An English teacher at Waterville Senior High School took a break on Tuesday from instructing students on grammar and syntax to publicly call for the Secret Service to assassinate President Donald Trump and his supporters

“The Secret Service has the perfect opportunity
Take out every single person who supports Trump’s illegal
Look at the sycophants and give them what they’re asking for
Every other country sees what’s happening and they are taking stands
we can avoid a civil war,” said JoAnna St
Germain in the pinned post on her Facebook account
“I’m not talking about assassinating a president
A president is a person duly elected by the American people
Tr*mp has shamelessly bragged openly about stealing the election
He is making plans to give himself a third term
I’m talking about Americans recognizing a fascist dictatorship and standing against it,” she added

Germain regretfully explained that she would happily murder President Trump and “every single person” who supports him herself
and she called on the Secret Service and the military to carry out the murders instead
Germain’s call for the murder of every Trump supporter puts Trump-supporting parents in the uncomfortable position of sending their children to be taught by a woman who
wants them dead and has even expressed a desire to commit murder herself if she had the “skill set required.”

My love holds no quarter for people in power actively harming those I love,” she added
Germain claimed that she did not wish death on MAGA Republicans broadly and specified that she did not mean that “every single person who supports” Trump’s policies should die
she added that she did not intend to backtrack on any of what she said
referring to people as “illiterate bums” and reiterating her desire for the president’s death
I posted knowing I’d likely lose my job and benefits
I believe Trump and every sycophant he has surrounded himself with (this is not you – if you’re reading this

She has no business being any where near children
What a failure democrats have made of our public schools
Maybe withholding 300 million federal funding from Maine education isn’t such a bad thing after all
This person is without a doubt mentally ill
Can we all sue this woman for threading our life
Absolutely “Look at the sycophants and give them what they’re asking for” She is on the top of that list
She belongs to psychiatry ward not a school
Thanks to this brain trust school choice is now practically guaranteed
When they debate school choice all they’ll have to do is bring up this looser picture
the people she insulated or the teachers who don’t want school choice
This dumb bitch should NEVER be in a Maine classroom
Her statement implies she does as she wants the president to have a conversation with him
Strange how illogical and irrational all the thought processes are from the left now
They very rarely have a coherent thought come out of their mouth
Colleges have really destroyed our citizens
Stop letting her off the hook by calling her insane
She’s not insane – she’s knows what she’s doing and that it’s wrong
It’s an insult to people will actually MH to put her in the same category
Our Governor will soon give this nut a medal
The Secret Service/DOJ should considr arresting this nut job
There should be zero to!France for this behavior
not “…to!France…”
It sounds like she should be getting to know that Secret Service very closely soon
The one that issued an executive order to pay off student loans
which was determined to be illegal by the Supreme Court
The one that wanted to tell you what kind of car to drive
The one that wanted to tell you what kind of stove you could have in your kitchen
The one that signed an executive order to FORCE YOU to take a vaccine that has now been proven to be ineffective and sometimes dangerous
Anything Maine women are handling is a failure
out of control “THEY” or “TRANNY” or whatever
She should be fired immediately and jailed for death threats against a sitting president
active threat to the Presidency and her students
‘he’ looks like she brings a lot of life experiance to table of teaching… bet they still live with them parents- i mean guardians… my teachers were all 60+ now the avg
teachers are like 25… was the age gap part of a bigger plan to dumb down education… what other fields is this hapeening in
skilled trades?everything is connected at the highest levels… denials all the way to the bottom.
all I needed was her picture and the answers just fell in place
and stand with Ukraine flags in her classroom
also bet she lets you know what her pronouns are first thing
these people really want us at war with each other
Last Presidential administration got an elderly Provo Utah resident taken out for a comment like like that
HE …and yes i said HE has no buisness in our or ANY school system
i dont need the mentaly ill teaching my kid
I hope everyone wakes up to what is already here
please follow up with your reporting on this horrific individual who obviously has mental issues with a dangerous hating ax to grind
The End Waterville School Board needs to fire her
she needs serious jail time for her threats
I’d like to know what parents are saying
Isn’t that the person who demanded Chellie Pingree call Trump a nazi
No wonder Maine is the 49th state for education
Wow… another angry democrud teaching our children
This says more about the Maine Education System than it does about this one fruitcake
She needs to be held pending medical evaluation
Maybe she just listened to the rant given by pritzker speech he gave in nh recently and was following what he said
Isn’t it against the law to threaten death to a president of the United States
The hubris and ignorance the left has to have to believe such an egregious act would prevent civil war
Does the left honestly believe they can commit all manner of violence and crimes against their opponents
without those opponents ever fighting back?
It doesn’t matter how nice and docile an animal is
it will eventually reach its breaking point and show its teeth
law abiding people who go through life trying to do the right things- the left is making a fatal mistake if they interpret those traits for weakness
the right is perfectly capable of doing whatever they have to in defense of their rights
This women should have a restraining order to be near children
commiecrats and deepstate badly want to kill Trump and it’s destructively polarizing to society
This entrenches support for Trump from people who should know better — people that know in their heart he is totally compromised
People like this extremist-left nut are providing Trump with cover while he commits crimes-against-humanity and genocide (twice)
Trump is also acting as an agent for a foreign government against the interests of the US
Trump needs to be removed from office and tried for these capital crimes
This leftist trash is actually keeping this criminal in office ……
You Mainers are pathetic for allowing vermin to teach your children
This “Thing ” needs alot of help…I mean like a team of mental health professionals…a trip to Austria 🇦🇹 Vienna in particular where a team of experts can figure out when and where the screws came loose

