Tuscumbia Fire Chief JT Fox told WAFF 48 the fire happened at a vape canister storage warehouse across the street from Flexco on 6th Street
Investigators believe the fire started because of an expanding vapor explosion inside the warehouse
Debris from the explosion could be seen all over the street in front of the warehouse
Leaders of the Tuscumbia Police Department said they consider any damage done by explosion to be accidental
They are asking anyone with damage to report it to your insurance company or the property owner

The decision came less than three weeks after the February 15 EF-1 tornado which caused severe damage to the city
“We had the insurance adjuster here [Thursday]
and he almost witnessed two wrecks at an intersection where people aren’t abiding by temporary stop signs,” Mayor William Foster explained
Foster added that the intersections in question are a stretch of three along downtown Tuscumbia’s Main Street
According to WAFF 48’s newspaper partner, the Times Daily, the intersections generally have functioning red lights
but the steel utility poles were destroyed during the storm
they could not be repaired with the usual wooden poles stocked by Tuscumbia Utilities
temporary four-way stop signs have been placed at the intersections
recommended that we declare the emergency because we have a public safety issue on our hands,” Foster said
“When we clarify that this is an emergency
then the insurance company can fast-track the repair process.”
Foster said after the state of emergency was declared
he could contact a contractor who will begin ordering necessary parts and pulling wire for the utility lines
he anticipates the repairs will be completed at least a month sooner than they otherwise would be
“The rest of the repairs will be at a normal pace,” Foster said
“Because this is an issue of public safety
we want to get it done as quickly as possible.”
