A fifth body has been found at the Hennops River in Centurion
The police’s search and rescue team was searching for the three police constables who went missing last week Wednesday
when they uncovered two more bodies a few kilometres apart
Deputy National Police Commissioner Lieutenant-General Shadrack Sibiya says they are trying to establish what could have happened in the river
“This is as a result of a search by the divers as they have been coming with the dogs
following the river from that side of Hennops
It’s almost between 8 and 10 kilometres
we are still busy processing the scene,” says Sibiya
Meanwhile, police are still searching for the vehicle in which three missing officers were travelling after a total of five bodies were retrieved from river
It is not clear at this stage if three of the bodies are those of the missing police constables who were en route from Bloemfontein to Polokwane
or if they are all part of the same incident
The families of the three constables have arrived in Pretoria
The officers went missing last week Wednesday
while en route to their posting in Polokwane where they were to be part of operation Vala Umgodi
we do not want to say a lot while the families are not yet here
they are going to learn some of the things from the media
it was in the early hours of the morning and at this point in time we cannot really determine up until the investigation is concluded.”

CENTURION – Two bodies believed to be those of the three missing South African Police Service (SAPS) members have been recovered from the Hennops River in Centurion
who were reportedly en route to Polokwane from the Free State on a deployment last week
went missing under mysterious circumstances
They were last seen in the early hours of Wednesday
located a submerged vehicle believed to match the description of the missing officers’ car
it has since been confirmed by sources on scene that the vehicle found in the river is not the white VW Polo the trio was travelling in
two bodies have been recovered and positively identified as the missing police constables
both of whom were reportedly attached to the Free State Crime Intelligence Unit
The search continues for the third officer
Police teams are now intensifying their efforts along the Hennops River as part of the recovery mission
Authorities have not yet released the names of the deceased officers pending family notification
This incident has cast a shadow over SAPS as questions arise regarding the circumstances surrounding the disappearance and how the vehicle ended up in the river

Today’s Top Pick is a 1985 Cessna T210R Centurion.
Cessna’s brawny 210 Centurion has developed a devoted following on the used market because of its combination of speed and load-carrying capacity
and its familiar Cessna-style handling characteristics
During more than 25 years of production the airplane developed from little more than a retractable 182 Skylane to a roomy
powerful six-seater ideal for cross-country travel
Turbocharging gave the Centurion better performance at high altitudes and later
pressurization kept passengers comfortable during forays into the flight levels
The aircraft for sale today is of special interest due to its rarity and top-of-the-line performance
The model had a longer wing than previous Centurions
along with other features that aided its overall performance and have made it a longtime standout in the used market.
This 1985 Cessna T210R Centurion has 5,700 hours on the airframe
800 hours since overhaul on its 325 hp Continental TSIO 520CE engine
and 75 hours since overhaul on its MT MTV-9-D210-58 propeller
The aircraft is equipped with LED lighting
Its paint and interior trim were replaced in 2021
The IFR panel includes a Garmin GTN 750 GPS/nav/com
and GTX 345 transponder with ADS-B In and Out

Boipelo Senoge (20) and Keamogetswe Buys have positively identified their loved ones among the five bodies that were discovered in Hennops River
The three SA Police Service (SAPS) constables went missing last week when they travelled from the Free State to Limpopo, where they had been deployed. The white VW Polo they were travelling in was last seen on video near the Brakfontein interchange in Centurion.advertisementDon't want to see this? Remove ads
led police to the Hennops River along the N1
where two bodies were discovered on Monday and three on Tuesday
held a media briefing near where the bodies were found
Police Commissioner Fanie Masemola (centre) at the scene where bodies were found
“We had hoped to find our three police officers safe and unharmed
It is with deep sorrow that I confirm that our three members have been found together with two other bodies,” said Masemola
The police commissioner said the fourth body was that of an administration clerk from Lyttelton Police Station
while the fifth decomposed body had yet to be identified
The circumstances of the officers’ deaths are still being investigated
Masemola said that on Monday, the investigative team found parts of what police believed to be the constables’ VW Polo on the N1 highway bridge over the Hennops River just after the Brakfontein interchange.advertisementDon't want to see this? Remove ads
indicating that the Polo may have struck it
Masemola said that uncovering what exactly occurred hinged on locating the vehicle
“We don’t want to speculate at this stage what led to the discovery of these bodies in this river
Our investigation will reveal those aspects once we find their vehicle,” he said
while Buys and Senoge’s bodies were found on Tuesday
Members of the police on the N1 near the Hennops River on Tuesday night
“The last time I spoke to Boipelo was on Wednesday night when they were leaving for Polokwane,” said Paul Senoge
“I put her bags in the car for her and said goodbye
and I just had to identify my child’s body.”
