The Flatonia Bulldog baseball team defeated the Port Aransas Marlins over the weekend to win their opening bi-district round of the UIL state baseball playoffs
This was a best two out of three series between the two squads
Flatonia won Game 3 Saturday in Beeville at Coastal Bend College by a 6-1 score to advance to this week’s Area round
The Bulldogs opened up the series with a 9-2 victory in Game 1 in Goliad Thursday
But the Marlins answered with a 3-13 victory in Game 2 to even the series up on Friday in Goliad
In Game 3 Diego Ramirez led the offense with three hits on the day
Beck Zimmerman had a two RBI double and scored two runs
Other Dogs hitting singles were Henri Vincik
In the series clincher Zimmerman had a great day on the mound
Kullen Kutac pitched one inning in relief and also did not give up a hit with one K
So both pitchers combined to pitch a playoff no-hitter
In Game 1 Flatonia pounded out seven hits to score nine runs
The big inning was an eight run sixth inning for the Dogs
Titan Targac had three hits in the opener with a RBI and two runs scored
Zimmerman and Bowling had the other two hits
Targac picked up the win on the bump in Game 1
He pitched 5.2 innings and gave up three hits
Kutac also pitched 1.1 innings in relief with two K’s in game 1
Flatonia took it on the chin in Game 2 losing 3-13
The Dogs could only muster up three hits off the bats of Yandel Manzano
Doing the pitching chores in the middle game were Blake Kessler
Flatonia will now advance to the Area round
where they will do battle with the Freer Buckaroos in a best two-outthree series
All three games are set to be played at Sinton HS this weekend

2025The annual iHeartCountry Festival we all know and love took place over the weekend
and it is safe to say that we saw the good
the bad and the ugly when it comes to our favorite country stars
This year's festival included performances from Brooks & Dunn, Thomas Rhett, Rascal Flatts, Sam Hunt, Nate Smith and more
and it was hosted by iHeartRadio's beloved Bobby Bones
Another country superstar who was in attendance was Bailey Zimmerman
who was caught flirting (and failing) with heartthrobs Megan Moroney and Dasha backstage — yikes
In an oh-so awkward video shared to TikTok by iHeartCountry
Zimmerman is seen hugging both Moroney and Dasha backstage at the Moody Center in Austin
seemingly taking place just moments before the festival began
That song’s so f-----g good.”
Zimmerman twiddled his thumbs and awkwardly replied
“I love all of your stuff,” prior to telling Moroney that he’s excited for her soon-to-be hit song with Kenny Chesney
“You Had to Be There,” hitting music streaming services on Friday (May 9)
Moving around restlessly, country music lovers took to the comment section to poke fun at Zimmerman's mannerisms, accusing the "Fall In Love" singer of having a crush on either Moroney or Dasha (or both)
"Oh he loves Megan," one fan wrote
"You can tell he’s nervous around Megan." A third fan joked
Talking to girls is hard," prompting Zimmerman to address the comments with a statement of his own
"I GET NERVOUS AROUND PRETTY GIRLS," the 25-year-old eventually wrote in the comment section of the TikTok video
garnering a whopping 5,053 likes and 47 replies

news‘Backup Plan’ by Bailey Zimmerman & Luke Combs - Lyrics & MeaningBy Maxim Mower
with the duo filming the music video during that performance
The visuals dropped on May 2nd alongside the song
‘Backup Plan‘ follows in a similar vein to the defiant
middle-finger-in-the-air battle-cry of ‘New to Country’
with Bailey Zimmerman offering encouragement to listeners across a rowdy
with Zimmerman's charismatic vibrato and Luke Combs’ signature rasp complementing one another and accentuating the passion that permeates this earworm
“So your back’s backed up against the wall
As far as I can see there ain’t no way to be
Bailey Zimmerman begins by stepping into the shoes of someone's who's feeling down-and-out
with the Illinois native addressing the listener directly as he advises them to push through the pain
The overarching message of ‘Backup Plan’ is to never give up on your dreams
if you really want it and work hard enough
you can make it happen - in the same way that he has
If you got something to prove go on ‘n prove it
Tune out the doubters and all the closed-minders
Bailey Zimmerman and Luke Combs share their words of wisdom as they emphasise how the key to achieving your ambitions is
They stress the need to remain focussed and not let others drag you down
before delivering the satisfying punchline
which revolves around the witty transition from “gettin’ back up” to “backup plan”
But if you’re doing what you love and it kills you
the ‘Beer Never Broke My Heart’ crooner zeroes in on the various ways in which detractors might try to slow down your trajectory to greatness
although other people might try to place obstacles in your path
Combs implies that even if it “kills you” and makes you feel exhausted at times
than to try and live with the ‘what if’ that comes with giving up
There's another clever play on words here
as Combs follows the lyric “it kills you” with “you can live with that”
The duo are yet to explain how ‘Backup Plan’ came about
but when teasing the initial clip of the track in January
“BDAY SURPRISE FOR YALL...I don’t know when I’m putting this out but ITS A BANGER...Let me know what yall think”
Bailey Zimmerman tapped Luke Combs for a song one figures he understands very well
"Backup Plan" is a working man or woman's anthem with lyrics a dreamer can relate to
The younger of the two singers began teasing this song just after Easter, and they teamed up to sing "Backup Plan" at Stagecoach last weekend in California. Friday's video drop marks the large-scale debut, however, and the finished version is every bit as guitar-driven as their Instagram tease
"So if you got a fire don’t lose it / If you got a do or die dream do it / If you got something to prove go on and prove it / Don’t let nobody clip your wings," the men sing at the chorus
The play on words is that the only "backup plan" you should have is to get "back up" after life knocks you down
It's a simple message wrapped in simple production
with lyrics delivered by two guys seem to know that story well
Combs' ascent to country music stardom was pocked with doubters and doors slammed in his face
Zimmerman's early career failures are less known
but anyone who chased country music as a career has been told "no" once

