Sensibly, its latest addition is a little more practical. Well, it is in the sense that you can actually get crims into the back of it, but they will be having a lovely time back there because this is a Rolls-Royce Cullinan panda car And not just any Cullinan - this one is wearing a Mansory widebody kit with some of the German tuner’s trademark chopped carbon left on display on the bumpers Sounds like the 6.75-litre twin-turbo V12 has been lightly breathed-on too Where does the Cullinan rank among the world’s wackiest police cars, folks? While the Dubai Police are often associated with their fleet of supercars, their latest toy is something a bit more… refined. This time, it’s a heavily modified Rolls-Royce Cullinan from the infamous minds at Mansory tuning Sure, policing is a tough gig, but we can’t help feeling just a little bit jealous of the officers who’ll get to patrol in this luxury SUV all day It’s not every day you see an officer cruising around in the world’s most opulent SUV especially when the standard issue for most of us is a Ford Explorer Read: Mansory Did It Again With The Rolls-Royce Cullinan Series II The authorities in Dubai unveiled their Cullinan at an event held at Dubai World Trade Centre attended by several police officials from across the wealthy city There’s no word on what sort of day-to-day duties the Rolls-Royce will face but it likely won’t be used to chase down criminals the police said it’ll strengthen the force’s presence across key tourist destinations including the Burj Khalifa and Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Boulevard Like other cars used by Dubai Police, the Cullinan sports a white and dark green exterior finish. It’s also the second Mansory-tuned vehicle the authorities have picked up the keys to having previously added a Mercedes-Benz G63 tweaked by the infamous German tuner The complete list of modifications made to this Cullinan hasn’t been confirmed but we can see it features a new front bumper with a splitter made from forged carbon fiber It also rocks front quarter panels and sits on a set of special wheels backed up by flared wheel arches As for the 6.75-liter twin-turbocharged V12 under the hood just in case you need to outrun an Audi R8 or it’s pretty obvious that the Dubai Police are more into flexing than actually catching criminal This Cullinan is just the latest in their ever-growing fleet of cars that show they take their “law enforcement” image very seriously Rolls-Royce Home » Dubai Police Adds Mansory-Tuned Rolls-Royce Cullinan to Legendary Patrol Fleet Dubai Police’s legendary fleet of luxury and high-performance patrol vehicles has expanded once again with the introduction of a bespoke Rolls-Royce Cullinan Unveiled during the Arabian Travel Market (ATM) 2025 at the Dubai World Trade Centre the new Cullinan finds the perfect home in Dubai The Mansory Cullinan brings serious performance to the fleet it can sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in just five seconds and reach a top speed of 280 km/h The SUV has been also extensively reworked featuring premium carbon fibre and aluminum components The debut of the Mansory Cullinan follows an earlier partnership with Mansory which produced a heavily modified Mercedes-AMG G63 for Dubai Police accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.7 seconds Dubai Police’s luxury and supercar patrol fleet has long captivated the world’s attention it has grown to include some of the most exotic and powerful vehicles ever built—part of a strategic effort to boost the city’s image Some of the most famous additions to the Dubai Police fleet include: Dubai Police has also added luxury SUVs like the Bentley Bentayga and off-road legends such as the G-Class AMG to ensure they can maintain their presence both on city streets and rugged terrains when needed While the Dubai Police fleet certainly garners headlines it also serves important operational and public relations functions These high-end vehicles are primarily deployed for patrolling tourist hotspots Officers often encourage tourists the cultural heritage site It will also put more strain on the Rayton sewer and waste water treatment plant which is already failing The Democratic Alliance (DA) Gauteng is calling on the Gauteng Provincial Government to urgently find an alternative site to move the 2022 Mamelodi flood victims We have conducted numerous oversight inspections of the proposed site which is on a wetland and found that this will negatively impact the ecological system and the waste water treatment plant See the video here Should the Gauteng Provincial Government (GPG) continue with this relocation the Rayton sewer and waste water treatment plant will collapse This means sewage will flow straight into the Elands River and the site where the Mamelodi flood victims will be relocated This is unacceptable as our residents need to be able to live in a dignified environment and not be put back in the same situation they are meant to be removed from This is another humanitarian crisis in the making During his 2025 State of the Province Address (SOPA) this year Premier Panyaza Lesufi indicated that the Green Scorpions had made significant strides in enforcing environmental laws this is ironic because Premier Lesufi’s government now wants to move residents to a heritage site and a wetland This decision will also negatively impact tourism in the area they claim to be supporting to grow A DA-led Gauteng Provincial Government would immediately take steps to identify an alternative location for the 2022 Mamelodi flood victims the objections from residents of Cullinan to the proposed development for the flood victims Democratic Alliance, registered non profit organisation in South AfricaReg No: 011-895 NPO Culture and Recreation (SACR)12 Dec 2024 in Press StatementsThe Gauteng Provincial Government (GPG) has again shown a disregard for preserving our environment and cultural heritage the GPG allocated R52 million for a 180-hectare property in Cullinan intended to relocate residents from Mamelodi This relocation threatens nearly 200 unmarked graves and historic structures sparking outrage among affected residents and advocates for environmental and cultural preservation The Democratic Alliance (DA) finds the GPG’s decision to prioritise urban development at the expense of this heritage site both perplexing and disheartening There can be no justification for insisting on investing millions in a project that profoundly disregards the rich historical narratives and cultural significance woven into the fabric of this land the DA demands that the Gauteng government reverse its decision to undermine this sacred space in pursuit of urbanisation and find an alternative location for the residents of Mamelodi This will ensure that their needs are