Paul Senoge at the scene where bodies were found
including that of his police daughter Boipelo
was visibly shaken and struggled to hold back tears as SAPS officers showed them the suspected accident site
Monday’s search also uncovered a Renault panel van which belonged to the Lyttelton Police Station clerk
Masemola said the clerk’s wife told police that he had visited friends in the area on Saturday afternoon but did not return home
A diving unit member at the second location along the Hennops River where the fifth body was found
A passer-by spotted the vehicle in the river and alerted police
We don’t think his vehicle entered the river here
It may have entered at another point because the place where he had gonna to visit his friends is more towards Waterkloof Air Force Base,” said Masemola
He said that there was no evidence that the contables’ bodies were linked to the clerk or the unidentified body and that a case of culpable homicide had been opened

Three bodies have been retrieved from the Hennops River in Centurion
the identification process is still ongoing
A fourth body was found in the area in the bushes
They are three males and one female body. This as police are searching for three police officers who disappeared last Wednesday en route from Bloemfontein to their area of deployment in Limpopo
The trio were last known to be at a garage near the Grasmere Toll Plaza on the N1
Police’s Athlenda Mathe confirmed the search and rescue operations
“The SAPS confirms that its investigation has brought it to the Hennops River in Centurion along the N1
We have three bodies so far whose identities are yet to be confirmed
We are searching for another body and for any other evidence that will assist us in concluding the case of the missing police officers,” says Mathe
CENTURION- Search and recovery teams made a significant breakthrough today in the case of the three missing constables whose remains were discovered earlier this week
A badly damaged vehicle husk was pulled from the Hennops River bed in Centurion
believed to be linked to the white VW Polo the officers were last seen driving
has already seen the recovery of five bodies and several vehicle parts scattered along the river
located the wreckage submerged in the murky waters and began extraction efforts early this morning
A heavy-duty tow truck was deployed to assist in pulling the large metal object from the river
as authorities work to confirm if it is indeed the official police vehicle used by the slain officers
Scenes at the river have drawn attention from the public
and investigators continue to comb through the area for further evidence
The vehicle’s identification and connection to the three deceased constables are yet to be officially confirmed
Police spokespersons have described the discovery as a “major development” in the ongoing investigation into the deaths of the officers
The circumstances surrounding their disappearance and death remain under investigation
More updates are expected as forensic teams examine the recovered vehicle and evidence retrieved from the riverbed
National Police Commissioner General Fannie Masemola says a forensic investigation of the vehicle will commence to determine how the three police officers died
He was addressing the media at the Hennops River in Centurion
This after the vehicle in which the three deceased constables were travelling was recovered yesterday afternoon.
A handbag containing items such as driver’s licences and ID documents and a car service handbook was also retrieved.
Masemola says, “We have got no rules to stick to when you [carry out] forensic investigation. They’re going to go through the car, look thoroughly on [at] the car, and the fact that I’m saying it looks like it capsized [overturned] first.”
“Remember, I’m not an expert, is what I’m seeing. But they will be able to determine, because they are engineers, they are qualified people. They will thoroughly investigate the car, [and] they will be able to tell us exactly what happened to the car.”
Masemola says the retrieval of the VW Polo has brought some relief and a sense of closure.
He explained that the river had been swollen due to a blockage downstream, but once that was cleared, water levels dropped and the car was located.
“We are quite happy that after hard work, we can indeed say the car has been recovered. And, actually, not far from where we suspected the car went through. So it has been recovered by the team.”

Police are continuing with the search for a white VW Polo in which three police constables were traveling from the Free State to Limpopo.
Between Monday and Tuesday, police recovered five bodies from the Hennops river, with three of them being positively identified as the missing cops.
National police commissioner Fannie Masemola says until the vehicle is found, they cannot label their deaths as an accident.
