After three hurricanes hit the state in 2024
Florida lawmakers Friday gave final approval to a bill that would make changes involving issues such as debris removal and rebuilding storm-damaged homes
The House voted 106-0 and the Senate voted 34-1 to approve the bill (SB 180)
“This bill is meant to help those folks in the future that are going through their darkest hours because
we know that we're going to continue to have hurricanes,” Rep
would require local governments each year to set in advance at least one debris-management site; to develop plans for businesses and homeowners about post-storm permitting processes; to establish what are known as mutual-aid agreements to bring in help from elsewhere; and to set plans for staffing after storms
Local governments also would be prohibited from increasing building-permit and inspection fees for 180 days after emergencies are declared for hurricanes or tropical storms
The bill also would seek to prevent a repeat of an incident where a crane collapsed into a St
Petersburg office building when Hurricane Milton slammed into the area last year
The bill would require that 24 hours before anticipated hurricane impacts
all hoisting equipment would have to be secured to comply with manufacturer recommendations
laying down fixed booms and setting towers in a “weathervane position.”
An earlier version of the bill also dealt with the authority of elections supervisors to make changes after storms
but that issue was removed from the final measure
said those issues could be addressed in the 2026 legislative session
This year’s six-month hurricane season will start June 1

— A North Carolina Superior Court judge denied a preliminary injunction Wednesday that Legacy Motor Club sought to keep Rick Ware Racing from possibly selling the charter that Legacy MC states it purchased
lasted nearly three hours before Judge Clifton H
At issue is what charter Legacy MC purchased from Rick Ware Racing and when they would have access to it
Judge Smith noted that Legacy MC purchased a charter from Rick Ware Racing for “roughly $45 million.” That makes it the highest price for a charter
The agreement calls for Rick Ware Racing to sell Charter No
Legacy MC’s attorney noted that the wording in the contract described the charter to be purchased as Charter 27
which also is owned by Rick Ware Racing but is being leased to RFK Racing this year for the No
An attorney for Rick Ware Racing said two weeks after the agreement was signed the two sides met at Las Vegas where Legacy MC offered to pay RWR $5 million more than the orginial purchase price to purchase Charter 27 so it could have three chartered cars next season
It was also noted in court that RFK Racing has an agreement with Rick Ware Racing to lease Charter 36 (the one being used by Cody Ware this year) next season
Teams are allowed to lease a charter once every seven years
A key issue Wednesday in court was the contract and the confusion created by it
said in court that the wrong charter number in the agreement was a result of what Rick Ware told the attorney writing the contract
said in court that Ware always intended to sell Charter 36 (being used by Cody Ware this season in the No
51) and didn’t intend to sell the charter used by RFK Racing
“I don’t think this contract makes any sense,” Marcus said in court “ … It’s chalk full of mistakes.”
Forst said the contract suggests otherwise
“It is crystal clear that this purchase agreement covers (Charter) 27 and not 36
not withstanding the misidentification of the number,” Forst said in court
“… We wanted the charter that is being currently leased (Charter 27).”
Marcus went through a timeline in the court of key moments in the deal
He stated that a text on March 3 shows Ware’s understanding that the contract is for Charter 36 and that the deal was signed
Legacy MC went to NASCAR to inform officials they had an agreement to purchase a charter
they knew that Charter 36 is the charter that was meant to be used by RFK Racing next year.”
He noted the March 15 meeting in Las Vegas when Legacy MC upped its offer by $5 million to get Charter 27 to race it next year
Marcus said that “selling Charter 27 puts Rick Ware Racing out of business,” noting that it would leave RWR without a charter for next season since there is an agreement with RFK Racing for it to lease Charter 36 next season
The two sides were in court Wednesday because Legacy MC had a temporary restraining order granted but wanted to make it a preliminary injunction to ensure that Rick Ware Racing didn’t sell Charter 27 elsewhere
Ware said in a statement: “RWR is gratified by the Court’s decision in this case
said of Wednesday’s decision: “Part of the journey.”

