Worldwide Ecuador and Ireland made the annual ranking of the world’s 50 best – have you visited any There are plenty of beautiful places on this planet that feel more like heaven than earth but some of the most heavenly are the long stretches of gleaming white sand with calm So, where can we find these paradise-like beaches? Well, the World’s 50 Best Beaches might be a good place to start The annual list is back for another year with a shiny new ranking created with the input and expertise of more than 1,000 travel professionals.  Each beach has been assessed on its wildlife calmness of water and the soundtrack of nature Recommended: These are the 30 best beaches in the world, according to Time Out.  Claiming first place as the world’s very best beach is Cala Goloritzè, a beautiful stretch of coast in east Sardinia, Italy It was formed back in 1962 after a landslide and has been a UNESCO-protected site since 1995 – boats cannot venture any closer than 200 metres from the shore so you’ll either have to dock and swim inland to make the most of it It’s worth noting that entry to the beach costs €7 per person but with the rugged limestone backdrop and glimmering blue waters getting in to see the views is a no-brainer.  Did you see that these are the world’s 100 best new hotels, according to Travel + Leisure Stay in the loop: sign up to our free Time Out Travel newsletter for all the latest travel news and best stuff happening across the world Thanks for subscribing! Read our Privacy notice If you are looking for the perfect beach to visit this summer, a new report has revealed the 50 best beaches across the globe, with the top spot going to a destination only a short flight away from the UK Ahead of the summer holiday season, The World’s 50 Best Beaches has revealed its annual list of what it believes are the top shoreline spots to visit this year This year, the top spot has been given to Cala Goloritze, a beach in Sardinia, Italy This location impressed the judges due to its dramatic 143-metre limestone pinnacle which they say is almost cathedral-like in its grandeur Cala Goloritze also earned first place for its raw natural beauty and the strong conservation efforts that protect the beautiful stretch of coast The beach can only be accessed on foot or by boat and there is a restricted number of tickets sold per day meaning the beach does not get too crowded To reach the best beach in the world for 2025 flights from the UK to Olbia in Sardinia take only two and a half hours In second place, the list looks to another continent, where Entalula Beach in Palawan, Philippines This beach ranked highly for being a secluded spot remaining fairly untouched and pristine due to being off the beaten path Entalula Beach also impressed the judges with its limestone cliffs making for a dramatic backdrop to its white sandy shores and crystal clear water the latter of which makes for an ideal snorkelling or swimming spot but for those who are willing to make the journey they will be greeted by a tranquil spot with striking natural surroundings Third place also went to an Asian destination, this time found in Thailand on the quiet island of Koh Kood Bang Bao Beach earned its place in the top three for its shallow waters which provides visitors with fresh seafood at local restaurants Some countries were able to bag more than one spot on the list which had three beaches make it into the top 50: Fteri Beach (4th) Voutoumi Beach (16th) and Porto Katsiki (36th) Australia also had three entries with Turquoise Bay (11th) Wharton Beach (21st) and Nudey Beach (37th) Some countries also earned two spots, such as Italy also ranked in the 50th spot with La Pelosa The list was largely dominated by countries in North America with destinations such as the Dominican Republic yet Ireland did sneak in at 48th place with Keem Beach loved for its natural beauty and blue waters For more travel news and advice, listen to Simon Calder’s podcast Join thought-provoking conversations, follow other Independent readers and see their replies {"adUnitPath":"71347885/_main_independent/gallery","autoGallery":true,"disableAds":false,"gallery":[{"data":{"title":"iStock-1192890154.jpg","description":"An aerial view of the beach of Cala Goloritzè - Baunei - Gulf of Orosei","caption":"Cala Goloritze’s dramatic 143-metre limestone pinnacle helped it win top spot Cala Goloritze’s dramatic 143-metre limestone pinnacle helped it win top spot This article is reserved for Daily Dispatch subscribers Questions or problems? straight to your inbox Colombia is a big, advanced and strategically located economy, and its importance fully justified a Capacity CALA panel dedicated to the country’s connectivity market delegates heard why Colombia is likely on the verge of some chunky connectivity growth in the coming years the capital Bogotá is a strong location for facilities thanks to its cold climate too – there is likely to be nearly a third more solar and wind power generated in Colombia by 2028 Another country highlighted by panelists as a potential regional hub is Panama The country is home to landing stations for six submarine cable systems offering