Look for "Backup Plan" to be on a future project from Zimmerman
His last studio album was Religiously (2023)
but he's dropped promotional songs like "Holding On" and "New To Country" since
His last single was "Holy Smokes."
Zimmerman:So your back's backed up against the wall / And the band wagon's fallen right off / And you’re hearing all the talk about / Maybe you should think about / Whatcha gonna do if it don’t work out / It ain’t about if it makes sense / 'Cause if the boot do
it don’t fit / As far as I can see there ain’t no way to be / Somebody if you’re just gonna quit
Chorus:So if you got a fire don’t lose it / If you got a do or die dream do it / If you got something to prove go on and prove it / Don’t let nobody clip your wings / Keep your head down
keep on the blinders / Tune out the doubters and all the closed-minders / If it’s in your blood
falling down ain’t enough / To change who you were born to be / And gettin' back up
that’s the only backup plan you need
Combs:Well life’s got a lotta sticks and stones / And a blade that’ll cut you to the bone / But if you’re doing what you love and it kills you / Well
It's a simple message wrapped in simple production with lyrics delivered by two guys seem to know that story well.\nRead More

Defender's status unclear for Saturday's home game
Nashville SC captain Walker Zimmerman is in concussion protocol following the kick to the head he suffered in last Saturday’s 2-1 loss to Charlotte FC
Callaghan said Thursday the team will further evaluate Zimmerman
on Friday to see if he will be able to play in Saturday’s game against Real Salt Lake at Geodis Park
“He’s basically currently progressing himself through concussion protocol,” Callaghan said
“It’s a day-by-day sequence that we’re following
We’ll make that evaluation when we have to on Friday when we announce the [roster for Saturday]
but that’s because we’re trying to do it through the protocol — do it step by step and as safely as possible.”
Zimmerman, in his sixth season with Nashville, suffered the injury in the 72nd minute of the contest in Charlotte
Charlotte forward Kerwin Vargas attempted a bicycle kick on a crossed ball in Nashville’s penalty box
and Zimmerman stepped forward to head the ball at that same moment
taking the brunt of Vargas’ attempted shot to his head
with teammates immediately signaling for medical personnel
Zimmerman was carted out of the stadium wearing a neck brace
He received treatment at a nearby hospital
and was able to travel home with Nashville SC
Jelsson Palacios was inserted into the contest for Zimmerman following the injury
but Nashville surrendered two late goals and a 1-0 lead following the injury
Callaghan said he expects no letdown from the team if Zimmerman is unable to play Saturday
getting the connections and cohesiveness to be the same
and I don’t even mean the next man up who has to step up and play the position,” Callaghan said
Walker brings great leadership to the group
So people are going to have to bear that and take on that responsibility
We just have to take it and share it amongst the 20 that gets named for the match and continue to push forward.”
The 31-year-old Zimmerman has been a bedrock of the team ever since arriving via trade from Los Angeles prior to the 2020 season
He has played 123 regular-season games for NSC during that stretch
Zimmerman has also played 43 games for the U.S
Callaghan acknowledged that the shock of Zimmerman’s injury likely impacted the team down the stretch against Charlotte
and we just have to be able to process that and try to move forward.”

When Zimmerman heard "Backup Plan," he knew immediately he wanted Combs to be on it with him
Combs invited Zimmerman to play the benefit concert for the Carolinas
Zimmerman thinks they become fast buddies the day of that show and he wasn't wrong because Combs gave him his phone number
but after listening to it multiple times he decided to finally send a text
He told Combs he would crush this song with him
but Combs didn't respond to the text for a month
Zimmerman had an insider who told him Combs was continuing to listen to it to make a decision
He has done a few collaborations with people he didn't know and it wasn't very fun
so he decided if he was going to do any collaborations it had to be a good connection
Zimmerman grew up on cars and has always been a General Motors guy because his grandpa was
and any other brand feels betraying to him
he always identified corvettes with people who were rich
so he always said if he made money he would get a corvette and he kept that promise to himself
He plans to keep all of the cars he's bought with the money from this career
he wants to pass them down to his kids one day
but now Zimmerman will just send his cars to shops to get work done on them
His love for cars showed out at the Houston Rodeo
That show was the most nervous Zimmerman has ever been because this past year has had a lot of "fall on my face" moments and he wanted to really prove himself with this particular show and show that he deserved to be there
Zimmerman is still learning how to be an adult
Thankfully he has a guy named Shaunzy on his team who has helped Zimmerman adjust to this entire new life
He admitted that at one point in his success
he almost went over to the darker side of stardom
he had an epiphany and realized how he needed to be grateful and positive about this opportunity that he's been given
his grandpa hired him to work at the family dealership
which eventually turned into a butcher and he was working as the clean up boy
He spent 2.5 years at that job before getting a job to build a pipeline in West Virginia after graduation
Zimmerman was part of the union so sometimes he would work on railroads or road jobs
he was also the guy who would be in the back of a truck dropping cones when people were doing construction stuff
he has bad ADHD so the dropping of the cones was a fun job for him
His last job was working on rebuilding a railroad bridge and it was that job that made him realize he hated what he was doing
That's when he began learning to sing and was building trucks on the side and now here he is today
