by Weltruhm x Pygmalion)
earned a 62.413% in the Individual test for third
following Friday’s 60.050% in the Team test
a 15-year-old Dutch Warmblood by United x Gribaldi previously shown by Laura DeCesari
were a very close second in the Team test on their 63.529%
but some spookiness in the Individual test contributed to a 58.088% for a fourth rank on Saturday
Sage Chacon and 20-year old KWPN bred Apfelkorn (by Sandreo x Goodtimes)
had a spooky Saturday in the Individual test for a 58.265%
but Friday’s team test earned a solid 64.545%
he has days like this,” Sage said of what will be a drop score in their NAYC pursuit
In bringing Sage along from the Childrens division
the horse “has taught me how to do all the movements correctly.”

the Temecula Valley organization announced Friday
Olympics
The IOC approved a record number of medal events and expanded competitions within previously announced sports during the 2028 Olympics in L.A.
LA28 spokesperson Jacie Prieto Lopez confirmed Galway Downs will not host Olympic equestrian events, saying in a statement that LA28 “looks forward to sharing more on our updated Olympic venue plan in the near future.”
LA28’s full venue plan has not been publicly announced. Equestrian initially was slated to take place at a temporary facility built in the Sepulveda Basin, but the plan shifted toward Galway Downs, where there was existing infrastructure to host dressage, eventing and jumping.
Talks have broken down between Santa Monica and Los Angeles 2028 Olympic organizers over the city potentially playing host to beach volleyball competitions.

In a throwback to the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics Games, Santa Anita Park in Arcadia, California, has once again been confirmed as the host venue for the 2028 Olympic equestrian competition, the FEI said on Tuesday
“Santa Anita Park will be a spectacular venue for the LA28 Olympic equestrian events,” FEI President Ingmar De Vos said
“The FEI has very fond memories of Santa Anita
which had hosted the equestrian events at the 1984 Olympic Games
The venue is set to offer a breathtaking stage for all the Olympic equestrian competitions and the proximity to LA City will undoubtedly attract many spectators to Santa Anita
We look forward to continuing our cooperation with LA28 to deliver spectacular equestrian events at the 2028 Games in Los Angeles.”
But the decision is not without controversy
As an established location for major Thoroughbred racing events—including the prestigious Breeders’ Cup
which it’s hosted 11 times—historic Santa Anita Park is located just 20 miles northeast of Los Angeles
Proximity is just one reason it’s been reported that the venue has been selected over the previously proposed Galway Downs in Temecula (the latter facility is more than 93 miles from the city)
along with its well established options for spectator seating for more than 75,000 people
At present, Santa Anita Park houses some 2,000 stalls across 61 barns, ample space to accommodate the 200 horses expected to qualify for the 2028 Olympic Games across all disciplines, and the 78 that will qualify for the Para-Olympic Games. It also contains an on-site equine veterinary clinic with services including surgery, endoscopy, radiology, nuclear medicine, and laboratory service, according to its website
along with a cutting-edge MILE-PET scan machine
that’s only one-half of the equation
On the other side of the tug-of-war Galway Downs has long been preparing to host the 2028 Games, even featuring a dedicated page on their website
Local leaders have cited the region’s deep equestrian roots and existing infrastructure as top reasons the venue should be selected to host dressage
Eventing, in particular, is well-suited for Galway Downs, which already includes a 4-mile CCI4*-L course that could easily by updated for 5* Olympic eventing. During the 1984 Olympic Games, the Fairbanks Ranch Country Club in San Diego County
all equestrian events should to be held in a single location for logistical efficiency
the Los Angeles City Council unanimously voted to approve Galway Downs as the equestrian site on the 2028 Olympic Venues Plan
“It must be said that for several years
the state-of-the-art facility at Galway Downs
and the Riverside County community have prepared to host these important events and showcase the very best that all three have to offer
and preparation have already been dedicated to serving as the host site
and Galway Downs is the only equestrian venue in the greater Los Angeles region with the existing infrastructure to accommodate all Equestrian Events
including a full-length cross-country course.”
Galway Downs houses 500+ permanent stalls (again
more than enough to accommodate the Olympic horses)
according to an initial letter drafted by Congressman Issa and others
that the infrastructure created by LA2028 would also benefit the local community long-term
“Equine culture has especially deep roots in the Temecula Valley, and the Southern California community has prepared for years to amplify and sustain the momentum generated by the tourism, viewership and celebration that comes with hosting the Olympic Games,” the letter read.
At press time, Olympic Organizers had not responded to a request for comment.

