Making Monsters podcast on our 2nd City Gridiron channels, Taylor Doll talked with Texas A&M defensive line coach Tony Jerod-Eddie about his former player, and Chicago Bears second-round draft pick Shemar Turner Coach Jerod-Eddie joined Taylor from the recruiting road but he was happy to jump on and share some insight about Turner with our listeners “He’s played literally everywhere,” Jerod-Eddie said about Turner’s time at Texas A&M “every position from a nine to a six to a five especially in the league that you guys are in I think that’s one of the main reasons that he’s going to thrive in that league is because of his versatility.” Turner played mostly defensive tackle (3-tech and 2i) but he feels he was at his best the previous year playing field-side defensive end “But the stuff that don’t show up on the stat sheet is the effort and how hard he plays and the motor that he plays with is just stuff that you can’t teach and you kinda just gotta have it and he’s got it.” Turner Center offers more than 50 beginner-friendly classes and workshops for youth and adults each month Instrumental in the success of these programs are a team of two dozen art instructors and assistants who help students bring their artistic visions to life Five of these assistant instructors shared their experiences working in art classes and Elizabeth Wilson – some of the Turner Center’s class assistants – have all been pursuing art since high school “I don’t remember a time when I wasn’t interested in pursuing art…I remember dressing as an artist for my career day in second grade and that passion has continued through my life!” Figueroa said “Art has always been an interest of mine…what captured my interest was that you can bring what you see in your head to life for others to enjoy.” Class assistants are regularly recruited through active partnerships with educators at institutions such as Valdosta State University and Lowndes High School The Turner Center works to give aspiring artists experience in working with a variety of student ages and backgrounds which the assistants can apply to careers as artists and/or teachers after graduation The assistants perform critical functions for the Turner Center as they work with lead instructors to develop classes that promote learning When asked what they love most about working with students at the Turner Center these assistants described the thrill of seeing students excited about art who has assisted youth classes and is now an instructor for youth summer art camps said “My favorite part is when the students add me to their art!” Figueroa described the joy of watching art bring together groups of people are better when the fun is shared with others!” Figueroa also encouraged others to become involved in the arts saying “Try something new – try many things…art comes in many forms and can be created by anyone!” Liborio said “Working with kids is awesome – they are filled with so much imagination Once you ask them what the story is behind their work you can see the excitement in their eyes.” Simpson who assists the Turner Center’s monthly Adult Pottery Workshop said “Most adult classes are scheduled with work in mind…there are evening classes to unwind after a long day and Saturday workshops you can take with friends to make a day of it – making art just for the fun of it is so important!” To learn more about classes at the Center, visit turnercenter.org/classes, or contact Art Education Administrator Hailey Rathmann at hrathmann@turnercenter.org or 229.247.2787 League The soothing colours of dusks and dawns dominate the room at Sharjah’s Al Hamriyah Studio, but it is the work’s sound components, emanating through hanging sea shells, that largely inform the mood. You may walk in to wind chimes, the shush of waves rolling ashore, and the whistle of whales. Or you may be greeted with the trilling of a telephone, the frantic clicks of Morse code – and feel the anxiety of a call unanswered, the spookiness of an untraceable and undecipherable message, or the rage of a spurned one. Then there are the melodies, ringing in sustained and haunting pitches, permeating the space with a spectral essence. But no matter when you happen to enter the space, stay long enough and the mysticism of the work will mesmerise you. Tuesday—Friday, 10am—6pmSaturday, 10am—2pm 2F, 122-1 Dokseodang-ro,Yongsan-gu, Seoul 04420 Actors Jodie Turner-Smith and Joshua Jackson have met a resolve involving their divorce The ex-spouses, who married in 2019 and separated in 2023, utilized a mediator to create a temporary split custody schedule for their 4-year-old daughter, Juno. According to People Turner-Smith and Jackson have also hammered out details regarding the “Doctor Odyssey” star paying $2,787 in child support and a large lump sum for spousal support While the exes have been amicable over the care of their daughter they haven’t yet reached an agreement over where Juno will be attending school after Turner-Smith and Jackson attended a “full-day mediation” with a judge last May where Juno’s “temporary custody issues” were agreed upon the former spouses had gotten “into a Stipulation and Order to resolve the issue of selection of Juno’s school.” The “Queen & Slim” actress wrote that she has “clear authority to make the school selection in Juno’s best interest,” while her ex-husband is “refusing to adhere to the terms of the Stipulation and Order and is depriving me of the right to select the school.” Following “consistent efforts to meet and confer with Josh in good faith,” Turner-Smith alleged that her ex-husband “never intended to honor” her school selection The actress now seeks $75,000 