CAPTAIN Jordan Dawson has booted three goals to inspire Adelaide to a 60-point thrashing of a lacklustre Carlton
Dawson was instrumental in the Crows' 16.14 (110) to 7.8 (50) victory at Adelaide Oval on Saturday with 22 disposals

Adelaide (5-3) climbed to fourth on the ladder as the Blues' bubble burst – after three consecutive wins, they nurse a 3-5 win-loss record in 13th spot.
Dawson set Adelaide's tone with a dominant 11-disposal opening quarter while Josh Worrell produced an outstanding defensive display.

Worrell collected 23 disposals and took seven marks while Adelaide's attackers flourished with Darcy Fogarty, Ben Keays, Josh Rachele, Izak Rankine and Alex Neal-Bullen slotting two goals each.
Carlton, never in the hunt after conceding five goals to two in the opening term, were well-served by skipper Patrick Cripps (24 touches) and George Hewett (25) in the midfield.
But with Adelaide's Worrell ruling in defence, the Blues' attack was smothered – the visitors couldn't manage consecutive goals until the dying stages of the game, though Cripps, Charlie Curnow and Corey Durdin booted two apiece overall.
The Crows began briskly, booting 5.2 to 2.4 in an opening term propelled by Dawson's ball-gathering.
Adelaide forward Neal-Bullen converted two set shots and the home side cashed in on having 32 more disposals than the Blues for the quarter.
Carlton reduced its deficit to 13 points one minute into the second term with a trademark Curnow strike from long range.
But the Crows then resumed control by kicking the next three goals – the last in the burst, Dawson from a tight angle on the siren, gave the hosts a 33-point half-time lead.
Adelaide sliced the Blues in space, with Carlton minus 59 in uncontested possessions at the break – their worst first half differential in the statistic since 2019.
And while Carlton's Durdin booted two majors in the third term, the Crows added five more – three in an eye-catching three minutes late in the quarter capped by classy finishes from Rachele and Rankine.
Adelaide held a commanding 52-point break at three-quarter time, 13.10 to 5.6, before closing out victory and kicking 100 or more points for the fifth time in eight games.
Captain's stunnerJordan Dawson had already enjoyed a dominant first half at the Adelaide Oval when he delivered a massive moment on half-time. Pushed forward, he took a great mark on the stretch in the pocket before slotting a brilliant goal from the boundary as the siren sounded, extending the Crows' lead to 33 points. Dawson had 14 disposals, two goals, five tackles, three clearances and six score involvements in the first half.

In the spirit of reconciliation the AFL acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of country throughout Australia and their connections to land, sea and community. We pay our respect to their Elders past and present and extend that respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples today.
Becoming the global champion of cosplay is still sinking in for Clare Beaton, otherwise known as Henchwench.
The self-described nerd took out the title at one of the biggest pop culture conventions in the United States, the Chicago Comic and Entertainment Expo, in April, dressed as hunky 300-year-old elf Halsin from the video game Baldur’s Gate 3.
“It’s kind of the world’s best cosplay crafters all in one space,” explained Beaton, from the Adelaide-based costume and prop-making studio Hench & Scrap.
“Then we won… I think I was just honestly stunned.”
Cosplay involves dressing up as characters from films, books and video games – often in costumes that feature obsessive levels of detail.
It’s a relatively small movement in Australia when compared to the US and Japan, but local cosplayers have been making an impact internationally.
Beaton’s winning Halsin outfit included silicon prosthetic elf ears and facial scars, a glowing lantern with flexible resin spikes and shoulder pieces constructed from more than 100 individually embossed leather leaves.
She said she felt a connection to the seven-foot-tall polyamorous game character, who has the power to transform into a bear, due to Halsin’s kindness and affinity with nature.
She completed the project in her spare time over about two years, using skills that ranged from metalwork to resin moulding, 3D printing, leatherwork and sewing.
Video game costume design is an unusual niche but also a growing industry, Beaton says. This picture: Matt Turner/AAP
In October, the Halsin costume helped her take out the Australian Cosplay Central Crown Championships title for a second time at the nation’s biggest gaming convention, PAX Aus.
That win came with a ticket to represent the nation at the US event.
Subscribe for updatesBeaton is well aware that from the outside, cosplayers can seem obsessive and eccentric.
But for her, it’s the antidote to a more widespread pop-culture fandom that is based in consumerism.
“You can be creative and contribute back to fandom, and express something you love through doing something constructive,” she said.
Her cosplay artistry has taken years to develop after getting her start at 14, working alongside her father at the renowned special effects and animation studio Weta FX.
Her first job was working on Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings trilogy, but she soon found the film industry too specialised for her unique combination of skills.
In 2016, she met her business and life partner Oarin Tremont – otherwise known as Scrap – at a gaming convention, where they bonded over their cosplay outfits from the same video game, Overwatch.
Having realised they could make a living creating costumes and props, the couple moved from Sydney to Adelaide so they could afford a large fabrication workshop with space for their equipment.
Most of the clients at Hench & Scrap are video game companies.
“It’s an unusual niche but it’s definitely a growing industry,” Beaton said.
Subscribe for updates“We’ll build a project and show off on social media how we make things, as part of the marketing.”
Beaton will join the cosplay judging panel at the upcoming PAX Aus convention to be held in Melbourne in October.

