2025 9:08 AM EDTBruce Willis' wife Emma Heming Willis has been the primary caretaker of her husband since he received a devastating health diagnosis three years ago The Die Hard star was diagnosed with aphasia in 2022 and then frontotemporal dementia — a brain disease that affects a person's personality behavior and ability to speak — in 2023.  Heming Willis took a trip down memory lane looking at some old photos of her husband and their two daughters looking at old photos," she wrote on her Instagram Stories Heming Willis shared a little bit about the journey she's been on to raise awareness for people with FTD and more specifically to draw attention to the hardships faced by caretakers.  "There has been nothing greater than finding my community," she captioned another post on her Instagram Stories on May 3 Heming Willis also admitted that she's "terrified" of public speaking but she pushes herself because she feels as though she's been given a duty to use her platform and her voice to help others even though her husband has changed over the past couple of years "In those moments when I want to allow my fear to stop me Emma,'" she captioned a photo of her and her husband.  In the wake of everything that she's going through, Heming Willis decided to write a book aimed at helping others in the caretaker roll. "The Unexpected Journey: Finding Strength, Hope and Yourself on the Caregiving Path" will be released on Sept. 9, 2025. The main message the book hopes to send is that "you are not alone." Police investigate Uber ride that took 14-year-old girl across Michiganby Abigail Taylor | News Channel 3 — A recent incident involving a 14-year-old Barry County girl raises concern to what authorities have said is a rare but very real danger – criminals using rideshare services to abduct minors The Northville Township Police Department reported 22-year-old Charles Willis used Uber to transport the teenager from West Michigan to his home in Metro Detroit where he kept her inside of his basement and allegedly raped her Willis' criminal record shows a prior accusation of third degree criminal sexual conduct from an incident in at the end of January 2025 "If there's anybody else out there that had the same experience with this individual or anybody else for that matter please reach out," Lieutenant Patrick Reinke with the Northville Township Police Department urged Willis was able to arrange and pay for the two-hour-long Uber ride for the minor which brought her all the way to his Northville home from Barry County Further descriptive details will not be released to protect the identity of the victim A 2022 FBI report indicates criminals are exploiting rideshare apps to abduct minors reducing the likelihood of being caught while transporting victims "There are a lot of people out there that try to exploit that for some very horrible reasons," Reinke said Uber's policy advises against driving unaccompanied minors unless arranged through its "teen app" by a confirmed parent or guardian An Uber spokesperson told News Channel 3 that the guidelines that drivers should cancel trips involving unaccompanied minors with no risk of penalty and select "unaccompanied minor" as the reason for doing so News Channel 3 asked the spokesperson how the service is validating the identity of parents or guardians as well as how drivers are being trained in identifying minors According to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children website Uber trained its drivers in 2018 to identify minors it remains unclear if similar training has occurred since 2018 officers are working to obtain records from the rideshare app to understand how Willis managed to arrange the ride and whether the driver observed anything suspicious the Michigan State Police is emphasizing the importance of internet safety for children noting that one in five children receive unwanted sexual solicitations online Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis looks on during a hearing on the Georgia election interference case Attorney Ashleigh Merchant looks on in court Fulton County Superior Court Judge Rachel Krause found that the failures to comply with the records law “were intentional and were substantially groundless and vexatious.” Because Willis and her office “lacked substantial justification” for not complying Merchant is entitled to attorneys’ fees and litigation expenses totaling just over $54,000 Krause ordered Willis to search for and turn over all records responsive to Merchant’s requests The documents and payment are to be delivered within 30 days of Friday’s order A spokesperson for Willis’ office said Monday that they plan to appeal the order Merchant said she filed the lawsuit as a last resort after Willis’ office repeatedly failed to produce documents “We definitely didn’t want to file suit,” she said “They were just ignoring it and telling us that documents didn’t exist that we knew