in attorney fees Last December, Turner Smith claimed that Jackson failed to provide financial security for her and their daughter, although “he understood how difficult life can be as a Black woman and a single mother.” a Georgia defense attorney stood inside a metro Atlanta courtroom As the attorney explained the sentence he and a prosecutor had negotiated he noted that his client’s codefendant – then-21-year-old Gordon Turner – was being held in Maryland on what he thought were murder charges “That guy will be locked up for life,” the defense attorney said according to a court transcript obtained by Delaware Online/The News Journal “There is no doubt Turner is not going to be milling around now.” He’d been released from a Maryland prison to serve out his sentence on supervised probation Delaware police say he fled from officers in Newark where he crashed a U-Haul van into pedestrians and cars a 24-year-old University of Delaware graduate student MARINA VASCONCELOS: Newark police ID University of Delaware graduate student killed in Main Street crash At the time of Turner’s release from prison last summer he was wanted in both metro Atlanta and Lancaster on numerous felony and misdemeanor charges bound only by probation requirements in Maryland – which court records show he later violated Turner now sits in a Delaware prison on murder charges stemming from the Newark crash With a lengthy criminal history in multiple states of fleeing from police attempted murder charges and other felonies it's hard to understand why Turner wasn't already under law enforcement's watchful eye But in the wake of the April 29 deadly crash a larger question remains: Had he been extradited to Georgia or Pennsylvania to face those outstanding charges Georgia court records show Turner was charged with 17 felonies and misdemeanors in April 2023 The charges stemmed from various incidents that occurred between November 2021 and June 2022 in Cobb County Cobb is one of four counties that make up metro Atlanta The offenses ranged from felony shoplifting for a scheme he and a codefendant reportedly concocted to steal iPhones from Walmart to fleeing from police and crashing into a patrol car threatening to kill a police officer and various other offenses GORDON TURNER: Man charged with murder after Newark crash that injured 9, including 1 UD student fatally Turner had been arrested several different times on some of the charges but was released after posting bond each time The 17-offense charging document combined all those arrests into one court case At the time the case was filed in Cobb County Superior Court on April 26 He may not have even been in the state at the time court records obtained by Delaware Online/The News Journal say he shot at a car in Cecil County which reportedly occurred after a verbal argument resulted in two people being injured when their car overturned along Elkton Road – about one-third of a mile from the Delaware/Maryland state line who court records say was the passenger and also the shooter was charged in July 2023 with 29 offenses for that incident including two counts each of first- and second-degree attempted murder It’s these attempted murder charges that the Georgia defense attorney likely mistook for murder given there is no record of Turner ever having been charged with murder in Maryland as the Maryland charges were dismissed on May 13 The Cecil County State's Attorney's office did not respond to Delaware Online/The News Journal’s questions as to why the charges were dropped that the same day the 29 charges were dismissed Turner pleaded guilty to two misdemeanor weapons offenses from a separate case: illegal possession of a firearm and illegal possession of ammunition Those two charges stemmed from a June 2023 incident in which Turner was found to have a .40-caliber handgun Turner pleaded guilty and was sentenced to one year in prison Because he had been held in prison without bond since his July 2023 arrest however – and received credit for the 293 days he’d been behind bars – he had to serve only 72 more days in jail This meant that Turner would have been released from the Cecil County Detention Center on July 24 He was then scheduled to be on probation for three years in Maryland circuit court seeking a sentence modification said Turner had “no criminal convictions prior to this case” and that he “believes he will do well on supervised probation.” Turner hopes for a reduction in his sentence after he gets his probation underway,” the motion said there remained the matter of the unresolved Georgia charges as well as 18 offenses – two of which were felonies – out of Lancaster Those included fleeing from police and a weapons offense states have adopted the Uniform Criminal Extradition Act which outlines the process for transfers between states If police in one state run an offender’s name through their computer database they can usually view a person’s warrants or criminal charges in another state That's thanks to the National Crime Information Center a computerized index of missing persons and criminal information Just because a person has outstanding charges in another state does not necessarily mean they’ll be extradited if a person was arrested in Delaware but has a warrant in California Delaware authorities will not automatically turn that person over to police in California Delaware police will typically notify California that they’ve arrested a wanted person But it’s up to California authorities – with a required sign-off from the governor – to submit a written request to have the offender extradited The request alone also doesn’t guarantee a person will be