A tough start to the weekend for Cody Ware and Rick Ware Racing. The No. 51 Ford failed pre-race inspection twice. As a result, the team loses pit stall selection and their car chief for the rest of the NASCAR weekend at Texas
This season has not been great for Cody Ware
Rick Ware Racing has been doing a good job of pulling in sponsors for this season
It is clear that the team doesn’t have the same speed they had at the end of last year
In the grand scheme of things, this penalty isn’t going to matter much
Ware is probably going to finish in that P25 to P35 finish
The NASCAR Cup Series pre-race inspection is complete at Texas Motor Speedway.Th No
51 car chief Dave Jones has been ejected for remainder of this event and the 51 has lost pit selection for this event
But that is how this NASCAR weekend has kicked off at Texas in the first place
Rain has put a wet blanket on Friday’s plans
Both the Truck and Xfinity Series have practice and qualifying canceled due to the weather today
NASCAR fans are dying for an exciting race weekend
Will Texas deliver that after a month of tough races
The water just wouldn’t quit coming out of the walls. So, the NASCAR Xfinity Series at Texas will not have qualifying. Austin Hill, the winner from Talladega, will lead the field to green from the pole.
Austin Hill has been doing great this season. He has three wins on the season, and a couple of them have been a bit lucky. Can he get his fourth win of the season at Texas?

The rain came through today and just soaked the track. What they call weepers, water leaking out of the SAFER barrier walls and the cracks in the track, keep showing up. So, we’re going to go straight into racing tomorrow for the NASCAR Xfinity race at Texas.
Justin Allgaier, Jesse Love, Jeb Burton, Harrison Burton, Sheldon Creed, Sam Mayer, Matt DeBenedetto, Daniel Dye, and Anthony Alfredo make up the rest of the top-10 for tomorrow’s race. A few of these drivers would love to get a win at Texas.
Despite the qualifying session being canceled, Katherine Legge made the race. She made it in while two drivers, CJ McLaughlin and Dawson Cram, had to go home with only 38 spots available.
Now we get ready for the Truck Series race tonight. It should be a fun event to watch. This series has put on great racing in the last year.

The United States Postal Service (USPS) is celebrating its 250th anniversary this July and for the Sestercentennial will be issuing stamps commemorating the occasion:
the Second Continental Congress established a postal system for the United Colonies and appointed Benjamin Franklin as the first postmaster general
Postal Service today announced two stamp issues to celebrate its 250th anniversary
One of the issues has famed cartoonist Chris Ware designing and illustrating the pane
From the U.S. Postal Service:
is a pane of 20 stamps by cartoonist Chris Ware that invites the public to spot a fun array of familiar postal items and icons while following a mail carrier on her rounds through four seasons of the year [emphasis added]
Both sets will be released in July of 2025
Also possible for July 2025:
Postal Service today filed notice with the Postal Regulatory Commission (PRC) of mailing services price changes to take effect July 13
The new rates include a 5-cent increase in the price of a First-Class Mail Forever stamp from 73 cents to 78 cents
So Chris Ware’s “250 Years of Delivering” will probably reach my local post office in the last half of July (they usually arrive here about a week after first-day-of-issue) and may have the higher price tag
“May” because there are efforts to move the postal service into private for-profit hands and the powers that be could deny the price increase to drive the post office into more dire straits than they have already
Postal Service unveiled stamps based on artwork from the classic children’s book “Goodnight Moon” at The Rabbit hOle
a museum that brings to life a century of American children’s literature
including the book’s iconic Great Green Room
“These nostalgic stamps not only celebrate the timeless charm of ‘Goodnight Moon’ but also highlight the enduring relevance of both stamps and children’s literature in a digital age,” said Lisa Bobb-Semple
the Postal Service’s stamp services director
“The enthusiastic response from the public about these stamps has been exciting — a reminder that the joy of stamps continues to inspire all generations.”
Written by Margaret Wise Brown with artwork by Clement Hurd
“Goodnight Moon” revolutionized children’s publishing when it debuted in 1947
Today, May 2, 2025, is the first-day-of-issue for the Postal Service’s Goodnight Moon stamps.
Elsewhere the U.S. Mint has revealed the final design of their 2025 Superman coin.
The obverse (heads side) design of Superman was designed and sculpted by Mint Chief Engraver Joseph Menna
It depicts Superman flying over his family farm
The Sun not only nurtures the farmland where a young Clark Kent was raised by his adoptive parents
but it is also the primary source that fuels his incredible powers
Mint Medallic Artist Joseph V. Noorigian designed and sculpted the reverse (tails side) of the Superman coin and medals
This design explores the duality of identity inherent in the story of Superman and the concept of “the hero within.” Clark Kent is shown as a young adult
deep in thought as he watches a plane fly overhead
and my first thought was the opening of The Simpsons
The Superman/Batman bullion coins are both unnecessary and wasteful
Gold is something like $3250/oz and the silver replica isn’t officially a coin and is being sold for about a hundred bucks a pop
It reminds me of those pseudo-coins “issued” by tiny islands in the middle of the ocean featuring Harry Potter