existed and resisting at every move Willis’ office was “openly hostile” to Merchant and testimony showed that Merchant’s requests “were handled differently than other requests,” Krause wrote in her order Open records officer Dexter Bond said during a hearing that he refused to communicate by phone with Merchant even though it was his regular practice to call the requester if a request was unclear Treating Merchant’s requests this way “indicates a lack of good faith,” Krause wrote Among the records Merchant sought were reports provided to Willis’ office by companies hired “to track the impact of Willis’ statements to the media and whether such statements were viewed favorably by the public,” according to a court filing The filing says Willis began contracting with those companies just before she and her office sought to indict Trump Merchant also asked for a copy of the non-disclosure or confidentiality agreement that employees of the district attorney’s office are required to sign as well as a list of attorneys Willis had hired Even if the Georgia Supreme Court agrees to hear the case and eventually rules in Willis’ favor it seems unlikely that she will be able to prosecute Trump while he’s the sitting president who is primary carer for the actor since his dementia diagnosis in 2023 says there is ‘a broader story’ to tell about their plight Emma Heming Willis, the primary carer for her husband, the actor Bruce Willis, who is suffering from a rare form of dementia, has issued a statement in the wake of the deaths of Gene Hackman and his wife, Betsy Arakawa An investigation by local authorities in New Mexico concluded last week that Arakawa died of a rare respiratory disease around seven days before her husband meaning that it was likely he spent a week by himself disorientated and increasingly malnourished His Alzheimer’s disease led investigators to suspect he may have remained unaware his wife had died was eventually found near the entrance to their home in Santa Fe Speaking on Instagram said she hoped the tragic deaths of the couple and one of their dogs would prompt people to reflect on the “broader story” “I do really believe that there is some learning,” she said and that it is so important that we show up for them so that they can continue to show up for their person.” She continued: “I think that there’s this common misconception that caregivers Willis, 69, was diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia in 2023, the year after he announced his retirement due to aphasia as well as his daughters and ex-wife Demi Moore have been praised for their candour discussing his condition and their support of the former action star “Having resources and information readily available is imperative,” she has said of the book “I know between my experience and other care partners that I have spoken to; our stories are unfortunately similar.” Gene Hackman and Betsy Arakawa in 1989 Photograph: Landmark Media/AlamyQuestions have been raised by many about why Hackman and his wife did not appear to have a more robust support network in place The circumstances of Hackman’s death have substantially affected the legacy of one of Hollywood’s most venerated stars with his and Arakawa’s plight highlighting the obstacles faced by vulnerable elderly people and those who look after them said the Government plans to reduce spending by “billions” of dollars cutting programmes started under previous governments and reducing planned spending All this to free up cash for what she is billing as one of the tightest Budgets in a decade The announcement was made in a pre-Budget speech to the Hutt Valley Chamber of Commerce “The Government’s savings drive has freed-up billions of dollars,” Willis said referring to programmes that have been cut and planned spending increases that will now no longer go ahead “Those savings will now be re-deployed to fund New Zealand’s most pressing priorities,” she said Willis announced there would be just $1.3 billion worth of new discretionary operating spending (known as an operating allowance) in this year’s Budget — this is the smallest allowance in nominal terms since 2015 The $1.3b figure itself represents a substantial cut to what was planned Willis said the Budget would include $2.4b of new operating spending Treasury said $2.5b in new spending would be needed just to fund the increased cost of delivering services Willis and the Government will need to cut billions of dollars worth of spending across the government in order to fund the growing cost of existing services Just how the Government plans to do this is a mystery for now — in December Treasury said there was about $700m worth of new spending left in the Budget, after Willis pre-allocated funds for health and raided the 2025 Budget to pay for the funding of new medicines for Pharmac. Willis said the Government had “undertaken a significant savings drive” to free up money for this Budget “That effort has involved Ministers identifying areas of previously committed spending that can no longer be justified in light of the challenging circumstances New Zealand now faces “We’ve analysed spending decisions made by previous governments and re-evaluated them in the context of today’s constraints “This has involved a line-by-line review of previous funding commitments including money put aside in contingency,” she said Willis said the tighter allowance will mean the Government will spend “less over the forecast period than would have otherwise been the case” “This will reduce the amount of extra borrowing our country needs to do over the next few years and it will keep us on track towards balanced books and debt reduction,” she said Willis said that these tight spending requirements would mean no “lolly scramble” of new goodies in the Budget Most Government departments have no increase to their baseline funding If they need more funding to keep the lights on that funding is paid for by cutting spending elsewhere Willis said the Government will still invest in “health business growth and targeted cost of living relief” however these investments would in large part be paid for by reprioritisations Willis said Treasury’s latest forecasts showed the economy was still on track to grow in the coming year but worsening economic conditions since US President Donald Trump’s “Liberation Day” tariffs had weighed down the forecasts “reducing their assumptions of real GDP growth in New Zealand in 2025 and 2026” She said this lower growth required threatened to throw its fiscal strategy off track Treasury forecast a return to surplus under the new OBEGALx measure by 2029 — and Willis’ fiscal strategy is to target a surplus one year earlier She said the small amount of new spending in this Budget means that Treasury’s latest numbers — which are not the final numbers for the Budget — still forecast a surplus in 2029 “The reality of global economic events is that if we’d pushed on with a larger operating allowance then we would be staring down the barrel of even bigger deficits and debt,” Willis said Willis said the savings exercise actually predated the economic chaos caused by Liberation Day “We had been working hard for several months to find savings to support the investments we wanted to make and to support the path back to balanced books and debt reduction - so we had created some room to make some good choices when faced with the final forecasts,” she said Willis said that most of the cuts would come to programmes introduced by the previous Government although some cuts would be made to programmes that have been around for longer Willis revealed on Newstalk ZB’s Heather du Plessis-Allan Drive on Monday she would not be making tax changes to tax charities in the Budget The Government had openly been investigating changing the way charities are taxed so businesses that operate as charities are treated like businesses and pay company tax “I can confirm that [no changes are coming at the Budget] because we are continuing work in this area sharp consultation with the charities sector and that has thrown up two key things: that is the potential revenue the Government would get from this is pretty small .. so it’s not essential to our Budget that we hurry these changes through “What officials have advised is the consultation has uncovered a lot of complexity about definitions and rules and how charities would react in practice,” Willis said This could mean changes are coming in future I’m very committed to making sure we’ve got a fair system with high integrity We will be making changes in this space but I don’t want to rush it and get it wrong,” she said Labour leader Chris Hipkins said the spending reductions were an invitation to young New Zealanders to move overseas “New Zealanders are seeing the true price of tax cuts,” Hipkins said Hipkins said the Government should not have pushed ahead with its tax plan in the last Budget “They have no solutions to the challenges facing New Zealand They have no vision for the future,” he said Green Party co-leader Chlöe Swarbrick warned Willis’ “slash and burn economics” would only increase the cost of living “They’ve announced they’re going to go harder shredding the services we all rely on meaning life is set to get harder and more expensive for regular people “This is the austerity playbook: defund public services to failure then privatise; take the so-called ‘cost’ off the Government’s books and watch those costs rise for regular people,” she said Thomas Coughlan is the NZ Herald political editor and covers politics from Parliament He has worked for the Herald since 2021 and has worked in the Press Gallery since 2018 The minister says she's changed her processes after admitting processes were 'untidy' Moore's post included rare family photos of Willis There are enough stars that have cameoed in "The Simpsons" to cover the