LIV Golf on Sunday extended its agreement with Adelaide until 2031
with new chief executive Scott O'Neil calling the Australian tournament "the embodiment" of everything the Saudi-backed league represents
Adelaide's Grange Golf Course is currently hosting its third edition of LIV
with more than 100 000 fans expected through the gates over the three days
"This event is the embodiment of what LIV Golf represents: the biggest stars
"LIV Golf Adelaide is our showcase and brings the vision for all our events across the globe to life."
Adelaide has been named World's Best Golf Event at the World Golf Awards for the past two years
As part of a new agreement with the South Australia state government
the downtown North Adelaide Golf Course will be redeveloped so it can host LIV tournaments
The design will be led by Australia's Greg Norman
who was instrumental in establishing LIV Golf but was replaced by O'Neil last month
"I've dreamed of building a global golf league for 30 years," said Norman
a polarising figure in the rift between the established PGA Tour and LIV Golf
which is owned by the Saudi Public Investment Fund
"LIV Golf Adelaide is the realisation of what LIV Golf can be around the world
"I'm honoured to design a world-class course that will benefit current and future generations here in Australia," he added
The LIV Tour's 14-stop 2025 campaign teed off last week in Riyadh and moves to Hong Kong after Adelaide
ADELAIDE captain Jordan Dawson is braced for a strong response from Port Adelaide in the next instalment of one of the League's greatest rivalries
The Power were dealt a 90-point humiliation by the Western Bulldogs in round eight
ending their three-match winning streak in brutal fashion
It followed a 91-point thrashing from Collingwood in round one - the two heaviest defeats of coach Ken Hinkley's 13-year tenure
But Port has made a habit of bouncing back from heavy losses in recent times and will be geared up for a huge Showdown in front of home fans at Adelaide Oval on Saturday night
the Power have responded to all four of their defeats by more than 40 points with a win the following week
"We were in a similar position this time last week after the Freo game," Dawson said of Adelaide's 18-point loss in Perth, which the Crows followed with a 60-point burial of Carlton on Saturday
"We respect them highly and we look forward to the battle this weekend."
Showdown 57 is the first meeting between the sides since last August's fiery encounter, which reached a flashpoint when then-Power star Dan Houston laid out Adelaide's Izak Rankine with a brutal high bump.
Houston, now with Collingwood, incurred a five-game suspension, ruling him out of Port's 2024 finals campaign and the opening round of this season with his new club.
Before the game, Adelaide's Josh Rachele and Darcy Fogarty stoked the fire with public comments about Port and their supporters.
Rachele notably took a swipe at Power fans by saying they have "no teeth" in a radio interview.
Josh Rachele kicks this superb running goal and lets the crowd know about it
On Monday, Dawson and Port captain Connor Rozee played the straightest of bats when they fronted South Australian media.
Asked how they feel about their arch-rivals, both skippers said they "respect" the opposing side.
"They always have a bit of fire," Dawson said of the Showdown.
"We might leave the build-up for (the media) but for us it's just about playing footy.
"No matter where the teams are on the ladder, it's always a good contest and we all love playing in them as well."
Rozee conceded not much went right for Port against the Bulldogs in Ballarat, where they conceded 18 goals to three after quarter-time.
But he wasn't dwelling on the result, insisting it's a long season.
"We've shown in the past that when we have a bad loss we're able to respond," Rozee said.
"That's because we stay tight as a group and listen to what Kenny says and what we need to do the following week.
"That will be the same approach this week."
Port's 22-point win over the Crows last August snapped a three-match losing streak against their arch-rivals and squared the all-time ledger at 28 wins apiece.

including underpaying one worker by nearly $60,000
The Federal Court has ordered the husband-and-wife operators of Mr Viet pay more than $802,000 in combined court penalties and compensation after the Federal Court found they underpaid migrant workers
Mr Viet’s Quoc Mai and Huong Le were fined for their contraventions of the Fair Work act
which included forcing staff to buy them bubble tea
Mr Viet operates a restaurant off Rundle Mall on James Place and a food court outlet in Chinatown
The Federal Court ordered Mai back-pay $407,546 plus interest and superannuation to the 36 workers he had underpaid
while his wife and manager of the Mr Viet eateries was penalised $130,000
Fair Work said the penalties were imposed for a range of contraventions including: giving false records to Fair Work inspectors; underpaying or not paying minimum rates
weekend and public holiday loading and overtime rates; failing to compensate employees for taking no meal breaks; and employees being unreasonably required to spend their own money
the workers were mostly Vietnamese international students aged under 25 who were paid as little as $15 per hour for a period between January 2018 and September 2021
Five of the workers were junior employees aged between 18 and 20
engaged as kitchen attendants and bar waitstaff – were underpaid by amounts ranging from $75 to as much as $58,592
Mai has a “strike board system” to punish employees for mistakes they made at work
After six strikes against an employee’s name
that employee would be forced to buy food and beverages for Mai
Le and/or other employees working at the time
One worker was forced to buy bubble tea for Le and the other employees working in the restaurant
an employee was made to transfer more than $50 to Le’s personal bank account for the purchase of bubble teas
The Federal Court ruled this conduct was “unreasonable” in the circumstances
It was also found that Mai took money from his employees’ pay packets for claims they incorrectly charged a customer
and for failing to properly close a refrigerator door
The court ruled the deductions were “not authorised”
the Court found the operators gave false record to inspectors when Mai attempted to make the regulator believe he was back-paying his workers
giving one of them $10,000 which he then made the worker withdraw and give back to him
Justice Stephen McDonald said this was a “calculated and dishonest course of conduct”
“Mr Mai’s repeated dishonest attempts to conceal contraventions and to mislead the FWO investigation leave me with a concern that he is a person who is prepared to act dishonestly when he thinks it will be to his benefit,” McDonald said
Fair Work Ombudsman Anna Booth said the contraventions were “disgraceful”
“These substantial penalties highlight that exploiting vulnerable migrant workers is particularly reprehensible conduct that will not be tolerated in Australia,” Booth said
“If you exploit your workers you will be found and called out
“Among the long list of unacceptable conduct
we take a dim view of trying to trick the regulator into believing there is a good faith attempt to rectify non-compliance
only to force an employee who thought he was getting $10,000 to give it all back.”
Booth said Fair Work treated cases involving underpayments “particularly seriously”
“We are conscious that they can be vulnerable due to lack of awareness of their rights or a reluctance to complain,” Booth said
“We urge any workers with concerns to contact us
“Visa holders should be reassured that if they speak out about alleged workplace breaches there are protections for their visa.”
Employers and employees can visit www.fairwork.gov.au or call the Fair Work Infoline on 13 13 94 for free advice and assistance
An interpreter service is available on 13 14 50
The FWO also has an online anonymous report tool
including options in languages other than English
and information for migrant workers is available at our visa holders and migrants webpage