Photo by Melissa Mahoney/Only In Your StateMy partner accompanied me on this wine-tour adventure, and we were picked up at our hotel in the morning. After the hour-long drive to Temecula, we were dropped off at our first location, Monte De Oro
the space was obviously large at 20,000 square feet
there were tables where you could sip wine and dine
you could go outside onto the patio overlooking grapevines
We checked in and met with winemaker David Albright who gave us an incredibly informative tour
After an overview of some of the wine varieties
Racks of oak barrels could be seen just about everywhere we looked; there's nearly 1,000 barrels
Albright described the wine-making process here at Monte De Oro and the use of French oak barrels
There's also quite a bit of monitoring and chemistry that goes behind each barrel of wine
I was amazed at all of the chemistry and science that goes behind making wine
This winery has very high standards to maintain

Parker's family is no stranger to this industry as they owned Island Cuvée, a sparkling wine sold mainly in Hawaii. In 2013, the family bought a vineyard, and Parker eventually went to Fresno State after being accepted to its viticulture program. After building a tasting room, a barrel room, and outdoor seating areas, this winery was open for business.

CA — Another strip center is planned for South Temecula
commissioners will review the plans to develop a 1.88-acre vacant parcel situated on the southern end of Bedford Court just east of Interstate 15
The plans call for a 3,596-square-foot car wash and a 950-square-foot drive-thru coffee shop
The planned development is approximately 75 feet from a residential community that is currently bordered by the major routes of I-15
nearby neighbors were notified about the project
Noise is often the biggest concern for residents living near car washes
"The car wash will feature queuing for approximately 19 vehicles while the tunnel can accommodate up to five vehicles at once
The applicant has designed the project so that vehicles enter the car wash tunnel from the south and exit to the north near the existing commercial uses
This design ensures that dryer blowers are located as far as possible from the existing residential units located along the project’s southern border."
The dryer blowers will be equipped with mufflers to reduce their noise
The car wash's proposed hours of operation are 7 a.m
The planned coffee shop won't have inside seating
customers will use a walk-up window or drive-thru
and the shop will feature an outdoor patio
The project applicant is Murrieta-based Catalyst Commercial Group
If the Planning Commission OKs the project
it will recommend approval by the City Council
Wednesday's 6 p.m. Temecula Planning Commission takes place at the Civic Center, 41000 Main Street. See the full meeting agenda here
Correction: A previous version of this article stated that Catalyst Commercial Group was based in Arizona

e-bikes would be prohibited on sidewalks and trails
CA — The Board of Supervisors Tuesday tentatively approved an ordinance restricting where electric bicycles can be operated
generally prohibiting them from being driven on pedestrian walkways
along sidewalks or on nature and equestrian trails in unincorporated communities throughout Riverside County
The E-Bike Safety Ordinance was drafted at the request of Supervisor Chuck Washington
who first raised the issue of potential conflicts with e-bikes back in September
"I've personally witnessed instances of unsafe behavior by riders and those around them," Washington said ahead of the 5-0 vote Tuesday
riders have a responsibility to ensure the bikes are used safely and responsibly."
which is slated to be formally approved after a second reading on May 6
replicates similar ordinances passed in municipalities and other counties statewide
It classifies e-bikes as pedal-driven motorized two-wheelers that generally rely on rechargeable lithium-ion batteries for power
which kicks in when riders have reached speeds of at least 20 mph
aiding the bicyclists in gaining and maintaining momentum
along with Supervisors Manuel Perez and Karen Spiegel
all observed that the bikes are becoming more and more popular
"I see them coming up and down Highway 74," Perez said
Washington's initial concern was over the bikes' growing presence on Temecula Valley Wine Country trails
as well as outdoor recreational sites favored by horse enthusiasts
the ordinance would apply to unincorporated areas countywide
signage must be posted on sidewalks and trails notifying entrants of the county prohibition
Some usage would be allowed on sidewalks where there are no designated bicycle paths along roadways
The only requirement would be that e-bikers obey all traffic laws and ensure safe passage to avoid conflicts with pedestrians
Similar restrictions already apply to mopeds and other motor-driven cycles
Violators could be issued citations carrying fines of $100 to $500
depending on the number of infractions that occur in a year's time