both intercontinental and regional connections (with three more planned before 2026) It is also seeing large-scale data centre construction such as the Sparkle's Panama Digital Gateway a green data centre that offers an connection to the various subsea projects coming into Panama also serving as the Panamanian arrival point for the Google/Sparkle Curie cable connecting California to Chile Its position as a connectivity hub is also leading to large-scale data centre construction Sparkle launched the Panama Digital Gateway a green data centre that also offers on open connection to the various subsea projects coming into Panama The Panama discussion at Capacity CALA focused on the data centre side With relatively small distances between the Central American countries and the lack of large data centre facilities Panama's subsea activity makes it a strong contender for future hyperscale-level data centres in Central America Cable resilience and lifespan is important for an island region like the Caribbean and a panel dedicated to end of life planning for cables delved into this matter One consensus was that the 25-year rule – the recommended lifespan of a subsea cable before it needs to be replaced – is not as hard and fast as is often assumed this number should be viewed as more of a warranty than a technical cut-off point This is on top of the improvement in cable technology and materials particularly given that unrepeatered systems useful in the Caribbean for short cable hops between islands have a much longer life than systems using repeaters This could all transform infrastructure planning in the region where it can be extremely hard to secure funding for systems connecting smaller territories and islands this disconnect between the quoted 25-year rule and the actual performance of cables past this date affects government involvement in cable funding – 25 years pass by so governments do not fund new ones even if they are necessary for route diversity and network resilience Alongside the political reality of election cycles and headline-chasing this means getting governments involved in long-term telecoms infrastructure funding can be a difficult ask The problem is that government involvement in cable funding is vital making the private case for cable funding is not easy as in many cases the investment return timeline outlasts the actual life of the cable This is not one you hear much about – but it is important all the same Cable cuts and outages are a constant threat for global connectivity performance it is better where possible to minimise the risk in the first place (although the risk never goes away) One vital part of this highlighted at Capacity CALA is fishing outreach Fishing causes around 70% of cable cuts worldwide and panellists discussed the importance of regular communication with fishing companies to avoid this happening This is not something that has to be done just once One example given was if a fishing crew knows where to avoid a cable but they then retire and a new skipper takes the helm This is one example of the fact that when it comes to communication resilience just a bit of talking and community outreach can save a lot of time One fact often overlooked by the rest of the world is that many territories in the Caribbean are legally part of other countries - to take an example France's longest land border is with Brazil (via the Brazil-French Guyana frontier) Panellists were keen to talk about the implications of this for outside funding, particularly from the EU. Subsea projects in the Caribbean are taking place thanks to funding sources like the Connecting Europe Facility program one being the CELIA Caribbean European Territories Cable project delivered by Orange and Setar to connect Martinique and Aruba Puerto Rico’s status means the territory is eligible for BEAD funding the AI use cases put forward focused on billing and proposal designs Given the turnaround speed for quotes expected by buyers it is no longer possible to take weeks to respond to basic queries and AI development is helping chop this turnaround time down shared their experience of using AI to deliver faster system designs when quoting for projects and Seaborn has deployed the technology to monitor and automate SLA notifications But there are still big questions being asked about AI economics “Who is making money from AI other than Nvidia?” and panellists were united in the belief that this needs to extend to regulatory frictions being removed if the region's digital transformation is to take off With the case for basing large DCs in multiple smaller countries hard to make the obvious solution is for one large facility to serve more than one country - but there has to be an element of unified data protection regulation for this to happen here is an interesting mathematical point raised by a panellist Cost of capital and higher interest rates are a headache for project funding 20% per year and interest rates are at 5% or higher to what extent does this increased cost of capital harm the case for investment Capacity CALA will return in 2025- in the meantime, you can see some event highlights