The theme park, which is set to be one of the largest and most advanced in Europe, will bring nearly 20,000 jobs during the construction period, with a further 8,000 new jobs across the hospitality and creative industries when it opens in 2031.  Supporting the government’s Plan for Change to create economic growth and opportunities by getting people into well-paid, decent jobs across the creative, technology, tourism and hospitality sectors, Universal has committed to working with local colleges and universities to train the next generation of its hospitality workforce, including through a range of apprenticeships and internships.   As well as generating significant opportunities, the new theme park and resort will bring significant local benefits – with approximately 80% of employees at the theme park expected to come from local areas – and support a stream of ongoing work to unleash the potential of the Oxford-Cambridge corridor through growth, infrastructure revitalisation and further job opportunities. Universal expects the site to generate nearly £50 billion for the economy by 2055, with 8.5 million visitors expected in its first year – becoming the largest visitor attraction in the UK. This will support the government to deliver its growth mission – creating higher living standards and putting more money in people’s pockets. High School who were attacked by a 15-year-old boy on the morning of March 20 Rodgers filed a notice of action April 28 against the Halifax Regional Centre for Education the school’s full-time protected under the Youth Criminal Justice Act He pleaded guilty in Halifax youth court in March 2024 to two charges of aggravated assault and was handed a sentence of two years of probation in September According to the agreed statement of facts tendered in youth court the security officer took the boy to the main office at C.P after he was identified on video as the person who had put up anti-furry posters at the school before March break The student was escorted into Rodgers’ office where a search of his book bag by the security officer turned up a sketchbook that was believed to have been used to make the posters The security officer left the office with the knife and called a Halifax Regional Police non-emergency line to ask that officers attend the school Rodgers and the boy were seated on opposite sides of the vice-principal’s desk as they discussed disciplinary consequences The teen rummaged through his bag and then said something to the effect of walked around the desk and attacked Rodgers who was fending him off with his feet while reaching for the door handle Administrative assistant Angela Light heard Rodgers screaming for help and hurried down the hallway to investigate stabbing Light once in the back as he pushed her out of the way Rodgers and Light received first aid from students and staff before paramedics arrived and took them to hospital Rodgers needed surgery to repair his diaphragm In a victim impact statement presented at the boy’s sentencing Rodgers said the incident was the most horrifying and terrifying event he has experienced “The only reason I am able to read my statement today is that I got lucky and survived,” Rodgers told the court “I ask that you take into full consideration the harm that the offender has caused me and my family and the fact that I now have to live with a PTSD diagnosis that has changed me as a person and impacted my ability to enjoy life to the fullest.” Rodgers walked into the main area of the administration office after he was wounded “My adrenaline was pumping and I was debating whether or not I should give chase,” he said in his impact statement looked at it and processed that it was completely covered and dripping in blood I thought I was going to die from bleeding out so I told myself to just lie down and slow my breathing and my heartbeat.” “I was so scared that I would never see her again,” he said “Because blood was pooling internally and my diaphragm was cut open I was finding it very difficult to breathe or whether or not he was going to run back into the school so I got back up and made an announcement to put the school into hold and secure Rodgers said he may never know why the boy caused him “such grievous harm” that day or why he showed up for school with four weapons “I still have nightmares of his facial expression how much he seemed to be enjoying this moment,” he said of the teen Rodgers says the security guard was negligent and breached his statutory duty by failing to follow safe search and de-escalation procedures in his dealings with the student failing to complete a search of the student and his belongings after finding one knife causing the student to become agitated and aggressive which locked the door and trapped Rodgers inside the office with the student Rogers alleges HRCE negligently employed the security guard search and seizure or de-escalation procedures or techniques.” He also asserts the education centre failed to have or enforce policies surrounding the safety of teachers search procedures and training for employees in the areas of safety search and seizure and de-escalation techniques the plaintiff states that the defendant HRCE is vicariously liable for the damages caused by the acts and omissions of the security officer,” the filing says The statement of claim goes on to say HRCE and the province breached their fiduciary and statutory duties and were negligent in at least six ways including failing to take “appropriate steps to provide for the physical safety of employees from students despite being aware of the history of violence at CPA and specific concerns regarding the student.” Rodgers says HRCE and the province failed to warn him about the student’s “propensity for violence and targeted comments” the boy made about him in writing prior to the assault He also claims the defendants provided an unsafe office “As a result of the negligence of the defendants the plaintiff has suffered personal injury losses and damages,” the statement of claim says stab wounds to the left side of his upper back and left lower chest/flank The plaintiff has sought medical treatment and continues to suffer from pain The lawsuit is seeking relief for damages but does not specify amounts None of the
