Search warrants reveal the suspicious actions of two state troopers after a deadly crash in October 2024 on Raleigh's Capital Boulevard
North Carolina State Highway Patrol Trooper Garrett Macario and Sgt
Matthew Morrison have been under investigation for their response to the crash that killed Tyrone Mason
His death was first reported as a single-car crash
but his family believes that troopers were chasing him
Wake County District Attorney Lorrin Freeman said evidence from the crash investigation -- including video from dash and body cameras -- led her to look closer at the work of Macario and Morrison
and she has since dismissed charges in almost 200 pending cases involving one or both of them
The troopers have been put on administrative leave
the State Bureau of Investigation reviewed footage recorded on the night of the crash by Macario's body-worn camera that showed him first trying to pull Mason over on Capital Boulevard near Wake Forest Road
The camera went on to show Macario calling Morrison to report what had happened
Morrison can be heard asking Macario whether he had called in a vehicle chase on his radio
Morrison told Trooper Macario that the traffic accident was RPD's problem
Morrison then told Trooper Macario not to tell responding Raleigh Police Department Officers that he tried to stop Mason before the traffic accident," the warrant says
"RPD asked Trooper Macario if he was pulling over Mason which led to the traffic accident
Trooper Macario told Officer Urena that he was not trying to pull Mason over and that he came up on the wreck and saw the smoke and debris from the vehicle," the warrant says
The SBI also searched personal cellphones used by Macario and Morrison
Mason's family has retained two high-profile civil rights attorneys to demand answers from the North Carolina State Highway Patrol about the role of the troopers in his death
"From day 1 when they came to me and told me my son died in a single-car accident with no witnesses
I told them that is not true," Mason's mother said
"Someone on the force had to have been chasing my son
"We know something happened here that is more than they are telling us," Attorney Ben Crump
Wake DA Freeman said she was tipped off to the questions about the crash by someone inside the SBI
"All that we ask is everyone come together and get justice for my son
"Our office is currently reviewing the investigation
and it is my hope that this review will be completed in the coming weeks."

Actor Tyrone Power would have turned 111 on May 5, 2025, and while it’s been decades since his too-soon passing on November 15, 1958, the dashing star of The Mark of Zorro, Blood and Sand and Nightmare Alley still holds a special place in Hollywood history
With his good looks and intense screen presence
a few romantic scandals and some unforgettable stories that might surprise even longtime fans
Here are seven things you may not know about the beloved leading man:
Power could have easily stayed in Hollywood playing soldiers and swashbucklers
Marine Corps during World War II and became a pilot
including the dangerous task of airlifting wounded Marines out of places like Iwo Jima and Okinawa
Unlike some stars who stayed stateside for morale tours
Power was in the thick of it and even refused special treatment
20th Century Fox Film Corp/Everett Collection
While filming Jesse James in Missouri in 1939
Power had a brief relationship with a local woman
She later gave birth to a son and put him up for adoption
Power didn’t find out until years later and spent a good portion of the 1940s trying to locate the child
He hired private investigators and reportedly spent a fortune on the search
Power wasn’t one to toss aside his work once the cameras stopped rolling
he had all of his film scripts carefully bound in leather and stored in his personal library
giving himself a chance to reminisce about his former roles whenever he wanted
20th Century Fox Film Corp./Everett Collection
When Billy Wilder set out to adapt Witness for the Prosecution for the big screen
Power was his top choice to play Leonard Vole
Power was going through a rough time emotionally and professionally
but when Power changed his mind and agreed to take the part
He was paid $300,000 plus a share of the profits
and the film became one of his best performances
20th Century Fox Film Corp./courtesy Everett Collection
Even after his death, Power’s image continued to resonate with younger generations. In 1967, when the Beatles released their iconic Sgt
Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band album
the cover featured a collage of famous figures from history and pop culture including Power
Power and Judy Garland reportedly had a passionate love affair while he was married
she got pregnant and when Power wouldn’t leave his wife
MGM and her mother pressured her to have an abortion
let's take a moment to honor the sacrifices of these celebrities who chose to serve their country
We would be remiss if we didn’t share the YouTube session that Tyrone Johnson did following his 97.5 the Fanatic departure:
Tyrone reiterated several times that he was thankful for all of the messages he received
noting that he didn’t have an opportunity to say goodbye to listeners
That was the main reason for getting on YouTube
Didn’t beat around the bush while noting that he’s “not overly wounded,” and it’s totally believable based on the tenor and tone of the clip
He did say that he’ll do some digital content now and then but take some time to figure his next move
UFC veteran Sam Alvey is living his best life under the Karate Combat banner as a double champion
In the main event of Karate Combat 54 in Dubai
Alvey put his heavyweight championship on the line against dangerous knockout artist Tyrone Spong
