Ohio — Students and faculty at Cedarville University are mourning the loss of an engineering student known for being a “light” to everyone on campus
was among the 60 passengers and four crew onboard American Airlines flight 5342 Wednesday night when the regional jet hit an Army Black Hawk helicopter while approaching the runway at Reagan National Airport
“She would inevitably take a pause from her so-much-homework and sit down to talk to you for a while,” Schiebout said
Maxwell majored in Mechanical Engineering and minored in Biomedical Engineering
“She could just play games with us for hours if we let her,” Blair said
adding Sunday game nights were a weekly tradition for their friend group
Schiebout said it was fashion that first sparked her friendship with Maxwell
because there's not a lot of people like that at Cedarville.”
But the bond between the roommates was far from superficial
Both Blair and Schiebout said they gave Maxwell some words of encouragement before she traveled home to Wichita to attend her grandfather’s funeral
it's really nice that those were the things I got to say to her last
Maxwell was returning to Ohio Wednesday night
planning to catch a connecting flight in Washington
“I am confident that Grace Maxwell is before her Savior
and I am confident that she is worshiping King Jesus with her grandfather,” said Cedarville University President Thomas White
White got emotional while leading an all-campus program inside the Dixon Ministry Center Friday morning
shining star was taken from us way too soon,” he said
He helped guide the community toward finding strength in faith and leaning on the power of prayer
Maxwell’s friends plan to keep her memory close
and remember the light she brought to the world
“I think she she would be really shocked to probably realize that she'd made that big of an impact,” Schiebout said
“Because she was one of those people that never
never realized that she actually made an impact on people.”
School leaders said Counseling Services Office staff is on standby to help students navigate their grief

was a mechanical engineering student at Cedarville University
She was involved in several areas of campus life such as Resound Radio
a student-focused station through the Department of Communication
Ohio (BP) — Grace Maxwell was returning from her grandfather’s funeral to her studies at Cedarville University when the jet carrying her and 63 others collided with a U.S
Army helicopter on approach to Reagan National Airport
Cedarville president Thomas White relayed a discussion he had with Maxwell’s father
now facing the death of his daughter following that of his father
I can’t say anything that takes away your hurt or your pain
was a junior majoring in mechanical engineering with a minor in biomedical engineering
Her semester project was creating a hand-stabilizing device that could be used for things like helping a person feed themselves
shining star was taken from us way too soon
But we know there’s a God that will make all things new,” White said today
The U.S. Army Black Hawk was flying higher than normal, which placed it in the path of the plane, the New York Times reported
Both aircraft plummeted into the Potomac River after the collision
“[P]lease join me in praying for the Maxwell family during the days ahead,” White wrote in a letter to the Cedarville University community yesterday
“Please also remember Grace’s friends and the entire School of Engineering as we mourn her loss.”
Northside Bible Chapel in Valley Center, Kan., posted on Facebook that Maxwell was a part of an outreach ministry for several years
“We will deeply miss her kind and gentle spirit,” it read
“We take comfort in knowing that we will be reunited with her again
Please offer your prayers and support to her parents and brother during this difficult time.”
Counseling services will available in the school’s chapel
“… If you just need to come by and pray … gather with some friends … pray for the Maxwell family … do what you need to do
We’re going to take that next step forward.”
