WEST BRIDGEWATER — Joseph Case head football coach Anthony Palladino didn't know what to expect after the Cardinals took it on the chin against Blackstone Valley in Week 4 Palladino preached all week long leading up to Thursday's matchup with West Bridgewater about Case setting the standard on the field For much of the first half and all of the third quarter That was until Wildcat junior running back Ty Holmes took over in the fourth quarter "We played tonight with the passion and sense of urgency that needs to be our standard," said Palladino after Case lost to W-B "No matter if things are going bad or good We can't let the environment change our standard I challenged them to do that because it wasn't good last week young and inexperienced team gave a very good football team a good fight on the road The score isn't an indicative of what the game played out was." who was held to just 16 yards on seven carries in the first half suddenly came alive late in the second half Holmes finished the contest with a game-high 157 yards on 20 carries and three touchdowns including one from 40 yards out late to end any hopes of a comeback bid by the Cardinals "We had to fix some things up front in the second half," Wildcats head coach Justin Kogler said "Case came out with a little different front than we expected But I feel they had the ball longer than we did We needed to make stops and we did not do it played hard and won the battle up front for most of the game They were cleaner than we were and we have to be better." One of the reasons why the Cardinals (1-4) had a big advantage in time of possession was the performance of Cole Rego The sophomore running back had a career game rushing for a team-high 141 yards on 25 carries He also added a 2-point conversion to get Case closer at 24-14 "Cole (Rego) did a great job," said Cardinals junior quarterback Lucas Beaulieu who threw for a pair of touchdowns in the fourth quarter He picked it up and led us tonight on the ground The Wildcats got on the board first when Holmes scored the first of his three touchdowns on a 1-yard dive The score remained the same until late in the first half when linebacker Sean Hancock sacked Beaulieu in the end zone for sack that resulted in a safety Jacob Bettencourt fielded the punt at his own 40 and took it the distance for a touchdown to give W-B (3-2) a 17-0 halftime lead after the extra point by Smith Case finally put together a scoring drive which ended with a 6-yard touchdown pass from Beaulieu to Zachary Kerns The Wildcats responded quickly on a short field with a 24-yard touchdown run by Holmes to go up 24-6 this time to Bert Cooper to cut the lead to 24-14 after a Rego two-point conversion But Holmes exploded into the opening field on W-B next drive for 40 yards to ice the contest The Cardinals recovered two fumbles — Timothy Coderre and Malakai Dowling But the Wildcats gathered in a pair of interceptions — Bettencourt and Popotte — to even it out "There's a lot to build on from this game," Palladino said "We're not happy or satisfied but we can build on what we did here tonight Herald News and Taunton Daily Gazette sports editor Steven Sanchez can be reached at ssanchez@heraldnews.com You can follow him on X (formerly Twitter) @Chezsports a vertically integrated real estate investment and asset management firm with over 40 years developing industrial assets announced the completion of 586 Manley Street and distribution facility located in West Bridgewater Designed to meet institutional-quality standards 586 Manley Street offers an array of features that make it an ideal location for logistics and distribution operations the property can be subdivided to accommodate multiple tenants JLL is the leasing broker for 586 Manley Street which is available to lease for immediate occupancy 586 Manley Street has no traffic or operational restrictions making it an especially attractive choice for last-mile distribution operations and third-party logistics users Its strategic location offers convenient access to major transportation routes “With the completion of 586 Manley Street we are excited to offer a prime logistics facility in one of Greater Boston’s most sought-after markets for industrial real estate,” said Leah Harsfield “This building has been designed with flexibility and functionality to meet the growing demand for last-mile and regional distribution spaces.” “586 Manley Street is a standout opportunity for tenants in the Greater Boston market offering flexible logistics space from 48,000 to 210,600 square feet,” said Chelsea Andre this property delivers with easy access to major highways and top-tier features like 37 loading docks It’s the kind of space that meets the evolving needs of today’s logistics and distribution businesses while setting them up for future success.” Cranshaw Construction served as the general contractor for the project and JLL is the leasing agent for the property Receive emails when new obituariesare published to our website Top hats were in fashion and people connected through telegrams rather than texts And the need for family and friends to come together Planning your funeral in advance means your family won’t have to when the time comes >>LEARN MORE Services that honor the individual and provide peace of mind for families >>SEE OUR SERVICES Unparalleled