JOHANNESBURG - There's finally some relief for parts of Centurion that have been without electricity for nearly two weeks, as power is gradually being restored to some of the affected areas.
Earlier in April, an explosion at the Brakfontein substation left several Centurion communities in the dark.
The impacted areas include Rooihuiskraal, Heuweloord, Monavoni, Amberfield, Eldoraigne, Celtisdal, and parts of Wierdapark.
Utilities MMC in Tshwane Frans Boshielo said electricity supply to these communities will be restored in phases.
“I wish to announce that power is being restored to the following areas: Rooihuiskraal North, Amberfield 1 and 2. Thanks to the dedication and hard work of the technicians. Thank you for your patience during this time.”
The Proteas Women’s team were left to rue a couple of dropped catches and fielding mishaps with opener Tazmin Brits’ 109 not enough to get them over the line in the Tri-Series opener against India in Colombo
Although Brits was also dropped on 51 by Deepti Sharma off her own bowling and 67 by captain Harmanpreet Kaur at mid-off
India’s overall ground fielding in diving to save boundaries particularly during the death overs proved to be the difference in claiming a 15-run win
India had totalled 276/6 – which would have been a record chase for the Proteas – courtesy of opener Pratika Rawal’s 78 – her fifth successive fifty-plus ODI score – and Laura Wolvaardt’s team leaking 82 runs in the last 10 overs
This was partially due to fielders overrunning the ball on the boundary and the ill-discipline of the bowlers who sent down 13 wides in total
“At the end of the day you’ve got to take those catches
I definitely think if we took that we would have maybe chased maybe 240
I personally feel we should have not chased more than 240,” Brits said
“We didn’t take or manage to take those key moments when needed
And that’s at the end of the day I think that was the win or lose
“I don’t think I want to say India was maybe the better team
They played very well but that’s where they show up when it matters
And I think we didn’t do that today.”
Brits and Wolvaardt switched the momentum towards the Proteas with a brilliant 140-run opening stand to get the run-chase underway
Brits was intent to take the attack to both India’s spinners and pacers
lofting the ball with great authority down the ground as she brought up her first 50 off just 45 balls
which she could possibly have done better though with her 43 ultimately coming off 75 balls at a below par strike-rate of 57.33
But shortly after reaching her third ODI century and smashing successive boundaries to put India under pressure
Brits left the field with severe cramps with the Proteas well-placed on 170/2 after 33 overs
“I think in general the heat over here on the subcontinent and the humidity is something that no South African is actually used to
especially with us fielding first and 50 overs and then batting of course so long,” Brits said
“I got a few cramps and I struggled a bit but yes
I mean I was hoping I didn’t have to come back on due to the cramps
but I mean I’m always eager to try and contribute and help the team where I can
Sometimes I wonder if I maybe batted a bit longer or pushed myself a bit more
maybe we wouldn’t have been in that situation
But I guess at the end of the day that is cricket and yes
of course I would have loved to get the team over the line.”
Sneh Rana held her nerve for India with the off-spinner claiming figures of 5/43
which included the three crucial wickets of Annerie Dercksen (30 off 19 balls)
Brits and Masabata Klaas in the penultimate over
The Proteas have a couple of days to rectify their mistakes before facing hosts Sri Lanka at the same venue on Friday

CENTURION – Teams involved in the search operation in Centurion have discovered metal vehicle parts believed to be from the car that three deceased South African Police Service (SAPS) constables were traveling in before they went missing
uncovered what is suspected to be the front and rear bumpers of the VW Polo that the officers used during their trip
SAPS has confirmed the discovery of the parts and noted that vehicle experts are currently working to verify whether these components belong to the same VW Polo sedan registered as JCL 401 FS—the vehicle used by the three constables who were last seen at the Grasmere toll plaza en route to Limpopo
reportedly belonging to one of the deceased officers

Lamine Yamal played his 100th game for Barcelona against Inter on Wednesday
Just stop and take that sentence in for a moment
A player that isn’t 18 until July has already made a century of appearances at the greatest club in the world
they’re not token appearances for Lamine either
Against Inter we saw the full range of his work
both in terms of his unique skill set when attacking
It is as much down to him as any other that the Champions League tie against Inter is still alive
but one would hope that the player himself would be mature enough to let the club know as and when he needs a rest
Barca not being in the Club World Cup this summer actually might well be one of the biggest blessings in disguise for just that reason
Whilst it’s Pedri that ostensibly oils the wheels
and each player has more than played their part in Barca’s successes this season
can be relied upon to deliver the goods time and again
His sensational record this season in all competitions stands at an astonishing 15 goals and 20 assists
numbers that a player much more experienced than the teen talent would be more than happy with
maybe the one thing we need to do is to bring the tone of the conversation around him back down and stop comparing Lamine to Lionel
it does the former no good at all at this stage of his career
If and when he has won a Ballon d’Or or two
has continued to play at the highest levels possible consistently for a few seasons
then it will be time to let the comparisons begin
He’s a young man that has put a smile back on the faces of anyone with a passion for Barca and that in itself is worth its weight in gold
given where the club were both on and off the pitch a few years ago
There’s genuine hope of a much brighter future now
and one that’s spearheaded by yet another generational left-footed Barca talent
There are not many players in the world of rugby that are completely synonymous with a single team
On Friday night, Smith started against the Hounds, and Seattle picked up a 28-22 win in front of their home supporters and new team owners Marshawn Lynch and Marcus Peters.