2025A render of the proposed redevelopment of Adelaide Central Plaza
Render: Precision GroupAn office tower will rise on the North Terrace-facing side of Adelaide Central Plaza as part of $260 million plans proposed by the building’s owner
The northern third of the Adelaide Central Plaza site in the Adelaide CBD will be demolished and replaced by a 31-storey
$260 million mixed-use commercial office building under a proposal by the building’s owner Precision Group
As revealed yesterday by InDaily
Precision Group applied earlier this week to partially demolish Adelaide Central Plaza – anchored by department store David Jones – and build a multi-level mixed-use building
Precision Group then unveiled its plans for the 132-metre-tall mixed-use commercial office building on the northern third of the Adelaide Central Plaza site
The development site is located on the south side of North Terrace
and the proposal includes 31 storeys above ground (plus two below ground)
The built form comprises a six-storey tall building base
a two-storey tall “recessive transition element” and a 23-storey upper tower form
A lower ground/upper basement floor will see Adelaide Central Plaza expand on the existing food court
while the ground floor will include a commercial lobby
café/retail tenancy and entry to the retail portion of the centre
A new food and beverage precinct will take shape on level 2
while level 3 will be a new retail area and level 4 will have end of trip and wellness facilities
Precision Group will build new office spaces designed to satisfy sustainability requirements to qualify within the “premium commercial office category”
A render of the proposed redevelopment of Adelaide Central Plaza
Subscribe for updatesPrecision Group said sustainability measures formed a “critical part of design considerations and will impact the architectural position,” given the high demand for premium commercial spaces in Adelaide
“We have the potential to make a significant contribution to Adelaide’s remarkable transformation
in positioning itself as a rising star in Australia’s economic landscape,” Precision Group CEO and managing director Shaun Bonett said
“We are focused on how we can create substantial long-term growth for the group by adding density to our large and uniquely located strategic holding.”
Precision Group’s proposal is set to be reviewed by the State Planning Commission
The proposal follows the Adelaide City Council’s $5.92 million redevelopment of Adelaide Central Plaza-adjacent Charles Street
which only recently reopened to pedestrians in March
Precision Group’s proposed development will likely see further disruption on Charles Street

The South Australian government has revealed its latest release of development-ready land
and is looking for developers to take on these sites
The land the South Australian government has just released to the market for the purpose of residential projects is expected to deliver new housing worth at least $720 million
It has also released properties zoned for industrial use that it expects to be worth at least $20 million on completion
An aerial view of suburban homes in Adelaide
This is part of the state’s Developer Ready program
which aims to attract private sector development to land sites that the state has released to the market
several new plots of land in Adelaide’s northern suburbs have been earmarked for housing
The South Australian government also noted that other residential land releases would be soon to follow
those opportunities are set to include a large 1000-home residential development opportunity south of Adelaide on 68 hectares in Onkaparinga Heights
This latest release of new land for housing follows on from last year’s opportunities
The government expects the land released in 2024 will produce housing and industrial projects ultimately worth $2 billion
South Australia’s minister for housing and urban development
said the state was inviting proposals from “local
national and international developers and investors” for the newest plots of land
“South Australia is open for business with a pipeline of development-ready opportunities,” Mr Champion said
He noted the release also included two new industrial opportunities: a 10.35-hectare industrial allotment on Newhaven Road in East Grand Trunkway and a 2.91-hectare industrial allotment on Gidgie Court in Edinburgh
The newest land releases are part of South Australia's Developer Ready program
the Property Council’s SA executive director described the parcels of land that had been released as “desperately needed” and noted that if done well
the resulting developments would deliver a substantial economic benefit
“South Australia has a bright future ahead but for the state to fulfill its potential the government and industry must work together like never before
Developing these parcels of land to their best and highest use will deliver jobs
economic growth and attract much needed capital to the state,” Mr Djite said

Experience the art of matcha with a unique tasting flight that lets you explore a variety of flavours, textures, and quality blends in one exciting, interactive experience.
At Loaded Corner Cafe, the matcha tasting flight is more than just a drink thing, it’s a colourful journey for your taste buds!
According to Emma, one of the cafe’s owners, the inspiration behind this unique offering came from a simple observation, “We noticed that our customers were having trouble choosing between our range of matcha flavours.”“So we wanted to provide a unique and fun experience where friends and families could enjoy a range of matcha in an approachable format. Plus, it looks really sexy!”
And it certainly does. The flight, a beautiful arrangement of colourful drinks, is as visually stunning as it is delicious.
View this post on Instagram A post shared by Loaded Corner Cafe (@loadedcornercafe)
Emma and her team have gone to great lengths to ensure that every aspect of the tasting is thoughtfully designed
“All of our flavourings are made in-house with natural ingredients
and we provide our customers with the choice of which options they’d like to try,” she shares
“We can even adjust individual elements like sweetness and matcha grades to accommodate everyone’s tastes.”
and that’s why Loaded Corner Cafe sources its matcha from the famous tea-growing region of Uji
we settled on one who sources 100% of their product from authentic Japanese farms,” Emma explains
“We look for matcha that has a bright
vibrant green colour with an extremely fine texture and a well-balanced flavour of sweetness and umami.”
Emma is particularly firm on avoiding lower-quality matcha that has a dull colour or an overly astringent taste
“God forbid using a pre-sweetened matcha mixture,” she adds with a chuckle
“Any seasoned matcha drinker can pick that out instantly.”
The development of the tasting flight was no small feat
and refining the matcha combinations before launching
“We started with some market research to discover what was popular
followed by matching matcha with different flavour profiles,” she says
and launched the idea with a few loyal customers
we tweaked things until we got it just right.”
One of the things that sets this tasting flight apart is the variety and customisation it offers
“Although we’re always happy to let customers choose their own
we can recommend a well-balanced combination of flavours,” Emma says
and Dubai chocolate matcha would offer a combination of flavour variety and an educational experience regarding different quality matcha.”
Customer reactions to the matcha tasting flight have been overwhelmingly positive
but it’s rare to try four different drinks over lunch or brunch,” Emma says
“It’s something people are still getting used to
and we’re grateful to introduce them to it.”
with any trendy new offering comes the need to educate
“People don’t realise there’s caffeine in matcha or that it’s actually better for you than coffee,” Emma points out
“So it’s a great change from your daily grind.”
Emma sees the matcha tasting flight as part of a larger trend
“With the cost of living like it is at the moment
people can’t always afford to sample as much as they would like to,” she says
“A flight is a great and affordable way to have a varied and exciting experience without breaking the bank.”
The matcha tasting flight at Loaded Corner Cafe isn’t just a drink—it’s a playful
affordable way to explore a range of flavours and textures
all while learning about matcha in a fun and approachable way