care at every step with unique and personalized memorial services >>SEE OUR SERVICES Chapman Funerals & Cremations - Bridgewater Chapman Funerals & Cremations - East Bridgewater Chapman Funerals & Cremations - Falmouth Chapman Funerals & Cremations - Harwich Funeral Home Chapman Funerals & Cremations - Harwich Chapman Funerals & Cremations - Marstons Mills Chapman Funerals & Cremations - Martha’s Vineyard Chapman Funerals & Cremations - Mashpee Chapman Funerals & Cremations - Wareham Chapman Funerals & Cremations - West Falmouth Funeral Home Chapman Funerals & Cremations - West Falmouth Chapman Funerals & Cremations - Yarmouth © Chapman Funerals & CremationsSupported by SRS Computing Your browser may not work with certain site. The dispute goes back to 2010, according to meeting notes from the West Bridgewater Planning Board Opponents say it's a bad deal for Brockton that would add traffic to a narrow part of West Chestnut Street while West Bridgewater benefits from the property taxes. "This is the most convoluted case we've ever had," Brockton Planning Board member Mary Crowell said at a Jan The board unanimously denied Albanese approval for a three-lot subdivision on the Brockton side of the line because the developer would need city buy-in on that subdivision in order to run a road through Brockton to West Bridgewater "You're hellbent on blocking that roadway and it flies in the face of real estate law," the attorney and restaurateur said at the January meeting Planning officials told him he'd need to file a new case Development fight Brockton considers agreement for controversial Meadow Wood project in West Bridgewater Brockton says road would be longer than law allowsA key issue is the length of the would-be road from West Chestnut Street to the West Bridgewater line City officials say that this kind of road can't be longer than 700 feet The most recently publicly available plans show a road 740 feet long Albanese is hanging his hat on a 2020 Brockton Planning Board decision to approve a road during "site plan review." During an earlier stage of the dispute, the developer put up an official-looking sign on the phantom road naming it "Eanieri Way" after Dennis Eanieri, who at that time represented Ward 3 on the Brockton City Council and opposed the project. He later spoke in favor of Meadow Wood Kohl's in Stoughton sold Who bought it and what is moving in? Possible violation of water regulationsThere are also environmental concerns. The developers are under scrutiny from Brockton's Conservation Commission. That board's conservation agent, Kyle Holden, sent a notice of violation to Albanese on Jan. 6 Holden said that on a recent inspection he found a pipe had been built that could That's not on a water management plan the commission approved in 2017 Holden said the commission has asked Albanese for plans that show what's actually been built the commission had not received those plans "The problem is this has been going on so long and there are so many iterations of the project," Holden said Albanese has a chance to explain at the commission's March meeting The commission's next step could be to escalate to an "enforcement order," Holden said there is no longer any Meadow Wood proposal in front of West Bridgewater officials The would-be developer told planning officials in September 2022 that they were suspending their plan stating "it doesn't appear to work for them," according to meeting minutes The pause is only after years of wrangling delays because of COVID and a lawsuit against West Bridgewater that both sides agreed to end in 2023 Albanese's group initially won a separate lawsuit against Brockton's Planning Board but an appeals court reversed that decision Send your news tips to reporter Chris Helms by email at CHelms@enterprisenews.com or connect on X at @HelmsNews Freda's restaurant in West Bridgewater had their last night on Saturday Dec The Enterprise got a chance to speak to Freda's owner He tells us the last night of the restaurant was extremely busy People were elbow to elbow and parking spaces were full Some customers needed more than one night to say goodbye faithful Friday night people and faithful Saturday night people," said Stathis Freda's stayed open for 38 years. When you've got two sets of siblings that really helps that mentality," Reddington said The O'Neils (Ava and Samantha) and the Ryans (Brooke and Mackenzie) make up the sibling duos Ava is in her senior year with Samantha right behind her as a junior while Mackenzie is a junior and Brooke is in her freshman year with the program All four grew up and were around the sport together for most of their childhoods Samantha and Mackenzie had the most time on the court with each other and didn't have many opportunities to play with their own sisters the opportunity finally presented itself to play all together especially how long we've known each other," Samantha O'Neil said are the same year so we've been playing together Not being able to play with our sisters and now both of us being able to play with our sisters is pretty cool." the four had an opportunity to play together in summer leagues and were constantly together both on and off the court it feels like the four are all sisters rather than separate siblings More: Silver Lake hockey wins in OT: South Shore sports top