(KATU) — Deputies arrested a man caught storing stolen motorcycles at his elderly father’s home in Troutdale
the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office said
The investigation started on April 8 when a deputy pulled over 42-year-old Michael Falk for riding a Harley Davidson without a license plate
The deputy also couldn’t locate a VIN number on the motorcycle
The sheriff’s office linked Falk to a home on Southeast 18th Street that deputies say had “an unusually high number of motorcycles” parked at the property
Deputies worked with the Portland Police Auto Theft Task Force to confirm that the Harley had been stolen
and then worked to get a search warrant for the property on 18th Street
deputies found two more stolen motorcycles with their VINs removed
and other prohibited weapons among the total 15 bikes and parts at the home
Falk was arrested on an outstanding warrant
but now faces additional charges including two counts of possession of a stolen vehicle
two counts of trafficking in vehicles with altered VINs
two counts of felon in possession of prohibited weapons
and one count of felon in possession of a firearm
A Multnomah County grand jury indicted Falk on all charges
Officials said neighbors expressed relief and appreciation for law enforcement's intervention
The City of Troutdale Code Enforcement also responded to address code violations at the residence
and commitment to addressing both criminal activity and neighborhood livability issues are exemplary
This case showcases the dedication of our deputies to ensuring the safety and wellbeing of our community."

Home : Bikes : Bike Parking : TriMet adding weekend bus service in Gresham and Troutdale
November 21, 2024 by Mark Miller
connecting communities and serving commuters
TriMet’s latest bus service improvements are coming to East Multnomah County on Sunday
We’re adding more buses on Line 81-Kane/257th
We’re also making a small route adjustment to serve more people in Gresham
The improved Line 81 will now provide weekend service to the Troutdale Reynolds Industrial Park (TRIP)
a major jobs center that is home to Amazon and FedEx facilities
It will continue to connect with the MAX Blue Line
FX2-Division and other lines at the Gresham Central Transit Center
so commuters can get to and from their jobs every day
You can find more information at trimet.org/servicechange. Plan your trip now at trimet.org — just select a date on or after Dec
The Line 81 upgrade is the latest to come from our Forward Together service concept
we’re making improvements across our entire bus network to better serve riders
and making our buses work better for people
especially those who rely on transit to get where they need to go
you’ll see Line 81 buses running on Saturdays and Sundays
Instead of running along Northeast Division Street between Kane Drive and the Gresham Central Transit Center
the improved line will run along Southeast Powell Boulevard
similar to the route that Line 80 currently takes
We’re making this change because of low ridership on Line 80
as well as overlap with Line 81 for much of its route — making Line 81 the best option for most riders
Service to Glenn Otto Park will be discontinued due to low ridership
We’re adjusting schedules on a few additional bus lines elsewhere in our service area to improve connections for riders and keep buses running on time
These schedule adjustments will make our bus system more reliable and help riders get around, especially those whose trip includes two or more lines. Visit trimet.org/servicechange for more details
The improvements we are making to our bus service are included in our Forward Together revised service concept
We began developing the Forward Together concept in 2022
Our goal is to improve connections and service for people throughout our region
and particularly for those with low or limited incomes
We know many people depend on TriMet for transportation to job sites
adjusting schedules and shifting resources where they’re most needed
As we prepare to roll out additional Forward Together improvements in the years to come
we will continue to gather community feedback
For more information, visit trimet.org/forward.