Alvey was a massive underdog at the betting window
Alvey landed a brutal combination to knock out Spong in the second round
Spong took control of the center of the pit right away
but neither put much power into their offerings as they settled in
Alvey would rip a couple of quick punching combinations before Spong responded with a hard punch to the body
After Alvey assured officials was good to continue
he started letting his hands go and connected with a beautiful right hand
followed by a left that sent Spong crashing to the mat
and referee Marc Goddard called a stop to the fight
During his post-fight interview, Alvey called out massive strongman competitor turned MMA fighter, Eddie Hall, who recently defeated Mariusz Pudzianowski at KSW 105 in just 30 seconds
Alvey currently holds the Karate Combat light heavyweight and heavyweight titles
Since exiting the UFC in 2022 after a nine-fight winless streak
Alvey has experienced a career resurgence in karate competition
Tyron Spong went 14-0 as a professional boxer after a very successful kickboxing career, but walked away from the game in 2019. Other than a brief return to MMA in 2022, the heavyweight knockout machine was pretty much gone from the spotlight. That all changes on May 2, when Surinamese-Dutch striker enters the Karate Combat pit for his first match in over three years, challenging Sam Alvey for the heavyweight belt
Speaking with MMA Fighting ahead of Karate Combat 54 in Dubai
Spong explained what lit up the competitive fire after so long
I’ve been doing it for over two decades and a lot of fights
try to get some stuff going because as we know you can’t keep fighting forever
there’s going to be a time where you either just don’t want to do it no more or can’t do it no more
I took that time off to focus on other aspects in life that needed some attention.”
watching his 16-year-old son fall in love with the art that has made his father so popular around the world was decisive to “awaken the competitive drive” in his heart
“I pray none of my kids would ever want to fight
but that’s all he wants to do,” Spong said
but I’m sure he experienced it differently at that young age
and that is one of my biggest motivations right now.”
“I’m going to fight this fight and go from there,” he added
“I’m gonna be active because I found joy again in the training
My plan is to be active and blast the scene again like I did in the past
success from the past is no guarantee for the future
Spong won’t have his son in Dubai because of the distance to the United States — and all the logistics involved in being the star of a fight week
and having to worry about those around you could be a distraction
“I might even be considered boring because I don’t like none of this shit
we live in different times now where society as a whole has changed
A lot of stupidity gets rewarded and the hard workers and the people that actually deserve it don’t
I don’t really give a shit because it’s me going in there to handle my business and do what I prepared myself for doing.”
Asked about today’s “stupidity” in combat sports
the 39-year-old veteran sounded not a fan of the always-growing trash talking trend in the game
It’s just not in my character,” Spong said
I come from a time when there was no social media like that
They’re very good and they also promote themselves very well
I think the best promotion you can do and have
but has been approached by other companies since
Karate Combat presented a unique style that got him interested
an experienced MMA fighter who left the UFC on a shocking nine-fight winless skid before turning his career around with a trio of wins at Karate Combat
As long as it’s a challenge and the people like it and I get paid
I just think it’s it’s a fresh breath of air now in the fight scene
The landscape of combat sports is ever changing every time and I think this is something that I that I like
I think it has a big future because the one thing you see when people watch MMA and UFC or whatever it is
when it goes to the ground and it gets stalled there
a man that has seen it all in rings across the globe
what would the Karate Combat belt feel like
I gotta go out there and win it first and then I think I can best answer that question,” Spong said
“But at the same time a title don’t mean sh*t to me
I don’t know how many belts I have at home
I’ve defeated a lot of big legends and champions in the game
maybe I’m too humble when it comes down to it
Some people might say I’m arrogant for saying that I’m a 10-time world champion
I’m just lucky I found something that I excel in and that I’m decent at
But winning a title doesn’t mean sh*t to me
and a 93 percent finishing rate as a boxer
Spong says there’s no secret as to how he expects to get it done versus Alvey in Dubai
but I’ve never predicted fights in my life because I don’t have a glass bowl

and his sudden exit leaves Ricky Bottalico as the final 'Best Show Ever?" host
Johnson shared the abrupt news on social media Friday evening in a short statement
Johnson told The Inquirer he was aware the move was coming
but didn’t know exactly when it would happen
Johnson began at The Fanatic in 2016 as a producer
including an exchange in 2020 that caused Missanelli to toss his headset in anger
After Missanelli’s sudden exit from the station in May 2022
a few months later with three cohosts: NBC Sports Philadelphia’s Ricky Bottalico
Program director Scott Masteller did not respond to a request for comment Friday evening
It does seem likely Missanelli will move back into his former timeslot. Since his return in August 2024
Missanelli has hosted the station’s midday show alongside Bill Colarulo
railed against the station’s management on social media following Johnson’s announcement
describing them as clueless and “overpaid.”