and the English teacher made it crystal clear an apology isn't coming
publicly: I knew what I was doing when I did it

Not apologizing after calling for mass death against the sitting President and his fans is absolutely nuts
Add in the fact the police and USSS are aware of the situation
and the latest posts are a perfect example of digging a much deeper hole

Maine (WGME) -- A new Renys store is opening in Waterville
The family-run business is opening its doors on Thursday for the first time at its Elm Plaza location
The store is in the former JCPenney location
The Waterville site is the 19th Renys location in Maine
The ribbon cutting ceremony gets started at 10 a.m
but there were intense storms that moved across the state.
Bring Me The News' Joe Nelson was covering the severe weather in the field when a tornado-warned storm passed directly over him a couple miles south of Waterville.
The storm carried a severe thunderstorm warning as it approached from the west when suddenly the radar revealed a rotation signature
prompting the National Weather Service to issue a tornado warning.
It's unclear if a tornado ever touched down
but the circulation related to the warned part of the storm passed very close by
It was the same storm that raced to the east and produced multiple tornado warnings, including a possible touchdown near Faribault that destroyed a barn and shed on a farm.
That same line of storms then crossed the Mississippi River and produced multiple tornado warnings in Western Wisconsin
including a radar-confirmed tornado just southeast of Eau Claire near the town of Augusta at 8:13 p.m.