entire Springfield Walk of Fame and back again. Dustin Hoffman, Meryl Streep, U2, and Daniel Radcliffe (who has voiced more than one character) are just some of the names that've shared the animated space with Homer (Dan Castellaneta) and the rest of that beloved family Three names that you have never seen on the end credits were three iconic action heroes that were scheduled to make an appearance but unfortunately never did: Arnold Schwarzenegger It turns out that the heroes who dominated the silver screen in the '80s and early '90s never swung by the home of 742 Evergreen Terrace even after they were explicitly written into an episode episode 10 of "The Simpsons," entitled "$pringfield (or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love Legalized Gambling)," saw Mr and Willis agreed to get in the recording booth for the episode as long as their newly opened chain of restaurants While the writing team adhered to the request it was no match for the trio's busy schedules which ultimately had no space for coming on the show after all the Planet Hollywood plug and its owner's appearance was ripped from the episode entirely and none of the aforementioned stars have turned up in the show since the series hasn't stopped making jokes about them including one recurring character that spoofed Schwarzenegger himself The history of celebrity cameos in "The Simpsons" not going well doesn't just stop with Schwarzenegger, Stallone, and Willis. Jim Carrey backed out of a poorly received episode, and some guest appearances have aged as poorly as Fat Tony's rat milk one character that felt like a compromise for the missed visit from Arnie was Springfield's own action star along with another Simpsonized Schwarzenegger variant that made his way into the Oval Office Rainier Wolfcastle was an indiscreet riff on Schwarzenegger both in appearance and voice making terrible puns with a deadpan delivery just like the real deal You might remember him from such films as: "McBain," "McBain II: You Have the Right to Remain Dead," and don't forget about "I Shoot Your Face" and "I Shoot Your Face Again." Over the years the character has become more than just a cutaway gag with Milhouse (Pamela Hayden) dating his daughter at one point and Homer even taking exercise tips from Wolfcastle after accidentally wandering into a gym It was in "The Simpsons Movie" that the writers went the extra mile, though, by including the character of President Schwarzenegger. While never fully confirmed to be the Schwarzenegger we know and loved, the appearance and voice made it obvious who the writers were poking fun at, even if he was there to lead and not to read A new café has opened in Endicott where customers can eat and drink while playing board games Alla Board Café moved to the Binghamton area about five years ago to study nursing at Binghamton University Willis stayed in the area and began her career as an emergency room nurse Torn between opening a doggy daycare and a board game café since she believed the concept would be new to the area More: 2025 Binghamton Bridge Run: What to know about race day schedule, parking and traffic "I thought that it's a great idea to bring the community together," Willis said Willis said business has been growing and turning into everything she hoped it would be "it was the first time I had seen all of the tables full It felt like exactly what I wanted to bring to the area." Detectives learned that Charles Willis, 22, contacted a 14-year-old girl on Snapchat on April 25, 2025. He reportedly arranged and paid for an Uber to bring the girl to his home. On April 27 at around 5:30 a.m., the girl was found walking alone in the area of 7 Mile and Sheldon roads. Northville Township police executed a search warrant at Willis’ home on April 27. He was then arrested. According to investigators, he had prior contact with other law enforcement agencies related to sexually inappropriate behavior and alleged attempts to entice young girls. Willis was always a consistent worker; like fellow ‘90s superstar Nicolas Cage he has so many movies that there are entire subgenres in his filmography like Movies Where Bruce Willis Appears As Himself or Some Approximation of It (The Player; Loaded Weapon 1; Ocean’s 12; Nancy Drew; What Just Happened; The Lego Movie 2) Movies Where Bruce Willis Acts Opposite a Child (North; Mercury Rising; The Sixth Sense; The Kid); and Bruce Willis Assembling the Troops Throughout the Ages (The Siege; Hart’s War; Tears of the Sun) None of these subgenres are represented on this list of the best Bruce Willis movies—no We’re also leaving out anything with Die Hard in the title except the terrible fifth one; who doesn’t know this these best Bruce Willis movies have been selected to pay tribute to Willis’s old-fashioned strengths as a leading man and occasional character actor Though he understandably became identified with action movies in the wake of Die Hard