performers, Dec. 12-21 More: Quincy girls basketball off to flying start; Silver Lake's trying to rebuild on the fly So I know how she plays and how I play and it's very similar," Mackenzie Ryan said "We play at the same pace so it's really easy to run the floor and know where each other are going to be," Ava O'Neil added Being around your sibling all day every day certainly presents its challenges But if there's one thing that it has taught the sisters it's to squash any sibling beef when they step on the court she will yell at me," Samantha O'Neill said jokingly "But it's not something you take personally because it's your sister." "It definitely gets competitive," Ava O'Neill said All agreed that competitiveness has been a positive for their game development seeing the sisters challenge each other has been fun to watch it's very supportive of each other," Reddington said "They push each other to be better and it's fun to see them help each other get better." ROCKLAND – West Bridgewater's football team didn't forget what Rockland did to the Wildcats on their home turf last fall Friday night was their chance to return the favor It proved to be payback of sorts after a 2023 meeting in which the Bulldogs went to West Bridgewater and played physical smash-mouth football en route to a 27-23 victory in Week 3 Trailing at halftime by a touchdown Friday night West Bridgewater head coach Justin Kogler knew his team had to play more physical than Rockland He had just two words for his players: "Toughen up." they lined up and punched us in the mouth all the way down the field They ran the same play over and over again and we couldn't stop it last year," Kogler said and the kids stepped up in the second half." Ty Holmes opened the game's scoring with a 6-yard rushing touchdown Rockland answered on the following drive as senior running back Dom White burst through the middle of the field for a 38-yard rushing score to tie the game at 7-7 Bulldogs' junior quarterback Ryan Hatch threw an 8-yard touchdown to senior Brandon Comeau completing a 97-yard drive after turning the Wildcats over on downs at the 3-yard line but Kogler's players seemed to listen to his message Second-half sensationsThe Wildcats pitched a shutout in the second half West Bridgewater forced a fumble on Rockland to begin the second half Quarterback Ryan Nunes rushed for a one-yard touchdown on the next drive Holmes scampered into the end zone untouched for a 15-yard rushing touchdown Holmes said the he had revenge on his mind the entire week of practice leading up to the game I knew we had the capability to beat them and we showed it today." Up 21-14 with under five minutes to play in the fourth quarter Polidori sacked Rockland quarterback Jax Leduc on fourth down putting the Wildcats in a position to close out the game Polidori put himself in a position to close out the game the Wildcats got a false start penalty called on them giving the Bulldogs hope that they could get the ball back to potentially tie the game and like there was an imaginary brick wall in front of him he ran right through Rockland's defense for a 41-yard score to put the game away Polidori gave credit to his fellow running back Holmes for allowing him to have the success he saw Holmes rushed for more than 1,300 yards last season and there was undoubtedly going to be a focus on trying to stop him which also opened up opportunities for Polidori With Polidori lining up at fullback and Holmes behind or next to him for most of the offensive snaps it allowed West Bridgewater to disguise where the handoff was going "It's all thanks to my boy Ty right here," Polidori said after the game "They would think he's getting the ball and I would just (run) right in the middle "We would just catch them off guard," Holmes added "They'd think we're going one way and we go another." head coach Nick Liquori said it just came down to his team being worn out by the end "The game was probably just a little too long for us," Liquori said "They did a good job of beating us up physically on the line of scrimmage The loss was just Rockland's fifth in the regular season since 2022 It's a program that has piled up wins under Liquori in recent years but with only seven seniors on this season's roster he said it will take some time for a young Bulldog team to find it's stride I just told them that at some point in time we're going to learn how to win games like this because these are the games were going to have to be in," Liquori said "I think it's just a lack of experience to be in that situation to succeed." McLoughlin “He’s obviously super fast so that definitely helped," junior linebacker Oliver Henry said West Bridgewater (5-4) junior running back Tommy Polidori (9 carries 109 yards) took the first play from scrimmage and sprinted to the end zone for a 71-yard touchdown The Cohasset defense went on to force three WB fumbles (all in the third quarter) two turnovers on downs and Greene's head coach Karen Pennington is running out of game balls to give to senior Ava Harkins She's the first Wildcat to reach that mark but didn’t know exactly when it was coming until Pennington called a timeout to recognize the moment “I knew it was coming up but I didn’t know it was happening she reached another milestone getting her 500th kill on Senior Night in a match against Brockton on Oct Harkins is also the first five-year member of the varsity team Harkins started on junior varsity in seventh grade “I moved up to varsity and I took her with me That was my first year as the varsity coach," said Pennington "It means a lot to me because I started with her.”  