CA — A months-long narcotics investigation into two men from Southwest Riverside County led to their arrests over the weekend
The men were identified as Victor Julian Novodoczky
Both were taken into custody Sunday when their vehicle was stopped as they returned from the San Ysidro border crossing
Jail records show the men were flagged at the northbound Interstate 15 Border Patrol checkpoint near Temecula
They were arrested after a vehicle search turned up approximately 39 ounces of fentanyl and just under an ounce of methamphetamine
Also in the vehicle were Wildomar residents Tristan Ogle
The four suspects were booked into county jail on suspicion of multiple felony narcotics charges
and are each being held in lieu of $200,000 bail
The investigation into Novodoczky and Agajanian began in December when deputies with the Lake Elsinore Sheriff’s Station Special Enforcement Team learned that two people were allegedly transporting narcotics from the U.S.-Mexico border into Riverside County
"The subjects were known to routinely walk across the border into Mexico
and return to the United States," according to the sheriff's department
The law enforcement agency eventually identified the suspects as Novodoczky and Agajanian

CA — An apparent move by planners for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles to scratch Galway Downs near Temecula as a prospective venue for equestrian events elicited a sharp response Friday from Rep

(Photo Credit: Europa Village Wineries and Resort)TEMECULA
CA — A group of 15 University of Southern California Marshall School of Business students recently spent a day with a Temecula real estate developer and fellow Trojan who's made a name for himself in Temecula Valley wine country
Professor Marianne Szymanski led the journey and made the introduction with Dan Stephenson
He is also the founder of Europa Village Wineries & Resort in Temecula
She met Stephenson through what she calls the power of hello
"I'm always looking for speakers for my class
Stephenson suggested that they come out to Europa Village and see firsthand what he has built and is continuing to develop at the resort
he discussed his multi-tiered career in the valley
and discussed how Europa Village was conceptualized and built
both from a personal and business perspective
he also gave them a tour of Europa Village and a mini-goal seminar
reviewed Europa’s strategic plan with the group
then asked questions and listened to his responses," Szymanski said
“You never know who you will meet in this town
and the stories about the great things people build here
and our students were thrilled to be in his presence."
Stephenson told Patch he loves sharing his experiences with young and eager minds
'if I knew what I know now when I got started in life
by sharing some of my successes and failures will help in their journey in life
It is especially fun when your people are attending college and eager to learn
and it was obvious they listened to my answers."
His only request of the students was to one day “pay it forward.”

CA — A 19-year-old man was killed and two others were injured in a crash in Temecula Sunday
Sunday on southbound state Route 79 just south of Anza Road
the 19-year-old man was driving a 1998 Toyota 4Runner with two 19-year-old male passengers; one was seated in the right front seat