on the website You have reached the limit for gifting for this month The chief development officer of the Starwood Hotels talks about what will be different about the reincarnated brand and what's in the pipeline Click here to access all of this year's 2025 ALIS CALA Conference coverage Development and Deal of the Year for the CALA region were announced during the conference this week at the Loews Coral Gables in Florida Click here to access all of this year's 2025 ALIS CALA Conference coverage Luxury is the most promising opportunity in the Caribbean and Latin America but debt remains expensive Purpose Domains Drivers Profile Investors Newsroom Long-Term Management Vision Value Creation Model Corporate Governance CSV Management Health and Well-Being Community Engagement Respect for human rights Responsibility of Kirin Group which runs Alcoholic Beverage Businesses Food & Beverages domain Health Science domain Pharmaceuticals domain Core Technology that Assures Value Creation Diversity and Inclusion, Culture for Innovation Corporate Policy Corporate Overview Group Companies Company History Our Approaches in Quality Chart Generator Management Policy Financial Data Non-Financial Information Share-related Information IR Library Management Structure CSV Commitments as of 2025 Marketing Communication Policy(MCP) Sustainable supply chain Engagement Holistic Environmental Management Information Disclosure Based on the TCFD Framework, TNFD Framework Draft, etc. Dealing with alcohol-related problems General Meetings of Shareholders Integrated Report Sales Overview Kirin Group Environmental Report Kirin Group Human Rights Policy Activities to Promote Sustainable Procurement JICA-KIRIN Fellowship Program KIRIN CSV REPORT 2020 KIRIN CSV REPORT 2019 KIRIN REPORT 2018 KIRIN REPORT 2016 KIRIN REPORT 2015 Fellow Introduction Strengthening Our Non-Financial Assets Financial & Non-Financial Highlights To Our Stakeholders Kirin’s Foundation for Value Creation KEY POINTS ABOUT KIRIN Download Editor's note: This article has been updated with a quote from Cala Health's CEO Calif.-based Cala Health the maker of wearable neuromodulation therapy announced that it has completed the initial closing of an oversubscribed $50 million growth round Vertex Growth Fund and Nexus NeuroTech Ventures coled the round with participation by all the company's existing investors including Johnson & Johnson (through its VC firm Johnson & Johnson Innovation) Cala Health is a bioelectronic medicine company that focuses on chronic diseases Its Cala kIQ System is a wearable device for individuals with essential tremor which is a neurological disorder that causes involuntary shaking or trembling of the hands The FDA-cleared wrist wearable includes transcutaneous afferent patterned stimulation (TAPS) Individuals can access the therapy on-demand and gain data insights to see their results over time "This new round of funding will accelerate Cala's growth and path to commercialization We plan to continue expanding access to patients including to Medicare beneficiaries who qualify under the new coverage determination and now have access to Cala TAPS therapy," Deanna Harshbarger "We are deeply grateful to have all of our investors join us on this journey These investors bring strategic insights and expertise that will help accelerate our growth and expand our impact They share our commitment to transforming the standard of care for people living with tremor and their proven track record in supporting innovative companies ensures we have the right partners to navigate this phase of growth."  In 2021, Cala Health scored $77 million in funding led by Ascension Ventures PEAK6 Strategic Capital and Innovatus Capital Partners also participated in the funding round Roughly two and a half years prior, the company closed a $55 million Series B round Another company developing wearables for individuals living with tremors is GyroGear, a U.K.-based neuromuscular medical device company. redundancy consultations for nearly half of the technical drawing department in its English headquarters in Buckinghamshire in order to focus on its standardised range Housing Today understands that five members of a dozen-strong team working in the Bourne End office were told on 26 November that they would be made redundant The department’s work is divided between those working on the housebuilder’s standardised range and those working on bespoke designs with cuts set to fall on staff involved with the latter One staff member at the housebuilder told Housing Today that notice of the planned changes to their department had been “incredibly short” and that the decision had “come from top down” Our work all comes from regional offices so it’s all internal to the group,” they said “But it was designed financially to be self-supporting We have our own targets to meet that meets our overheads” the design team had been subject to a hiring freeze for a while which staff had assumed was linked to Cala’s recent sale  US private equity firm Sixth Street and former owner Patron Capital bought the firm for £1.35bn from Legal and General in September Cala confirmed that some roles in its English head office were set to go “We have recently proposed some changes to our design team structure which may impact a small number of roles in our England head office,” said a spokesperson “This is part of our strategic plan to concentrate on our core homes We are committed to supporting those affected through the consultation process.”   