More: League title races wrapping up: South Shore sports top performers, Oct. 28-30 Her leadership has been just as important as her on-court play as Harkins is the lone senior on the roster and a seventh grader on the court at the same time with Harkins I know that I want to be like her when I get to that age,” said seventh grade varsity player Raelyn Gifford said “I just want to make myself improve at her level.”  Harkins is committed to play volleyball at Keene State next fall While Harkins was the first to play five varsity seasons starting with Gifford and eighth-grader Caydence Jones the first seventh-grader to earn a varsity spot began playing club volleyball as an elementary school student When she got to West Bridgewater Middle/High School seeing her talent was a pleasant surprise to Pennington In just the ninth game of her varsity career the seventh grader recorded an eight-kill game against powerhouse Case on Sept but I’m proud of myself and everyone else is Pennington called Jones a “blocking force” in the middle-hitter position she’ll have a real chance of hanging up a blocking banner in the school’s gymnasium She's the first eight grader to play that position at WB Jones decided that she wanted to go a different route “My whole family background is playing basketball ‘I need to do something different,” Jones said Jones showed her ability to impact a game in the team’s third match of the season against Bourne As two of the youngest members on the team Gifford and Jones have bonded through that shared experience using it to navigate the growing pains that come with playing at the varsity level “It’s really tough because it’s all the older girls and they know what to do,” Jones said It’s an exciting time to be a part of West Bridgewater volleyball especially for head coach Karen Pennington considering that there was no program eight years ago Pennington had moved to Massachusetts from Arizona she coached the sport at both the high school and collegiate level So when she applied for a teaching position at West Bridgewater after moving she had but one question during the interview process “‘Do you have a volleyball team?’ and they were like ‘No’ Pennington has taught at the school for 11 years coaching softball and cheerleading at times while hoping that a volleyball program would pop up Pennington semi-retired in 2010 and spent her time coaching club volleyball in the area But when the new school was completed in 2016 along with it came a new volleyball program After running as a club sport for the first year Pennington got a call to run the JV team for its first year in competition and was asked to lead the varsity team in 2018 It’s the girls that have the desire to get better and then continue working hard,” Pennington said “It’s amazing how much the program has grown in such a short amount of time.”  FAIRHAVEN — Standing at just 5-foot-1 and 135 pounds Adam Marashio tends to go unnoticed on the football field That is until the ball is snapped and the Fairhaven senior lineman is pushing the opposition back “People look at him like he’s this really small kid but I don’t want to get blocked by him and I don’t think the other team does either,” said Fairhaven head coach Derek Almeida “He’s worked extremely hard to get to where he’s at and he comes out here and he excels “He’s absolutely dominating people right now and it is pretty amazing.”  Marashio had the best game of his career at left tackle on Friday night as Fairhaven’s offensive line dominated in a commanding 43-8 win over West Bridgewater at Alumni Stadium in South Coast Conference Gold Division action It was not thinking and just doing it,” he said That’s why it was extremely important for me I’m glad we did well as a team and not just me.” who is named after former Patriots kicker Adam Vinatieri didn’t start playing football until he got to Fairhaven High “I started as a wide receiver and a corner and then we realized I didn’t have (good) hands,” Marashio recalled ‘You’re fast and you’re strong’ because I went to the weight room program three days a week all of the time.” Fairhaven assistant coach Dana Almeida pulled Marashio aside one day and told him he should consider playing on the offensive line “I looked at him and I thought he was crazy,” Marashio recalled “I’m 5-1 and a quarter and 135 pounds on a good day Week 6: SouthCoast High School Football scores and highlights Fairhaven’s coaching staff created some packages last year that would utilize Marashio’s strengths to get him on the field ‘There is still stuff we can do with you even if it’s not conventional,’” he said “‘We love to shove the ball down opposing teams' throats so we can use your speed and your agility and your ability to get in between gaps and use it to our advantage.’ “They started putting in plays that would incorporate me specifically and built it around me so we could all work together as an offense.” With both of the team's tackles battling injuries Then an injury to Fairhaven’s projected starting left tackle opened the door for Marashio this year He’s always there and he lifts way more than me," said Fairhaven senior Ben Comey who plays right next to Marashio on the offensive line “I know every play Adam is trying his hardest and he’s doing his best and that’s what we like on this team Week 6: Breaking down every SouthCoast high school football game with previews and picks West Bridgewater head coach Justin Kogler said that Marashio stood out from the film he watched in preparation for Friday’s game I would take him on my team any day of the week and I’m sure any coach in the area would too.” Marashio also made contributions on special teams and defense against the Wildcats “He comes and plays a couple of snaps on special teams and defense He’s a really good football player,” Derek Almeida said Fairhaven senior running back Justin Marques tied his own school single-game record for touchdowns with five He scored four in the first half on runs of 17 After West Bridgewater fumbled on the opening possession of the third quarter Marques scored on a 3-yard run to extend the Blue Devils’ lead to 36-0 we dominated the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball and that’s the game,” Almeida said but they’re running through holes with a lot of push up front.” Almeida praised the blocking of seniors Richie Senna and Jarrod Frates and juniors Josh Vieira and Aaron Lague “I really liked our A-backs on the perimeter,” he said “They blocked much better for each other.” Kogler said it was tough to match up against a veteran Fairhaven squad “We’ve got two seniors on the field and we’re playing with sophomores and juniors against a senior-laden Fairhaven team that won the Super Bowl last year and that has a ton of guys back I knew there was a chance that could go this way The win was the fourth straight for the Blue Devils This is West Bridgewater’s first year in the South Coast Conference Gold Division following an independent schedule in recent years after leaving the Mayflower Athletic Conference “We’ve been independent for the last couple of years I think this is a good chance for us to play up in competition and it’s good for our power rankings It’s nice to be a part of a competitive league.”  F: Justin Marques 3 run (Jarrod Frates from Cameron Burke) F: Justin Marques 15 run (Tristan deMedeiros kick) F: Justin Marques 6 run (Josh Vieira from Cameron Burke) F: Justin hockey team this postseason The Redhawk defense has been lights out all season long allowing more than one goal just twice during the regular season That defensive effort has continued throughout the postseason as Frontier didn’t give up a goal en route to a Western Mass Class C championship before knocking off Franklin Tech 13th-seeded West Bridgewater found out just how hard it is to score on the Redhawks Frontier tallied twice in the second quarter and tacked three goals on in the fourth quarter all while its defense recorded its 11th shutout of the season to lift the fourth-seeded Redhawks into the quarterfinals with a 5-0 victory “I think they’re starting to peak at the right time,” Frontier coach Missy Mahar said “The regular season is a battle with who we play in the league and our crossovers Then we have the chance to play Greenfield in the postseason which is always a big rivalry “They start to switch gears to turn that on for the postseason because they know if you don’t win “There’s no second chances in states with single elimination You have to own that and work hard through that That’s something we’re drilling in since the state tournament started.”  The Redhawks (17-2-2) advanced to host the winner of No 12 Ipswich in the quarterfinals at a date and time to be determined “I think we had it in us to make a run like this,” Frontier’s Macy DeMaio said “It’s going to take a lot of grit and a total team effort to keep this going.”  the Redhawks have a deep forward group that can all put the ball in the cage as four different players tallied goals in the victory over the Wildcats (12-5-3) “Scoring comes from anyone on the forward line,” Mahar said someone else steps up and is able to produce produce and keep the same tempo of the game in We talk didn’t have to wait long for their second goal West Bridgewater goalie Allie Edgerly tried to clear the ball but it went right onto the stick of Ashlie Galenski and the junior fired it home to give Frontier its 2-0 halftime lead DeMaio scored her second of the game early in the fourth quarter off an assist from Harper Modestow as Addie Harrington and Lauryn Kalinowski netted back-to-back goals to close out the scoring DeMaio had the assist on Harrington’s tally while Heflin assisted Kalinowski’s goal We had a little bit of a slow start but I was really happy to see them pick it up after halftime and play the type of field hockey they’re capable of playing West Bridgewater stayed in it and gave us a good game They’re a resilient team so hats off to them.”  Frontier finished with 23 shots on goal and a 14-0 corner advantage Kyra Richards was called on to make just two saves in the victory With a tough opponent ahead in the quarterfinals Mahar is hoping to keep the momentum going into the next round “The plan is to keep this rolling,” Mahar said “We’ll enjoy this victory then prep for the next team we have to play.” you agree with our use of cookies to personalize your