“No self awareness on the Titanic,” Egan wrote
“They just tell you “Talk Eagles” as they cut & cut & cut
Former boxing and kickboxing champion Tyrone Spong was a hot commodity in the combat sports space in the 2010’s
training with UFC stars at fBlackzilians and considering a move to MMA to join the UFC
He went 2-0 in the sport under the World Series of Fighting umbrella
but opted to pursue other avenues in kickboxing and boxing instead
A decade later, as he prepares for his Karate Combat title match with Sam Alvey in Dubai on May 2
Spong reflects on what his career could have been
“At that time, I had a good contact and meetings with the UFC, with Dana White,” Spong told MMA Fighting
I think by far he’s the best promoter in combat sports
which is a blessing and a curse at the same time because it makes you indecisive.”
all together,” Spong said of the time he had conversations with the UFC
I didn’t want that at that time because I had these other great options
the money and being stuck there was not worth it for me
Spong would consider going back to MMA in the future
but he’s now focused on competing for Karate Combat
“My last MMA fight I did from a long layoff
I’m all about challenging myself and defeating the odds
I’ve defeated the odds plenty of times and that’s the red line in my life and my drive
Fellow kickboxer Artem Vakhitov was the latest pure striker to consider leaving GLORY for MMA, chasing fellow opponent Alex Pereira to the octagon
He had a chance on Dana White’s Contender Series
but turned down the contract offered to instead return to GLORY to face their superstar Rico Verhoeven
“I understand the UFC runs their company according to a certain business model,” said Spong
who trained with Vakhitov before his DWCS fight
“I do think that there are some [exceptions]
they do some stuff differently for certain people
I think he beat their champion — or their ex-champion — once or twice
He wins the Contender Series and then you want to give him a contract on the same value of just every other guy
it was probably the right decision for him.”
doesn’t think that would have happened with him
“I’m pretty sure I would get a better offer from the UFC,” Spong said
“I believe so because I know what was offered to me years ago
I had so many options where I could do more and had more challenges and cement my legacy in combat sports in general that I opted not to take it at that time
and the successes that they have while I know that

Tyrone Johnson departed 97.5 the Fanatic on Friday afternoon
wrapping up a nine-year stint that saw him go from Mike Missanelli’s producer and co-host to PM drive lead anchor
Connor Thomas sat in the host chair alongside Ricky Bottalico
a temporary arrangement until Beasley installs a new host
current Fanatic leaders Scott Masteller and Paul Blake were not in charge when Missanelli first departed in 2022
The decision to launch The Best Show Ever? with Tyrone
and Hunter Brody was made by then-VP/Market Manager Joe Bell and Program Director Chuck Damico
Bell was let go in 2024 while Damico went back to his previous role with 93.3 WMMR
The first thought that comes to mind: is anybody left at 97.5 the Fanatic
It feels like they’ve cut the entire staff over there
The list doesn’t even include cluster-wide cuts at WMGK and other stations
and a number of hosts who filled weekends and nights and covered for vacations and other absences
Beasley has added pieces to replace the departures
and Sylvana Kelleher have been getting opportunities
Ricky Bo and Kevin Cooney are a net positive in the institutional knowledge department
Andrew DiCecco came in as the football guy and has been featured prominently
Bill Colarulo made a quick rise through the weekend ranks to find himself on middays
while Amy Fadool is still appearing occasionally on the airwaves
still relatively green when considering that this is one of the largest media markets in the country
When readers send us RADIO WARS emails and DMs
the one thing we hear more than anything is something along the lines of
“what’s the plan at the Fanatic?” They aren’t really sure what the station is trying to do
We know Beasley isn’t flush with money
so they can’t go out and make a splash and hire big radio names to come in and move the needle
They aren’t going out to get one of the Mike Golics
The result is a situation where the Fanatic doesn’t have an identity
If you insist on talking Eagles and “playing the hits,” you’re always going to be far behind WIP
but they have a defined and successful strategy