met while preserving land important to the area’s heritage The DA will carry out a vital oversight inspection of the Cullinan Heritage Site on 08 January 2025 and interact with residents of this area to listen to their concerns surrounding the Gauteng government’s planned urban expansion A DA Gauteng Provincial Government would have considered the rules and regulations in terms of the heritage site and the graveyards that are in the area before proposing any development The DA demands that the Gauteng government must assess the impact that this development might have on the heritage site and the graveyards These unmarked graves and historic structures reflect the history and culture of the Cullinan residents and those whose loved ones are buried in this land The DA will continue to push for the preservation of the Cullinan area as a sacred space We are committed to protecting such irreplaceable historical legacies for future generations Culture and Recreation13 Jan 2025 in Press StatementsIt is worrying that the City of Tshwane in association with the Gauteng Province is planning to move the victims of the 2022 Mamelodi flood to a site in Cullinan that encompasses several grave sites a wetland and a historical site where a number of forts were built at the time of the Boer War The ruins of a hospital that was built in 1906 is also on this site Should the building of this housing development continue it will have a huge impact on the natural fauna and flora that is found in and around the wetland This discovery was made during a recent oversight inspection conducted by the Democratic Alliance (DA) to the proposed site for the housing development three failed environmental impact studies have been ignored Going ahead with this planned development is threatening a delicate ecosystem that serves as a natural water filtration system and wildlife habitat The proposed development site for relocating the 2022 Mamelodi flood victims encompasses a crucial wetland area that supports diverse fauna and flora species unique to this ecosystem It is unacceptable that the Gauteng Provincial Government (GPG) under Premier Panyaza Lesufi is still continuing with the plans to build a housing development despite the historical and environmental value of this site This planned development on this site should be halted with immediate effect and more suitable land should be sought for the proposed relocation of the Mamelodi flood victims Consideration must be given to the required infrastructure which will be required in order to humanely accommodate these victims Through the mechanisms in place at the Gauteng Provincial Legisature (GPL) the DA will put pressure on the MEC for Sports and the MEC for Human Settlements; Tasneem Motara to immediately halt the development of the new housing project and seek alternate land for the housing development for the Mamelodi flood victims of 2022 The affected residents must be given dignified housing as soon as possible a DA-led Provincial Government would implement a mandatory heritage impact assessment and create a comprehensive ‘Cultural Heritage Registry’ for all historical sites in tuner MANSORY The high-profile reveal took place at the Arabian Travel Market (ATM) 2025 at Dubai World Trade Centre Finished in Dubai Police’s signature green livery, the one-of-a-kind Cullinan packs a MANSORY-enhanced 610 hp engine capable of hitting 62 mph in just 5 seconds and reaching a top speed of 173 mph Crafted with premium carbon fiber and aluminum components the luxury SUV also features cutting-edge displays and driver-focused technology The West’s luxury carmakers are starting to find their Chinese cash cow is running out of milk. Buyers are increasingly turning to homegrown brands like Zeekr, whose 9X luxury SUV is seen for the first time in these pictures ahead of this week’s Shanghai Auto Show debut No prizes for guessing which SUVs were on the mood board of the designers at Geely-owned Zeekr when they penned this confident-looking monster utility Rivian’s R1S and Rolls Royce Cullinan and Zeekr’s trademark waterwall grille is even bigger than the Pantheon equivalent on the Rolls Related: Zeekr 9X Grand PHEV Is Geely’s $140k BMW And Range Rover Rival The silver C-pillar treatment again mimics a design feature on the Cullinan while the rear LED light arrangement has elements of the Range Rover But strip away those details and the 9X looks quite dated rear-hinged doors and the surfacing lacks that expensive But the 9X doesn’t lack presence either, and that’s half the battle. We’ll have to wait until the show debut tomorrow to find out whether it’s also borrowed Rolls and Rangie design cues on the inside. It might also steal ides from its own 009 minivan brother whose top versions have two fully reclining rear seats and a 43-inch cinema screen The Shanghai reveal will also finally clue us in to what powertrain is hiding beneath that big but the presence of exhaust tailpipe trims in the rear tells us the 9X will be a hybrid The company expects to begin the trial in this quarter US-based biopharmaceutical company Cullinan Therapeutics is due to begin a domestic trial of its drug candidate CLN-978 for treating Sjögren’s disease (SjD) The trial will recruit individuals in the US with active moderate-to-severe SjD who meet the 2016 American College of Rheumatology (ACR) or European Alliance of Associations for Rheumatology (EULAR) classification criteria and test positive for anti-Sjögren’s-syndrome-related antigen A (SSA/RO) antibodies and/or rheumatoid factor Its primary goal is to assess CLN-978’s tolerability and safety in these subjects while its secondary objectives include evaluating the drug’s pharmacodynamics Cullinan Therapeutics expects to begin the trial this quarter, having received US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) clearance to study the therapy in systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and European Medicines Agency (EMA) approval for its use in active Cullinan Therapeutics’ chief medical officer Jeffrey Jones said: “We are pleased to rapidly progress our global clinical development programme for CLN-978 now open for patients living with systemic lupus erythematosus “We are grateful to the investigators in our SLE trial who have been enthusiastic partners in our research and we look forward to opening this new trial to patients with SjD in the US.” CLN-978 is concurrently being investigated in SLE subjects across Australia and in rheumatoid arthritis patients at several European sites The drug is a bispecific Cluster of Differentiation 19 (CD19) T-cell engager with a molecular size of 65 kilodaltons (kDa) It is designed for high-affinity CD19 binding to target B cells including those with very low levels of CD19 An internal team at Cullinan Therapeutics