Doyle Elementary School in Wood-Ridge for a reported fire at 2:19 p.m. Tuesday, said a Facebook post from the borough Fire Department Crews arrived to find building materials burning on the second floor of a new wing under construction An investigation revealed that a heater caught fire, leading to minor damage of construction equipment and temporary scaffolding, Wood-Ridge Mayor Paul Sarlo said in a statement on the school website The fire was extinguished by members of the construction crew resulting in a plume of smoke over the area which serves children in kindergarten through third grade were immediately evacuated onto adjacent streets as emergency responders performed a check of the building The investigation found no lingering smoke or hazardous gases and there was no damage to the structure under construction Everyone was allowed to reenter the building at 2:55 p.m. Parents were asked to pick up their children at the Wood-Ridge Avenue entrances construction on the new wing was also set to resume after a safety review Wednesday morning the department praised school staff and Wood-Ridge police officers "for conducting a quick and orderly evacuation of students from the building and moving them away from the area of the incident."
