“It’s a wonderful little town to live in
it really is,” longtime Waxhaw resident Don Glander said
“You see a lot of pictures of Waxhaw from the 1800s
[and] it doesn’t look that much different than it used to
The streets are lined with historic buildings

But growing in plain sight is an unstoppable force that’s both embraced and dreaded

Waxhaw welcomed a record-breaking 1.6 million visitors to its downtown
But the thing about some of these visitors is they don’t want to leave
Waxhaw’s population has nearly tripled and continues to grow each year
“People want to come here… people want to start businesses here,” Nowell said
Nowell has been trying to manage the attention
She keeps a running list of all the businesses wanting to call Waxhaw home
“Spaces are rented out very quickly here,” she said while laughing
“We couldn’t have a better position
a better place,” Jamie Richardson said while sitting next to his wife
We couldn’t ask for a better location,” she said
Provisions Waxhaw has become some people’s daily routine and others’ newfound treasure
then purchased the business three years ago with her husband
taking on the morning rush of new faces while still feeling the pressures of small-town demands
“I had to talk some people off the ledge online
The sights and sounds of Waxhaw may change
I am always yearning to come back to this place
and I hope that it is pretty close to the way it is right now