developed the therapy which the company said has the potential to be a ready-to-use subcutaneous treatment option for autoimmune conditions such as SLE View all newsletters from across the GlobalData Media network Please check your email and enter your one time pin below:   Open in Gmail Sorry there was an error loading the audio Read Part One here and Part Three here Don: What interests you about law and its impact on society Cormac: I suppose I’m a person who’s interested in law as a means of changing society There are some lawyers who love the structure of the law I can appreciate the beauty of that structure but it’s not really what interests me about law I think law is fundamental to society and a powerful tool for shaping it Someone once said to me that the law is like the DNA of society it plays a big part in how society replicates itself Don: What’s your view on the role of law in addressing climate change Cormac: To move from a ‘business as usual’ society to an ecologically viable one will require fundamental changes to law and governance environmental law is generally seen as a minor side-branch of law But if the primary objective for humans is to figure out how we can coexist harmoniously within Nature all law should have an ecocentric perspective Archive photo of the orignal defendants in defamation suits brought by an Australian mining company (from left to right): environmental lawyer Cormac Cullinan; Lutzville community activist Davine Cloete; social worker author and commentator John GI Clarke; former Centre for Environmental Rights’ (CER) attorney Tracey Davies; Riaan Oberholzer; Wild Coast community activist Mzamo Dlamini; Tossie Beukes and former CER attorney Christine Reddell even children – all kinds of people – were outside the frame of legal subjects We’ve enlarged the frame progressively to recognise that they are human beings with inherent rights We now need to enlarge that frame to include the natural world and to recognise that all that has come into being has the right to be and to make its contribution to the Earth community If you make the frame Earth itself – the whole community of life – you immediately see: ‘Okay, what we’re trying to do here is looking after our life by conserving all life.’advertisementDon't want to see this? Remove ads Don: What about the legal challenges related to climate change?advertisementDon't want to see this? Remove ads Cormac: Climate change isn’t the problem; it’s a symptom of the problem as is the catastrophic collapse of populations of wild species Solving climate change is fundamentally about changing how we see our role on the planet It’s a cultural problem which arises from the belief in some cultures that the best way to increase human well-being is to take more from Earth Although the cumulative consequences of destabilising the climate are profoundly harmful to humans and most other beings almost every activity that causes climate change is perfectly legal It’s legal to open a new gas field or a new coal mine or build more highways provided you get the permits Cormac: The Paris Agreement aims to keep global warming below 1.5oC because beyond that there will be huge damage to ecosystems and human societies. This will have a negative impact on human rights, so climate change litigation is increasingly human rights litigation. advertisementDon't want to see this? Remove ads it can put sand in the gears of harmful industries There’s a rush to secure rights for new oil and gas fields because companies know the window is closing Litigation stopped a huge company like Shell from undertaking seismic blasting off the Wild Coast Don: Litigation depends on existing laws that mostly see the planet as a free resource Can law be reimagined to better serve the environment Cormac: We need to reframe law to see the whole community of life, making conservation and living harmoniously with Nature the central purpose, instead of focussing on legitimising the exploitation of Earth. This shift requires a revolution in our legal and governance systems. Building a global movement, like the Global Alliance for the Rights of Nature is essential for making these fundamental changes Education and awareness are also key, as younger generations need to grow up understanding the importance of living harmoniously within Nature.advertisementDon't want to see this? Remove ads we need to develop a refined capacity to observe nature by deepening our relationship with place to become ecologically literate Cormac: Rights of Nature is about recognising Nature as a subject This legal perspective shifts the focus from human rights alone to the rights of all beings and ecosystems This concept is rapidly gaining traction globally and is being applied in a growing number of countries but it hasn’t penetrated much in South Africa I don’t believe that existing environmental laws will be enough to stop the ongoing degradation of Earth by people We need to make fundamental changes to legal systems to reflect the reality that our role as humans is to live harmoniously within Nature and to respect the rights of all So that is why for more than 20 years I’ve worked to build a global movement that can bring about transformative change Don: How does this intersect with your work in South Africa Cormac: In South Africa, although the government acknowledges the huge threats that climate change poses and has signed the Climate Change Bill parts of government still promote oil and gas exploration and increased use of fossil fuels This mindset reflects the outdated perspective that the more fossil fuels are available the more society benefits a view that seems to be shared by some judges For example, in one of our cases at Cullinan and Associates the High Court found that the environmental authorisation for a gas-fired power station at Richards Bay had been unlawfully granted The public participation hadn’t been done properly But the judge then allowed the project to proceed on condition that there was proper public participation in relation to the pipeline to connect the power station to the port Similarly, the Supreme Court of Appeal recently agreed with the Eastern Cape High Court that the granting of the right which permitted Impact and Shell to conduct seismic surveys off the Wild Coast was unlawful the court then offered Shell an opportunity to renew the right provided that there was proper public participation I think this shows that many older people come from an era in which more oil and gas was assumed to be socially beneficial and so continue to support the expansion of the fossil fuel industry Job creation is often cited as a reason to continue harmful activities others harm people and the environment and must be stopped we must help people find a way to transition to environmentally friendly