The spokesperson insisted that the decision was not influenced by Cala’s new owners “We have been told explicitly that it is not anything to do with that but the timing is very close,” said one staff member who spoke to Housing Today “To be given only a two week period to come to terms with this does feel like a kick Now I wonder how much they had already been thinking about closing it” Cala released its annual report which showed that pre-tax profit had slipped from £169m to £112m last year on turnover down 7% to £1.3bn The business completed 2,917 homes in the year a 3.6% decline on the 3,027 posted in 2022 Deal goes through Academy of Neurology (AAN) meeting in San Diego multiple clinical study presentations exhibited data supporting TAPS The studies showed that TAPS improves underlying tremor severity with consistent usage It also supported the TAPS mechanism of action acts on the same brain network as deep brain stimulation (DBS) data showed reduced ET-related healthcare costs over a 12-month prospective study “We are thrilled that Cala is honored in Fast Company’s 2025 Most Innovative Medical Device Companies List impacting health and culture,” said Deanna Harshbarger “Cala is committed to customer-centric innovation that transforms the standard of care for patients and clinicians With the only FDA-cleared wearable neuromodulation system commercially available for tremor relief in ET and PD patients Cala continues to raise the bar with advancements in technology and clinical evidence.” One analysis looked at data from the multi-center PROSPECT study of 263 patients It indicated that consistent usage of Cala TAPS reduces underlying tremor severity Investigators measured this across eight daily activities with more than 80% of participants improving after one and three months of TAPS at home Cala also reported that a study showed that TAPS modulated neural activity in the ventral intermediate (VIM) nucleus of the thalamus The company called VIM a broadly adopted site for DBS to treat ET and a key area in tremor control Eight patients receiving TAPS demonstrated a correlation between the degree of modulation in the VIM thalamus and tremor improvement It suggests that TAPS reduces tremor by directly influencing neural activity in key tremor-related brain networks The study also demonstrated significant tremor reduction in both the treated and untreated limbs with greater improvement in the treated limb a 12-month prospective study demonstrated significant tremor relief and reduced ET-related healthcare costs in patients Comparing 153 patients using TAPS for a 12-month period to an external control arm of 306 matched patients from a national payor database TAPS delivered a reduction in ET-related costs plus a marked improvement in tremor severity and daily functioning Cala says this highlights TAPS as a valuable treatment option for managing tremors and improving quality of life “We are excited to see Cala TAPS therapy not only provides acute relief for tremor patients but also improves underlying tremor severity with consistent use,” said Kate Rosenbluth “Cala continues to build clinical evidence to support TAPS outcomes improving the lives of ET patients and bringing value to healthcare expanding our strong body of clinical evidence in over 2,000 patients mechanism-of-action studies and real-world evidence analyses.” Copyright © 2025 · WTWH Elected three times as a National, Gee became an Independent in early 2023 and will re-contest the seat against his former party. Calare covers 32,648 sq.km to the west of the Blue Mountains. Beginning at Lithgow, Calare stretches west along the Great Western and Mitchell Highways to take in Bathurst, Orange and Wellington. The electorate also includes Mudgee, Gulgong, Oberon and Canowindra. Unchanged, but see notes on Calare's margin below. (Victories by a party of government are indicated by thick coloured underlining.) The '9.7% v IND' margin shown for Calare is the winning margin of then Nationals MP Andrew Gee versus Independent Kate Hook. The alternative two-party preferred National margin versus Labor was 15.5%. Gee has since resigned from the Nationals and will contest the 2025 election as an Independent. All this means that both of the 2022 margins for Calare are pretty meaningless and the slate has been wiped clean for 2025. Head for the Old Town and walk along the old city walls With icing-sugar white sand lapped by liquid jade waters, this beach – which, even in the high-season month of August, might have only a handful of people on it – is dazzlingly beautiful. Further north again is Cala Matzoc this sandy beach is a vision of how the Spanish Mediterranean coastline must have looked a hundred years ago Planning tip: Bring your own supplies as you won't find many amenities