Back in the eighties I was in a book club for a hot minute
we were expected to read a book — a major obstacle
I put a toe back in the water as a guest of the Waterville Area Newcomers Gourmet Group
This group is unapologetically all about eating and eating well
No pretext of reading a book — the food is the narrative on the third Wednesday of every month
when this group gets together for lunch hosted by one of their own
But after the niceties of introductions were in the bag
My hands were clammy as I was asked to keep in mind “just a few rules.” Please God
Don’t show up with a bag of Oreos from Hannaford
The host makes the entree — something special
inspired by travels or Bon Appetit or new entertaining trends
Sandy’s menu paid tribute to her Southern roots
The table was set with pretty dishes borrowed from Caroline
yellow Jessamine in small vases at each place
She Crab soup with hush puppies and honey butter
Italian cream cake with nutty cream cheese frosting
It’s no wonder there is a waiting list to join the Gourmet Group
I’m told the membership filled immediately when the group formed eight years ago
and people have been clamoring to get in ever since
Despite the group’s insistence that this is about the food
there’s obviously more to it than the menu suggests
This group is really nurtured by friendship
what it is like to infiltrate a close-knit community of old timers
some of whom have been part of the group since its inception
She told me that she felt right at home “from the get-go.” “I can’t think of a better way to make friends than over great food and wine
Having myself been acquainted with these women for a little under an hour
I was quickly getting over my angst about the idea that a group like this would have rules and instead beginning to appreciate that there was much to learn
desperate to become a part of this group every month
In the words of my eighth grade home economics teacher: “There are reasons for the rules.” This was a one-time invitation
I tucked away a few lessons like treasured leftovers and reminders of the women who make these get togethers a full course meal
you can form a gourmet group with your own kindred spirits
much like those forgotten souls on the Newcomers wait list who finally couldn’t take it anymore and are now meeting happily under the “Bread and Roses” moniker
The Leader Gets to Delegate.” The matriarch of the Gourmet Group
Jean dreamed up the idea of a friendship group “for true foodies who love to cook.” The first person she enlisted was Ann
Everyone knows Ann loves to start something new and is always willing to pitch in
Essentially — “All I do is boss you around.” Ann is working on honing that skill
track and test ideas to get them just right
“Life is Short — Always Start with a Toast to Friendship.” This lesson emerges from tragedy
the women helped each other through a really difficult time
every luncheon begins with a toast to Jane
(Never mind that there was no wine at the reception after Jane’s funeral
Everyone agrees that Jane would have wanted there to be wine.)
“Dress Well Even When You Don’t Feel Well” aka “Beautiful Garnishes.” I’ve been told that Caroline is under the weather
I’m expecting Caroline to show up in pajamas
Caroline is always dressed to perfection and so are her cocktails
accessorized with dried fruit or other garnishes
We bond over our shared love of Limoncello
Not the Rule.” Here’s the thing about Patti
rules were made to be broken where Patti is involved
“She took to it.” The rules tightened up after that — it was only fair to those still waiting in line
“Don’t Let the Grass Grow Under Your Feet.” Gloria knew she should wait to join the group until she retired
She admits to occasionally sneaking out of work to make it in time for hors d’oeuvres
especially if pimento cheese and cucumber sandwiches were on the menu
“A Cup of Vermouth Goes a Long Way.” Debby learned this the hard way
When her recipe for barbecue sauce called for a cup of vermouth
she realized too late that it’s better not to sample so liberally
Debby ended up “pie-eyed” while cooking for the group
“Necessity is the Mother of Invention.” That’s just the kind of no-nonsense advice you might expect from a retired nurse
Susan jumped into action during the pandemic to make sure that the group continued meeting
while adhering to the strictest health protocols
Susan used rocks to measure out chairs exactly six feet apart around a majestic tree in the yard and they carried on
The group met on lake shores and around fire pits during those fraught months
making sure everyone wore gloves when in contact with the food or each other
“Elevate it to an Art Form.” A talented potter
Carole brings her artist’s eye to every endeavor
the bowls and mugs in which it is served were probably created by Carole
“Tell It Like It Is.” Connie is a straight shooter
“She’s had five children,” the women tell me
the group is a bit adrift when Connie is absent — they tend to get out of line
(But it’s always fun where there is risk involved.)” The cane is a dead giveaway
If it isn’t one thing it’s another with Stephanie — a ski accident
But Stephanie is going to make it to every gathering “come hell or high water.”
“Bring a Dude Along.” You might think I’m referring to the group’s affinity for collectively caring for the husbands — there’s a bit of a sister-wives mentality to pitching in to make sure these men are well fed
But Sandy took the idea to the extreme on the women’s summer trip to Monhegan
Sandy had the foresight to pack a blow-up doll
I am picturing the group merrily chatting away on the ferry as it crosses the ocean
Sandy hanging on tightly to the Dude’s ankle as he bobs madly in the wind
The Dude stayed discreetly out of sight until the games began on the porch of the Monhegan House
at which point he became everyone’s favorite partner for charades
he lost air as the games wore on and by the end of the second day
“Eat Like There’s No Tomorrow (Not to Mention Tonight).” It’s getting late but no one seems to be in a hurry to leave
they must be back for “Dinner Group,” not to be confused with the “Dinner with Friends” group
It seems that the idea has caught on that eating together is something worth doing