jobs but this isn’t a reason to prejudice our children and future generations by postponing the transition to renewable energy If we trash the planet everyone loses their jobs Don: How important are indigenous perspectives in your work Cormac: Indigenous societies are hugely important in that they offer valuable insights into living harmoniously with other beings They have stayed out of Western materialist monoculture of the mind and know how to live without degrading their habitat Protestors during the Liesbeek Action Campaign against Amazon River Club Development on November 12 They understand that we live in an animate community of life that consciousness is not confined to people and that to thrive in that community you must take responsibility for maintaining respectful relationships with other members of that community Don: How much traction are these perspectives getting Cormac: They’re accelerating globally and I believe this will have a profound impact on the world Rights of Nature started gaining momentum after Ecuador adopted it in its constitution in 2008 Young people in Ecuador now see these rights as normal which is a significant shift in perspective I’ve been focused on helping to build a global movement that can become strong enough to make change happen because I realised that if you want to make transformative changes in societies across the world Our main challenge is the deeply ingrained colonial mindset that sees Earth as a collection of objects or resources for people Changing this perspective requires shifting deeply held beliefs and world views There’s also resistance from powerful vested interests that benefit from the status quo having first learnt to be an activist in the anti-apartheid struggle I have great faith in the power of organised civil society to change societies the Rights of Nature movement is accelerating globally For years it felt like a small group of us pushing this big boulder up a hill Now I think we have crested the hill and the boulder is beginning to run away from us and we have to run fast to catch up with it I sometimes say to people: “We’re like a leaf on the tree of life We say this leaf has human rights but deny the rest of the tree any rights It’s quite obvious that the rights of the leaf are meaningless if the tree doesn’t have the right to exist Human life is sustained by Nature and the human right to life cannot be sustained without protecting the rights of Nature Part Three: Climate lawfare: Michelle Bender – fighting for the rights of Mother Ocean Cormac Cullinan has “worked in more than 20 countries” What I’m wondering is how he got there And the relevance of your comment in the context of climate change But if your dreams are at odds with your behaviour it is interesting how many climate activists are (upper) middle class insist on attending international conferences workshop and meetings in person rather than virtually drive cars instead of riding electric or normal bikes often citing safety and/or distance as reasons ' + Shows Its Facelift In Sunny Ibiza The Cullinan competes in a rarified segment since the Ferrari Purosangue is the only other twelve-cylinder SUV The Volkswagen Group killed the V12 diesel-powered Audi Q7 many moons ago while the W12 Bentley Bentayga went away not that long ago If you want the large-displacement engine under the hood RR will go completely electric around 2030 In the meantime, it’s business as usual for the BMW Group-owned brand headquartered in Goodwood. The Rolls-Royce of SUVs received a striking facelift year this year when it gained the “Series II” suffix This marketing jargon is RR’s equivalent of BMW’s Life Cycle Impulse (LCI) Only now a full set of images from the press launch in June has been published the opulent luxobarge poses for the camera in beautiful Ibiza Looking like a Stormtrooper following the unusual front redesign, the Cullinan remains as imposing as ever the ultra-posh SUV is now available with massive 23-inch wheels from the factory Equally attention-grabbing is the large pantheon grille Rolls-Royce is also offering a closer look at the hotter Black Badge version 6.75-liter V12 engine as the standard model but dialed up to 591 hp and 900 Nm (664 lb-ft) at 563 hp and 850 Nm (627 lb-ft) from the same BMW N74 engine the M760i had Interior images remind us that the mid-cycle update has not significantly changed the Cullinan the digital instrument and infotainment have been improved and there are even more customization options expect the first-generation Cullinan to remain on sale until closer to the end of the decade there’s no shortage of opinions—some people loathe everything the German tuner touches while others revel in the over-the-top spectacle the fact that they’ve survived in the business for so long means they have a dedicated following Its latest project is based on the updated Rolls-Royce Cullinan Series II and clearly Known as the Linea D’Arabo, this one-off shares some similarities to another Cullinan that Mansory modified 12 months ago the Linea D’Arabo is even more over the top and is certainly one of the most flamboyant Rolls-Royces you’ll find anywhere on earth Read: Another Rolls-Royce Cullinan Falls Into The Hands Of Mansory Much like Mansory’s standard bodykit for the new Cullinan this one-off has a bespoke front end sporting new grilles with copper accents The tuner has also added new LED daytime running lights re-trimmed the Spirit of Ecstasy in a bronze hue and fitted a new hood finished in bronze with Arabic lettering across it Mansory has then gone ahead and put on a set of huge 24-inch forged wheels with a copper finish These copper trimmings continues across the door handles and the side window surrounds New faux fenders have also been added to the front quarter panels The SUV’s rear end is perhaps the coolest Mansory has installed a large fixed spoiler that stretches out from the roof and also added a small lip spoiler to the tailgate There’s also a bespoke rear diffuser with the same brown finish as the hood along with Arabic letters the Cullinan’s interior has received some attention The seats are now upholstered in brown and black leather complete with custom stitching and illuminated Mansory logos If you thought Mansory was just about looks, think again. Rolls-Royce’s 6.75-liter twin-turbocharged V12 has been fettled and now produces 720 hp and 774 lb-ft (1,050 Nm) of torque That’s enough to send the SUV to 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 4.8 seconds and through to a 155 mph (250 km/h) electronically limited top speed If you thought Mansory was just about looks, think again. They’ve tweaked Rolls-Royce’s already impressive 6.75-liter twin-turbocharged V12 engine boosting output to 720 hp and 774 lb-ft of torque That’s enough to push this luxury SUV