NC (WWAY) — The Whiteville Fire Marshal shuts down a building due to unsafe conditions
Officials say that the Fun-ctionz Venue & Lounge at 910 S
Madison Street was shut down over the weekend because it was operating illegally and having parties and that it may be connected to a police matter
Some of the conditions being reported are:
there was a shooting Saturday night at Fun-ctionz Venue & Lounge
There was an altercation inside the venue which then extended to the outside
The Chief said several parities were involved and there was an exchange of gunfire

NC (WWAY) — Whiteville Police say a second person has been arrested for their role in a shooting earlier in April
and the first person arrested for that shooting is also charged with murder for a different shooting only hours apart
According to police, on April 13, a shooting occurred that led to a vehicle crash at Washington Street and J.K
was airlifted to Novant Health New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington
Seven hours before that shooting that led to a vehicle crash
police say there was a different shooting at Fun-ctionz on 910 S
McMillian has now also been charged for that incident
and a second person is now in custody for that incident as well
detectives with the Whiteville Police Department went to Lumberton and arrested Samantha Crawford
The suspects have been charged with Discharging a Weapon at a Moving Vehicle and are currently being held at the Columbus County Law Enforcement Center
Samantha Crawford received a $2,500 secured bond and Kapri Oman McMillian received a $25,000 secured bond

(WECT) - The family of a man who was shot and killed in Whiteville in April 2023 has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the City of Whiteville
and negligent infliction of emotional distress by the Whiteville Police Department and the NC State Bureau of Investigation
The lawsuit alleges Edwards was a witness to a murder allegedly committed by Natrell McKinnies
who was arrested and charged with Edwards’ murder
McKinnies sent threatening letters to Edwards
“The Whiteville Police Department and the SBI
exposed Edwards as a known witness in McKinnies’ 2019 murder of Sadler by disclosing his name through discovery,” the lawsuit states
Edwards allegedly told a police officer about the threats
and the officer he spoke to told him to bring the letters in
The lawsuit alleges that after handing over the threatening letters
the family is seeking damages for harm suffered
including but not limited to emotional distress
McKinnies has not been convicted of either murder charge
WECT has reached out to the City of Whiteville for a response to the complaint

Lieutenant Marquise Blanks from the Whiteville Fire Department and Lieutenant Scott Moody from the Whiteville Police Department gave the unconscious puppy oxygen after pulling it from the fire
it was taken to an emergency veterinarian by Whiteville Animal Control

32-Year-old Kapri Oman McMillian of Whiteville was arrested on Wednesday
two counts of possession of a firearm by a felon
and discharging certain barreled weapons into occupied property
Police say this is an active investigation

NC (WWAY) — First responders in Whiteville helped save a puppy from a structure fire Monday afternoon
the Whiteville Fire Department and the Whiteville Police Department gave the puppy oxygen after they pulled it out of the burning building
The puppy regained consciousness and was taken to an emergency vet clinic by animal
a 3/4 scale replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial
will be escorted through Whiteville today around 12:30 today (Tuesday)
The caravan with the wall will be escorted by veterans motorcycle groups from across the country
Businesses and residents are encouraged to welcome the procession
The caravan will come around the courthouse
then down Madison Street then travel Lee to Powell Boulevard on its way to the Veterans Memorial Park on U.S
The Wall That Heals will be open 24 hours a day Thursday through Sunday morning at the park
An education center will feature a display of items left at the memorial in Washington
as well as screens showing photographs of every American killed in the Vietnam War whose name is on the wall
is asking amateur and professional photographers to share their pictures of the procession
Events for the visit include a welcome home ceremony at 6 p.m
Thursday; Agent Orange Awareness ceremony Friday at 7:30 p.m.

The wall is a 3/3 scale replica of the Vietnam Memorial in Washington
It features all 58,000 names of Americans killed in the Vietnam War
The mobile education center also features photos of each American killed there
and memorabilia placed at the Wall in Washington
and the wall will open Thursday morning through Sunday afternoon

(WECT) - The Wall That Heals memorial events are taking place in Whiteville this week
and hundreds of motorcyclists escorted the replica of the Vietnam Memorial from Washington D.C
“To stand beside a Vietnam Veteran like Mr
Clemmons and watch our hometown come together in this way was humbling beyond words,” said CCSO Sheriff Bill Rogers
The memorial will be on display at the Veterans Memorial Park of America from April 24 through 27
Several events are being held at the memorial throughout the week

The event will include vendors, food trucks, free hotdogs, kids activities, and opportunities to buy, sell, and trade farm animals.

— We have new information regarding an altercation between two men at a local gas station in the late hours Friday evening that turned deadly
29-year-old Montavis “Money Moe” Moore is facing first-degree murder
that stem from an incident that occurred around 11:30 p.m
January 25 at the Shell Station off of US-64 in Whiteville
Moore and 43-year-old Jermaine “CoJack” Norment can be seen on video surveillance at two separate gas pumps having a heated conversation
Whiteville police say video surveillance obtained by police shows Norment walking towards the gas station door then turning back to speak to Moore
Moore can be seen pulling out a pistol from his jacket pocket and fires one shot into Norment’s chest
Norment walks toward the store and falls at the front door as Moore gets into his vehicle and leaves
they performed life-saving measures until EMS arrived and transported Norment to the Bolivar ER where he was pronounced dead
Police identified Moore and were notified of his residence where they found the same vehicle matching the one in the surveillance video
“Our community works very well with us
and that was one reason we were able to apprehend the suspect as quick as we did,” said Whiteville Police Department Chief Ben Davis