South Australia is throwing open the doors to more than $740 million in fresh development opportunities
with the South Australian government inviting the private sector to help shape the state’s future
The latest release of land under the government’s Developer Ready program is set to boost housing supply
Minister for Housing and Urban Development
said the state is ready and eager to work with developers to bring these projects to life
“South Australia is open for business with a pipeline of development ready opportunities,” he said
“We want to work with the private sector on important projects and invite proposals from local
national and international developers and investors.”
From residential estates to industrial sites
the newly released land spans Adelaide’s north and south
an 8.5-hectare site on John Rice Avenue is up for grabs for residential development
while three allotments in Munno Para’s Playford Alive precinct have been earmarked for medium-density housing and commercial use
Industrial developers are also being invited to bid
with a 10.35-hectare site on Newhaven Road at East Grand Trunkway
and a 2.91-hectare allotment on Gidgie Court in Edinburgh now on the table
“There’s a wide variety of projects available that will stimulate the local economy and deliver important housing and employment opportunities,” Nick said
But the biggest opportunity is still to come
the government plans to release a 68-hectare site at Onkaparinga Heights
along with a 1-hectare industrial allotment at Gillman
This latest wave of land releases follows more than $2 billion in development projects offered up last year
Property Council SA Executive Director Bruce Djite welcomed the government’s move
saying it’s a positive step toward building stronger communities

Two-time Grand Slam finalist Jasmine Paolini and teenage talent Mirra Andreeva on Sunday pulled out of this week's Adelaide International
citing a need to rest before the Australian Open
With the first major of the season beginning on 12 January
Italian world No 4 Paolini withdrew after helping her country reach the quarterfinals of the mixed-team United Cup in Sydney
"I need a bit more time to rest and recover after an intense week in Sydney," said last season's Roland Garros and Wimbledon runner-up

the second CCI5*-L competition of the year
Hazel Shannon (AUS) and Willingapark Clifford joined Jung in breaking records with a historic fourth win by the same horse and rider combination
It’s a feat that puts them on par with the likes of Oliver Townend (GBR) and Ballaghmore Class and Michael Jung (GER) and La Biosthetique Sam and further cements their position in Australian eventing history
But it didn’t start out as a likely outcome
Equiratings Prediction Centre has Shannon and Clifford on a 2% win chance coming into competition and a 10% podium chance
no doubt there were questions about Clifford at a five star
The chestnut Thoroughbred started the week as he meant to go
A score of 30.2 was good enough to put them in second after an electric atmosphere in dressage proved to be the undoing of a couple of other competitors

adding 11.6 time penalties to drop into third
I am really watchful about how much work I do and what surfaces I ride on
less than 1 in 10 riders will make the time
the 2025 edition designed by Mike Etherington-Smith (GBR) was par for the course
But two riders out of 20 starters achieved double clear rounds: three-time Olympic team member Shane Rose (AUS) and The Bandit and young gun Sophia Hill (AUS) and Humble Glory coming back from overseas and a top 25 finish at Burghley
“He doesn’t love dressage,” Rose said of Bandit after cross country
I thought if I could get a good dressage test out
he’d be pretty competitive down here.”
Rose and Bandit moved up the leaderboard from ninth to first
while Hill and “Hughie” rocketed from 17th on 41.2 to hold second place overnight
“He’s always been a phenomenal jumping horse
He’s pretty much always jumped double clear,” Hill said of her partner
“But I think just us getting to know each other as a partnership
and me becoming more experienced as a rider [has helped] because he was my first proper four-star horse
He absolutely ate up the cross country out there today.”
After one more restless night’s sleep for the competitors
the final phase proved to be every inch the challenge that was cross country
Rails dropped all over David Sheppard’s course
With an average of 9.03 penalties per round
Two rails down still claimed a celebration of success
Shannon went into the ring in the final podium position
One rail down at a natural oxer on the rail right up against the crowd put them on a total score over the three days of 45.9
Hill went into the ring in second position
With fastest man in eventing and Paris Olympics individual silver medalist Christ Burton (AUS) coaching from the sidelines
she and Hughie were making easy work of the course
She was eliminated to the groans of the captive audience
Final to go and with 9.6 penalties in hand
Rose and The Bandit let the win slip through their reins when they dropped three poles to slot into second
Five-star rookie Samuel Jeffree and Wimborne Conjuror rounded out the podium on 50.4
As Shannon’s support team ran screaming to her
Ten years of competing with Clifford at Adelaide has produced five star wins in 2016
“I don’t really know what more to say,” Shannon said
but even when I don’t do a great job
I’m so glad that he’s made history again.”