from 0 to 62 mph in just 4.8 seconds topping out at a very respectable 155 mph (250 km/h) electronically limited Mansory’s Cullinan Linea D’Arabo is exactly what you’d expect from the brand: unapologetically bold something you’re either going to love or hate if you have the cash to drop on something this outrageous Whenever a high-end carmaker releases a new or updated model, you can bet your bottom dollar that it won’t take long before Mansory gets its hands on one Roughly six months after the arrival of the facelifted Rolls-Royce Cullinan the tuner has unveiled its first take on the luxurious SUV this one is bound to trigger some controversy The Cullinan has always been one of the most imposing SUVs on the market, and Mansory has created several modifications to make sure that heads will turn wherever it goes Whether you like these ‘upgrades’ or not will come down to personal taste but there’s no denying that they are dramatic Watch: Joyrider Steals $400,000 Rolls Royce Cullinan, Crashes Into Checkers Drive-Thru Minutes Later The low air intakes and lower grille are tweaked and the LED daytime running lights are extended, with the bumper grilles getting the same pattern as in the iconic Rolls-Royce grille Blue and white backlighting (depending on the specification) makes the new grilles stand out even further A carbon fiber front splitter also catches the eye pictured here in both blue and white finishes The new hood is offered in two different carbon fiber finishes while a set of flared wheel arches and carbon fiber vents to the front quarter panels further add to the presence of this extravagant SUV Carbon fiber extends across the door panels and side skirts with a set of 24-inch forged aero-disc wheels completing the looks If Rolls-Royce were to hire a bunch of engineers and designers from Mercedes-AMG, it might cook up a rear fascia for the Cullinan similar to what Mansory has created A carbon fiber diffuser immediately stands out and has been complemented with a pair of aftermarket tailpipes There’s also a carbon fiber lip spoiler on the tailgate and a wing stretching out from the roof No Mansory project would be complete without some performance upgrades so the tuner has managed to extract 720 hp and 774 lb-ft (1,050 Nm) from the Cullinan’s twin-turbo V12 Bank robbers often choose big, expensive and powerful all-wheel drive cars as getaway vehicles, though picking a Rolls-Royce SUV is certainly a new one on us But that’s exactly what one thief did he even paid $1,750 a day in rental fees to make it happen Metro Detroit man Dorian Sykes is currently wanted by authorities after being identified as a suspect involved in two bank robberies this month The first attack was at the Credit Union One branch in Sterling Heights on March 6 Related: Joyrider Steals $400,000 Rolls Royce Cullinan, Crashes Into Checkers Drive-Thru Minutes Later he is believed to have walked into Chase Bank in Lathrup Village where he passed the teller a note that made it crystal clear what was happening “Give me all the money, I have a gun, I will kill everyone,” the note read, according to a Fox2 Detroit report But “all the money” turned out to hardly any money at all. The suspect fled with just $3,400 – not even enough to cover two days’ rental of the Cullinan getaway car that was waiting outside The Rolls was rented from Sam Zahar of Southfield’s Dream Luxury Car Rental, who know nothing about the Cullinan’s life of crime until he recognized it in a social media video. This is the same rental agency that recently had a Rolls Ghost go missing during transport from Florida after hackers changed the delivery address The Cullinan was eventually recovered having suffered about $15,000 of damages but Sykes – who was identified as the assailant by the FBI – was not apprehended and is still wanted by police Renting a highly eye-catching $400k luxury SUV to pull off a bank robbery rather than stealing something more discrete for the job doesn’t seem that smart, but if Sykes is the perp, it’s not like he’s new to the game. Fox2 reports he had been on supervised release since February having been convicted in relation to a 2020 bank heist On that occasion he was slumming it in a black Mercedes getaway car The trial will assess the therapy’s pharmacokinetics The European Medicines Agency (EMA) has approved Cullinan Therapeutics’ clinical trial application for CLN-978 a drug intended to treat rheumatoid arthritis (RA) The Phase I open-label trial will focus on subjects with active adhering to the 2010 American College of Rheumatology/European Alliance of Associations for Rheumatology Classification Criteria It aims to assess the therapy’s pharmacokinetics the trial is due to begin at Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore in Italy and FAU Erlangen-Nuremberg in Germany CLN-978 is a cluster of differentiation 19 (CD19) × CD3 bispecific T cell engager designed to target B cells The drug is intended to provide a subcutaneous delivery alternative for individuals with autoimmune conditions including RA and systemic lupus erythematosus It is currently being evaluated for the treatment of systemic lupus erythematosus in Europe Cullinan Therapeutics chief medical officer Jeffrey Jones said: “We are pleased to announce the achievement of an important regulatory milestone allowing us to initiate a clinical trial of CLN-978 in RA in the second quarter of this year with leading research institutions in Europe as we simultaneously advance our systemic lupus erythematosus trial at sites around the globe “Delivering the potency of T-cell redirecting therapy with the potential for disease modification CLN-978 offers off-the-shelf access and convenient subcutaneous dosing for improved accessibility and treatment flexibility for patients with a range of autoimmune diseases.” Cullinan Therapeutics develops therapies designed to treat autoimmune diseases and cancer by inhibiting key disease drivers or helping the immune system to kill diseased cells Last year, the company announced positive topline data from a Phase I/II trial of its pipeline candidate zipalertinib following treatment with Rybrevant in patients with non-small cell lung cancer View all newsletters from across the GlobalData Media network. It seems like only yesterday that the 120-year old manufacturer of some of the world’s most luxurious and high-status symbol vehicles made the decision to build a “high-sided vehicle“ and the accompanying fury in internet comments Surprisingly, the Rolls-Royce Cullinan has been with us a little while now; it’s six years on from the original announcement and the car’s subsequent arrival on the roads Rolls-Royce has accordingly taken the opportunity to give the car a little bit of a refresh to create the Cullinan II That’s effectively a second-generation car