The EFF in Gauteng wants Afrikaner-only settlement
slamming what it terms as the preservation of the apartheid legacy
The EFF condemns such acts as a violation of the country’s values of a non-racial and inclusive South Africa
The red berets are urging Tshwane communities to join them in confronting and dismantling apartheid monuments like Kleinfontein and everything they represent
The party also calls on the City of Tshwane to reject any re-zoning applications that perpetuate racial segregation and economic exclusion in order to promote fair access to land and opportunity
says the settlement must be removed and that the party is willing to go to any length to do that
which was established two years before South Africa achieved democracy
was declared illegal in August last year by the High Court in Pretoria
says the law needs to promptly take its course in ensuring that such places are relinquished
“We will do whatever is necessary in order to stop a place like Kleinfontein
or any other white racist enclave to exist in South Africa
Ons saal dit nie ferder toe laat nie!,” proclaims Niehaus
He says the party will continue its mission to highlight the situation
which they believe contradicts the country’s values of equality and inclusion
who work in the Kleinfontein Afrikaners’ dorp (town)
claim to be prejudiced by residents of the enclave
YNews spoke to fueling station workers near the area and they reported receiving antagonistic treatment from some locals
in which one white resident of the white-only town told a black employee that he should speak Afrikaans if he wants to secure a tip from him
so the guy expected me to pretty much help him first
There was an incident where an attendant was told that he will not get a tip if he doesn’t speak Afrikaans,” says anonymous
barred customers from using its public toilets during the EFF march on Friday
The marchers also seek the removal of a billboard near the town that reads “Welkom in AfriForum wereld”
The demonstrators eventually encamped before the white-only town’s entrance
demanding that the City of Tshwane’s urgent action against the white-only town be implemented
Kleinfontein’s racism must be addressed since it forces black people to servitude while providing them with no sanctuary
Dunga believes that the party’s march to the racist town was necessary to demonstrate that the party is aware of its existence in the country and its intention continue manufacturing racism
He slammed as unacceptable the fact that black people in the community are solely forced to hard labour and cannot reside there
“We are here to tell them that this is the same racism that we are calling against because we can never allow an area to be a white-only area where black people are only subjected to sweat and slavery but cannot reside in those areas
There is no area in South Africa or Tshwane
that is a black-only area,” exclaims Dunga
He goes on to say that residents of the white-only town now denigrate black people because they chose to reconcile with white people
He believes it is about time for the country to address historical injustices
such as the oppression of black people during apartheid
believes Kleinfontein should not only be considered illegal
“We went to municipalities to ask them to expropriate abandoned buildings that are hijacked and to convert them to student accommodation
The municipalities told us about spatial zoning
When white people occupy farms that are supposed to be for agricultural purposes
and they are not removed or told about spatial zoning
We don’t want them to only be rendered illegal
we want their house to be demolished,” states Gxabashe
The party calls for immediate action against the racist town
which includes a statue of apartheid architect Hendrick Verwoerd
The party wants the capital city to immediately enforce the Gauteng High Court’s order on the Afrikaner dorp by halting all illegal developments there
The City of Tshwane’s Head of Housing
promising to respond to their demands within the next two weeks
Chipu appeared to reflect the party’s sentiments on the white-only town
“There is no way that the township can actually be accepted on the basis that it is not actually addressing the injustice of the past
I accept the memorandum on behalf of the City of Tshwane
and I will be able to share it with the officials,” said Chipu
The locals have meanwhile defended the area
rejecting claims that they are racist and are preserving apartheid
They have instead described the area as a cultural town

Benoni, South Africa (24 February 2025) — Community clean-up non-profit Clean Projects spent a significant amount of giving love community by way of beautifying it
they’ve got a whole new way for locals to show their love for the planet and people thanks to a new bottle cap collection station
Boasting a sleek heart shape with ample space for hundreds of kilos of bottle caps
the collection station stands proudly as a way for people to recycle pesky bottle caps with intention
When enough kilograms of bottle tops are collected, organisations like the Sweethearts Foundation can use them to trade for wheelchairs which are then given to people who are in dire need resources like this
500kg of bottle tops can be exchanged for a wheelchair
now with a new bottle cap collection heart in tow
hopes are high that Benoni’s momentum will help someone in need move forward in their life with new wheels; all while mitigating litter problems that bottle caps are often the centre of
Benonians have since responded with warmth and love to the innovation which also doubles as a dream Clean Projects have had for a long time
the collection heart was bolted into the ground and is open for collection
it is at the Davidson/Malcom street triangle near the Bunny Park (which the team also gave a wonderful makeover recently)

people from all walks of life continue to band together to better their town
From community eco-activists to the taxi association taking on heartwarming acts to make residents feel safer and proud of their home
Benoni is slowly but surely earning Her stripes back as a jewel of Gauteng
Alison Etherington of Clean Projects spotlighted the unsung heroes of the good work being done in Benoni—the Benoni Taxi Association on a mission to turn the town around
The taxi association had spotted the work Clean Projects were doing at the beginning of their journey as a community clean-up organisation
“They have assisted us since then in monitoring certain areas where there is a lot of illegal dumping and activity,” Alison tells Good Things Guy
the taxi association played a big role on Earth Day
where they united with the organisation to get stuck in and clean up the areas that needed a helping hand
the taxi drivers shared the other kinds of work they had been doing beyond the eyes
spotting illegal and eco-counterproductive activities
including taking on patrols for community safety
helping the homeless find shelter and connecting children with social workers
“We are a family and we respect each other,” Rufus the taxi driver shared of their drive to make change
the taxi association and Clean Projects celebrated by addressing a big area of concern—the area around the Benoni taxi rank and
“The Benoni Taxi Association was instrumental in informing their passengers about what was happening on this very busy bridge
After their morning rush hours they then came to assist with the physical clean up of the bridge
Picking up litter and clearing grass and sand off the kerbing and road
Jerry and George head up the group and have such encouraging attitudes about our town.”