Interstate 15 is packed with commuters traveling between Southwest Riverside County and San Diego for school or work — a drive that can sometimes take hours
The San Diego Association of Governments (SANDAG) is looking into providing some relief through a Rapid Bus route from Temecula to San Marcos
"The idea is reducing congestion on the freeways and the roads by offering alternatives to solo driving," said SANDAG senior transit planner Brian Lane
"So a Rapid route like this ideally — for those who can use it
and would be able to use it — would help meet those (climate) goals by reducing vehicle miles traveled."
SANDAG is under a state mandate to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by at least 85% below 1990 levels by 2045
The proposed Rapid 483 route is specifically planned for commuters who attend California State University
San Marcos or work in the surrounding area
“Or even riders who may be going the other way up to Temecula or Riverside area to get the jobs up in that area,” Lane said
Riverside Transit Authority used to offer a similar bus route before COVID-19
but it was discontinued when ridership dropped during the pandemic
About a year after the route was discontinued, Lane said, CSU San Marcos and Palomar College approached SANDAG and the North County Transit District asking how to bring the route back to help their students commuting from Temecula
"We had some good talks with them a couple of years ago
and then our regional plan includes a ton of routes like this that we're really trying to help provide a Rapid network throughout the county to provide people with those options," he said
Lane noted that freeways are becoming more congested than they were during the pandemic lockdown and the long return to on-site work
"People are starting to go back to work full-time
(The) federal workforce is being required to come back to work as well
so we're already seeing that congestion even increasing."
who lives in Temecula and works in Rancho Bernardo
His 40-mile one-way commute takes about 40 minutes on a good day
He welcomes the idea of a Rapid Bus route from Riverside County to San Diego
"It's so relaxing to sit down and read a book
not really worry about the people around you versus
'What is the guy in the next lane doing?' ..
He said the challenge with taking the bus getting from the bus stop to his office
It would have been really easy to just take a bike and maybe bike the last couple of miles to my office," Brown said
and transfers are usually not that great."
SANDAG is collecting feedback on the proposed route until April 23
And part of that is looking at last-mile options
Lane said the route is in the early planning stages
2025 at 6:21 am PT.css-79elbk{position:relative;}Welcome to the cutest bookstore in all of Southwest Riverside County
opened to over a thousand curious book-buyers in mid-March
Guests lined up around the building for a chance to step inside
browse the shelves for romance novels from every genre
you’ll find everything from women’s fiction to fantasy
as well as a large young adult section filled with single titles and favored tried-and-true series
Patch discovered there’s much more to In Bloom Bookery than meets the eye
The boutique bookstore resulted from years of planning
While they had a harrowing few days when one location fell through
Mullin told Patch that the store on Main Street is exactly what she hoped for
For the shopkeeper who once worked at a mega-bookstore
Patch visited to learn more about the bookstore
peek at shelves stuffed with colorful titles in every romance category
“The grand opening was incredibly emotional for me
I was worried about people getting dehydrated or sunburned
so we bought and passed out sunscreen and water to those waiting to come in,” she said
“Customers waited and came inside and shopped the shelves
Some of the sections were completely cleaned out.”
Mullin said she was ordering more books as customers were leaving with arms full
some sections — read romantic fantasy a la Rebecca Yarros
she plans to stay ahead of the inventory for her return visitors
local readers are ordering books and returning for more
the thrill of In Bloom Bookstore isn't just in what's shelved here
It's the creative space that Mullin and family have curated in Old Town
Special events and meetups are a cornerstone of her business
a local writer’s group plans to meet there at least once a week
and a Chick Lit book club and “Sugar and Spice” dark romance book club have sprouted here
Twin wingback chairs bookend a faux fireplace on one wall
where you can sit and read a chapter or two
where they have already held one game night
“This whole space is already becoming what I dreamed of
a home base for people who love literature
and share their recommendations with others
but sharing what you’ve read with others can expand your enjoyment even more
Maas’s “A Court of Thorns and Roses” series
she’ll have ideas for your next favorite read
Looking forward to that next Nora Roberts thriller
“If you ask someone who their favorite author is or what their favorite book is
But when you ask someone where their favorite bookstore is
she remains hopeful that In Bloom Bookery will soon be the center of that conversation
she’s dreamed of this space since working the counter at Borders Bookstore
“My time working at Borders is a core memory,” she said
“Customers would come in the morning for coffee
to see what was new on the new bestseller list
to order books or get book recommendations,” she said of that time
she has created that and a lot more: she’s built an approachable bookstore manned by people who genuinely love reading
Her primary focus is on prioritizing customers and listening to their suggestions
“I want people to feel they can come and talk about books
and recommend books and develop that book-lovers’ community
I’ve noticed from my 20 years of working in books: When you ask someone what book they love
it’s rarely the same answer.” For that reason
she keeps all sorts of romance titles on her shelves
running a bookstore involves watching the trends
and helping people find the next great book
and there’s a shared moment when people start talking about a book or an author that strikes an emotional chord
So if you’re tired of sitting alone with your Kindle or Audible
or are looking for that Trophy Book for your shelves
“My customers are the center of my vision for the bookery,” she said
but if no one comes to it and I’m not fulfilling what they want to see
and there are a lot of ‘almost failures.’ When you have that core audience of customers
Patch suggests visiting In Bloom Bookery in Old Town Temecula and making it a must-stop on your best bookstores in California list. You can find them online at www.inbloombookstore.com or on their Instagram page @inbloombookery