Maine (WABI) - Northern Light Inland Hospital in Waterville is closing
This includes all hospital-affiliated services and clinics
Northern Light Health cites higher operational costs
Clinical services at Inland Hospital will gradually wind down but continue through May 27
Northern Light says it anticipates the facilities will formally close on June 11
In a letter sent to employees and obtained by WABI
Northern Light says the Waterville area has “a number of healthcare options available to them,” unlike many other communities they serve
Northern Light says this decision will allow them to “direct scarce resources to those regions where access to care is more limited.”
officials say they expect many of the providers and staff will remain with the organization
filling other positions throughout the system
Senior Vice President Marie Vienneau says Northern Light Health made the decision to close Waterville’s Inland Hospital and all affiliated services and clinics just one day before Thursday’s announcement
It comes a month after Northern Light announced sweeping consolidations in the Central Maine area and just two weeks after the discontinuation of labor and delivery services at the hospital
“Those were some near-term mitigation strategies that we were trying to employ to reduce expenses and
but our facility has been very fragile for many years
and it just became apparent that any near-term strategy that we employed was not going to bring us back to a positive or even near-positive operating margin,” Vienneau said
Vienneau says Inland Hospital was losing between $1 million and $1.5 million a month
While the move won’t solve all of the system’s financial strife
Vienneau says it’s one piece of the puzzle
She says Inland Hospital has 309 full-time employees
Northern Light says they will help guide patients through a transfer process to other providers and facilities. Patients and community members seeking additional information can visit northernlighthealth.org/notice
Maine (WGME) — Waterville police are investigating a social media post allegedly made by an employee of the city's school department suggesting President Donald Trump and his supporters be killed
The post shared to Facebook shortly before 3:15 p.m
Tuesday called on the Secret Service to: "Take out every single person who supports Trump's illegal
The same person also said they would take the supporters out themselves if they had the skills
CBS13 is not naming the individual at this time because they have not yet been charged with a crime
Waterville police said they are aware of the posts and working with federal law enforcement to ensure everyone's safety
CBS13 reached out to the school's superintendent with questions and is waiting to hear back
Maine (WGME) -- Northern Light Inland Hospital in Waterville will be closing its doors in June
the health care system announced on Thursday
The health care system says the availability of health resources available in the community have increased over time
making current operations at Inland unsustainable
Also read: Northern Light Inland Hospital in Waterville pauses services in maternity unit
Waterville and the surrounding communities are within close proximity to a number of health care options
and this decision allows Northern Light Health to direct resources to those regions where access to care is more limited
The hospital and clinics plan to continue clinical services through May 27
while helping patients transition their care to other facilities or organizations in the Waterville area
Inland team members will be connected to new opportunities within the organization and beyond
Northern Light Health says there are several regulatory requirements to closing a health care facility
and it will take several months to wind down operations
It is anticipated that the facilities will formally close operations June 11
Northern Light Health plans to maintain the facility and grounds while stewarding the sale of the property
This decision does not affect Northern Light Continuing Care
and there are no plans to close any other Northern Light hospital