Felix Auger-Aliassime needed four match points and nearly three hours to beat Tommy Paul 7-6 (7/3)
6-4 and reach the Adelaide International final on Friday
it was a 16th final for the Canadian and puts him one win from a sixth title
Paul's loss prevented the American from breaking into the top 10 for the first time in his career
The semifinal with Auger-Aliassime was marred by more than 90 unforced errors
with the Canadian failing to close out a straight-sets win when Paul won six of the last seven games in the second set
"I'll try and recover now for the final," Auger-Aliassime said
"The match was about physical and mental effort
"It was not the best level from either of us
The Offspring and Simple Plan light up Adelaide Entertainment Centre with an unforgettable mix of throwback hits
never grow up.” – Peter Pan, J.M
Without even referencing who articulated the sentence quoted above
a great number of people throughout the world would recognise these ten words as the essence of the heroic character living his eternal youth, Peter Pan.The message is one that millions wish for once they hit adulthood
fiscal commitments and any other mature responsibilities have little to no impact on our existence
It is fundamentally a “dream life” we can only imagine
unless a pathway to “Neverland” is one day discovered and citizenship to this paradise becomes a possibility
the first five letters of this region’s name more-or-less confirms that unlikelihood.Unquestionably
what people can do is “recapture” their youth
They can attempt to discover a means to return to that “kid” version of themselves – that almost careless and free way of life
and arguably one of the most wonderful avenues to achieve this is through music.MAY the FOURTH be with you; what a flawlessly befitting date for a grand event of this nature to land on
Montreal’s emo-pop-punk luminaries Simple Plan grasped this opportunity and soared with it in their X-wing starfighters that were fuelled with emotional rock
Their “walk-on” composition was literally the Star Warstheme
with the video backdrop representing a time warp speed visual until it was overtaken with three simple emojis: The broken heart
sad face and storm images.A capacity audience was about to travel back to the noughties
and the aura was to become beyond sentimental and resplendent. The quartet burst onto the stage in hyperdrive with their emo anthem ‘I’d Do Anything’
and the striking single was accentuated by smoke cannons firing at all the right moments
climbing atop of his platform and executing perfectly timed “punk jumps”; he was undeniably defying his nearly-45-year-old status (May 9th is his birth date)
Perhaps he does know the path to Neverland
Pierre does translate from French-to-English as “Peter”
Streamers exploded out of the cannons marking the announcement of ‘Shut Up!’ that provoked a sing-along from the sold-out crowd that was practically deafening
‘Jump’ channelled the introduction to Stevie Nicks’‘Edge Of Seventeen’ so well
it activated a new energy of time travel which encapsulated the motif of this showcase impeccably
This track also allowed the guitarists Jeff Stinco and Sébastien Lefebvre to really shine
exhibiting the tight knit family that Simple Plan are.‘Jet Lag’ came across as a Yellowcard meets 30 Seconds To Mars fusion that both outfits would
be envious of due to its stadium pop-rock nature
The ambience then moved in a slightly different direction for the heart-rendering ballad ‘Addicted’
which conveyed the “lost first love” tale millions know all too well
‘Thank You’ was an eruption of punk rock counteractively
this brilliantly exhibited the four-piece’s tenacity to amplify the vigour of their demonstration
especially in a live setting. “We fucking love you Adelaide!” Mr Bouvier bellowed in an attempted Aussie accent; he also then declared their next track to be ‘Welcome To My Life’ in that same tone
was enthralling. The beach balls suitably came out for the country-folk-pop-rock single ‘Summer Paradise’ that emitted a slight Hilary Duff dynamic
a song from one of her early films’ soundtracks
the track exceeds the “infectious” status. SP then approached a darker expression with ‘Take My Hand’, which included swirls of new wave soundscapes and flourishes of electronica that this writer hopes the Montrealers explore more creatively in the future. ‘Can’t Keep My Hands Off You’ without a doubt belongs in every Disney teenage love movie. ‘What’s New Scooby-Doo’ was simply put, musical merriness
The addition of stage-invaders wearing the beloved animated dog character’s furry outfit and shooting t-shirts into the crowd enhanced the enjoyment immeasurably. ‘Where I Belong’ was the song New Found Glory wish they wrote and then ‘I’m Just A Kid’wound back that all important clock aligned with the Peter Pan motivation
“We are elder emos” and “it’s not just a phase” were iconically stated by Pierre and the outburst of cheers acknowledged this disposition faultlessly.Arguably
one would be very hard pressed to find an action of recapturing one’s youth like a crowd surf
and drummer Charles-André “Chuck” Comeau decided to undertake this enjoyment excitedly
which virtually all of the AEC revelled in
Predictably ‘Perfect’ was to be the Canucks’ closer
initiated in an acoustic format under the lights of smartphones – it was an endearing and poetic conclusion
the entirety of Simple Plan joined the front-man on stage at that exact right moment; Pierre impressively tossed his instrument dozens of feet to a sound technician in an Olympic effort
to ensure that the whole band went out with an explosive finish
The force was indisputably with these Canadians. The stage crew were quick to act once Simple Plan had concluded
the stage was practically emptied and the transformation into whatever unhinged setup with crazy theatrical props the quintessential Californian punk trailblazers The Offspring had dreamed up
the quirky track ‘Intermission’ from the band’s fourth studio album was played
a dancing skeleton appeared on the screen and then a blimp shaped drone camera projected above the sold-out crowd.Believe it or not
it was about to become more weirdly wonderful. In sporting events in the Northern Americas
there are numerous entertainment features during breaks that incorporate crowd participation
Such as: The Kiss Cam; the reason for the blimp drone became abundantly clear
While ZZ Top’s ‘Gimme All Your Lovin’’ played
a “best of” footage reel was played on the screen
which then turned to the Adelaide spectators. It was amazingly awkward.A “Headbang Cam” then followed to Van Halen’s ‘Panama’ which enlivened the crowd to get more involved; a “Booty Cam” to Sir Mix-A-Lot’s ‘Baby Got Back’ instigated tremendous twerking and other dance interpretations – it is a peculiar picture to try and imagine
they embrace immaturity.Plane footage then followed to Jimmy Eat World’s ‘Bleed American’ before a very recognisable Australian hard rock anthem ‘Thunderstruck’ by AC/DC blasted through the AEC speakers
and backstage footage was shown of guitarist/vocalist Dexter Holland
multi-instrumentalist Jonah Nimoy and drummer Brandon Pertzborn
The countdown was approaching the status of “blast off”.Suddenly the lights went completely out
A magnificent “RockOpera” walk-on song was played
and five familiar and very celebrated musicians took their positions in front of thousands of punk aficionados to commence their incredibly absurd assault on Adelaide.Dexter Holland: “OK”
jumping and twirling; truthfully Mr. Holland didn’t even need to sing
South Australia was doing it for The Offspring and it was a spectacle to marvel at
For nearly 30 years ‘All I Want’ has been an anthem of adrenaline
went beyond expectations. ‘Come Out And Play’ bolstered the energy further and the streamer cannons accentuated the track’s infectious ignition. ‘Spare Me The Details’ showcased the boundless and unbridled talent of multi-instrumentalist Mr. Nimoy who switched between keyboards and percussion effortlessly. ‘Want You Bad’ was reinterpreted with a fascinating church organ inclusion that redefined the single illustriously
and the fireworks completed the orchestration majestically. ‘Staring At The Sun’ initiated with the spotlight just on Dexter as he resolutely delivered: “Maybe life is like a ride on a freeway
Dodging bullets while you’re trying to find your way
This came across as a poem of resilience and the tight-knit moshpit jumped in elation while thousands more joined in with the contagious clap-along and “Wo-ohs”
‘Hammerhead’ embraced a darker tone and the inflatable skeletons seemed to prop up from nowhere
the backscreen portraying footage seemingly of Andy Warhol guidance
possibly on an acid trip and thunderous sounds echoed throughout the composition
but the frequent crowd-surfers relished in its vitality. On the opposite end of the spectrum
‘Make It Alright’ embodied an 80’s pop motif at times that led into ‘Original Prankster’ superbly
It was at this moment Dexter Holland actually had to pause for a moment and take it all in
he stood in awe at what Adelaide was expressing in adoration for The Offspring and his smile in response was that of the purest euphoria
‘Bad Habit’ exhibited a magnificently monstrous introduction and escalated the tone of the extravaganza to “Earthquake”
It was so vigorous that Mr Holland even popped a button off his shirt and during a small interlude in the track
Noodles loudly exclaimed: “Sing and Cuss with US!”“You stupid dumbsh*t goddamn mother f*cker!” has never sounded so loud in the Adelaide Entertainment Centre; swearing is a brilliantly Bad Habit…Noodles unveiled his guitar playing finesse sampling Deep Purple’s ‘Smoke On The Water’
and then a reimagination of the classical composition ‘In The Hall Of The Mountain King’ before the quintet launched into a cover of The Ramones’ famous hit ‘Bitzkrieg Bop’
‘Looking Out For #1’ integrated some sci-fi concepts
then ‘Gotta Get Away’ wound back the clock adopting an 80’s Hair Metal incentive culminating with a gargantuan drum solo from Brandon Pertzborn
Another interlude to reset the stage plan let everybody catch their breath for a moment; when the lights returned Dexter was seated at a piano where he discussed the pain of losing someone close to you and when that happens
it feels like a star disappears from the sky
He then exquisitely performed a piano rendition of the hit ‘Gone Away’, that Elton John would have wished to perform as a duet
If this composition can ever be accomplished with a full orchestra
this transformation would broach upon perfection. The beach balls came out again for ‘Why Don’t You Get A Job’ in a complete crossover of atmosphere
switching from “moving” to “manic” remarkably
“It’s turning into a game of Aussie rules out there!” – Noodlesjoked
the AEC had become a festive punk battleground.A very funny chant along to the two words “F*CK YEAH!” strengthened the festivity ambiance and led into ‘Pretty Fly For A White Guy’ superbly. The inflatable air dancers of the infamous character from the film clip enriched the entire exhibition
The audience takeover of the third verse left the five-piece aghast at how special this event was; it was as if time had been completely erased from our existence
which is rather magical.‘The Kids Aren’t Alright’ was epic and thought to be the closer
How could it be though? An encore was more than necessary and was dramatically executed featuring: ‘You’re Gonna Go Far Kid’and ‘Self-Esteem’ to the delight of everybody in the arena.
All the stops were delivered for this prodigious ending – a Gotham city cinematic backdrop
the blimp camera floated atop the audience again
streamers and the exclamation: “Never Forget
F*CK YEAH!”It really did feel like Neverland – “Bangarang”.

