these courses teaches you course management especially if you don't hit it perfectly straight every time as they should be considering the name of the course The courses are all very walkable for people of all ages The only downfall is once the leaves start dropping it's tough to find your ball in the rough as there didn't seem to be any kind of leaf maintenance when my group was out there - which slowed down our pace of play The greens had also just been small tine aerated but having played the course the day prior I can say with confidence that these greens are typically in great shape Click the text box above to select the URL to share I can’t believe that I’ve lived in this area for about 30 years and had never played Bunker Hills Golf Course The course is famous as the location of the Minnesota Golf Hall of Fame and has been the venue of many state and national tournaments and qualifiers The course comprises three separate nines called North so this review does not address the North nine There are five tees ranging from 6,991 yards down to 5,517 yards The parkland style course is set on gently rolling terrain with no major elevation changes with a mix of mature evergreens and hardwoods and well-protected by at least two bunkers with only a few relatively straight fairways The par 3 third hole on the East nine features a green that is 52 yards deep so you may find yourself with a 100 foot putt if you don’t choose the right club off the tee An interesting feature of our round was the similarity of the final holes of each nine The East 9th hole is 361 yards from the white tee A small pond guards the inside of the dogleg and two bunkers will find balls that go straight and through the fairway the 9th hole on the West nine is 351 yards from the white tee and a really well-placed bunker caught two balls from our foursome that went a little too far and a little too straight I really enjoyed playing this course and will try to make up for not having played it before by returning in the near future to try the North nine It is a little confusing navigating from hole to hole especially when you are near the clubhouse You can end up on the wrong hole or be at a totally different course (North Directions are not marked very well but you will eventually figure it out They are currently going through renovations and you will be teeing off from the fairway which is not ideal I can give it a pass since its a quick renovation but it is definitely weird Their range and practice putting green is top class Nice pro shop with plenty of items to choose from Hopefully after the renovations are complete What is the address of East/West at Bunker Hills Golf Course East/West at Bunker Hills Golf Course is located at Hwy 242 & Foley Blvd Is East/West at Community College in Coon Rapids An Iowa family known for hosting late Soviet leader Nikita Khrushchev on their farm during the Cold War fetched a hefty $19.3 million for 2,000 acres sold at auction Tuesday even with permanent conservation easements tied to the farmland The five buyers of the Garst land were all Iowa farmers a Clive farmland management and brokerage company Peoples led the auction in Coon Rapids with local firm Community Insurance Agency big thing that farmers bought the land," Bruere said Tuesday "That tells me they understood the easements and were comfortable with the practices." The Garsts stipulated that the buyers carry on the family's efforts to build soil health and prevent erosion the family has adopted land-management practices that include no-till farming Bruere said it's hard to calculate how much the conservation easements given that cropland values are climbing in Iowa and likely will exceed highs seen in 2012 and 2013. Easements can lower land's value because they place restrictions on how it's used He said the Garsts' tillable farmland — used to raise corn and soybeans — brought in $11,461 an acre he sees cropland selling for $12,000-$12,500 an acre meaning the land went for a 5-10% discount indicate the difference was not significant.  including acreage that has been placed in federal conservation programs Audubon and Guthrie counties averaged $9,641 an acre More: The Garsts, with deep roots in Iowa agriculture, want the buyers of 2,000 acres to continue family's legacy given the Garsts' roots in Iowa agriculture introduced Pioneer hybrid corn seed in the western U.S through the Garst & Thomas Hybrid Seed Co. forging a tie with Kruschev that led to his 1959 visit The family eventually split off Garst Seed Co. which would become part of the global agribusiness Syngenta through a series of mergers The Garst seed plant in Coon Rapids closed in 2013 Bruere said 27 people bid on eight parcels of land Tuesday that ranged in size from about 50 to 460 acres. Bidders had to win a spot at the auction by submitting sealed offers earlier this month The 31 with the highest bids were allowed to participate Liz Garst, the family business manager has said the family plans to have Whiterock Conservancy a land trust with 5,500 acres her family donated near Coon Rapids, enforce the easements.  Some of the sale proceeds will be used to support Whiterock so it's able to accept other families' conservation easements to permanently protect their land management practices.  The conservancy seeks to pursue conservation through sustainable farming practices restoring the land's native oak savanna and prairie the environment and energy for the Register Reach her at deller@registermedia.com or 515-284-8457.  You may overvalue Minnesota West Lady Jays volleyball team has seen a lot of success this season They went 23-8 during the regular season and will now begin play in the NJCAA Region 13A Tournament They’ll face the Central Lakes Raiders Friday at 3 p.m at the Anoka-Ramsey Community College Performance Gym in Coon Rapids The game can be streamed for a fee through nspn.tv The Lady Jays will enter the matchup after posting a 13-3 record in the Minnesota College Athletic Conference They are third in the MCAC South division standings behind only M State-Fergus Falls and Century College Making the playoffs was a goal head coach Brittney McNab and the rest of the team set out at the beginning of the season after a 13-17 record the year before and nearly missing out on the region playoffs like I don't think it's actually sunk in yet But I haven't done it here as a coach and I don't think it's been done here in a long time,” McNab said after the final regular-season match last Friday “And that was the goal that these girls had set out like to make it that far and then to make it even further and hopefully we can accomplish that.” That goal created optimism and excitement around the Lady Jays going into the season but they knew there were some things to be worked on One of those things was team communication and chemistry The team highlighted things like team bonding throughout the year which has helped the team’s communication improve all season McNab said communication within the team is pretty steady I don't think anything has really lost communication with each other,” she said they hang out outside of volleyball and stuff like that so I don't think their communication has (gone down) they have lapses here and there on the court Another reason for the Lady Jays success is the combined leadership from their five returning sophomores and the key contributions from their talented incoming freshmen many players on the roster have made an impact on the team all season Freshman setter Lexi Schreurs is second among NJCAA Division III leaders in assists with 1,014 It took her only one season to pass the 1,000-assist milestone Ella Hesse is fourth in the NJCAA in kills with 414 and she is 22nd in the nation in digs with 410 Hattie DeVries and Ella Kamrud are both in the NJCAA top 50 in kills and Shawna Rogers is 12th in the nation in digs with 457 Kiarra Danielson has 343 digs this year and has served 44 aces Kat Polzine is top-five in the MCAC in aces with 52 She and DeVries also lead the team in blocks with 30 The Lady Jays have also fared well against some tough competition this year something they didn’t do as much in the past They beat a solid Rochester team twice and split their two matches with MCAC South-leading M State-Fergus Falls They were also very competitive in two matches against another conference foe Century College the Lady Jays face another tough test this afternoon against a 17-8 Central Lakes team The Raiders finished second in the MCAC North standings with a 10-2 conference record The two teams haven’t played each other this season but the Lady Jays are confident that they can make it out of the Region 13A bracket and get an automatic bid into the NJCAA Division III Volleyball Championship I think from the past couple of years we've struggled here at Minnesota West and I think this year we've just done a huge uplifting season,” Schreurs said so I think a lot of people on my team have confidence and I think we all want it The Willmar Velocity fast-pitch softball program had another good weekend Willmar's 12-and-under