Smith has made all 100 of his MLR appearances with the same team he joined in 2019 and has started 90 of those matches
“It’s special for me because I’m doing it at the same club
and I have been fortunate enough to have the Seawolves look after me and put their trust in me for so long
“It is also a testament to the days that you don’t really want to do it
“It’s a big part of what drives me as a player is doing those small things
the little things that will provide the longevity of your career
you don’t know how quickly it does come upon you.”
Smith’s career was at a crossroads before a phone call from a friend led him to MLR
his former Blue Bulls teammate and Seattle captain
tried to tempt the half-back to North America for the league’s inaugural season
On that occasion Smith rejected the proposal as he pursued professional rugby at home in South Africa
Smith wowed Bulls Director of Rugby Heyneke Meyer by playing for the Border Bulldogs
which laid the foundations for his eventual move to Pretoria to represent the team
Fresh-faced from leaving Queen’s College in his hometown of Queenstown
he quickly became familiar with the rigors of elite-level rugby and represented the Bulls’ various age-grade teams
Although it was not always the happiest of times
the youngster found it increasingly more difficult to get game time with other players ahead of him in the pecking order at Loftus Versfeld
Smith joined the Free State Cheetahs and spent 2018 back on the Eastern Cape with the Southern Kings and Eastern Province Kings
Things never really clicked back into gear for Smith
who then decided to get back in touch with Hattingh to see if there was still an opportunity to come to the Pacific Northwest
Smith helped the team become back-to-back champions
one All-MLR First XV of the Season nod in 2022
and has been named in two Honorable Mention XVs
Ask the 31-year-old what his favorite memories in a Seawolves jersey are
and he will unsurprisingly say that the 2019 title
along with the team’s unexpected run to the 2022 Championship Final
where they fell short against Rugby New York at Red Bull Arena
Instead of journeying back to South Africa for the offseason
Smith stayed put and worked on the Pennsylvania farm of Seawolves owner
Wool from the farm’s sheep is now sold by the team
“I always thought I’d play a year or two years and then go to play somewhere else
coming from a professional club in South Africa to Seattle in those early stages
I enjoyed being part of something that was growing and a part of something that was completely new
It is where I was in my life at that stage.”
On top of becoming a Seattle and MLR stalwart
Qualifying for the USA on residency grounds
the scrum-half played in four Pacific Nations Cup games as Scott Lawrence’s side finished fourth overall in Japan
That international reward was recognition not only for Smith’s MLR excellence over the years but also for the years of sacrifice he has made
“There is so much sacrifice that myself and my wife have put into this
“It (Smith’s Test debut) was a special moment
If you had asked me in 2019 that in six years’ time
I’d be playing in America for the Eagles and have this whole life set up
It’s just been amazing to see where I am at the moment compared to where I was.”