Adelaide’s SANFL side has returned to the winners list
defeating Norwood by 21 points at Centenary Oval in Port Lincoln on Sunday afternoon
Playing for the Teakle Cup – the annual SANFL match played in Port Lincoln – the Crows never trailed and were able to capitalise on a fast start to run out 14.5 (89) vs 8.20 (68) victors
Here are the five key takeaways from the match:
Adelaide was fast out of the blocks against Norwood
kicking seven goals to one in the opening term to take a 36 point advantage into the first break
the Crows made sure to get the momentum going their way
Adelaide was efficient when it had opportunities to score
converting seven of its eight scoring shots
a trend that continued as the game wore on
“We knew the conditions were going to be tricky
so we wanted to start well and put some runs on the board and we were able to go forward and knock a few goals in,” SANFL Senior Coach Matthew Wright said
I thought we executed when it went in there and got the scoreboard going our way.”
Forward Luke Pedlar played a big part in Adelaide’s first quarter dominance
Pedlar was damaging when the ball was in the Crows’ forward half
presenting strong to his teammates to take three marks inside 50
“His effort hasn’t waned for a long period of time
he was able to get the reward for all the other good things he has been doing,” Wright said
“For him to start the game so well today was awesome for the kid and he kept it up during the entire match.”
Wingman Chayce Jones played a crucial part in the Crows win
lining up wherever he was needed to best help the team
Jones played across half back and behind the ball
able to limit the effectiveness of the Redlegs forward ball movement
while being clinical with his ball use out of the back half
“I was really impressed with him and his ability to go behind the footy at times
play across half back and really impact in the second and fourth quarter when they had the breeze,” Wright said
“His ability to limit their scoreboard effect was really important for us
it went a long way to us getting the job done today.”
Onballer Harry Schoenberg made the most of his possessions against the Redlegs
Schoenberg led the game in clearances with nine and inside 50s with eight
Wright labelled him as “instrumental” to Adelaide holding the ball in its forward half
“He’s probably been our most consistent at setting the tone for the entire group
his leadership has grown so much,” he said
he is playing a really good brand of football and he was one today that I thought his ability to get out of stoppage and press the game contributed to us playing the match in our front half.”
Forward Chris Burgess continued to prove he is one of the SANFL’s most prolific goalkickers
booting four majors to sit second in the Ken Farmer Medal tally with 14 goals
Burgess showcased his ability to score in different ways
crumbing the ball up off the ground to snap in his first
along with roving off the pack to dribble through his third
“He’s one whose game hasn’t changed from preseason to in-season he was just able to execute today in front of goals,” Wright said
so his ability to play his role and bring others into the game has been super impressive.”
three marks – two contested – and three tackles
Adelaide’s SANFL side will next play Port Adelaide at Adelaide Oval on Saturday afternoon with the first bounce at 3:10pm
The game will be a curtain raiser to the AFL Showdown

Brisbane’s two-year streak of house price growth came to an end
even as its apartment prices rose for a record-setting four years straight

Canberra saw values fall across the board and Melbourne properties were still about $50,000 below their peak price in 2021

The government and opposition are promising new measures to help renters buy homes, which economists have warned will fuel further price rises because new building remains stagnant.