transferred Those include a required court hearing and judicial approval unless the person voluntarily agrees to be returned to the other jurisdiction Even if a person waives their extradition hearing they won't automatically be transferred to the other state Many jurisdictions require that an offender resolve their charges in the arresting state before being extradited That means if a person is charged with felony assault in Delaware those charges would have to be adjudicated in the First State before an extradition would occur for example – especially if the charges are misdemeanors or less serious felonies – the state may cap its extradition radius at a certain number of miles given the requesting state typically foots the bill for a transfer That's not necessarily to say that any charge is too small In May 2021, the Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, Sheriff's Office requested to extradite a man who was arrested in Felton for an outstanding warrant The Pennsylvania charges included both misdemeanors and simple violations for which a ticket is usually issued it's usually more serious charges for which offenders are extradited Turner's felonies in both Georgia and Pennsylvania would likely have been considered serious The Cobb County District Attorney’s Office did not respond to Delaware Online/The News Journal's inquiry as to whether they requested Turner's extradition to face the 17 charges from April 2023 once he was released from prison in Maryland last summer Available court records do not show any transfer request An official with the Lancaster County District Attorney’s Office also confirmed that Turner was not extradited after his Maryland release but did not say whether the state had requested his transfer Turner’s release from prison wasn’t the only time he could have been extradited less than five months after leaving the Maryland jail he was arrested by Middletown Police Department officers after trying to steal 10 men’s overalls from a Delaware Tractor Supply Co Turner faces a possession of a controlled substance charge The case is still pending in New Castle County Court of Common Pleas as is his violation of probation charge in Maryland courts it doesn't appear that Georgia or Pennsylvania has requested his extradition It’s unknown if those states will ever request his transfer said Delaware Attorney General Kathy Jennings the fact that he’s wanted elsewhere may help keep him behind bars in Delaware he should not step out of prison," Jennings said on April 30 the presence of a warrant from other states helps." Christmas sweater with Diesel on it Darryl said his son earned the nickname as a kid playing basketball because he was so big and forceful that he resembled a young Shaquille O'Neal The way Jones' two-handed dunks left the backboard shaking the comparison to Shaq isn't that far fetched but Jones' development took time when he began playing AAU he played against players several years older than he was It took him between 20 or 30 games to make his first layup playing for the Fort Bend All-Stars being one of the biggest kids in the school didn't negate the fact that he needed to get better Jones began his high school career on the freshman team "He was just sorta kinda trying to figure out his body In AAU it's difficult for big guys because they don't have the ball and they're not handling the ball that's butter' after every shot like it was going to go in but you could tell he was going to be really impactful defensively his rapid improvement caught the eye of powerhouse basketball program Oak Hill Academy in Mouth of Wilson Jones transferred to Oak Hill for his senior season where he played a national schedule against other top teams around the country The most eye-opening game for Jones was one against Montverde Academy in Montverde (Florida) a team with what may be one of the best prep rosters ever assembled The 2022-23 Eagles had projected 2025 NBA Draft No Former five-star recruit Kwame Evans led Montverde with 16 points "It was such an eye opener because pretty much every game I played at Oak Hill I was playing somebody who is in the NBA right now or I'm playing people who are at Power Fives," Jones said I love the process of getting better and this basketball journey has been very fulfilling and its paid dividends with the work that I've put in over my life so far." but Jones committed to South Carolina State over East Tennessee State The move from Strake to Oak Hill was challenging for Jones He had grown three inches by the time he got to South Carolina State stronger competition and added another growth opportunity Meet Butler's 'Dennis Rodman' lite: An Isaiah Thomas assist, a disease and growth spurts "I learned I wasn't as good as I thought I was," Jones said "The things that worked in high school wouldn't work for me He broke me down in order to build me back up He broke down everything that I was good at and he broke down everything that I was bad at "Over these last two years he's really tried to help me build a very strong foundation going forward Really just doing as much as possible to facilitate and improve each facet of my game." Jones' best game came against Tulsa during nonconference play Jones scored in double figures just four more times as a freshman but he ended the season reaching double figures in three of his last seven games When the Smith-Hammond-Middleton Center was closed for social functions the big man took to running stairs at the football stadium to work on his conditioning big feet and big hands started to fill out Jones was finally ready to scratch the surface of his immense potential Trainer John