he worked across genres like a studio contract player in the 1940s often with steadfast understatement and efficiency (though he could ham it up when required These thirteen movies are ranked by their strength as Bruce Willis movies meaning his specific performance is given greater weight than it might otherwise bear especially given his willingness to take less-glamorous supporting parts in offbeat films The movies aren’t quite the same without him Columbia Pictures/Everett CollectionOne of the most endearing elements of Willis’s career, and why it’s easy to overlook all the 15-minute walk-ons in junk later in his filmography, is that he seems to really like working, even or especially if that means taking an under-the-radar part. The neo-noir Mortal Thoughts was a pet project of Willis’s then-wife Demi Moore who gives one of her best performances as a New Jersey woman whose best friend (Glenn Headley) may be fixing to murder her abusive lout of a husband—and Willis stepped in to play the lout Spoiler: He does get murdered relatively early in the picture but not before giving a truly convincing performance as a total dirtbag given to only the merest flashes of charm Plenty of early ‘90s thrillers took inspiration from ‘40s and ‘50s noir taking the material in a more sexualized direction; Mortal Thoughts certainly takes advantage of greater freedom to depict sex and violence but it’s grittier than your standard erotic thriller Willis showed further loyalty to director Alan Rudolph by later starring in his perversely faithful adaptation of Kurt Vonnegut’s Breakfast of Champions an even less commercial prospect than this one Glen Wilson/Warner Bros./ Everett CollectionMaybe I'm giving this extra points for being Willis' last real one a private detective and father figure to a bunch of grown-up orphans who’s living with Tourette syndrome and OCD Lionel takes it over; the movie is a showcase for Norton who also adapted the screenplay and directed and this is another case of Willis supporting someone else’s dream project with a supporting role I can remember the pure sense of comfort Willis’s presence provided; his warmth doesn’t always emerge in his crime pictures just sweet enough to create a character worth missing but not so treacly that it feels like a blatant manipulation his death within half an hour of this one feels both earned and realistically abrupt 300 sort of ate this movie’s lunch a couple of years later (and like 300 less-successful follow-up featuring Eva Green naked in 3-D in 2014) But around a time when Willis was playing a lot of police officers —Hostage; 16 Blocks; things of that nature—Sin City stands out for both distilling and distorting the grizzled-unsmiling-cop routine into its near-black-and-white a lot of generic Willis performances that coast on his natural charisma and the pre-existing rapport he developed with audiences boozy/smoky cop on the edge and in need of redemption But it shows you just how much context matters because in this weird and extremely entertaining Robert Rodriguez experiment Willis becomes a near-parodic archetype and a figure of instant authority in a young-skewing cast TriStar Pictures/Everett CollectionWillis hit an extraordinary run of world-beating flops in the early nineties with a major role in Brian De Palma’s adaptation of The Bonfire of the Vanities followed by the imposition of Hudson Hawk on unsuspecting financers who describe an egomaniacal producer-star Willis insisting on constant rewrites (The movie was his idea and he also receives a “story by” credit on the finished film.) It’s a well-kept secret a loopy and whimsical adventure picture about a professional thief roped into heisting the hidden components to create a lost da Vinci machine Rather than simply knocking off Indiana Jones for the Die Hard age Willis introduces elements of screwball farce and Looney Tunes slapstick into the would-be blockbuster But it’s a better goofy-guys-on-a-crazy-trip comedy than that summer’s City Slickers The Fifth Element is (in this context alone) his version of Star Wars trash-compacted into a single piece of entertainment Warner Bros./Everett CollectionAn early sign of Willis’s seriousness as an actor: He followed Die Hard helping his teenage niece Samantha (Emily Lloyd) learn more about her dad not exactly Die Harder (though he did do that one the following year) and while Willis hits some of the haunted-vet notes you might expect he also has scenes that show more than they tell as when taciturn Emmett shows his gentler side interacting with animals underseen piece of work that was recently and deservedly featured in a Criterion Channel Vietnam collection Universal Pictures/Everett CollectionFrom the gentle to the venal: Willis took another great chance by playing the faithless a vicious satire of vanity featuring Meryl Streep and Goldie Hawn as aging women quite literally maiming each other over the opportunity