According to their website - Year founded: 1967\r\n- Original location: Dedham Massachusetts\r\n- Number of locations: 85\r\n- Current states: Connecticut D'Angelo has been a New England sandwich staple for decades serving up grilled hot and deli sandwiches But the name took some time—founders Brian J McLaughlin and Jay Howland opened Ma Riva's Sub Shop before changing it to Angelo Sub Shop which sounded a bit too close to a chain of supermarkets in the area The owners added the \"D\" in D'Angelo in 1978 to stand for \"delicious,\" which is an understatement when biting into one of their famous Steak and Cheese sandwiches D'Angelo would process over 50,000 pounds of steak weekly to keep up with the demand The PB&J is a quintessentially American sandwich, but it's simply not as ubiquitous in other countries. Part of the reason is that peanut butter has been historically difficult to find in countries like Argentina and the Philippines where there just isn't a big appetite for the product Last month the iconic Guy Fieri of The Food Network and the host of the famous show Diners Drive-Ins and Dives pulled his iconic red convertible to the historic Vincentown Diner in Southampton Township and could not stop eating the mile-high meatloaf The Vincentown Diner is a classic diner that originally opened in 1953 then moved to a new bigger location in 1979 and had restaurant upgrades and management changes but the wonderful quality of the comfort food never changed and has only gotten better What is impressive about the Vincentown Diner menu is that there is a “normal” number of choices on the menu because it would be impossible to have 100 fresh farm-to-table choices to serve the standard diner here in New Jersey has a substantial number of choices but you know that not every dish on that menu is fresh or farm-to-table The Vincentown Diner uses produce from local area farms they have local craft beers and serve local area vintage wines They make their dishes from scratch and serve them as fresh as they can be The effort that goes into the meatloaf is amazing and peppers with a meatloaf sauce that is made with ketchup The meatloaf goes in the oven and a few minutes before it is pulled out After they pull the meatloaf out of the oven they slice two thick pieces and put them on the flat grill so they get some texture then after they’re done they add a scoop of their homemade mashed potatoes add more potatoes and the second slice of meatloaf and top it with the homemade gravy water and this cooks for about 7 hours then it’s drained and a roux is made with butter vegetables and it’s emulsified with the stock being added and the gravy ends up thick and very flavorful They add the gravy to the “mile-high” meatloaf and top it with frizzled onions but I wanted to point out the effort and process of making a classic meatloaf That is the effort that The Vincentown Diner puts into every dish This is a must-stop and a destination for incredibly good homemade scratch farm-to-table dishes The post above reflects the thoughts and observations of New Jersey 101.5 weekend host Big Joe Henry Any opinions expressed are Big Joe’s own Discover the Vincentown Diner's commitment to fresh ingredients and homemade dishes.\nRead More — A fire engine was unable to assist with a dwelling fire after it collided with a tree.  Vincentown Fire Company's Tender 1716 was responding to a dwelling fire in Medford Township just after 9 a.m As the fire engine was making a turn at the intersection of Church Road and Eayrestown Road it was slid off the roadway and into a tree after it encountered a soft shoulder the fire department said in a Facebook post The Lumberton Township Fire Department and Lumberton Emergency Squad assisted at the scene.  "We are extremely thankful that all three volunteer firefighters were treated and released with little to no injuries," the post said.  The incident remains under investigation by the Medford Township Police Department George Woolston is a South Jersey native who covers several topics for the Burlington County Times. Food Network's website) a group of Rutgers University-Newark geophysics students descended upon Vincentown Friends Cemetery on Saturday morning Their mission: To conduct a preliminary survey of the 200-year-old Quaker cemetery as part of the Southampton Historical Society’s efforts to restore the historic site “The historical society is working on a plan to give to the township to keep this a historical site,” said Bob Ritter president of the Southampton Historical Society located behind the Grange Hall at Main and Grange streets is within the Vincentown historical district but has not received much attention over the years other than general groundskeeping Ritter and his group are hoping to change that with the help of volunteers Ritter was doing some online research when he came upon a contact in the Rutgers University Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences in Newark which in turn put him in touch with geophysics doctorate candidate Ashley Samuel a member of the Rutgers-Newark student chapter of the Society of Exploration Geophysics (SEG) recruited fellow SEG members and doctorate and undergrad colleagues to make the trek south to Vincentown and spend the better part of Saturday surveying hundred-year-old grave sites Looking like a scene from “Ghostbusters,” the students used high-tech equipment to perform a non-invasive subsurface search of the one-acre cemetery grounds in an effort to identify possible grave sites “We decided it would be a great SEG project,” Samuel said “It’s a good experience for everyone involved and give us a chance to use the equipment.” The group used three pieces of equipment in its initial surveying of the site: a ground-penetrating radar (GPR); an EM31 electro-magnetic ground conductivity