Taconic coach Ben Stohr has his Thunder playing well late in the season
It was a rare Sunday afternoon baseball game on Valentine Road
PITTSFIELD — The Ware High School baseball team bused into town Sunday with a perfect record
Quentin Christopher hit his second home run in as many games and drove in five
while reliever Gavin Maffuccio set the side down in order in the seventh as host Taconic held on for a 6-4 win
"It feels good when we have a good team win like that," Christopher said after the game
The Thunder broke a 1-1 tie with Christopher's three-run home run in the third
They added two runs in the fifth to make it 6-1
The Indians scored three times in the top of the sixth inning
Maffuccio got Jack Gaudreau on a pop fly that he caught
Then Logan Millett hit a liner right at second baseman Connor Paronto
and Brodie Koczur ended the game when he hit a one-hopper back to the mound
Maffuccio ran toward first and tossed to Kyle McGrath for the game-ending out
"We knew that it was going to be a battle," first-year Taconic coach Ben Stohr said
"[Taconic] is coming off of a big win at Wahconah last time
I was pleased with the approach at the plate
[Starting pitcher Chase] Wendling and Maffuccio did a good job of battling
but it was definitely big for us to get back over .500."
The Valley West team came into the game as the No
22-ranked team in the MIAA's Division III power rankings

We don't have a lot of big game practice here
That's why we took Taconic on last year because we knew we would be a little better the next few years
"We came and competed and had a chance to beat them today."
The Indians stranded 11 runners on the day
leaving runners on in scoring position in six of seven innings
whose single to left drove in Owen McKeever with the third run of the inning

Ware tied the game on a run-scoring double by Kyle Kaczuwka
Taconic took control of the game in the third inning
Ferris struck out on a third-strike foul tip
Then Ethan O'Donnell walked on a 3-2 pitch
The next batter was Christopher and on the first pitch
the Taconic shortstop drove the ball over the fence in center field for a three-run home run
Christopher hit a two-run single in the fifth
"He was swinging a good bat this last week
Christopher said the home run pitch from Guimond was a fastball
"I had my coach [Taconic assistant Austin Rachiele] taught me how to go middle and away with the ball and see it deeper into the plate," Christopher said
My gameplan every game is always to be aggressive because the first pitch you see is always the best one you're going to get."
The Thunder will be at Drury Monday at Joe Wolfe Field
and then at Clapp Park on Thursday for the rematch against city rival Pittsfield.
Three of Taconic's final four pre-Western Massachusetts Tournament games are on the road
The only home game for the Thunder is Monday

where the Indians will play Monument Mountain

Olivia Perry had 14 Ks in Drury's win at Wahconah, while Lee's Bri Lynch fanned 12 in a win at Mount Everett to highlight Friday's slate.

Following the ruling by the Court on Wednesday
Rick Ware Racing team owner Rick Ware issued a statement
"RWR is gratified by the Court's decision in this case
It's good to be vindicated," Ware said
LEGACY MOTOR CLUB, in a complaint filed in April, alleged Rick Ware Racing of attempting to pull out of a deal for one of Rick Ware Racing's two NASCAR Cup Series team charters
was seeking to prevent Rick Ware Racing from being able to sell or lease the Charter in question before the lawsuit was resolved
the contract had been signed by both parties
and initialed on each page for good measure
On April 9, a Superior Court Judge for Mecklenburg County granted LEGACY MOTOR CLUB a temporary restraining order against Rick Ware Racing
which kept Rick Ware Racing from being able to lease or sell the Charter in question until a ruling could be made on the Motion for Preliminary Injunction
which proved to be unsuccessful on Wednesday

There are two ongoing legal cases surrounding NASCAR Charters. The first is the highly publicized court battle between 23XI Racing, Front Row Motorsports and NASCAR as the teams seek to the challenge the terms of the 2025 Charter Agreement
focuses on the ownership of a single charter
The suit was filed in Mecklenburg County Clerk of Superior Courts and claimed Rick Ware was attempting to wrongfully back out of a signed agreement to transfer a charter from RWR to Legacy for the 2026 season
After allegedly signing an official Charter Purchase Agreement on March 3rd
Legacy claims RWR is trying to renege on the deal
they filed a motion for a preliminary injunction
asking the courts to prevent Rick Ware from doing anything with the disputed charter while the case is ongoing
the team asserted that they risk immediate and irreparable harm without the help of an injunction
However, a North Carolina judge ruled against them following a hearing on Wednesday morning, decided not to grant the preliminary injunction. Previously, Legacy was able to acquire a temporary restraining order, which prevented RWR from encumbering the disputed charter until a decision made regarding the injunction.
Rick Ware reacted to the news with the following statement: "RWR is gratified by the Court’s decision in this case
Legacy is aiming to expand to three full-time entries for the 2026 season as they already possess two fully chartered teams
Rick Ware Racing also possess two charters
but they are currently leasing one out to RFK Racing's No
This charter sale is said to be worth $45 million dollars
which would be a new record if it goes through