The new lunch spot serves up flavorful dishes like sittoo used to make
A framed photo, taken around 1920, hangs on the dining-room wall at Mezza
a black-and-white image showing a row of houses pressed up tightly against the Kennebec River
in Waterville’s Head of Falls neighborhood
who owns the tiny building that houses Mezza and that formerly housed a similar restaurant
Known to most Watervillians simply as “the Lebanese bakery,” it was run for 44 years by Laya Joseph
who came to Waterville from Lebanon in the 1960s
decades after waves of Lebanese immigrants settled in Head of Falls
shaping the city in the late 19th and early 20th centuries
Nale set out looking for a restaurateur who could take over the space and preserve the Lebanese culinary tradition — his roots
Clockwise from top left: arayas (beef-stuffed flatbread); spinach-and-feta pie; cilantro zhoug sauce; falafel wrap; chef-owners Jim Veilleux and Melissa Grant
He found a pair of them in Jim Veilleux and Melissa Grant
the couple was looking to open a restaurant of their own and asked Nale about the space
and pillar of the city’s Lebanese-American community
That’s how Veilleux and Grant found themselves in Nale’s kitchen
learning the recipes that his immigrant mother (“fluent in Arabic and a marvelous cook”) prepared for her six kids — and for plenty of others
you couldn’t leave without having something to eat
the relationships were built around food.”
Nale family recipes constitute the backbone of the menu at Mezza
the terrific little lunch joint Veilleux and Grant opened last summer
I tried a few on a recent visit: The kibbe
a loaf-like mixture of spiced ground beef and cracked wheat
was rich and savory — it’s the unofficial national dish of both Syria and Lebanon
with big chunks tossed into a lemony mix of bulgur
aromatic dish of basmati rice cooked in chicken broth
and made fragrant with baharat spice and roasted pine nuts — staples of Lebanese cooking
itself a landmark of Waterville’s old Head of Falls neighborhood
“Working in the shadow of Laya’s reputation is intimidating,” Grant says
“but we want to keep drawing the community together with Lebanese food.” Neither she nor Veilleux have Lebanese heritage
they say they learned from their mothers and grandmothers about the power of food to bring people together — and the menu includes a sweet dedication to family matriarchs everywhere
“We’ve had a lot of sittoos — that’s the Lebanese word for ‘grandmother’ — dropping in and suggesting how we should do things,” Veilleux says with a laugh
the funny part is that everybody’s sittoo did it a little bit differently.”
WATERVILLE (WGME) -- A woman was not hurt after the car she was in broke through railroad crossing gates and hit a train in Waterville on Monday
the crash happened on Main Street around 5:15 p.m
The city's police chief says the woman did not stop for the gates
which then dragged the vehicle about 100 yards up the tracks
WATERVILLE — If you’ve ever driven through the picturesque town of Waterville
you may have noticed a charming white building along your route through the Pine Creek Valley
formerly the historic Waterville Hotel Mountain Cookery and Saloon
has been a staple in the community since 1825 and has survived through many hardships
built and established a hotel in modern-day Waterville
it was a place of rest and refuge in the Pennsylvania wilds
the town became a popular destination for outdoor enthusiasts and the hotel served as a gathering place for these visitors
the Waterville Hotel remains a popular destination for locals and visitors to the region
New owners Jason McConnell and Vanessa Brown and business partner Brad Wyland have revitalized the hotel and restaurant since acquiring it in 2023
McConnell was born and raised in Waterville and he and Brown purchased McConnell’s Country Store
“With the business next door it seemed like a good thing to do
I like being in Waterville and trying to preserve the history and culture of Pine Creek Valley,” said McConnell
McConnell has a family tie to the hotel as well — his great grandfather and grandmother William and Jess Smith operated the hotel from 1933 to 1945
“It’s the story behind the basic story that drove us to this
I think it’s important to hear,” said Wyland
Wyland has known McConnell and Brown for a long time
and his family has had a property in nearby Ramsey Village since the early 1960s
“We were (all) really interested but we didn’t have the full package — I don’t live here full time
It was a perfect combination of what we needed to put together to do this
It was pure chance,” Wyland explained
“All you need is a dream and a vision
Everything else rallies around that,” he continued
The Waterville Hotel offers an extensive menu filled with fan favorites
with everything from burgers and fries to vegetarian options
To help bring back some of the old history of the establishment
old menu items will be returning in addition to their current menu
A “throwback menu” to celebrate their 200th anniversary
“There’s some things that are already back — like the original mountain burger… There’s a lot on (the old menus) that we haven’t reintroduced yet
We (have) some old menus from the 1990s and one from the 1930s
That one has a steak on it for 0.35 cents,” said McConnell
“We’ll have to let (everyone) know if we run THAT special,” Wyland joked
has worked at the Waterville Hotel off and on since 2016
and had nothing but positive things to say about the hotel
but this place feels like ‘Cheers.’ It’s a small community
We have the privilege of letting people in a few months out of the year and let them experience the small town (atmosphere.) How cool is it to be somewhere that has been doing the same thing for 200 years
The history of Waterville in general is amazing.” he said
“The place has really come far in the last 10 years I’ve been here
I look forward to seeing it going even farther,” Collar continued
The bar also offers a multitude of options to quench your thirst — including local wines and craft beers
has been working at the hotel for the last three years
We’re all like family here — the locals are awesome
You can’t beat the hotel in the summer with all the people coming in
(Keeping things) lively,” said Melissa
The interior of the restaurant features numerous pictures of the hotel from years past
“Just the fact that it’s 200 years old is cool for this area,” said Brown
“There’s a lot of history here.”
Many of the photos feature visitors to the hotel
Coming to the Waterville Hotel has been a tradition for many for generations
“(The Waterville Hotel) has always been here
The stories people tell through different generations — I think that is what makes it special and unique
It is at the heart of Waterville,” said Wyland
“Growing up here… We’re trying to keep things how they always are instead of changing it into something it’s not
(This place) gives people something to talk about — something to reminisce on
those moments are what stand out more than anything,” said McConnell
Though not everyone in the photographs can be identified
“There’s a lot of people who aren’t here anymore that you can’t get stories from
They probably had more on the real history of the place than what we do
That’s what we’re trying to do — to keep that
Many of the patrons of the Waterville Hotel have been coming for the good food and great company for decades
reminisced on all the years he’s been coming to the hotel
This is my favorite spot and I always have a good time here
I’ve been coming here for a long time
I’m 69 (years old) and I was here before I was old enough to drink
“I’ve seen several owners come and go
Everyone comes here just to kick back and relax
who lives full-time just outside Philadelphia
said he comes to the Waterville Hotel every time they drive up to their cabin
“We always stop on the way up to have a beer
It’s been a tradition for probably 25 years,” he said
Everyone is very welcoming and I encourage everyone to stop in.”
Mike Kellish has been coming to the hotel since the early 1990s with his friend Keith McDonald whose family has a camp in the area
“There was a sign outside that said ‘home of the mountain burger’ and we would always stop here just for that on the way up
It always came with waffle fries,” said Kellish
his wife Marianne and his daughter Anna are all regulars at the hotel
I like to promote the local business,” said Charlie
and the people are nice,” said Marianne
“We’ve been coming here for 10 years.”
so that’s nice they gave her a chance
(The owners) are very generous,” said Charlie
is in Waterville any time he has a free day
“It’s nice to see people come in (to the hotel) who haven’t been in for a long time
They talk about and share when they were kids coming up and hunting
If you have a story you’d like to share about the Waterville Hotel
Throughout this year there will be events to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the Waterville Hotel’s opening
Having one big bang doesn’t seem to do 200 (years) justice
because not everyone is going to be here to be part of that
Everyone who comes and goes from the valley and the locals should all celebrate
There will be a number of things we do to spread out
We’ve got a few surprises,” said Wyland