They are going to put a former Philadelphia Eagle in every time slot and bludgeon you to death with football until you are nothing but a bloody gridiron pulp
That works very well when you have the resources and the radio rights
why would I listen to the Fanatic at all? What Eagles talk do I get at the Fanatic that I don’t get at WIP
The only reason you’d choose the former for your Birds talk is if you like a specific host
how does the Fanatic find a lane of its own
They don’t have the Eagles rights or the Phillies rights
You could try to offer a product they don’t offer
That means you talk about all of the teams in the city and you expand the discussion to anything that listeners want to talk about
Maybe you try to find unique guests that WIP doesn’t
and make up for a nascent staff’s lack of deeper knowledge in that way
people like Jayson Stark and Brian Westbrook were frequent
and you see the value of the weekly Adam Schefter hit on the Kincade and Salciunas show
would probably agree that lining up more and better guests on a daily basis would be one way to bridge the gap and give listeners something different
they could lean more on their partnership with NBC Sports Philadelphia as a tool that WIP doesn’t have
It’s worked out well enough with Ricky Bo bringing his baseball knowledge to the station
Focus more on the Sixers and Flyers as the rights holder
The Sixers stink and hockey is difficult to talk about on the radio
The NBA is dramatic and interfaces very well with sports media in a number of ways
The media also knows nothing about hockey because very few of us actually played the sport
We can’t speak about it with much expertise or knowledge
but we can probably talk about LeBron and the Lakers and whether or not the Sixers should blow it up or run it back with the hobbled duo of Joel Embiid and Paul George
I also think the Fanatic would benefit from finding some older personalities who have been working in Philly sports for a minute and wouldn’t mind picking up the occasional part-time or weekend shift
WIP has always had that stable of Rickie Ricardo
etc – guys who have been around the block and just have a good
general knowledge of Philly sports history
Glen Macnow and Ray Didinger held down weekend mornings for a long time
and you can still turn on WIP on a Saturday or Sunday night knowing that there’s a veteran in the seat who can talk a little bit of everything
The Fanatic has Dei Lynam and Kevin Cooney for that right now
but could beef up that portion of the roster without breaking the bank
They don’t have a lot of money and a lot of options
You’re not going to beat WIP at their own game
and try to make enough money off 4.0 and 3.5 Nielsen numbers
let’s roll the dice here and try something different“
97.5 the Fanatic’s Tyrone Johnson tweeted this Friday evening:
— Tyrone Johnson (@TyJohnsonNews) April 25, 2025
This is Tyrone telling everyone that he’s out at the Fanatic after a little less than three years hosting The Best Show Ever
We’re told that Tyrone was well aware of Beasley’s plan to cut ties and that the decision to do so was made last year
There was audible chatter regarding a PM drive shakeup as decision makers over there interviewed possible replacements
Johnson was Mike Missanelli’s producer and co-host up until 2022
He was promoted to the main anchor chair to lead a program that included Jen Scordo
Brody was laid off less than a year later and found a new gig at WIP
The show’s most recent lineup included Johnson
Ratings were relatively solid during Johnson’s main host run
has consistently outperformed or finished level with the morning and midday shows in Nielsen’s men 25-54 demographic
The show was well behind 94 WIP’s afternoon show
but performed better than most Fanatic time slots
Johnson’s elevation took place near the end of former market manager Joe Bell’s tenure
The station is now run by Program Director Scott Masteller and Vice President/Cluster Manager Paul Blake
We got in touch with Tyrone and asked if he wanted to share anything:
“Honestly just that I’m sorry I couldn’t deliver a better product for the people who supported me and I look forward to entertaining them again.” – Tyrone Johnson
We’ll add more details to the story as necessary
fellow former Fanatic host Pat Egan said this:
Wonder if the program director had the guts this time to at least do it himself

Home | Tyrone Minors Bounce Back To Claim Ulster Shield
Tyrone minors responded in style to last week’s All-Ireland heartbreak with a dominant display against Donegal to lift the Ulster Minor Shield on home soil in Edendork
The Red Hands got off to a flying start with Emer Cunningham opening the scoring from play