We think we’ve found Adelaide’s first guinea pig cafe
complete with a tiny village and backed by a great initiative
They’re scurrying through Hahndorf’s pint-sized main street
dodging the leather shop and munching on autumn leaves as they go
they might even stop by for a tiny stein of Hofbräu lager
happily sipping under the blue umbrellas of The German Arms
We bet you didn’t guess that we’re talking about a tiny gang of guinea pigs taking over a miniature version of Hahndorf’s village main street
But there’s more to this adorable takeover than just some furry folk on the move
These little critters are about to star in their very own guinea pig cafe
right in the heart of Hahndorf’s actual main street
We think it might just be the first of its kind in SA
The cafe is part of a project put together by NDIS provider AHH Life Skills
for the purpose of teaching barista skills to people with intellectual disabilities
The program will impart its participants with valuable training and lead to a Certificate III in Barista Training
“The program means there will be a cafe and a great outlet for people with intellectual disabilities,” AHH Life Skills Managing Director Adelaide Schiblhut says
The cafe does more than teach valuable barista and hospitality skills
and it started out with us teaching responsible social and digital literacy
If you’ve got an intellectual disability
“But if you’re filming guinea pigs and houses and telling stories in that way
it’s a much safer environment for people with intellectual disabilities to engage with digital media,” Adelaide continues
Once the cafe is up and running they’ll sell coffee
and even sweet treats themed for each of the resident guinea pigs
Two guinea pigs named Cherry and Lemon Fizz both already have their own sweet counterparts
the guinea pig cafe will set up shop at 91A Mount Barker Road
taking over the former premises of Udder Delights
as the former cheese cellar on the bottom floor of the old building offers the perfect cool environment for the guinea pigs
which means only about a dozen can stay in Hamdorf at once
Once the current group has finished their Hamdorf holiday
they’ll return to their usual homes across from Beerenberg Farm in Hahndorf
and a fresh team of guinea pigs will be packing their tiny suitcases
so far Hamdorf consists of tiny versions of the Hahndorf Leathersmith and Bush Gallery
we may see even more local icons before Hamdorf is officially unveiled in June
Behind all the glorious models is local artist Tatty K
who has been leading internal arts and crafts groups for AHH Life Skills
Each model starts with a disused dolls house which is painstakingly transformed into a bright new model fit for the finest of guinea pigs
Animal cafes have risen to cult like status around the world especially in Japan where some people travel just to visit as many as they can in Tokyo
Some countries have even been known to include guinea pig as a treasured delicacy on their menu
This is an initiative bringing a lot of good to the local community
and perhaps this winter it’ll put a smile on your face as you peruse the streets of Hamdorf

The Adelaide Hills are experiencing severe water shortages
A prolonged dry period and not enough water tankers to meet unprecedented demand from people not connected to the mains water supply
Thousands of residents and farmers are hurting as dams, tanks and streams dry up. Water tankers are becoming a common sight, carting in desperately needed water
People are waiting weeks for expensive water deliveries
The South Australian government has set up emergency water collection points to cope with the demand from off-grid families. More water tankers have been secured. But despite recent rain
We found rainfall and flows into Adelaide’s reservoirs are at their lowest levels in 40 years
Reservoir levels have dropped to 44% – the lowest for more than 20 years
the city would be under severe water restrictions
But the crisis shows many off-grid families
farms and businesses need new options to plan for the future
This is not the first time entire communities have run out of water
Cape Town in South Africa nearly ran out of water in 2018. The city of nearly 4 million people was weeks away from “Day Zero”
In Australia, several regional and rural country towns have hit their own Day Zero. Stanthorpe in Queensland officially ran out of water in January 2020
Truckloads of water were carted into town every day to meet residential demand
Scientists have coined a new term, “hydroclimate whiplash”
to describe the rapid swings between intensely wet and dangerously dry weather currently occurring across the globe
This climate volatility amplifies natural hazards such as flash floods
The January wildfires in Los Angeles happened when two wet winters were followed by an extremely dry autumn and winter
What’s happening in the Adelaide Hills – and in other very dry places worldwide – demonstrates the need for careful
The United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 6 is to “ensure availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all”. Water stress already affects more than 2 billion people – more than a quarter of the world’s population
By 2030, the UN predicts 2 billion people will still be living without safely managed drinking water
3 billion without safely managed sanitation
and 1.4 billion without basic hygiene services
CSIRO is collaborating with industry, government and research organisations on research to overcome drought and build resilience for regional Australia
Our researchers are testing how well each of these strategies might work in different regions during extended dry periods
We calculate how much water can be collected and stored during the driest periods on record
a subtropical island in the Pacific Ocean roughly 1,500km southeast of Brisbane
with long runs of dry years in recent decades
Our Norfolk Island Water Resource Assessment explored ways to help the community determine how to adapt and build resilience to drought
Since this project finished in 2020
residential and commercial rainwater tanks have been upgraded and a new seawater desalination plant installed
Other options to diversify water supplies included sharing groundwater bores
Excess water from rainwater or recycled wastewater can sometimes be stored underground in natural reservoirs called aquifers for use during drought. This is called “water banking” or “managed aquifer recharge”
The technique has been developed over the past 20 years and used to safely store water underground across Australia and overseas
Brackish (salty) groundwater is a potential water source that could be unlocked during drought. A National Water Grid funded project is investigating ways to use groundwater that would normally be too salty
along with renewable energy to power inland desalination plants
The project is investigating the prospect of using brackish groundwater across Western Australia for the first time
The Adelaide Hills water crisis is a microcosm of a global issue
It’s a reminder action is needed now to secure our water future
water tankers on standby and bigger water storages are all potentially part of the portfolio of emergency plans
the Adelaide Hills water crisis will happen again if we are unprepared
We have also seen the catastrophic effects of drought in Los Angeles – a tinderbox waiting to burn
and insufficient water on hand to fight the fires
We can and must prepare for natural disasters today
By adopting more sustainable water management policies and practices in the longer term
we can make sure the spectre of Day Zero does not become real for more communities around the world
With thanks to CSIRO Senior Research Scientist and Hydrologist Matt Gibbs and Principal Experimental Scientist in Hydrogeology Andrew Taylor
The final of the men’s domestic red-ball competition will instead be held at Karen Rolton Oval, on the city’s western fringe, starting on 26 March. The AFL has rights to the ground from 15 March each year
Cricket Australia chief executive Todd Greenberg, who took over from Nick Hockley this month, said the sport was barred from access to the ground for the proposed mid-week match between AFL rounds.