Miami Heat big man Kel’el Ware burst onto the scene in his rookie campaign
7.4 rebounds and 1.1 blocks per game across 64 games
There were some inconsistencies along the way
including in the Heat’s first-round series against the Cleveland Cavaliers
who turned 21-years-old earlier this month
earned some recognition Tuesday for being one of the NBA’s top rookies
While he wasn’t a finalist for the Rookie of the Year award
15 overall pick in last year’s draft tallied four third-place votes for the award

He finished 12th among rookies in total points
fifth in win shares per 48 and tied for first in value over replacement player (0.7)
I was oftentimes critical of the rookie’s strength (or lack thereof) and body positioning
but he showed a fairly good motor throughout the season–which was a pre-draft red flag last year–with very strong hands
good shooting touch inside 10 feet and rim protection
Though he showcased encouraging flashes on both sides of the floor alongside Bam Adebayo
despite their offense being a little funky together
The spacing and functionality weren’t always there
though it’s unfair to pin those solely on those two
who’s hoping to parlay his first taste of NBA basketball into something greater in future seasons
and what are you expecting him to improve heading into next year

He should come back a little bigger and more focused on what he has to do to elevate his game
It’s a process (especially for centers) that doesn’t happen overnight
If he works hard and learns and gains skill and confidence along the way
he has the potential to be an all-star or make the all defensive team one day

Three new plaintiffs were added to the suit against WWE and Vince & Linda McMahon
alleging that former ring announcer Mel Phillips and now Pat Patterson and Koko B
Ware abused teens recruiting for ring crew duty in the late 1980s and early 1990s
Yesterday (April 29), an amended version of the “ring boys” lawsuit against WWE and Vince & Linda McMahon was filed
The suit alleges the plaintiffs were aware of sexual abuse perpetrated by former WWE employee Mel Phillips against underage young men that were recruited to be part of the company’s set-up crew in the late 1980s
Brandon Thurston has a thorough report on the amended suit over at Post Wrestling that we encourage you to read
The key additions are allegations from three additional plaintiffs who name not only Phillips
but WWE Hall of Famers Pat Patterson and Koko B
says he met Phillips in 1988 when he was 11 or 12 years old
Doe 6 was told he had to stay in a hotel room with Patterson
he says he was given alcohol while Patterson watched pornography before forcing him to engage in sexual activity
Some of Doe 6’s testimony supports the case’s assertion that the McMahons had knowledge of the abuse by showing how widespread knowledge of it was. From Thurston’s report for Post:
Doe 6 claims he was grabbed in the crotch by wrestler Koko B
ring crew member and later ring announcer Tony Chimel
Ware told John Doe 6 to get against wall [sic]
pushed John Doe 6’s head against wall [sic]
The updated lawsuit states that most others in the room laughed
let him go.’” Chimel later told Doe 6 that he shouldn’t be on the ring crew and that he should run away
Doe 6 also shares a story about wrestling in the ring with a teenage Shane McMahon
The supposition appears to be the McMahons had to know about ring boys since their son was hurt interacting with them
The two other additional plaintiffs allege they were abused by Phillips while underage
WWE and the McMahons had previously filed responses to the suit
In addition to claiming they were unaware of the alleged abuses
the responses argue lack of jurisdiction due to the defendants lack of ties to Maryland
where the state’s 2023 Child Victims Act made the suit possible by eliminated the statute of limitations on when victims of child sexual abuse can file civil lawsuits against those responsible
The defendants also argued the suit doesn’t adequately establish their “duty of care” for the plaintiffs
and that it didn’t successfully argue the current WWE is liable for what happened under a different from of the company
The amended suit adds that each of the plaintiffs received compensation for their work on the ring crew
which could strengthen the case’s “duty of care” argument
Post Wrestling attempted to reach out to Ware
Request for comment from each of the defendants have not been answered as of this writing