for eternal life—and the nebbishy plastic surgeon whose services become increasingly outmoded as the more fantastical elements of the movie take hold It would be churlish to say that in such a woman-driven narrative the male lead gives the best performance; I will say it was more than clear what Streep and Hawn could do with this sort of grasping while Willis still operated with the element of surprise Alan Markfield/TriStar Pictures/Everett CollectionThe last great year for Willis, maybe his best year ever just in terms of movie quality, came ten years before his retirement, when he starred in new movies from Wes Anderson and Rian Johnson Looper felt more in the Willis wheelhouse at the time; whether because of his Fifth Element success or a personal affinity for the genre he seemed to have a soft spot for science fiction and Looper is one of his best forays into that genre It’s a time-travel story about Joe (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) an assassin retained to knock off people who have been thrown back in time as a means of disappearing them from their present; naturally Joe one day winds up staring an older version of himself in the eye He doesn’t hesitate—but Old Joe (Willis) sure does determined to change his future by fixing things in the past while his younger counterpart tries to kill him The story gets even more complicated than that yet stays emotionally legible because of the mirrored switcheroo executed by Gordon-Levitt and Willis: The former’s pitiless semi-nihilism morphs into redemptive protective instincts for a young boy and his mother while the latter’s personal redemption slips through his fingers in desperation Paramount Pictures/Everett CollectionRelated to the Bruce Willis As “Bruce Willis” Cameo is the Bruce Willis Character Actor Side Career Rather than featured roles in ensembles like Death Becomes Her or Pulp Fiction Willis sometimes pops up as a workaday supporting role a contractor at odds with Sully (Paul Newman) Willis is just playing a regular guy—and not in the relatable-everyman sense of the word He’s not malicious enough to be the villain of the piece Willis plays all of this stuff just right—as good in his own smaller-scale way It never feels as if you’re watching a scene where Paul Newman They genuinely come across like two guys in a small upstate New York town and Uma Thurman got the Academy Award nominations a bump from pretty starlet to frequent leading lady But man: Willis is just astonishingly good in Pulp Fiction but he’s awfully charming in it.) As Butch the boxer who takes a bribe to throw a fight and accidentally kills his opponent in the ring before going on the run he comes across with surprising tenderness at first—a film-noir antihero pushed too far but redeemed by the love of a good woman (and his rapport with a weirdly seductive cab driver in the film’s most endlessly drawn-out scene) But when he realizes his wife Fabienne (Maria de Medeiros) has forgotten to pack his father’s treasured watch for their escape he flies into a terrifying rage that offers a glimpse of the demons he’s dealing with also puts a comic button on the scene by having him softly apologize to Fabienne for his outburst back to screaming and swearing up a storm.) Then and he kills the movie’s ostensible main character halfway through his story.) Travolta but when the movie needs its greatest streak of sustained tension Willis is the professional Tarantino trusted Niko Tavernise/Focus Features/Everett CollectionThere’s a knock on Wes Anderson that save the occasional irascible and undeniable figure like Gene Hackman or Ralph Fiennes he tends to flatten all of his actors into a similarly unemotive deadpan I prefer to think of it as him stripping some of his favorite movie stars down to their essence revealing new layers of humanity in their seemingly blank affect unexpectedly placed in charge of another kid; familiar stuff for him that doesn’t do justice to how affecting he is with the usual thriller melodrama peeled away Captain Duffy Sharp doesn’t have much backstory (we know he had an affair with the mother of Suzy one of the two kids who run off together to set the story in motion) which somehow only enhances his low hum of loneliness Willis didn't join the unofficial Anderson rep company; he probably wouldn't have been a great fit for Grand Budapest Hotel and most of Anderson’s other films would have been made during his cognitive decline While it would have been wonderful to see him pop up again this also makes his presence in Moonrise Kingdom all the more special Toss a Sunday School shoe through an Anderson movie and you’ll hit a Tilda Swinton or an Adrien Brody; Willis seems as if he’s still dwelling on that quaint New England island Buena Vista Pictures/Everett CollectionI love M. Night Shyamalan especially his contained yet rococo later-period work but I think most of his partisans will agree that after a