CA — After residents brought attention to a busy — and potentially dangerous — intersection near Erle Stanley Gardner Middle School in south Temecula
The intersection of Loma Linda Road and Redwood Road/White Sage Way is getting all-way stop signs
and final approval is expected during the April 8 Temecula City Council meeting
Concerned residents cited pedestrian safety
and excessive speeding and erratic vehicle maneuvers during school dropoff and pickup times
The city conducted field reviews based on the complaints
The posted speed limit on Loma Linda Road is 35 mph
and the average daily traffic volume is approximately 5,200 vehicles
Redwood Road has a posted speed limit of 30 mph and carries approximately 1,350 vehicles daily
City analysis found that vehicles were traveling at speeds varying from 40 to 42 mph on Loma Linda Road near the intersection with Redwood Road/White Sage Way
"The results of the speed data review indicate that these speeds are occurring consistently throughout the day," according to city documents
While no crashes have been reported at the intersection over a three-year period from January 1
factors like motorist speed and unsafe traffic maneuvers warrant the all-way stop signs
Erle Stanley Gardner Middle School is located at 45125 Via Del Coronado
two city parks — Kent Hindergardt Memorial Park and Friendship Park — are located near the Loma Linda Road and Redwood Road/White Sage Way intersection
According to the California Department of Education
Erle Stanley Gardner Middle School serves over 1,000 students

In Temecula, California, former school board president Joseph Komrosky was elected a trustee once again after losing a June recall race following a series of controversies that brought national attention to the school district about an hour northeast of San Diego.
Results from the school board election and other races throughout California were just finalized December 3 because state laws and voting-by-mail procedures require more time to process ballots
officials have up to a month to certify results.
It also backed a plan that would have required school personnel to “out” transgender students to their families
but the election outcome places the newly conservative board in prime position to usher in more divisive proposals.
“We did it! We won!!! Praise the Lord,” Komrosky said in an Instagram post after the election results were certified
“Thank you Temecula for standing behind me again
Thanks to all of you who supported me during this campaign
I will continue to protect the innocence of your children at TVUSD.”
Komrosky did not respond to The 19th’s request for comment about his victory
which came as a blow to organizers locally and nationally who mobilized for the recall campaign against him
After Komrosky and two other conservatives joined the five-member school board in 2022
they proceeded to pass policies that sparked public outrage
with footage of parents ejected from heated Temecula school board meetings going viral on social media and directing national attention to a town of nearly 111,000 that had previously been known for its wineries
The board also faced scrutiny when it fired TVUSD Superintendent Jodi McClay without cause
Helena Unified School District near San Francisco.
The successful recall against Komrosky and the departure of another conservative board member who relocated to Texas caused the Temecula school board to lose its right-wing majority for much of this year
But now that Komrosky has been elected once again
along with two newcomers who have been described as right-leaning and one liberal-leaning incumbent, Komrosky’s detractors predict that the school board will likely resume approving policies that split the community and garner negative attention for the city
a political action committee started with the aim of uniting community members across partisan lines
“Obviously the dangerous part is Komrosky is back on the board,” he said. “We’re disappointed about that, because we … think he’s going to be even more vindictive this time. All he has to do is say a couple of buzzwords that scare people, and we have to thread a whole bunch of needles to convince them that they’re not showing pornography in schools.”
Pack foresees more book banning by the school board, attempts to blur church-state separation and possibly the singling out of teachers who don’t subscribe to the trustees’ views.
president of local teachers union Temecula Valley Educators Association (TVEA)
won’t hazard a guess about the policies the newly elected conservative board members might enact
how important it is for all school board members to prioritize students’ educational needs.
“That’s all we’re really focused on
and we’re hoping to work with any school board member
that would help to move forward those goals and set down a path that would allow our district to continue to be successful in educating the students of the community,” he said.
Diaz said that TVEA is made up of educators of all political persuasions but did not discuss why he thought only one of the three candidates backed by the union
Fellow incumbent Allison Barclay lost her seat to Melina Anderson
endorsed by the Riverside County Republican Party
also endorsed by the Riverside County Republican Party
were endorsed by the Inland Empire Family PAC
but Schwartz defeated the latter contender
The community divisions over the Temecula school board have attracted activists from Grandparents for Truth
a nationwide progressive advocacy organization
Grandparents for Truth works to give students the “freedom to learn” by opposing censorship and championing diversity in the classroom