Catherine Moohan quickly added two more points—one from a pass by Amy Holmes and the second from a free—as Tyrone took early control despite challenging conditions caused by a strong crossfield wind
Goalkeeper Hollie Croucher was alert to any Donegal threat
clearing several dangerous balls and helping to maintain her side’s early advantage
With Moohan and Clíona O’Reilly driving Tyrone forward
Donegal managed just a single free in the first half
added further points and a well-worked goal following a slick move involving captain Niamh McElduff and Ellen Gillen
managers Sean Moohan and Kevin Cunningham utilised their squad to full effect
Moohan and Cunningham continued to impress
with the latter producing a standout score after a turnover and surging solo run
a regular goal-scorer throughout the season
and McElduff capped a fine captain’s performance with a goal of her own
sealing a comprehensive win and ensuring Tyrone ended their campaign with a well-earned piece of silverware

TYRONE — The accolades are many for Tyrone native Harry Sickler
“He is probably the greatest man I have ever met,” said Jim Roseberry
a long-time friend and former chairman of the Tyrone Monogram Club
“He has done so much for the Tyrone community
I can’t think of another person who has done more for Tyrone and central Pennsylvania than him,” Roseberry said
Those sentiments were echoed by John Franco
“There was no single person who contributed more to the Tyrone community than Harry
He was involved in every aspect of the community,” Franco said
Sickler is being remembered as a fantastic person who didn’t want any credit
“He would help but didn’t want to be in the limelight,” Franco said
“He has left a legacy second to none throughout Tyrone and the Blair County community.”
said Sickler loved the community and did everything with very little fanfare
you can’t find anything without saying Harry’s name.”
Respect for Sickler “was an automatic thing,” Banas said
Sicker was probably best known as a businessman and community supporter
including the Lifetime Achievement Award for Business Excellence from the Blair County Chamber of Commerce in 2017
Sickler was well known as founder of his CPA firm — now known as Sickler
Tarpey and Associates — as well as the founder and longtime owner of the Bull Pen Restaurant
“I started working with Harry in 1992
Harry cared about his clients and was never afraid to make an investment if it benefited Tyrone,” said partner Randy Tarpey
“We worked well together and never had any significant disagreement.”
Sickler was instrumental in the reopening of the Tyrone paper mill as American Eagle Paper Mills in 2003
“He was my partner at Team Ten American Eagle Paper Mills
He was a strong advocate for me and the paper mill
His sole purpose of getting involved was to restore jobs in Tyrone,” said Clark Adelman
vice president of finance and administration
said Sickler was a “great partner in good times and bad.”
Devorris said Sickler came to every meeting with smart questions about the company’s financials and made sure to always look at the big picture
“He had a long-term business outlook and always looked for the best outcome for everyone — employees
customers and vendors,” Devorris said of Sickler
“I’ve known and worked with Harry for over 30 years and really spent time with him at American Eagle over the past decade,” he said
Harry was always the first to offer to help and came up with funds when they were needed most.”
noting he said that companies could only prosper if the community prospered
Sickler was a member of many local organizations
He was a key fundraiser for Tyrone Hospital and helped save the institution from bankruptcy in the 1960s
He was also a key player with the Tyrone Improvement Corporation and was a co-founder of the Jobs for Joes program
which helped attract new companies to the area
He was also one of the founders of the Sinking Valley Country Club and was the founder of the Tyrone Monogram Club
retired president/CEO of Altoona Blair County Development Corp.
first met Sickler in 1972 on a project to provide updated infrastructure in the Tyrone Industrial Park
Sickler served on the board of directors of the Tyrone Improvement Corp.
and was a vital and long-standing member of the Blair County Industrial Development Authority and the Blair County General Authority
knowledge and commitment to these organizations was invaluable,” Marasco said
“He constantly gave of his time and provided resources for the betterment of the organizations and the programs and projects that they advanced.”