meter The data will then be analyzed back in Newark to determine significant soil disturbances which would indicate possible burial sites “If we see a lot of signals within an unmarked area and consistent features that may indicate grave sites,” said Gordon Osterman a doctorate student from the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences at Rutgers–Newark the group plans to use a more precise research method such as electrical resistivity tomography (ERT) which can more accurately identify the cause of the disturbance The land on which the cemetery is located was purchased by the Mount Holly Quaker Friends Meeting in 1781 A brick meetinghouse was built to replace the original wooden building in 1813 Phinehas Atkinson was the first to be buried in the cemetery in 1812 Some notables buried on the site include Sally Stretch Keen Historical society member Sandy Glenn and her sister have spent the past three decades identifying who is buried in the cemetery and where they are buried to mark the 87 known burials in the cemetery “We would really like to see some volunteers help reset some of the stones,” Ritter said the engravings are hardly legible anymore as time and the elements have weathered the site Ritter said he hopes to someday have a centrally located monument in the cemetery listing the names of all those buried there The municipality bought the cemetery a few years back and installed partial black iron fencing near the Grange building Ritter said the society’s goal is to continue the fencing around the perimeter of the cemetery and to install an arbor-like entrance with a sign identifying the cemetery “We have always had a very good relationship with the township,” said Ritter’s wife and fellow historical society member “It has fostered the ability to do this project.” Her husband plans to address the findings of the survey with the township to garner further support for the cemetery’s plight “I hope we get a better understanding of where the graves are,” Ritter said “and then we can present a plan to the township.” The Rancocas Valley Baseball League kicks off its 67th summer of men’s semipro baseball Monday night — weather permitting — when Delran visits Harry Thompson Field to take on defending champion Vincentown in a rematch of the 2012 playoff finals This is also the start of the 116th consecutive summer of baseball in the county starting with the Burlington County League There are always roster changes in this type of league and that’s again the case in the RVL this year Taking over for the retired Rocky Petrone at Delran will be a combination of veteran pitchers Eric Gertie and Jason Ronca Two other changes will see former coach John Veterano trade jobs with former manager Gerry Lamola at Pine Barrens and Mike Hynes and Matt Mann are now in charge of Riverside The nine-team league will again play a 32-game regular season with each team facing the others four times Following the regular season in early August will be the playoffs to decide the 2013 RVL champion The eighth- and ninth-place teams will play a play-in game with the survivor meeting the regular-season champs in a best-of-3 quarterfinal series The other quarterfinal pairings are second place vs The Burlington Mets were regular-season champions in 2012 But they were upset in the semifinals by the Vincentown Merchants who then swept Delran for their 13th RVL playoff championship Here are the 2013 opening-day rosters (in order of 2012 finish): Comments: Last year’s regular-season champs (27-3-2) return pitchers Shaun Babula Infielder Dave Jost returns after a year’s absence Comments: This was an offseason of major changes for Cinnaminson although the club’s brotherly base — the Osbornes Sirollis and Wascos — will keep them near the top Goodwin topped the staff in 2012 with seven wins And CF Ryan McFadden can track ‘em down with the best Comments: There hasn’t been a repeat playoff champion since Delran in 2007-08 But the Merchants have a history of making their championships back-to-back — 1953-54 Pepper is coming off a summer when he hit .416 with 13 extra-base hits Comments: If you were looking for a sleeper to break up the RVL’s “Big Four,” Mount Laurel has basically the same team as last summer Kevin (Meat) Diamond slugged .452 last summer Comments: The WBC had some significant offseason losses who hit .433 last summer with a 4-3 record and 1.24 ERA pitching Comments: The Phantoms are another team that could break through this summer .387) and Powelson (.342) had solid 2012 campaigns The team will hold a fundraiser June 1 at Throwbacks Bar and Grill on Route 130 in Delran Cost is $12 for all the wings (soda included) you can handle between 4 and 6 p.m Comments: The first-year Pirates were scrappy all last summer and look to improve during their second season Feret proved to be a solid center fielder and hit .397 Dozens of people walked around downtown Mount Holly Sunday afternoon stunned by floodwaters that made their way onto Mill Street A young boy even swam in the floods brought by Hurricane Irene which were too much for the north branch of the Rancocas Creek to contain or just stared at the new landscape of the downtown area a member of the township's emergency management team said flooding was experienced on several streets in town and Washington streets and Mount Holly Avenue The municipal parking lot off Washington Street was flooded and "two feet of water" had made it into the police headquarters at the municipal building Hollowell said A mandatory evacuation of Monroe Street was ordered and electric service to the area was to be cut off by 4 p.m was shocked at the level waters reached by 2:30 p.m It's like a waterfall," James said of flooding in the basement of her apartment Crews were out patrolling the neighborhood and Hollowell pointed