Residents living near Golden Drive and New Modder mining sites in Benoni
endured another night of fear on Wednesday as a violent shoot-out erupted between rival gangs of illegal miners
Benoni City Times reports that according to messages shared on a local community WhatsApp group
the gunfire began at around 17:30 and continued into the evening
sending families into panic as shots rang out just meters from their homes
“It sounds like living in the Gaza Strip,” one resident wrote
comparing the intensity of the gunfire to a war zone
saying the noise was so loud it felt like bullets were flying outside their windows
Local security company Hlasela Tactical responded to distress calls from residents at around 20:30
Jacques Olivier of Hlasela Tactical says when they arrived
they saw illegal miners shooting recklessly from the mine dumps near homes in New Modder
He says the violence stemmed from clashes between rival illegal mining gangs
believed to include Basotho nationals and other factions
They reportedly are fighting over control of recently sealed-off mining shafts after DMR
police and security forces shut down several illegal operations earlier this year as part of a government crackdown
We did not intervene in the gunfight but chased those shooting too close to the community,” says Olivier
Residents encouraged each other to contact the Benoni SAPS during the incident
but it is alleged that no police responded to the scene
Olivier says they saw police vehicles in other areas and expressed concern over the SAPS’s absence
“The police are putting the public at risk by not showing up
These miners are not just shooting in the area
And this is all happening next to Benoni CBD,” he says
residents said the situation calmed down enough by late evening for them to get some sleep
This is not the first time the community has raised concerns about the lack of response from local authorities
Benoni City Times reported similar allegations after a business along Golden Drive complained of police inaction despite repeated calls for help
claimed police officers admitted to fearing the miners
citing the criminals’ access to heavy weaponry and explosives
Benoni SAPS spokesperson Captain Nomsa Sekele refuted claims that police never arrived at the mining site
“Police officers were deployed to the area after receiving complaints via the 10111 emergency number
They did not enter the mining site because it was too dark and dangerous
Flying Squad and crime prevention officers
who patrolled around the Van Ryn mining site.”
Sekele says they received no reports regarding the discovery of bodies of illegal miners following the shoot-out
She reiterated the police are continuing efforts to curb illegal mining activities in Benoni through ongoing operations
The Golden Drive and New Modder sites have been a hotspot for illegal mining for years
because of their network of abandoned mineshafts
SAPS deputy district commissioner Brigadier Lebohang Machakela announced a partnership with the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy to seal off illegal shafts as part of Operation Vala Mgodi (Close the Holes)
but residents say the violence has not stopped
Residents are once again calling for urgent police intervention before more lives are lost or innocent residents get caught in the crossfire

South Africa (24 October 2024)—An art exhibition has done a whole lot of good for the Benoni community after it helped raise a small fortune to support the team keeping Benoni clean—Clean Projects
Earlier this year, art school Art Alive dedicated its 14th annual La quattordicesima esposizione to the betterment of Benoni with support from the Rotary Club of Benoni Aurora
It was an example of how a love and appreciation for arts and culture can lend themselves to community prosperity
The Clean Projects team practically leapt over the moon when they learned how much support had been rallied
“This event wasn’t just a celebration of artistic flair; it was a vibrant reminder of the magic that happens when creativity meets a cause,” the Clean Projects team reflected
The funds will be channelled into the many efforts that keep Benoni clean
including educational prospects that aim to positively impact the community
“For 97 paintings and 85 charity squares to find new homes in just 5 days… you need a patient family
We are so grateful to every single person that made this exhibition a great success,” Art Alive shared
Clean Projects is a community organisation dedicated to active eco-citizenship. From weeding to picking up litter, beautifying spaces and rallying collective action
the volunteers and team work hard to make a difference in the town

The Ysbere booked their spot in Sunday’s final with a dominating semi-final showing against Hoërskool Kempton Park
Venter (41) opened the batting with the in-form Reuben van Zyl (40)
they set things up nicely for their side with a crucial 76-run partnership
Further useful contributions from Charl van Staden (25) and Righardt Joubert (22) boosted Garsfontein to a healthy 153/7 from their 20 overs
but young Katlego Lebelo made it an unobtainable one for Kempton Park by delivering a superb bowling performance
with his destructive intervention leading to Kempies crumbling to a disappointing 51 all out
Affies were every bit as impressive in their semi-final win
making light work of St Benedict’s College
His batting has been one of Affies’ strengths throughout the weekend and he delivered once more against Bennies
