Mayor Trapani says the addition of the hotel will lead to more economic growth and development in the area
it’s going to bring people into Hancock County to stay when they are working at Stennis Space Center
the studies show that people like to move to where they’ve stayed
they’re more familiar with that area

Trapani says this project has been a long time coming for Hancock County
“This is a joint effort of different entities in Hancock County
The Hancock County Board of Supervisors was involved in this project and so was the Hancock County Port and Harbor Commission along with the city of Waveland

blue-washed dance full of emotion and mystery
The members of New Orleans dream pop band Whisper Party
like to joke that vocalist and keyboardist Jean Preston is the “whisper,” while drummer Chris Hayes
guitarist Michael Selser and bassist Rex Marshall bring the “Party!” — exclamation point included for good measure
But it’s an apt description for the alluring band: Preston’s voice typically melts into the music and remains ethereal
until the song calls for the classically trained vocalist to reach for the rafters
with a love for Blonde Redhead and Cocteau Twins put through heavier twists and turns
The result turns “Waveland,” the second full-length album by Whisper Party!, into a hazy, blue-washed dance full of emotion and mystery. The band releases “Waveland” on Friday, Nov. 8, with a show at Saturn Bar
The Kissing Disease and Delores Galore also perform
On stage, Whisper Party! completes the dream, often wearing monochromatic outfits. Whisper Party! sets are introduced by poet and writer Aleck Woogmaster
not just sonically but visually,” Preston says
where mysterious characters are sauntering around
Whisper Party! formed in spring 2021
Marshall and Preston had played in the group Simple Sound Retreat and wanted to try a new project
Preston’s “voice always sounded really nice with reverb,” Marshall says
“We thought we should start a dream pop band and ended up going a little bit heavier.”
record and perform consistently around New Orleans — often joined by an ASL interpreter to help make their shows more inclusive for the deaf and hard-of-hearing community
They also have ventured out on some small tours around the region
including a few dates with surf punk maniacs Daikaiju
Whisper Party! released its self-titled first album in spring 2023 and had already started working on songs for their follow-up
The title “Waveland” is a nod to the house in Waveland
where the band recorded the “meat and potatoes” of their new album
“Waveland” opens with a poem by Woogmaster
which he reads over growing sounds of waves
The short piece about the push-and-pull of gravity and its effects sets up the ebb-and-flow of emotions explored on the album
The track “Torn Pages” is about reflecting on personal failures but knowing we’re still in charge of writing our own stories for the future
but there’s also a lot of hope found within that
“It’s always kind of hidden in this meditative
but there is a lot of hope you can find on the album.”
likes to create a specific atmosphere and a mood with their live shows and music
but it’s an effort to create a world where listeners can explore whatever emotion it is they need at that time
“Some of our songs have these uncomfortable feelings of loss but in the same song you can hear love and hope
So it’s whatever the listener needs in that moment is what I hope for them,” Preston says
“I hope they experience something different every time.”
Whisper Party! performs at 9 p.m. Friday, Nov. 8, at Saturn Bar. Admission is $10. An ASL interpreter also will be on stage. Find more info at whisperpartymusic.com

he said the months of operation at these courses have evolved in recent years due to climate change and changing weather patterns
Blank and Jester Park have had "pop-up" days over the past two months when they were opened due to light snowfall and warmer-than-expected temperatures
would be closed by late November and not open till March 15
the first time Bright Grandview and Waveland opened in February
you were guaranteed off most of November until mid-April

The rooftops on the far west side of Waveland Avenue overlook Wrigley Field during a Cubs game in 2013
The Chicago Cubs are suing one of the rooftop owners outside Wrigley Field
accusing him of selling tickets for games and other events at the stadium without a license
Buildings along Waveland and Sheffield avenues have sold tickets under a licensing deal with the Cubs
The license for Aiden Dunican and Wrigley View Rooftop
but it continues to advertise and sell tickets this season
Situated down the left field line adjacent to the Chicago Fire Department’s Engine 78 station
Wrigley View Rooftop holds up to 200 guests
It collects hundreds of thousands of dollars a year from tickets and other sales
the founder and president of Wrigley View Rooftop
along with Wrigley View Rooftop and Rooftop by the Firehouse
“There is no public right to a live Cubs game or its broadcast,” the lawsuit states
the Cubs control the Cubs team and Wrigley Field to create the live game Dunican and Wrigley View Rooftop seek to profit from
“Yet instead of paying for the right to profit from the Cubs’ property rights
Dunican and Wrigley View Rooftop seek to take and sell the Cubs’ property for their sole unjust economic gain
without a license from the Cubs,” the suit contends
There was no immediate comment from Dunican or the company
Dunican and Wrigley View Rooftop are also accused of using the Cubs’ trademarks
for advertising and on its website and social media
They advertise ticket sales as an “‘Official Cubs Partner’ even though they know this is false,” the lawsuit says
to intentionally misappropriate the Cubs’ property,” the lawsuit states
The team says it has warned Wrigley View Rooftop several times this year about selling tickets without a renewed agreement with the team
Dunican and Wrigley View Rooftop have refused to stop selling tickets or agree to a new license
The lawsuit seeks a permanent order prohibiting Wrigley View Rooftop from selling tickets to games and other events at Wrigley Field
It also asks for Wrigley View Rooftop to give up profits it made this year
The lawsuit claims Dunican and Wrigley View Rooftop’s sales without a license causes “immediate and irreparable harm to the Cubs
including to their goodwill and commercial reputation
in addition to causing lost sales and profits and other economic injuries.”
Accusations in the lawsuit include misappropriation
false advertising and violation of the Illinois Uniform Deceptive Trade Practices Act