out that the creek was not expected to peak until 4:30 p.m and neighbor Kari Good were preparing to evacuate and gathering belongings "I'm just waiting for them to turn the electric off," Fels said Floodwaters were already in their yards and on the roadway by afternoon who has owned a property on Monroe Street for seven years was helping her tenants pack up belongings so they could get out on time Duclos said she intended to help them find shelter In the Vincentown section of Southampton the scene was similar as residents gathered to look at the expanded south branch of the Rancocas Creek "It could have been a lot worse," Bray said as he toured Saw Mill Park off Race Street with his dog "I think we dodged a bullet here," said Rose Mulcahy of Red Lion Road and when it’s all over in a couple of weeks the champion of the 67th Rancocas Valley Baseball League season will have been crowned it would seem that a Vincentown-Burlington final is the most likely scenario The Merchants (24-5) and Mets (23-4-1) were by far the best teams during the regular season Saturday and Sunday will feature eight games in a two-day back-to-back-to-back-to-back four-games-each-day extravaganza at Vincentown’s Harry Thompson Field with Riverside facing Mount Laurel and Delran meeting Willingboro at 4 p.m The day’s final game pits Cinnaminson against Vincentown at 7 p.m The same teams play in the same order Sunday Play will continue through the next two weeks with weeknight games at either 6:30 and 9 (if doubleheaders) The quarterfinals and semifinals are best of three {p style=”text-align: center;”}Here’s a look at each of the teams Troy Foster and Dan Williams form the league’s most feared lineup And don’t forget Kevin Carty and Vern Powell Zeke Boren and Jon Morrow are a combined 21-4 {p style=”text-align: left;”}Playoff history: Defending champions and 13-time RVL champs Hitting: Shaun Niagara Firemen in 1951 Hitting: 2b Mark Stumpf is one of the league’s elite players Connor Macfarlane and Mike Juckett provide lots of quality innings Playoff history: Won RVL regular-season title in batted in than we have runs scored.” the slugging third baseman for the Vincentown Merchants (Pro-rated over a major league 162-game season that’s the equivalent of an unthinkable 313!) In a distant second and third place are V-town teammates Jesse Pappler with 22 and Sam Pepper with 20 The Merchants’ style of play is similar to the old Gas-House Gorillas of Looney Tunes cartoon fame And he’s just one of many reasons the Gorillas Merchants have steamrolled through the RVL with a 21-3 record I’ll tell you that,’’ longtime Vincentown coach Harry Thompson said “I can’t believe he hasn’t been signed by somebody.” Miller also leads the league in average (.488) And the fourth-year RVLer also plays a smooth third base and is one of the league’s top relievers (11 K’s in 8 innings and a 1.75 ERA) is all no surprise to people who followed South Jersey baseball a decade ago Miller handled shortstop all four years at Hammonton High School started at shortstop for the Cape-Atlantic League’s Carpenter Cup team as a junior and senior and was MVP of the North-South All-Star Game (The Shamong native went to Hammonton because his father worked there and his older sister Kristin had gone there.) He was widely regarded as the top player in South Jersey until a guy named Mike Trout came onto the scene the following spring where he started at third base as a freshman played right field as a sophomore and then a right field-pitcher on weekends hybrid hitting .340 and earning second team all-Big East He was picked as a pitcher (he clocked 97 mph in college) in the 10th round of the 2008 MLB draft by the Milwaukee Brewers But the pro career was short-lived when Miller suffered a torn ligament in his elbow and was released by the Brewers Thompson was Harry-on-the-spot and Miller soon found himself wearing the red and white of the Merchants “I ended up in the RVL because I wanted to play ball as soon as I could But he also spent part of that season getting “fixed up” after a battle with pain killers that had started around the time of his elbow injury “I got hooked on them and it really affected my career and my work ethic as a professional ball player,” Miller said “My first couple years in the RVL I had to leave for rehab ‘Enough is enough.’ It’s been a crazy road but it’s made me who I am as a person and it’s taught me to appreciate life so much more.” Thompson couldn’t be happier to have 6-foot-4 He even mentions the 26-year-old in the same sentence with former Merchants greats like Johnny Conrad who has been with the Merchants since 1947 and knows from where he speaks I don’t know why somebody hasn’t picked him up.” he is happy doing what he’s doing — taking online classes at Burlington County College getting ready to finish school at Drexel this fall and also doing whatever it takes to bring another title to Vincentown “I wanted to get myself healthy to help the Merchants win another championship,” Miller said But we’ve got the weekend off and we’ll be rejuvenated and ready to win back-to-back titles “I’m still trying to get back into pro ball I worked out with the Reds and Royals last winter and almost signed with the Reds but at some point I’ve got to move forward Vincentown Diner located at the intersection of Routes 206 & 38 has just re-opened after weeks of being closed due to the Coronavirus pandemic The popular diner sent out an email to its loyalty members last week announcing the good news Vincentown Diner said it would be open from 11am-8pm for curbside pickup "to go" orders Vincentown Diner isn't your typical diner you can get all of the standard diner favorites like pancakes But you can also get things like Asian Dumplings By the way, the "standard" offerings aren't necessarily standard either.