although the changes are more subtle from some angles than others We’ve had the chance to drive the car around the roads of Yorkshire for a little while to check out the car named for the largest diamond ever discovered in “Black Badge” specification The Cullinan’s heart remains the BMW-sourced twin-turbocharged N74 V12 which you’ll find elsewhere in the Rolls-Royce range Although the N74 has also been used in the BMW 7 Series coming in a 6.75-liter capacity and producing 563hp That’s the same as the original Cullinan and the facelift model still eschews any form of electrical assistance However the Black Badge model again has a little bump in the power output with 591hp on tap as well as another 37lbft of torque at some 664lbft In both cases that drives a ZF-sourced eight-speed automatic Performance is just about immaterial really old Rolls-Royces merely had “sufficient” power and in this case that means a hustle up to 60mph in around five seconds and a restricted 155mph top speed Not that you’ll be doing either of those things because the Cullinan doesn’t exactly encourage it; there isn’t even a rev counter in here Provoking the V12 into life also means that the official fuel economy of around 17mpg (Imp) plummets quicker than the car goes forwards so officially the range is about 375 miles The V12 is barely perceptible when you fire it up for the first time and it doesn’t get all that much noisier if you start pressing the right-hand pedal I’ve driven quieter — most of the more-modest EVs make very little sound — but it’s a close call and the Cullinan certainly has to be up there in terms of hp or even cc per decibel That doesn’t particularly inspire the need to hustle to car even if you’re not petrified of returning the incredibly expensive press car (or its immaculate 23-inch wheels) to Rolls-Royce in a different shape than it was previously Nonetheless it feels lithe enough for a vehicle that’s closer to three tons than to two In general terms the Cullinan’s body roll feels rather well-contained side-to-side There’s a little sense of a rising hydrofoil if you really stamp loud pedal but it’s not a really significant rearwards squat with the car better suited to chauffeur-style anticipation of deceleration than track-day hard stops Maneuverability is enhanced by four-wheel steering which makes the Cullinan really very easy to drive around tighter urban roads despite its size compared to normal UK traffic Putting away your inner hooligan is really the only way to drive the car though The whole thing is geared towards the maximum amount of waft and we actually mean that literally as the gearbox itself takes cues from the navigation system to hold onto gears going uphill and advance them going down as the Cullinan also employs the same camera-based suspension adjustment system (called “Flagbearer”) as other models in the Rolls-Royce range The car continually scans the road ahead with a pair of cameras and tweaks the air suspension appropriately for the surface There’s two reviews’ worth of comments we could make on the car’s cabin alone but we do have to hit “submit” at some point if you could imagine the most sumptuous environment you’ve ever been in then the Cullinan is as good or — unless it was another Rolls-Royce — better even more so in the back if you opt for the two-pew Individual Seat option rather than the standard three-seat configuration and even massaging should you go for that option and really it’d easier to list what it doesn’t have than what it does However there’s some highlights for the Cullinan II too The updated car sports a full-width glass fascia with an illuminated gallery on the passenger side that features the wordmark and a “cityscape” graphic That can be personalized as part of the extensive Bespoke program Importantly there’s also an updated version of the Rolls-Royce infotainment OS which made a debut on Spectre and provides a more intuitive interface than the previous car with individual device connection for the two rear screens Bluetooth for the rear entertainment system One neat new feature is the incorporation of the “Spirit of Ecstasy” (fun fact for you: she’s called Eleanor) in the cabin illuminated in a small glass display case along with an analog clock there’s a lot of scope for upgrades to various items — fancy an 18-speaker 1400-watt audio system which uses the car’s own aluminum structure as a giant subwoofer — as well as a huge range of personalization options specify cloth seats with a special “Duality Twill” material made from bamboo with the Morganite exterior paint and the Peony Pink interior highlights Literally: you can have the starlight headliner made to any light pattern you want Rolls-Royce doesn’t habitually list prices on its cars largely because it likes to sit down with each customer and go through an extensive commissioning process In fact that’s actually why I was driving it in the first place as the brand has just opened a new dealership in Leeds The Black Badge model is actually slightly less customizable as it comes with a whole host of pre-installed options but you can still send the price up pretty high through the Bespoke service We’ve no idea how much the car we actually drove would cost with the options installed but on its own the Black Badge is in the region of £380,000 (~$500,000) — compared to the “Silver Badge” at £300,000 the Cullinan fits into a pretty well-populated bracket now of highly aspirational SUVs (ignoring Goodwood’s protestations at this branding) There’s really no shortage of them: Aston Martin DBX Ferrari Purosangue (Maranello being no more keen on the classification) It doesn’t really duke it out with any of them though Really it’s only a rival for an extremely highly specified Range Rover — but the pricing isn’t especially close even if you tick every box that Coventry will allow the very well-to-do may turn up at polo matches in either and while the Cullinan isn’t necessarily as adept at off-roading as the Rangey the R-R is going to get as far away from an asphalted road as the average RR anyway A second-hand Cessna 182 might be a viable option it’s not like a typical Cullinan customer is going to need to make any kind of choice here building a car like the Cullinan is easy; it’s virtually a blank cheque to do whatever you want the execution needs to be pretty close to perfection because when your customers are dropping near-enough 500 large on a car they’re going to be rather discerning Like or loathe the trend towards these behemoths — and it’s not like the brand has been shy and understated in the past — it’s very difficult to argue that Rolls-Royce hasn’t nailed it It’s not so much a car as it is a piece of theater or an event that happens around you while you’re cocooned in several inches of lambswool There’s no hybrid