Marasco said Sickler’s contributions to economic and community development were first class
full of knowledge and a very sharing and caring person — he sacrificed a lot for the benefit of others,” Marasco said
Athletics played a big role in Sickler’s life as well
He was a Notre Dame graduate and a longtime fan of the Fighting Irish
That’s how he met Dick Brothers of Mishawaka
“I met Harry when I came in for the Penn State game in 1981
He was a very thoughtful man; if you were a friend of Harry’s
you never had to worry about having a friend,” Brothers said
noting he knows how much the Tyrone community meant to Sickler
Sickler was instrumental in bringing Franco in as Tyrone Area High School football coach in 1994
“He was like my football father,” Franco said
“He was always there to help the school board and community,” Franco said
“He has meant so much to the football program’s success
Sickler was inducted into the Tyrone Wrestling Hall of Fame and was recognized in 2005 as a TASD Distinguished Alumni
“He did so many things behind the scenes to make Tyrone a better place and never brought attention to them
Tyrone and Notre Dame football,” said Tyrone native John Harlow
If we were to put everyone who was touched by Harry together
and it would be standing room only.”
Retired Tyrone Area School District Superintendent William Miller said Sickler was an outstanding individual
“If you were looking at someone who made an impact in education and in the community
It was incredible what this gentleman has done for this community and school
I have more respect for Harry Sickler than anyone; it was great to work with him for about 50 years,” Miller said
executive director of the Tyrone Area Chamber of Commerce
called Sickler a great asset to Tyrone and a friend of many businesses
“He was always there to provide leadership
He was instrumental in getting things up and running
he contributed to everything,” Black said
Roseberry called Sickler an incredible guy
“He did everything he could for the community of Tyrone
Harry was there when anyone needed anything
He got people involved and moved things along,” Roseberry said
“We will miss him,” Franco said

Deputies arrived at a home on the 6400 block of Emerald Dunes Drive
near Okeechobee Boulevard and Florida's Turnpike
they said they saw Alonzo Riser stabbing his father with a sword
A spokesperson for the sheriff's office said a deputy shot Alonzo Riser after he ignored commands to drop the sword
The agency said deputies rendered medical aid to both men
Tyrone Riser asked a judge to appoint him as Alonzo Riser's legal guardian in October — a standard procedure for parents of young adults with autism
Tyrone could make decisions regarding his son's health
Attorney Melva Harris-Rozier represented Tyrone Riser through the Legal Aid Society's veterans advocacy project
She described him as “a father who loved his son
“He really went above and beyond to make sure his son had everything he needed,” Harris-Rozier said
The attorney said Tyrone’s application and the proceedings that followed were standard
devoid of any indication of violence or aggression
Circuit Judge Charles Burton appointed a committee to help determine whether Alonzo Riser could make decisions for himself
they called the teenager vulnerable and recommended that he "continue course living with father."
Burton granted Tyrone Riser’s request in December
On a GoFundMe page seeking donations to assist with funeral expenses and the care of Alonzo Riser's 14-year-old sister
a relative shared childhood photos of the 20-year-old and of his veteran father
"Our family is now left grieving an unimaginable loss and trying to find a way forward through the pain," wrote Mariah Boyd Lawson
"We are now facing the overwhelming task of laying both my father and brother to rest with dignity
while also preparing to care for and support my sister's future," she said
"We were not prepared for something like this

the Shapiro administration is making the case for more funding to support rural hospitals
Representatives from the state's Department of Health
Department of Human Services and Penn Highlands Healthcare spoke Tuesday at Penn Highlands Tyrone
“Rural hospitals have been facing substantial cost increases for labor
coupled with inadequate reimbursement rates and ongoing staffing shortages," said Trina Abla
the Penn Highlands Healthcare chief medical officer
he’s asking for $10 million to expand a student loan repayment program for health care providers in rural communities
he’s asking for a 9% increase from last year
State Republicans have criticized the governor’s budget proposal
saying a large increase could eliminate the state’s emergency savings and create the need for tax increases on Pennsylvania families
the state’s Department of Human Services secretary
said increasing funding to rural hospitals is “common sense.”