Both brands are owned by Marriott International

The 4,400-square-foot Greek Revival mansion on Waveland Museum Lane in Lexington has been standing for 175 years. Known as Waveland Historic Site or the Joseph Bryan House
the building is filled with one-of-a-kind historic artifacts
holding important pieces of Kentucky history
Historical interpreter Susan Miller leads tours through the mansion and has also written a book about the property. "Waveland's Treasures," with photography by Bob Willcutt
discusses the history of the estate and grounds
as well as the Bryan family and the formerly enslaved people at Waveland
It also details several of the site's artifacts
which are deeply connected to Kentucky's pioneer history
(and they have) great back stories," Miller told The Courier Journal
"We even have an original gravestone panel from Daniel Boone’s grave."
Construction for the 10-room mansion began in 1844 and was completed in 1848
Their portraits — as well as those of other family members — are displayed in the family parlor
Daniel Bryan … was the son of Captain William Brian and Mary Boone Bryan

Several of the artifacts featured at Waveland have ties to the Bryan or Boone families
was purchased by Joseph Henry — Joseph Bryan and Margaret's son — in 1890
In the same room sit two bibles owned by the Bryan family
"The bible in the case is one of three iconic Kentucky artifacts that Waveland owns," Miller said
explaining that the first edition Collins Bible was owned by Mary Boone
and includes 10 pages of family history that she inscribed
"It’s open to the page where she recorded the wedding of her and Captain William Brian
(She also included) all their 10 children when they were born
The structure behind the mansion is a six-room building that served as formerly enslaved persons' quarters
"This was a confederate family," Miller said
"and all the big farms and plantations had slave labor
… Slave labor is what made this family wealthy."
It’s unknown what each room of the quarters was used for
"We have a tremendous collection of 18th- and 19th-century cooking equipment," Miller said

Though the collection does not necessarily reflect what was in the room when the Bryan family live there
it is an accurate representation of items that were once used to prepare meals long ago
The assemblage includes everything from a pancake griddle and hot water heater to a pie iron and a coffee bean roaster
one of the rooms has been transformed into an educational area with photos
and artifacts relating to the formerly enslaved people
Amy Taylor from the University of Kentucky) came and did a lot of research on (Waveland's) enslaved African Americans," Miller said

The display features the names of the formerly enslaved at Waveland
as well as panels of information covering how they were bought
as well as what certain aspects of their lives were like while they were at the plantation
Capturing Kentucky lifeMiller says prior to the property becoming Waveland Historic Site 52 years ago
the mansion and its surrounding 13 acres were slated to become the Kentucky Life Museum
"It was going to be like another Williamsburg or Sturbridge Village," she said
and he … put the call out to the Commonwealth of Kentucky for people to send him their family treasures — and they did."

In addition to the bible in the family parlor
there are two other particularly iconic artifacts in the house
The second is a wooden chair that was purchased by Daniel Boone's father
"That chair was attached to a packhorse in 1779," Miller said
"(and) it held a little girl: Rebecca Boone Grant
and she rode (on that chair) from the Yadkin Valley
through the Cumberland Gap of the Wilderness Road
The third iconic artifact is a Bryan family rifle
"You (can) see the beautiful brass patch box
The piece was made in Lexington in 1835 at (Daniel Bryan's) gun factory
"People call Waveland the home of the Bryans," Miller added
that’s not why Waveland is historically significant
It’s because of the artifacts that are found in this mansion
(They) will totally blow your mind when you know (their) caliber
… This place just gets underneath your skin