or electric option yet for example; “rivals” offer both and Rolls-Royce does now have that in its arsenal with the Spectre Having such a system providing some regenerative braking might also improve the raw stopping power too which is the only real weak area in the driving manners — not that you should be dropping anchor in a Rolls it’s an almost flawless execution of the Rolls-Royce ethos in SUV form See more articles on and FIRST LOOK: 2020 Honda City RS i-MMD Hybrid Jaecoo J7 PHEV review - cheapest PHEV on Malaysia Autoshow but evidently it could not wait that long – so it’s decided to launch all of them today The one that enthusiasts will be most interested in is undoubtedly the Golf GTI Black Edition well as JPJ-compliant window tint If you were miffed that the Edition 50 was only offered in white or grey because the Black Edition can be had in either Kings Red or Deep Black (obviously) the Black to VPCM’s official spec sheets the standard Arteon with VAP comes with a five-year 75,000-km maintenance package and five-year roadside assistance the Wolfsburg Edition’s maintenance package is for seven years or 105,000 km (whichever comes first) with all else (vehicle warranty and roadside assistance) being equal including the 15,000-km or 12-month service interval the Wolfsburg Edition is from a study carried out by the Vehicle Theft and Accident Reduction Council of Malaysia (VTAREC) show that while the number of motorcycle-related fatalities was 12 times higher than those involving cars, only 13% of accident cases were caused by motorcyclists, The Star reports According to VTAREC coordinator Mas Tina Abdul Hamid the study conducted by the council revealed that 67% of accidents were caused by cars while 20% were caused by commercial vehicles.“Often but here we have learnt that it is car drivers who need greater awareness on road safety and need to be educated on defensive driving,” she said She said that the findings also revealed that the data regarding road accidents and fatalities is alarming Human error is the primary cause of road crashes making up to eight out of the 10 factors that cause traffic crashes The yearly deaths from accidents can fill graves that may require space the size of six football fields,” she said In its latest sales update Proton revealed that the locally-assembled (CKD) X70 was unveiled in Bangladesh on April 30 The C-segment SUV was previously sold as a fully-imported (CBU) model through PHP Automobiles with local assembly taking place at the Rancon Auto Industries facility located in Bhawanipur the made-in-Bangladesh X70 is priced at 3.85 million Bangladeshi taka (about RM134k) which is less than the CBU version that retailed for between Tk4.4 and 4.8 million (RM153k and RM167k) with only a single variant available (the CBU had two) that is powered by a 1.5 litre turbocharged inline-three petrol engine rated at 177 PS (174 420 km and powers a front electric motor with 95 PS (94 hp or 70 kW) and 180 Nm of torque for a 0-50 km/h time of 4.3 seconds The mid-spec Fashion Edition (109,800 yuan or RM64k) gets the same battery as the base option but its electric motor is uprated to provide 177 PS (174 hp or 130 kW) and 290 Nm This sees the 0-50 km/h time drop to 3.5 seconds albeit at the expense of range that goes up to 410 km At the very top is the Knight Edition with a larger 60.48-kWh battery and even higher outputs of 204 PS (201 hp or 150 kW) and 310 Nm The 0-50 km/h time is identical to the Fashion Edition but The post’s main image shows the regular hot hatch with a Tiguan and Arteon, so the SUV and big sedan could very well be the other models being given the SE treatment. Will it be the same dark theme as the teased GTI “The top 10 cars most frequently involved in accidents, and leading the list is the ‘King of Malaysia’ (Myvi). Yamaha 135LC was the motorcycle most frequently involved in accidents with almost 3,000 cases followed by the Yamaha Y15ZR with 2,154 claims “Both vehicles (Yamaha 135LC and Y15ZR) accounted for about 30% of total motorcycle accidents last year,” said Mas Tina a total of 266,716 accidents were recorded nationwide with car accidents making up the majority with 229,739 cases This is followed by put pressure on costs weaken business sentiment and ultimately burden consumers should be deferred for the time being “The rationalisation of RON95 subsidies in June this year should be put on hold and the same goes for the hike in electricity tariffs in July,” he said in parliament Bagan MP Lim Guan Eng voiced a similar tone saying that the floating of RON 95 prices to match market rates should also be delayed He added that the recent announcement to defer the expansion of the sales and services tax (SST) scope from May 1 was a welcome move The government is scheduled to introduce targeted RON 95 subsidies in the middle of the year but there has been a lack of clarity so far over the implementation mechanism that will be used the government had yet to define how it would establish about  “Here It Is” is the recently released album by fiddle player James Cullinan  It consists of 14 tracks of breathtakingly gorgeous pure drop fiddle music that will immediately remind you of the power and beauty inherent in the Irish tradition up-to-date news and views from Irish America  Although born in Kilnamona, Co. Clare, Cullinan and his wife Carol have, for the last 30 years, resided in nearby Doolin, where they run Cullinan’s Restaurant and Guesthouse Cullinan is a beloved member of the musical community and he’s had some notable moments over the years including as a member of Gearóid Ó hAllmhuráin’s group the Dísirt Tola Band and “Happy to Meet,” the album he and his wife made in 2002 with the legendary flute player P  Cullinan was also a guest artist on Kevin Crawford’s album “In Good Company.”  