few movies it became hard not to notice that his films tend to sound a certain way—they're written with a particular 1950s-B-movie-meets-George-Lucas verbal clunkiness that you just have to go with If anything disguised that quality in his earliest hits who in both The Sixth Sense and Unbreakable lends the material such quiet aching melancholy that it may obscure how infrequently his adult characters sound quite like real people that Willis never succumbed to the Marvel/DC morass and instead got his superhero kicks as the anguished David Dunn—who returned for a brief appearance in Split and an appropriately downbeat ending in the underrated Glass—in a film that mostly uses camera tricks and suspension of disbelief (rather than CG fireworks) to show off the powers he belatedly realizes he possesses — A 14-year-old Barry County girl is back home after allegedly being kidnapped held captive inside of a basement and raped by a 22-year-old man from Metro Detroit according to a report from the Northville Township Police Department Further identifying information about the girl will not be released to protect her safety Charles Willis was arraigned on April 30 in the 35th District Court on nine felony charges Willis is currently being held in the Wayne County Jail on a $1 million bond (no 10%) the investigation began after a concerned community member called 911 around 5:30 a.m on April 27 to report a teenage girl walking alone on 7 Mile Road near Sheldon Road who shared that she had escaped from a home nearby where she had been held in a basement for more than 24 hours “She was very brave in that she was able to tell us what happened to her,” Northville Township Police Lieutenant Patrick Reinke said Detectives learned that Willis had connected with the teen on Snapchat Police said he developed enough of a relationship to gain the girl's trust then arranged and paid for an Uber to bring her from Barry County --about two hours away-- to his Northville Township home she was instructed to stay in the basement Authorities are investigating if anyone else was home at the time of her captivity and escape detectives obtained a search warrant and arrested Willis at his home Reinke said Willis was cooperative during the arrest The Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office quickly issued charges before Willis could be released from custody because of how we’ve seen trends in these types of crimes in the past we are very concerned that there may be other victims out there,” Reinke said “By the time someone is caught by police for a crime at this level Investigators noted that Willis has a history of inappropriate behavior involving minors and had prior contact with law enforcement News Channel 3 looked at Willis' criminal history and discovered an ongoing case involving a charge of third degree criminal sexual conduct out of Macomb County from an incident on Jan the preliminary court process for this case is now underway A probable cause conference is scheduled for May 9 with a preliminary examination currently set for May 16 That hearing will determine whether there is enough evidence to send the case to Wayne County Circuit Court for trial the defendant has the right to waive that hearing which would move the case more quickly to the circuit level for possible plea negotiations Wayne County Assistant Prosecutor Maria Miller declined to comment on the case Reinke emphasized the broader warning for parents in regard to social media apps like Snapchat “It provides a tremendous amount of access between individuals that seek to victimize minors unless you have a parent who’s really paying attention to their social media habits they might not even know that anything’s going on," Reinke said The Northville Township Police Department is urging anyone who believes they or their child may have been in contact with Willis to call Northville Township's Detective Bureau at 248-349-9400 or reach out to a mental health professional NORTHVILLE TOWNSHIP I would say he’s a bad boy,” said a long-time neighbor of 22-year-old Charles Willis known to a neighbor on Pickford street for decades as “Charlie.” “There’s been three occasions where the Northville police have been here and not just one car was charged with allegedly luring a girl to his home using Snapchat and buying a two-hour Uber ride Detectives learned that Willis contacted the 14-year-old girl on Snapchat on April 25 but had been communicating with her “for a while.” He reportedly arranged and paid for an Uber to bring the girl to his home. Authorities said she lives two hours away in Barry County “This is an adult who contacted a minor teenager and managed to convince her to do some terrible things,” said Lieutenant Pat Rienke with the Northville Township Police Department Police said Willis instructed the young teen to hide out in the basement of his home then sexually assaulted the teen and isolated her for two days