around here a walking trail leads for several kilometers through woodland to a series of four pristine coves The first – and easiest to reach – is Cala Bota; a good 30-minute walk north is Cala Virgili These are small rocky coves visited by a few yachts Just north again is the best beach of the lot a finger of transparent water juts inland to meet the sandy cove Planning tip: Wear comfortable shoes as you'll be doing a lot of walking Secluded and tranquil, Cala Varques is located in Cales Verges de Manacor nature reserve and is accessible only by a 15-minute walk through a pine forest Known for its clear waters and naturist-friendly vibe what it lacks in facilities it makes up for in tranquility Planning tip: This beach isn't easy to find It's accessible via a dirt path from the main road and then a short walk through the forest Probably the most Instagrammed of all Mallorca's beaches thanks to its picture-perfect setting Caló des Moro is a slim strip of soft white sand between tree-lined promontories The clear and calm shallow waters are great for snorkeling Planning tip: The beach is accessible through a narrow and steep flight of stairs There are no restaurants here so pack your own picnic Around 10km (6 miles) from the popular market town of Santanyí is Cala Santanyí At its loveliest before summer is in full swing or just after the holiday crowds leave the crystalline waters are family-friendly and perfect for snorkeling There are hotel and restaurant options by the beach Local tip: Paddleboarding or kayaking are popular, as are dive trips – try Cala Santanyí Diving School Located in Mondrago Natural Park, Cala Mondragó is a protected blue-flag beach with fine white sand and turquoise water A limited number of sun loungers and parasols are available to rent and there are some portable toilets nearby walk to the less-frequented Cala S’Amarador Start the day early and head for the pristine Platja des Trenc – so picture-perfect it has doubled as the Caribbean in several films Backed by sand dunes and set in a natural park this wild white-sand beach with turquoise waters stretches for over 10km (6 miles) There are a couple of small chiringuitos (snack bars) but little else in the way of facilities The beach is best enjoyed for an early-morning swim or to catch the evening sunset Local tip: Head to Colònia de Sant Jordi for lunch. Cassai Beach House or 5Illes Beach Restaurant are good picks Near the upscale resort of Port d’Andratx, with its boutiques and art galleries, is Cala Llamp where locals swim and snorkel in the sparkling but you can lie on a shelf of rock that tilts gently into the sea pine-cloaked cliffs are dotted with villas and rear up like an amphitheater behind It’s a 30-minute walk from town or you can drive there Cala Blanca lies a little further south and is – for the moment – totally undeveloped and absolutely beautiful This Caribbean-like cove of Cala Pi is sheltered by natural cliff sides and is only about 50m (164ft) wide its small size means it can feel a little crowded during peak times The water is still and perfect for snorkeling there are no facilities at beach level – just rows of boathouses – so bring any provisions you’re likely to need Planning tip: Take a detour to the nearby market town of Campos that hosts weekly markets every Tuesday and Saturday from 9am until 2pm including a small playground and pedalos for hire a tiny islet where you can enjoy food and drinks at its little cabana Detour: Take a boat trip from here to Sa Dragonera Natural Park for wildlife spotting This is one of the best urban beaches in Mallorca. Portixol, a former fishing village that's now a suburb of Palma has a boutique feel with stylish residents and trendy seafront restaurants The sandy beach is only about 100m (330ft) long and is popular with Palma residents Local tip: The beach is surrounded by excellent restaurants Cala de Deià is best reached via a short steep 2.5km-walk (1.5 miles) from the pretty village of Deià The rocky cove is popular with the international crowd and rustic chiringuitos serve simple but pricey meals so consider hiking from the village or taking one of the buses from Deià that operate from May to October Planning tip: Head for lunch at Ca’s Patró March Cala Banyalbufar is a rugged shingle and pebble where you can swim or sip a cold one at the beach shack on the rocks and look out over the water It's great for snorkeling and there’s also a lovely waterfall nearby look for the steep steps down to the tiny harbor and traditional fishing huts it's best to park in the village of Banyalbufar and walk down to the beach This white-pebble bay, washed by clear waters, sits at the mouth of the Torrent de Pareis gorge.  Sa Calobra actually consists of two distinct beach areas connects via a pedestrian tunnel to the more secluded Platja de Torrent de Pareis The second beach lies where the imposing Torrent de Pareis gorge meets the sea the small cluster of restaurants here is usually busy by late morning Planning tip: If you can't stomach reaching this beach by road This article is adapted from the Mallorca and Spain guidebooks published in February 2025.