“The Sheffield Shield final is a significant event for Australia’s national sport
and we believe Adelaide Oval would have been the most appropriate venue.”

Port Adelaide play Richmond at the ground on Saturday 22 March before the Crows host the Kangaroos eight days later on Sunday 30 March

AFL chief executive Andrew Dillon said on Wednesday his code had a “track record of accommodating and working in with other sports” at multi-purpose stadiums but “one thing we won’t compromise on is the safety of the ground”
is to make sure that the Adelaide Oval is safe for our players for the Adelaide-North Melbourne game – which is on the Sunday after the proposed Sheffield Shield final – as well as the Port-St Kilda game the next week
and then we’ve got Gather Round the week after so that’s the absolute priority for us,” Dillon said

South Australian premier Peter Malinauskas had backed the move by his state’s cricketers to use the ground
and said earlier this week that football officials had sought compensation
But Dillon said on Wednesday there had been no attempt to seek compensation and that the AFL’s focus had instead been on “risk mitigation”
A statement from Adelaide Oval said “our team relished the opportunity to be involved” and “threw everything” at the proposal
thanking all parties “for the part they played in these negotiations”
Despite the unfavourable outcome to negotiations
Greenberg thanked Malinauskas “for his advocacy in this matter and his passionate support of cricket” and said his sport will “continue to work collaboratively at all levels to ensure cricket gains and provides appropriate access to shared venues across the country”

and I was lucky enough to lift the trophy then," said Keys
who is seeded 19th at the year's first Grand Slam

The ASO is taking on their favourite video game music with iconic soundtracks brought to life this winter by the symphony orchestra
The Adelaide Symphony Orchestra is tuning up for a new musical experience
a live concert dedicated to the legendary world of video game music
As you huddle into the Festival Theatre this August
you’ll picture the iconic loading screens of your favourite classic video games as the soundtracks immerse you in their worlds
You’ll be hearing your favourite scores from genre-defining games like Super Mario
You can also expect to hear the best tracks from Tetris
As the soaring echo of the Halo theme rings out
it’s a moment that will lift you right out of your seat
All the blips and chimes of Super Mario’s all-time score will get a fascinating retelling as the orchestra gives its own sophisticated spin
The show was a sell-out with the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra earlier this year
where audiences dressed as their favourite heroes and villains
eager to hear the iconic theme songs of their in-game counterparts
Adelaide audiences can dive into the thrill of experiencing these iconic scores live
ASO Principal Bass Trombone player Amanda Tillett is both a musician and gamer
and said the concert is a unique entry point for new symphony orchestra audiences
“I love the thought that a diehard gamer could be coming to a concert like this seeing an orchestra for the first time but recognising everything they hear,” Tillett said
“It’s a fallacy that video game music is just for gamers
it doesn’t matter what it was originally written for – people will enjoy it
Including gaming alongside traditional classical and film music in orchestral seasons is exciting
It makes space for more people and ultimately more connection,” she continued
He will guide the audience through a soundscape that crosses genres and generations
“Video game music is now more creative than ever
because it can be nearly any sound you imagine,” said Shamaly
“Gaming scores are contemporary classical adventures that powerfully blend tradition with the future
actively responding to the player and bringing entire worlds to life,” he added
and unforgettable themes,” Shamaly continued
“these sounds remain in the heart long after the screen is off.”
Press Play is suitable for a wide audience
from long-time gamers to anyone who enjoys a strong musical story
No gameplay footage or visuals will be shown
but some featured games include mature themes
so parental discretion is advised for younger attendees

Coffee Sessions is redefining how we get our boogie on by trading late nights for cruisey mornings
Coffee Sessions is gearing up for its third event
locked in for 11am on 17 May at Norwood cafe
Picture all the vibes of a daytime dance music festival in a bright
and good vibes flowing from morning to afternoon
A Coffee Session is a daytime dance event that blends laid-back house music with a relaxed
Designed for music lovers who love hanging out with old friends and making heaps of new ones
It’s a mindful alternative to traditional clubbing
At a Coffee Session you can expect a lineup of house DJs
the smell of freshly ground coffee in the air
“It’s interesting because I’ve been doing events in nightclubs of techno and house music for the past four years.”
“There was alcohol involved every time
and I got to a point where I felt the need to change that,” Juan said
To say the idea has been a hit is a complete understatement
the most recent session being the perfect example
“We were expecting people to arrive around midday,” Juan said
“But at least ten people were already waiting outside
That was really different to the first time
and it feels like we’ve already grown a lot.”
One of the key players in the event’s success is the choice of space
and the one they’re using is versatile
That’s what makes Planter & Loft in Norwood the perfect choice
you can chill out and watch the action below
but still have a conversation,” Juan says
where you can order food and drink (and dance).”
So those three spaces are pretty great for making people feel like they can use the location in different ways,” Juan adds
but it’s also about building something bigger
“Eventually we want to build a festival
and gives everyone a win,” says Juan
The music plays a central role in that vision
but if they bring the same energy as the last event
this is definitely one you won’t want to miss
but also want people to discover new sounds
That’s what we’re all about,” Juan continues
That spirit of discovery extends to the crowd
“We’re open to everyone,” he says
Wellbeing-oriented events have been all the rage come the last couple of years, see yoga dance parties on the beach, and even an epic sunrise disco on the Glenelg foreshore
and feeling fresh the next morning become the new normal for party lovers