the girl was found walking alone in the area of 7 Mile and Sheldon roads with a blanket wrapped around her not being able to reach out and call for help or have the ability to reach out to someone and say ‘I need some help right now,’ I’d imagine it’s very terrifying,” said Lt Willis had prior contact with other law enforcement agencies related to sexually inappropriate behavior and alleged attempts to entice young girls Roseville Police confirm to Local 4 that Willis was charged just five months ago with felony sexual assault involving a minor in their city Willis allegedly met a girl between the ages of 13 and 16 and again maintained a relationship through Snapchat But police said a visiting judge gave Willis a $5,000 personal bond back in January of 2025 Many are worried there may be more victims out there still investigating — trying to determine if there’s any other victims,” said Lt “The public’s help is tremendously helpful enticing a girl under 16 for immoral purposes His bond was set at $1 million, and he is currently being held at the Wayne County Jail. While he is due back in court on May 9 in Northville, an emergency hearing will address his bond on May 5 for his alleged crimes out of Roseville. Anyone who believes they or their child may have been in contact with Willis, or may be a victim, is asked to contact the Northville Township Police Detective Bureau at (248) 349-9400. industry to a breaking point TNC/Willis launch innovative solution to improve insurance availability and affordability announced today a first-of-its-kind insurance policy that takes into account efforts to mitigate fire risk the $2.5 million wildfire resilience insurance coverage has been developed for Tahoe Donner Association (Tahoe Donner) a private homeowners association in Truckee Energy and the Environment (CLEE) at the University of California the wildfire resilience insurance policy was developed and placed to demonstrate lower premium pricing and improved availability where ecological forest practices have taken place Such techniques include tree thinning to improve the health and growth of the remaining trees and planned fires to clear out flammable vegetation both proven to reduce wildfire risk and make forests healthier Tahoe Donner was selected as a partner for this policy due to its cutting-edge Forest Health Management Program which began in 1992 and evolved from trying to create a healthy forest to mitigate climate and wildfire impacts Insurance policies written in areas benefiting from forest treatment have previously not accounted for risk reduction from forest fire mitigation covering 1,345 acres of Tahoe Donner’s forested and recreation land has a 39% lower premium and 89% lower deductible than would have been the case without nature-based forest management With insurers increasingly declining to write and renew insurance in California and other states as wildfire risks and claims costs continue to rise this groundbreaking nature-based solution provides a new and urgently needed approach to managing wildfire risk “The forest management work completed by Tahoe Donner by removing fuel that could burn and leading to a lower fire risk has considerably reduced the premium and deductible in this insurance policy.” “At a pivotal moment for California’s insurance market Willis has worked across the industry to bring this solution to Tahoe Donner placing the insurance with Globe Underwriting in a positive step toward a more resilient and sustainable insurance industry.” Globe Underwriting (formerly Forest Re) is internationally recognized for excellence in forestry risk assessment and profiling and provided the essential empirical analysis to support the premium and deductible reduction The Nature Conservancy in California: “By placing this innovative insurance product we hope to inspire other insurance underwriters to account for the benefit of thinning and prescribed fire and increase the implementation of this type of work more broadly.” and former California Insurance Commissioner: “Federal homeowners’ associations and businesses are doing the right thing to reduce wildfire risk and invest in nature-based forest management The improved price and availability of this pioneering insurance policy demonstrate that home and business insurers can and should renew and write property insurance in California and elsewhere in the United States where forest treatment is undertaken.” Tahoe Donner general manager: “Tahoe Donner has been tested with fires that have come to the borders of the community It slowed the spread of the fire to give firefighters enough time to stop it from impacting our community We are proud to be a leader in this field.” This announcement comes amid a challenging insurance landscape in California and across the United States Thousands of residents in the Pacific Palisades had their insurance non-renewed just weeks before the devastating Los Angeles
