CVS will be closing yet another store next month
The pharmacy chain is in the process of shutting 900 locations by the end of 2024
CVS is closing its store in Upper Alton, Illinois in a matter of weeks
situated at the intersection of Washington and College
In a statement shared with The Telegraph
spokesperson Amy Thibualt called the closure a “difficult decision.”
She said the chain considers various factors in closing a store
and ensuring there are other geographic access points to meet the needs of the community."
All employees are being offered comparable roles within the company.
Locals can also find another CVS store located inside the Schnuck’s grocery store in Alton.
Two other stand-alone CVS locations remain in the area, one in East Alton, around four miles away, and one in Jerseyville, around 20 miles away.
CVS announced it would begin closing around 300 stores a year through 2024

It is one of several big-name chains being affected by the so-called “retail apocalypse.”
Since the pandemic, companies like Bed Bath and Beyond, Tuesday Morning, and David’s Bridal have all closed a large number of stores
Even rival pharmacies such as Walgreens and Rite Aid have fallen victim to mass closures
Things got so bad for Rite Aid that the company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy last week
At least 30 Rite Aid locations have already closed this year