London Trans+ Pride will return to central London on Saturday 26 July
with organisers announcing this year’s theme: ‘Existence and Resistance’
the annual protest march is expected to bring thousands to the streets in a show of solidarity with trans+ people across the UK
The event follows a record-breaking turnout in 2024
making it the largest Trans Pride gathering in history
more than 30 Trans Pride events are scheduled across the UK and Ireland
with London remaining one of the most prominent
“Marching to reclaim our streets is more important now than ever
as our community has continually seen its rights rescinded in the UK and across the world for years,” Adam Khan
a member of the London Trans+ Pride organising team
This year’s theme responds to what organisers describe as a growing wave of political and legal hostility, including the recent Supreme Court ruling on the definition of “biological sex”
said: “This year’s Supreme Court ruling has caused confusion
and real harm… The judgement erases the realities of intersex people
and reinforces the idea that only a narrow
outdated definition of womanhood deserves legal protection.”
In light of this, the event has drawn vocal support from a wide range of community members and allies, including Jessie Ware, Jeremy Corbyn, Munroe Bergdorf, Eddie Suzy Izzard, Jake Shears
I proudly stand with the trans community – with love and respect
Actor Russell Tovey said: “No LGB without the T
and respect and no amount of government rhetoric can erase their existence
Will Young added: “I stand in full solidarity with all trans people
The political hijacking of your lives and bodies is driven by a minority
“Trans people have always existed and should have the right to live peaceful
dignified and joyous lives,” said Clara Amfo
“Their rights are human rights.”
Organisers have set out a series of political demands for 2025
including a full ban on all forms of conversion therapy
and legal recognition for non-binary people
The importance of allyship has also been highlighted
said: “There has never been a more urgent time for allyship
I’m asking you to shelve passive allyship and step into active advocacy… Show up on the streets and then: take that same energy to your workplace

there doesn't seem to be many massive roster batters to watch out for
one that will be worth watching is at the kicker position
New York recently signed former Ole Miss and Texas A&M kicker Caden Davis as an undrafted free agent
the Jets will enter camp with both Davis and 13-year NFL veteran Greg Zuerlein
His first two years with the team were great
he only was able to play in eight games and went 9-of-15 on field goals
There's been some buzz about the possibility of the team moving on
We'll see what happens but FanSided's Justin Fried predicted that the team will end up rolling with Davis in 2025
"The special teams battles this summer will be very interesting for the Jets
should return as the incumbent long snapper
but the kicker and punter jobs will be competitions
"Undrafted rookie Caden Davis beats out Greg Zuerlein (a possible post-June 1 cut) and Anders Carlson for the kicker job
while veteran Thomas Morstead edges out Austin McNamara
don’t be surprised if McNamara makes a strong push for the role this summer."

George Halliburton Ware III passed away on October 25
Hal hailed from a long line of great cooks
a legacy that included a French Chef great-grandfather
It was not surprising that Hal’s own cooking skills began developing even as a child in his mother’s kitchen
he was cooking part-time in a local restaurant when a headhunter came calling with an offer to cook for Outback Steakhouse
Hal’s career in the restaurant business was well and truly launched
Most recently he had been working with the development of the Tad’s Louisiana Cooking franchise as regional manager of stores throughout Louisiana and Texas
Aside from the memorable dishes he created in the kitchen
Hal’s artistic side shone forth in the handcrafted furniture he made with so much love for family and friends – pieces that will now be cherished down the years.
earned multiple state championships in both junior varsity and varsity track and field while competing for Silliman Institute in Clinton
Hal passed down this passion for athletics to his own sons and to many of the local boys over the years coaching several Ward 3 flag football teams
as well as ICCS middle school football and basketball teams
Before the beginning of every football season he had carved out a scenario in which seasoned players and new recruits – and lately portal transfers – would almost for sure add up to a National Championship season.
An early indicator of Hal’s big loving heart was his childhood infatuation with
old black and white movies – a very favorite of which was “It’s a Wonderful Life”
How fitting that his own life came to embody the very theme of that movie – that the value of a life is not measured in wealth or public status or fame
but in the loving bonds with family and friends that weave meaning into our time on Earth
There were so many in his circle of family and friends whose love and support graced Hal’s last days with the gift of the knowledge of the positive role he had played in each of their lives
he was adding to that circle of friends with the angels of love and compassion who staff Harbor Hospice Hospital
and Thomas Ware; his parents Judge George H
his beloved cat of seventeen years: and by his wider “family” of so many