“As an organization that’s committed to religious liberty
we’re not preaching against the Bible
We’re not preaching against religion at all,” Byrd said
“The problem is that separation of church and state
when it is either mandated or it’s financially incentivized to teach a specific religion as this kind of state-sponsored religion
that’s where it gets really concerning
And I would not be surprised if there seems to be a playbook
if the next thing on Komrosky and his colleagues’ list is to introduce some sort of religious mandate or thinly veiled mandate.”
Despite the success of the recall campaign
Pack said it was an uphill battle for One Temecula Valley and the Temecula Valley Educators Association to stop Komrosky and other right-wing candidates from making it onto the school board
Republicans not only make up a plurality of the electorate in Temecula
narrowly backed Trump over Vice President Kamala Harris in the presidential race
particularly outside of the state’s major cities
known for their dense concentrations of GOP supporters.
“We did an incredible job,” Pack said of the effort to elect non-extremists to the board
“I think it’s historic for all of the candidates
the time and just the effort spent on working to get these candidates elected has never been done here
we’ll be able to get them over the line because I think the community is going to start seeing some of the damage that has already been done and will start affecting the kids and the schools.”
He said the tight race between Komrosky and Sola demonstrates how important it is for the public to vote in school board elections
Some people likely voted for president but not for school board because they didn’t think the local race mattered or don’t have school-age children
“Our mantra has always been that a failed school district is a failed city
then you’re going to start seeing the repercussions of it
all community members should feel invested in school board races
just like everyone has a voice in who should represent their neighborhood in the city council,” Diaz said
While Byrd is dismayed by the outcome of the Temecula school board races
she said the work to hold the new trustees accountable and uplift the rights of all students in the district must continue.
“The One Temecula Valley PAC and the activists on the ground as well as Grandparents for Truth will continue to monitor what policies they might introduce and continue to fight back against anything that doesn’t support diversity
doesn’t support the families,” she said

then wanting to move from the Hollywood Hills to set up shop in Southwest Riverside County

Norris said his all time favorite stop was the Swing Inn Cafe and Barbecue

and hidden gems that make the Golden State truly special
His favorite places to visit include both Death Valley or Joshua Tree
I never thought of the desert as a destination
But if you've lived out here and you've gone to these places
the desert is beautiful and fascinating and crazy
You have to go to Death Valley in the winter because in summer it's too hot
We love to go to Joshua Tree and stay in a little old hotel
"It's the greatest part of California. We could wake up and go to the beach, enjoy some sunshine, and then, were we so inclined, we would take a drive up to Big Bear and do a little skiing," Norris said
That's certainly a gem that people probably know
We also go up there in the summer because it's great to walk around Big Bear
float around on the lake and do stuff like that
it would probably be a combination of those two things—the beach and then a trip to Big Bear and maybe grab some sushi in between."

CA — The Temecula Valley Unified School District Board of Trustees recently attempted to work through ill feelings after years of clashing on the dias
with accusations flying between Jen Wiersma and Steve Schwartz
All were present at the roundtable discussion meeting
They intended to address some root issues with their governance handbook and guidelines for working together
About an hour and a half into the meeting
while hammering out bullet points for " agreeing to disagree with civility," Wiersma used that time to call out Schwartz
Under a preface of "clearing the air," she accused Schwartz of "calling her and Dr
Komrosky Christian Nationalists," then alleged that as they gathered for a Christmas party photo
Schwartz suggested she "cop a feel" during the photo pose
and had "devalued her as a woman." She also suggested that the new Board President
"That's just Steve," which Anderson ignored during the meeting
Anderson did attempt to halt Wiersma's tirade during the public forum
"I think you are digging your own grave," Anderson warned Wiersma
and I'm doing you a favor by calling point of order."
Schwartz immediately addressed Wiersma's comment on Christian Nationalism
saying he "did not recall that incident." He apologized to both
he and Komrosky hashed it out and agreed that Schwartz had mentioned "Christian Nationalism," but he had never called anyone on the board a "Christian Nationalist."
As to the point of the Christmas party statement
revealing he had sworn statements from five people
"No one heard me say what she says she heard."
Schwartz—who met with his attorney during the break—said his lawyer wanted to file suit against Wiersma for defamation in civil court if she would not retract her comments
The two could not agree during the session
In an attempt to rein in the reason for the meeting
Komrosky suggested that "while it's good to air out dirty laundry
Emil Barham suggested: "We need to focus on the kids
Anderson wrote a statement to Patch via email
explaining that she was aware of Schwartz's civil lawsuit before the meeting and was being used as a "star witness" to Wiersma's claims
and both declined further comments on the session