The South African National Roads Agency SOC Limited (SANRAL) has announced that construction to repair the sinkhole on the N1 near the Flying Saucer Interchange in Centurion
The repairs to the sinkhole on the N1 come shortly after another sinkhole on the nearby R21 was repaired last month
The total cost of repairs to the two sinkholes was R424 million
with R280 million spent on the N1 and R144 million on the R21
“Given the importance of the N1 and R21 to the economy of Pretoria
the construction work undertaken here was very important
so it was critically important to ensure we minimised congestion in morning and afternoon peak traffic
“One of our major concerns here was the extent of the damage due to the rains at the end of 2021 and early in 2022
and whether the sinkhole might extend further under the N1
which could have led to a total collapse of the road,” Demana said
He explained that the repairs were a complex piece of geotechnical work
“Pretoria is a dolomitic area so when it rains a lot
sinkholes develop in certain parts of the city and this was one such case
The sinkhole led to depressions of sections of the N1 and cracks developing on the entire route
so we immediately took measures to assess the damage and start the repair work
“With sinkholes you never know the extent of the damage until you start excavating and drilling holes and piling in with concrete,” Demana said
SANRAL was made aware of the sinkhole along the N1 in Centurion at the beginning of January 2022
the agency closed off the affected lanes and redirected traffic
A couple of streets including Rabie, End and the John Voster drive intersection in Centurion, Pretoria are closed following heavy rains
The City of Tshwane says a visual inspection conducted by its engineers has revealed no damage to the End Street bridge
a section of the road intersection leading to the bridge is washed away
Lindela Mashigo says the affected intersection might take three weeks to fix
“The city pleads with motorists not to remove the barriers
The unauthorized use of the road is bound to cause further damage to the road surface and may at worst damage their vehicles
leading to possible injuries to the occupants
A road closure must always be respected to avoid any further damage.”
This follows after two people lost their lives due to floods in the area a week ago in December
where a car and a motorcycle were swept away
Several individuals have been rescued from various rivers in the area after becoming stranded in their vehicles
the South African Weather Service issued a level 4 warning for heavy rainfall expected to persist throughout the weekend
Free State Premier MaQueen Letsoha-Mathae says it’s a sad day for the province following confirmation that three of the five bodies found at the Hennops River in Centurion are those of the missing police officers
The officers who are originally from the Free State went missing last week while travelling from Bloemfontein to Limpopo for their deployment
The vehicle they were travelling in was last spotted on camera at the Brakfontein interchange on the N1 driving north
which led the police to search the Hennops River
Letsoha-Mathae says they are hopeful that the police will find the cause of their deaths
“But what we just heard really it is sad
It is sad for the province; it is sad for the Free State government
their portfolios … those are portfolios of bright people,” says Letsoha-Mathae
we have really lost these young people with a brighter future
because they chose this profession knowing quite well it is risky
But they were committed and said we are going to serve the people of Free State,” she adds
National Police Commissioner Fannie Masemola has confirmed that three of the five bodies found at the Hennops River in Centurion are those of the missing police officers
Masemola says the search for the vehicle the officers were travelling in is still ongoing
we searched everywhere for our three missing police officers
Constable Boipelo Senoge and Constable Cebekhulu Linda
We had hoped to find our three police officers safe and unharmed
It is with the deep sorrow that I confirm that our three members have been found together with two other bodies – one being of an administration clerk or a gardener from Littleton Police Station,” adds Masemola
Centurion residents have taken to the streets
protesting prolonged power outages that have left parts of the suburb without electricity for nearly two weeks
The unrest follows a fire at the Brakfontein substation on 3 April
which caused significant damage and disrupted electricity supply to several areas
demonstrators barricaded intersections with burning tyres
expressing frustration over the lack of electricity
The protests continued into Monday on the R55 Road
where residents blocked the road with burning tires and rocks
Gauteng Traffic spokesperson Obed Sibasa advised motorists to avoid the R55 between Centurion and Woodmead
The City of Tshwane has been working to restore power
reporting that five of the eight panels on the Southern Board have passed equipment tests
and ongoing repairs require the entire network to remain offline
cable theft during the outage has further complicated restoration efforts
leaving areas like The Reeds and Heuweloord still without power
Municipal spokesperson Lindela Mashigo stated that while power has been restored to some areas
repair work continues on the network before full restoration can occur
The city plans to provide the next update at 6 pm on Monday
Residents have expressed growing frustration over the prolonged outages
with some questioning the city’s handling of the situation and the lack of clear communication regarding restoration timelines
The protests highlight the community’s demand for prompt and effective solutions to the ongoing power crisis