Lucas II says Drayton Jones is like NBA's Clint CapelaFully comfortable in his body for the first time in years but he still needed work on the finer points of basketball 1 pick of the 1976 NBA Draft and longtime NBA coach John Lucas II Lucas is well known throughout NBA circles for his player development on and off the court He was most recently an assistant coach for the Houston Rockets Working with Lucas gave Jones a taste of what it's like to train at an NBA level because one thing about coach Lucas is that he'll be consistent every day," Jones said you're still going to have to see him at 6 and he's going to be on you from the time you walk into the gym to the time you walk out "He taught me how to be simple with the game How to play the game effectively and efficiently but I didn't understand the importance of playing hard until I got with coach Lucas this past year." Dawg Talk Podcast: Incoming transfers, lineup projections and more Lucas has had his hands in molding some of the top NBA players from the Houston area and many former Rockets players Lucas compares Jones' demeanor and shot-blocking ability to Indiana Pacers center Myles Turner the longtime coach compares Jones to former NBA rebounding champion "He's a rim runner who can post over either shoulder," Lucas said of Jones "He can set post-side pick-and-rolls and roll for lobs He's a weak side shot blocker and physical force inside I think he fits Butler and Big East basketball to a tee so I taught him pro concepts and where to be from the professional side .. He's in position to do a lot of things that he didn't have earlier." Lucas said when he first started working with Jones he still needed to grow into his body and he needed to improve on his lateral quickness Jones has the agility to switch onto guards in a pinch and the high basketball IQ to be a dominant shot blocker beating his man down the court and making himself available for lobs and offensive rebounds Jones worked on his jump shot to add an additional layer to his game Jones' fundamentals are solid and he's accurate in the mid-range He did not attempt a 3-pointer at South Carolina State but he improved his free throw shooting from 63% as a freshman to 69% as a sophomore helped the Bulldogs go on an 11-game winning streak and reach the MEAC conference title game Jones' work with Lucas led to a breakout sophomore campaign earning first-team All-MEAC and all-defensive team honors He scored a career-high 34 points in the Dec "It was confidence from the work I put in off the court with my trainer as far as lifting and conditioning to the work I put in on the court "Just the confidence I built within myself and the confidence that everybody else in the program — coaches Just going into every single game trying to do the best I can for my team "I had the same approach for every single game to attack and to do what needed to be done in order to win." Once Jones established himself as a two-way threat opposing teams tried to attack him off the dribble to put him in foul trouble Jones said he knows the importance of protecting the rim without fouling he earned the trust of his coaches to play late into games with four fouls Injury or foul trouble would greatly diminish the Bulldogs' frontcourt depth so adding another big with its last open roster should not be out of the question for Thad Matta and his staff Sister's death was 'super difficult.' How Butler transfer Yame Butler found 'a lot of joy' Jones has embraced challenges at every level he's reached He knows conquering the Big East is his latest challenge "I'm going into a place where I know I'm not going to be the best but I'm going somewhere where I know I'm going to get better," Jones said I'm going to be playing against pros every day I'm going to welcome that because I've always welcomed the challenge I've never been considered somebody who was the cream of the crop and I've always used that as motivation to get better I've used that chip on my shoulder to flourish." in Terre Haute to Doylene Turner and June Stewart Turner.  Larry was a proud and dedicated farmer for 63 years.  In his earlier years he loved taking the family boating on Kentucky Lake.  He was also in a bowling league for many years.  Larry will be remembered for his favorite colors green (John Deere) and red (his red trucks).  When they were able to get away from working the fields Larry and Donna were blessed to have visited Europe several times.  They were able to experience Switzerland and Paris among other beautiful countries.  Larry was a member of the Farmersburg West Lawn Cemetery Board and a member of the Farmersburg United Methodist Church.  Most of all Larry was a family man.  He loved spending time with his wife and grandchildren.  He will be missed by so many Larry is survived by his beloved wife of 33 years and Jeff Duling (Sherri); grandchildren Olivia Johnson and Harry Chambers; great grandchildren Elias Johnson and Wakely Sage; brother John Turner (Cheryl) his beloved cats Coco and Samantha; and many close friends and extended family He was preceded in death by his parents and son in law Jay Johnson to 1:00 p.m.  Service will begin at the funeral home on Friday at 1:00 p.m.  Pastor Jeff Blansett will officiate Burial will follow at Farmersburg West Lawn.  USA; Philadelphia Phillies shortstop Trea Turner (7) signs autographs before game against the Arizona Diamondbacks at Citizens Bank Park Mandatory Credit: Eric Hartline-Imagn Images The clash between the Diamondbacks and the Mets serves as a turning point in a challenging season where every inning demands determination and fresh energy—especially when a key..