WATERVILLE (WGME) -- Emergency responders in central Maine are concerned that the closure of a Waterville hospital will slow down their response times
Northern Light Inland Hospital in Waterville announced it will stop clinical services at the end of May and officially close its doors in June
Waterville’s fire chief says it means EMS crews will need to take more patients to hospitals outside of town
the Waterville Fire Department transported 900 patients to Northern Light Inland Hospital
"We want to make sure that the citizens of Waterville are receiving the highest possible level of care that we can," Waterville Fire Chief Jason Frost said
The Waterville Fire Department operates two full-time ambulances and responded to about 4,700 medical calls last year
Frost says the only reason the department has been able to handle so many calls with a small crew is because the city has two emergency departments: Northern Light Inland Hospital and MaineGeneral’s 18-bed Thayer Center
"We can turn calls around very fast," Frost said
But that convenience will end after Northern Light announced that financial challenges are forcing the closure of the Waterville location
"Northern Light Inland Hospital has been a challenged hospital for the better part of the last decade," Northern Light Regional President Marie Vienneau said
Frost says the closure will mean more trips to Augusta or Skowhegan hospitals
tacking on about 40 minutes to round-trip travel time and adding an extra cost to every transport
"I foresee us having a lot more maintenance issues with our trucks — brakes
and everything — and also our fuel," Frost said
And impact won't only be felt in Waterville
it's going to look like a parade going to the hospital because everybody’s going to be going to Augusta or everybody’s going to be going to Skowhegan," Interim Winslow Fire Chief Michael Murphy said
Frost says he is meeting with hospitals and crews from neighboring towns in the coming weeks to develop a plan as they all prepare for the closure of Inland Hospital
Northern Light Health announced today that it will close Inland Hospital in Waterville this spring
The system says the hospital and associated clinics will continue services through May 27
and help patients transition care to other locations
Joni Cruz of Skowhegan was at the hospital for a regular appointment when she was told about the closure today
it's like you want us to take care of ourselves and to be healthy
but then you don't give us the access," Cruz said
you don't give us the insurance that we need
The announcement comes just weeks after the hospital paused obstetrics and gynecology services
and said it would relocate several other services to the hospital campus
senior vice president at Northern Light Health
said the hospital has been losing $1 million a month in operational costs
low reimbursement rates and staffing challenges
"But our facility has been very fragile for many years
and it just became apparent that any near-term strategy that we employed was not going to bring us back to a positive or even near positive operating margin," she said
She said the hospital has 309 full time employees
and the organization is already working to connect them to new positions at other Northern Light locations or facilities
"While many of the challenges facing Inland are similar to those at hospitals throughout Maine and the rest of the country
solutions working well in other facilities and the communities we serve have not proven successful in Waterville,” Tim Dentry
nearby health care options and said the closure would allow it to focus on underserved regions
"The number of service providers in the Waterville service area outweigh the operation’s critical resources available and patient volumes are not adequate to balance the costs of maintaining operations," Dentry said
will not be affected by the hospital closure
Congresswoman Chellie Pingree in a statement called the closure "devastating," particularly for low-income residents
"Health care systems across the country — especially in rural areas — are struggling under the weight of rising costs
Inland Hospital is a 48-bed facility that offers a range of inpatient and outpatient services
The next closest inpatient facility is MaineGeneral Health in Augusta
said he was saddened to learn of the closure
He said the state's nonprofit hospitals- including MaineGeneral- are struggling financially
and that underlying issues must be addressed
MaineGeneral had already been working with Northern Light to transfer obstetrics services
and will look to transition additional patients
"The scope of today’s announcement is one that will require much more work to assess the impact and the loss of services in our area with Inland’s closure," he said
"We will be working to evaluate these changes and how we can best support our community
as we too are grappling with navigating the changes in the health care landscape both across the state and the nation."