“Rural hospitals are the lifeblood of rural communities
and so it is a wise investment to invest in health care in your communities," Arkoosh said
the secretary for the state’s Department of Health
said she is hopeful for an agreement to send more funding to struggling rural hospitals
Rural hospitals are part of the economic growth of a community," Bogen said
A final agreement on the state budget is due by June 30, but state lawmakers have missed the deadline for the past three years

Dallas police responded to a report that an 18-year-old woman had been sexually assaulted
Her written account of the attack said that she and a friend were walking in the Fair Park neighborhood when a Black man approached
he forced her into a nearby apartment where the man and two other men sexually assaulted her
19-year-old Tyrone Day happened to walk by
Day and indicated he was one of her attackers
was taken to Parkland Hospital where a sexual assault kit was prepared and her clothing was collected
he pleaded guilty in Dallas County Criminal District Court
Day agreed to plead guilty after his defense attorney said he would likely be released on parole after four years in prison
Day was experiencing significant health issues and had two young daughters
Day repeatedly sought to prove his innocence and sought legal help
his petitions seeking DNA testing were denied after the Dallas County District Attorney’s Office
as was the practice of the office at that time
after Dallas County District Attorney Craig Watkins created a Conviction Integrity Unit (CIU)
Innocence Project Attorney Vanessa Potkin and the CIU agreed to submit the sexual assault kit and A.C.’s clothing for DNA testing
the DNA profiles of two unknown men as well as the low-level profile of a third male were identified
Day was excluded as the source of all three of the profiles
One profile was suitable to upload into the FBI’s Combined DNA Index System (CODIS)
which contained nearly 20 million DNA profiles
The database search pointed to the DNA profile of a man (R.W.)
and it turned out to be consistent with one of the other two unidentified DNA profiles
2015 — more than 26 years after he was arrested
the CIU conducted three interviews with A.C
with the assistance of a certified American Sign Language interpreter
she had provided sex but did not get the drugs
and so she felt she was the victim of a sexual assault
he was on an upstairs breezeway of an apartment complex
and she was about 50 feet away in a police car
Dallas County Criminal District Judge Carter Thompson agreed to joint findings of fact in a petition for a writ of habeas corpus presented by CIU chief Cynthia Garza
Gary Udashen of the Innocence Project of Texas
in recommending that the findings be adopted by the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals
Day was prosecuted “based on false and inaccurate evidence.”
the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals granted the writ and vacated Mr
Day had studied horticulture at Trinity Valley Community College
he thanked the CIU and the Innocence Project
but I never lost faith that my innocence would be proven,” Mr
“Today I am focused on my family and my passion for sustainable farming
I was born and raised in South Dallas and the opportunity to bring fresh produce here
and train the next generation of farmers is so meaningful to me.”

Former UFC middleweight Sam Alvey just knocked out Tyrone Spong
Alvey spent many years as a part of the UFC roster
While he picked up a handful of impressive wins in the Octagon
he is best known for the massive losing streak that ended his time with the promotion
and battling South Korea’s Da Woon Jung to a split draw in the middle of his skid
most fans were ready to declare Alvey washed
the 38-year-0ld American clearly still has plenty to give
Expectations were fairly low for how he’d perform in the striking promotion
he was 3-0 in the Karate Combat “Pit” — including a heavyweight title win
That streak set him for a title defense opposite Spong
Suriname’s Spong is a true legend of the kickboxing ring
notably winning the the WBC and WBO Latino heavyweight titles in 2018
and nearly fighting current unified champ Oleksandr Usyk the following year — though that plan fell through
the 38-year-old kickboxing legend Spong should have demolished Alvey
Watch Sam Alvey knock out Tyrone Spong below
Heads up: you may have to watch it a few times to believe what you’re watching

— UFC FIGHT PASS (@UFCFightPass) May 2, 2025
it seems just about impossible that Sam Alvey will return to the Octagon
he has clearly found a home in Karate Combat
His contract with the promotion will be up soon
but given that he holds the heavyweight belt
they will need to seek out some fresh challengers for him
There are certainly no shortage of options
The promotion could even call upon one of the men who beat Alvey in the UFC
to give their unlikely champion a shot at redemption
