the Pittsburgh Steelers made a strong effort to upgrade their offensive line
They used first-round picks on tackles during each of those drafts with Broderick Jones and Troy Fautanu
in part of a rash of injuries that ravaged the unit to begin the 2024 season
Pittsburgh lost Fautanu for the year shortly after his rookie campaign began
Steelers insider Mark Kaboly has high hopes for the young tackle
“I think [Troy] Fautanu’s gonna be a guy that’s a difference-maker,” Kaboly said on 93.7 The Fan on Monday
from the little bit you saw last year and just how he went about his business and how he just acts and how he talks
I am really sold on the guy jumping in there at right tackle and being very
Both Fautanu and his draft classmate Roman Wilson are essentially entering their rookie years after injuries took them out of action in 2024
Fautanu didn’t play in the season-opener against the Atlanta Falcons
He played in Week 2 against the Denver Broncos
Fautanu wound up suffering a season-ending knee injury in practice
This year represents a fresh start for Fautanu. While he’s versatile enough to play on the interior of the line as well
he’s got a clear path to playing time in 2025
The Steelers have moved Jones around during his short NFL career so far
but he looks primed for the left tackle spot this year
who Kaboly is clearly expecting a big sophomore campaign from
Kaboly mentions being a fan of the way Fautanu goes “about his business.” That’s something the Steelers noticed last year. Dealing with a season-ending injury in your rookie year is hard for any player. Yet, Fautanu worked tirelessly to get back to action towards the end of the season
he didn’t end up making it back on the field
there were murmurs of him potentially even coming back if the Steelers had progressed further into the playoffs last year
Fautanu is part of a young offensive line heading into the 2025 season with high potential
He’s not the only young buck on that unit either
had a terrific rookie season at center last year
Mason McCormick showed some promise and he’ll take the right guard position
there’s a lot to be excited about with this unit going forward
The Steelers hope Fautanu is one of the brightest spots

CUTLINES: Troy Mayor Jason Reeves declared May 4-10 as National Correctional Officers and Employees Week
Troy Mayor Jason Reeves signed a proclamation on Monday
declaring this week National Correctional Officers and Employees Week
National Correctional Officers and Employees Week was first proclaimed on May 5
by former President Ronald Reagan to recognize the men and women in law enforcement who work in jails and community corrections across the country
has been designated as National Correctional Officers and Employees Week by the U.S
Department of Justice and Federal Bureau of Prisons
Reeves signed the proclamation as he was surrounded by correctional officers and jailers from Pike County Jail and the Troy City Jail
“Since we’ve had communities we’ve had people that wanted to live outside of the way the community deemed appropriate,” Reeves said
“That meant over time people needed to be incarcerated
That is a hard thing to deal with and you all handle it every day
Y’all provide a service that is necessary for everything we do in public safety
We appreciate you and everything that you do
Troy Police Chief Danny Barron echoed Reeves’ thoughts on the local jailers
“It’s unfortunate that we have to have prisons and jail facilities but we do,” he said
“When people act up and have to go to jail and serve time it’s very important we have people there to care for them
have their medications they need and get seen about daily
Barron said jailers also have to have compassion
which is part of hoping that inmates don’t return when they ultimately leave
“They see the people that come into the jails on their worst days and have to deal with a lot of tough situations,” said Barron
they are compassionate people and get to know these people that are serving time
Our hope is that in that time they spend down there that maybe they learn and don’t come back
Our jailers provide a great service to our community
There is no way we could function as a government – and do our jobs – without our corrections officers.”

heading to Texas to serve as Arch Manning’s backup
who began his career as a walk-on at Jacksonville State
has shown an ability to find his way on the field over his four years in college
212-pounder brings 23 games of collegiate experience to Steve Sarkisian’s Longhorns
who are extremely young at the quarterback position entering 2025
After the departure of Quinn Ewers to the NFL
Texas returns just two career starts at the position
coming in the form of Arch Manning’s pair of starts last season
Caldwell will compete with a pair of former four-star recruits in Trey Owens and Karle Lacey Jr
During Longhorns’ head coach Steve Sarkisian’s four seasons in Austin
multiple quarterbacks have started games for the team
Caldwell started the final five games of last year at Troy
where he led the Trojans to a 3-2 record and guided the offense to averaging over 35 points per game with him under center
Caldwell threw for over 1,600 yards with 13 touchdowns and eight interceptions
Troy head coach Gerad Parker returns quarterback Will “Goose” Crowder
who threw for 542 yards with five touchdowns and no interceptions last year

Per reports from On3, the Longhorns have signed Troy quarterback transfer Matthew Caldwell
who had a career season for the Trojans in 2024
Texas will mark the fourth stop the Auburn
native has made in his college career after one year at Jacksonville State and two at Gardner-Webb
Caldwell completed 141 of 223 passes for 1,608 yards
He also added five rushing touchdowns and even caught a 29-yard pass
Caldwell's five rushing touchdowns were the most by a Troy quarterback since the 2017 season
USA; Iowa Hawkeyes defensive lineman Max Llewellyn (48) sacks Troy Trojans quarterback Matthew Caldwell (12) during the third quarter at Kinnick Stadium
Mandatory Credit: Jeffrey Becker-Imagn Images / Jeffrey Becker-Imagn ImagesCaldwell started the final five games of the season for Troy and six total
including on the road against Iowa in September
He finished that game 14 of 21 passing for 156 yards
one touchdown and one interception in the 38-21 loss
Caldwell's best game of the season came in a win over Georgia Southern when he went 26 of 32 passing for 288 yards
two touchdowns and no picks while adding two more scores with his legs
He was named Sun Belt Offensive Player of the Week and Manning Star of the Week for his efforts
Caldwell could now potentially battle Trey Owens in fall camp for the backup role behind Arch Manning
Though Caldwell's in-game reps are limited compared to some veteran players
he has the most collegiate experience of anyone in the quarterback room aside from Joe Tatum
KJ Lacey could then be pushed from third-string to fourth
Manning is set to enter his first full season as a starter after taking over for Quinn Ewers but could potentially be the No
1 overall pick next draft cycle if he lives up to expectations in 2025
Ewers helped lead Texas to back-to-back College Football Playoff Semifinals before being a seventh-round pick by the Miami Dolphins
Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian will be hoping that Caldwell doesn't have to play due to a Manning injury
the Longhorns will at least have a veteran that can steady the ship if need be