2025 2:51 p.m.Oregon has only allowed the eulachon smelt fishery four times since the fish was listed as threatened 15 years ago.Thousands of people lined the Sandy River in Troutdale
to take part in the seven-hour eulachon smelt dipnet fishery
grandparents and kids jostled for a good spot and ready their nets
then return to their native stream to spawn and die
they had just beaten an important deadline
The fishery didn’t officially open until noon
Then they waded into the water to dip their nets
It only took five seconds before someone pulled out dozens of smelt
People filled a bucket of eulachon smelt in just a few minutes during the erratic fishery along the Sandy River near Troutdale
This was the Sandy River eulachon smelt dip net fishery
It only happens once every few years because the runs are erratic
because the state is trying to protect the fish
Tod Whitaker caught is limit of 10 pounds of smelt with just two dips of his net along the Sandy River
“Everybody was afraid that it had stopped forever,” Whitaker said
Two scoops of his net and he caught the 10-pound limit
“Because I feel there are a few folks who went way over the limit.”
About 100 fish writhed in a blue bucket by his side
The eulachon smelt fishery is truly a wonder
tugging the imagination back to the days when
people could walk across Oregon’s rivers on the backs of the salmon
Although some biologists aren’t sure that was ever actually the case
Whitaker said he remembers fishing along the Sandy River in the 1980s when the smelt run was enormous
“Everybody was afraid that it had stopped forever,” he said
Eulachon smelt were listed as threatened under the Endangered Species Act in 2010
Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife biologist Ben Walczak said their abundance has since increased to a level that allows limited harvest
“So there are some restrictions on what we can and can’t do
and what the recreational take can be,” Walczak said
Related: 2,500 pounds of smelt seized from poachers along the Sandy River
Eulachon smelt have a long history with Native American tribes
They’re sometimes called “salvation fish,” because they come at the end of winter when food supplies run low
Thirty-four different bird species can eat them
“Trade through the first people was really huge for these fish
They’re also known as “candlefish” because they can be dried
Some historians think the name “Oregon” may be a corruption of the smelt name eulachon
but one is not dissimilar in sound to Oregon
People also talk of the “Eulachon Trail,” a tribal trade route for fish oil
About 10,000 people gathered along the Sandy River for the seven-hour smelt fishery last time it was open
The oil was harvested by allowing the fish to decompose for a week in a hole in the ground
which would then float to the surface and be skimmed off
perhaps the best part of this sporadic smelt run is that it often coincides with spring break
we’ve seen people that were young in the 40s and 50s when there were good runs
which is pretty cool to see,” Walczak said
a middle school student at Oregon Episcopal School in Portland
points out his family on the banks of the river
His family has five buckets full of fish and they’re planning a big meal
“Put some green onion and oil and some ginger inside
The smelt oils flow out into the water when they’re on the hook
Much of the smelt run charm comes from its erratic nature
Since they were listed as threatened 15 years ago
the state has only allowed four lightning-fast seasons
The last one attracted about 10,000 people
One dip of the net can catch scores of smelt

(KATU) — Troutdale law enforcement is investigating a dog abuse case after a graphic video showed a man kicking a puppy repeatedly on Monday
officers were dispatched to an apartment complex in Troutdale around 1:50 p.m
The caller detailed adisturbing case of cruelty involving a 12-week-old Rottweiler-Bull Terrier mix named Bruno
When deputies arrived they talked to a witness and watched security video footage of the man
who is identified as25-year-old Merlyn Christopher Blair
***DISCLAIMER*** THE FOLLOWING VIDEO MAY CONTAIN DISTURBING MATERIAL
Blair can be seen kicking the dog as it is urinating
causing the puppy's legs to be lifted completely off the ground
Deputies say when the suspect learned he had been reported toapartment management
he approached the reporting witness’ front door and kicked it
Blair was taken tothe Multnomah County Detention Center (MCDC) and booked on theoffenses of animal abuse in the second degree and disorderly conduct in the second degree
he was released on his ownrecognizance and ordered to appear in court for arraignment on Tuesday
The puppy did not require any medical attention and was turned over to Blair'sgirlfriend when he went to jail
Multnomah County Sheriff's Office deputies obtained a warrant to remove Bruno and place him in the custody of the Multnomah County Animal Services
“So Oregon Humane Society receives about 3,500 calls and online reports every year
most of those calls are just a matter of maybe connecting a person with resources," said Laura Klink with the Oregon Humane Society
Portland became the home of one of only two companion animal forensic centers in the nation
and it also allows us to be a resource to other law enforcement agencies because these cases can be incredibly difficult to prosecute
especially if you don't have video evidence," said Klink
The Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office encourages people to report any suspected animal abuse. For more information on how to report animal cruelty, click here.
2024 4:29 p.m.Firefighters stand around the debris of the crashed Cessna 421C aircraft in Fairview
A small aircraft went down and hit multiple townhouses in Fairview
near the Troutdale Airport Saturday morning
The two-engine Cessna 421C aircraft crashed at a residential area in Fairview
a town home to about 10,000 people located about 12 miles east of downtown Portland
according to Federal Aviation Administration
Troutdale Airport is described on the Port of Portland’s website as a “flight training and recreational airport.”
FAA said two people were on board at the time of the crash
one of the agencies responding to the incident
a single passenger and a resident living in a townhouse near Fairview’s Heartwood Circle were killed after the aircraft had experienced mechanical issues and fallen onto the residential area
A townhouse is damaged after being hit by the Cessna 421C aircraft in Fairview
Lewis said the first call about the fire came from staff at the Troutdale Airport’s control tower
who saw a thick plume of smoke rising in the air
But Lewis said that initial reports indicated “there was no mayday
no call for emergency” from the aircraft itself before it crashed
causing a separate brush fire in a nearby field
according to the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office
First responders told OPB that the plane was split into multiple parts after the collision
The Portland General Electric said in early Saturday afternoon that the incident impacted electricity supply to about 9,000 customers
Power supply was later restored to these customers around 3 p.m
The National Transportation Safety Board is leading the investigation into the crash
The agency has sent two investigators to the site of the crash to document the wreckage