However because this standout fiddler hasn’t really put his music “out there” in a meaningful or consistent way you’d be forgiven for not knowing more about him  Before I say too much more about Cullinan’s music because their participation says quite a bit is the featured piano player for half the album and you can sense the synergy between them making her role here important to the album’s success  But the album also sports an eye-popping array of other notables each of whom appears on multiple tracks and makes important contributions  I think their extensive involvement here as “supporting cast” makes a real statement about the well placed esteem they have for Cullinan and his music which makes this album an extremely easy one to enjoy  The grace in his playing is only accentuated by the tune selection  Every track has something to recommend it and as I listen one that immediately jumps out is “The Peeler’s Pocket / …,” a set of reels that begins with Cullinan fiddling alone  His tone is robust and full of spirit and becomes even sweeter when the piano and bouzouki enter to elevate the sound  I love the jig tracks “Charlie Mulvihill’s / …” and “Paddy Fahy’s,” both of which have great life and are lovely interpretations of beloved favorites  The hornpipe tracks “Galway Bay / …” and “Caisleán an Óir / …” also ring long in my ears  Both feature Cooney’s impressive guitar playing (his playing on the latter track being particularly otherworldly) and it mixes so nicely with the subtle nuance in Cullinan’s own work “The Fiddler Mick Hoy / …,” which includes his wife  The only track to include additional melody players it makes a lovely statement about the music inherent in Cullinan’s family Pic of Day: 44 years after his hunger strike death a statue of Bobby Sands has been unveiled in Belfast See full report in this week's Echo Print/.. The 9X SUV has been unveiled at the Shanghai Auto Show where it has - surprisingly - drawn comparison to the enormous Rolls-Royce Cullinan... but for a fraction of the cost. Exact pricing of the large Chinese family car is not yet known but is rumoured to start from as little as £50k. That's some saving on the £300k commanded by the Roller equivalent. But it's not just the price that stands to make the 9X appealing; the plug-in hybrid drivetrain promises more than 186 miles of EV-only driving combined with supercar performance. And Zeekr is ready to rattle the established Western luxury SUV market with its uber-luxurious interior and the practicality that positions it against big names like the Range Rover. It's not confirmed if or when the 9X could arrive in the UK, but Zeekr is expected to start selling some of its models on our shores from 2026. The Zeekr 9X by the Geely-owned Chinese automaker is a rival to the Rolls-Royce Cullinan and Range Rover but will cost around the same as a family SUV at just £50k+ Zeekr sits under Shanghai parent company Geely – which also owns Polestar, Volvo and Lotus amongst others – and has former Bentley chief designer Stefan Sielaff in its staple of automotive experts. Alongside the 9X’s reveal, Zeekr also confirmed plans to arrive in the UK from next year, with Zeekr Europe CEO Lothar Schupet telling the Independent: ‘We are in discussion with dealer groups to enter the UK. ‘Our plan is to be live in the UK early next year and we’re trying to accelerate as much as we can.’ The Zeekr 9X is a large SUV measuring 5,290mm long (longer than the Range Rover’s 5,252mm) with a wheelbase of 3,220mm, and offers either six or seven seating options for maximum big family practicality. For those looking for a room limo, there’s an option to have four spaced-out chairs with ‘executive style’ seating. Left: From the front, it looks rather like another luxury SUV.... and it's huge: at 5.3m it's even longer than a Range Rover. Right: The Rolls-Royce Cullinan: It's not hard to see the visual influence it's given the Zeekr 9X Left: Zeekr's move into the ultra-luxe car market will cause established high end Western marques some concern, as Chinese influence in automotive continues to grow overseas. But the Cullinan (right) - a luxurious SUV loved by the rich and famous - starts from close to £300k and every car has a very specific price due to the bespoke nature of the model The 9X’s 900V architecture can handle 480kW ultra-rapid charging, which delivers 310 miles of charge in just nine minutes. The plug-in hybrid SUV will use a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine and two electric motors for a total range of 932 miles; this makes it the first Zeekr model to use its ‘Super Hybrid’ technology. The 'Super Electric Hybrid' tech will merge pure electric, plug-in hybrid and range-extender advantages to promise disruptive efficiency and performance. Super Hybrids with huge combined ranges are one of the biggest emerging trends in new Chinese cars, with the Jaecoo 9HS and forthcoming Omoda 9 SHS both using 'Super Hybrid Systems'.  But for the Zeekr 9X it's the supercar-like three-second sprint time from 0 to 62mph that will get heads turning, more so than its Rolls-Royce Cullinan looks. The chrome detailing and large imposing waterwall grille are both very similar to the Cullinan, as is the angular, boxy shape. But it also has hints of the Rivian R1S, the Range Rover and the Jaecoo 9HS. And then there's some fancy, luxury design features such as the 'Ring Screen Star Diamond' taillight assembly with 43,343 individual diamond-cut facets called the 'Side Wing Star Diamond Matrix' which complements the 9X's front-end design. As well as cut-price luxury, the Zeekr 9X has some insane performance for such a massive car, managing 0 to 62mph in just 3 seconds The 9X is not yet announced for right-hand markets including Australia or the UK, but it is possible this will come after Zeekr lands in the UK next year Zeekr is already on the roads in Australia but is yet to reach the UK.  However, as the 9X uses the same SEA architecture as Geely’s Volvo and Polestar brands, right-hand drive is a natural step. And while the 9X hasn’t been confirmed for Australia, Mars Chen, CEO of Zeekr International told EV Central that the country will get either a smaller (but still large) SUV than the 9X, or the 9X itself. Neither the pipeline smaller SUV or the 9X are big volume cars, but they shoot Zeekr into a new territory of ultra-luxury car production.  Chinese tech advancements on the Zeekr 9X The 9X will be the first Zeekr model to feature the G-Pilot intelligent driving solution This builds on Zeekr’s Level 3 autonomous driving architecture and utilises the ZEEA 3.0 central computing digital architecture to improve end-to-end communication response speed by 50 per cent The 9X will use five LiDAR units – one long-range LiDAR and four supplementary short-range LiDARs for blind-spot coverage –  for 'four layers of 360-degree perception capabilities.' The price of the 9X SUV is not yet confirmed but Zeekr's 009 people mover costs $130,000 and the 9X is touted to start from just under £51,000 ($68,000) and go up to around £102,000 ($136,000) This makes it almost a sixth of the price of a Rolls-Royce Cullinan which starts at just under £300,000 with exact prices depending on specification The comments below have not been moderated By posting your comment you agree to our house rules Do you want to automatically post your MailOnline comments to your Facebook Timeline Your comment will be posted to MailOnline as usual We will automatically post your comment and a link to the news story to your Facebook timeline at the same time it is posted on MailOnline To do this we will link your MailOnline account with your Facebook account We’ll ask you to confirm this for your first post to Facebook You can choose on each post whether you would like it to be posted to Facebook.
