The game was effectively over after 20 minutes as Ollie Pearce steered home his 31st league goal of the season from Lewis Richardson's right-wing cross on 16 minutes before Cam John added a quickfire second when he took the ball around Joe McDonnell in the Eastleigh goal and slotted home
The win extended York's unbeaten run to eight matches as they now prepare for a home play-off semi-final in their bid to join Barnet in the EFL
The result left Eastleigh in 13th place in the final standings

pollution in the Jukskei River Catchment Area
particularly in Edenvale and Eastleigh Spruit
Numerous incidents of river contamination with harmful chemicals
including paint and raw sewage from upstream sources
This timing hinders environmental inspectors’ ability to trace and investigate the pollution effectively
The ongoing water pollution crisis poses a significant health hazard to residents and devastates the river’s ecosystem
leading to a dramatic decline in aquatic life
the City of Ekurhuleni (CoE) must establish a dedicated multi-task team to monitor river pollution and enforce environmental compliance rigorously
Adequate funding should be provided for the maintenance of water and sanitation infrastructure
bioremediation efforts are crucial to decontaminate the Jukskei river
The Democratic Alliance (DA) will draft and submit a petition on behalf of residents to demand effective and permanent solutions to this crisis
we will ensure an increase in the number of enforcement officials responsible for waste management and the protection of our natural environment
It is time for decisive action to restore the Jukskei River and safeguard the health of our communities and ecosystems

The Prime Minister has warned that water company executives could now face jail for concealing sewage spills
as Parliament heard criticism of Southern Water’s performance failures in Eastleigh — including a major pre-Christmas water outage
Keir Starmer said new legislation now in force would give regulators and ministers stronger powers to act
“Under new powers that came into effect last week
water bosses can now face years in jail for concealing sewage spills
We have banned the payment of bonuses and introduced new powers
and of course we are delivering a major review through our water commission.”
Labour’s new Water Act allows for criminal charges against executives who conceal pollution
It also bans bonuses for company bosses and creates an independent commission to oversee the sector
Ministers say the changes reflect growing public anger and a need for tougher regulation
Southern Water has been responsible for a pre-Christmas water outage that left thousands in areas including Bishopstoke without supply
sewage discharges into the protected River Itchen
surface flooding linked to infrastructure works
and disruption to homes and businesses along Allington Lane
The Prime Minister said the previous Conservative government should apologise to Eastleigh residents for the condition of local rivers and the volume of sewage discharged under their watch

Tyrese Shade put the visitors in front after 14 minutes
played in on goal by Ben Close before finding the bottom corner of the net
Woking then drew level three minutes before the break when Aiden O'Brien headed in from Jacob Jones' free-kick
Shade had Eastleigh back in front just after the hour with a powerful strike into the top corner that left Woking goalkeeper Ollie Webber with no chance
But Shade then missed a chance to make it a hat-trick with a free header and Andrews made Eastleigh pay when he curled an 86th-minute free-kick around the wall to level

Southern Water says it has completed sewer connection works at a Fair Oak garden centre as promised by 2 May — but the business owner at the centre of the long-running dispute says the job remains unfinished and continues to affect trade
proprietor of Allington Nursery and Garden Centre on Allington Lane
has accused the company and its contractors of leaving fencing and surface reinstatement work incomplete
and of failing to honour commitments made in court and in writing
In an email to Southern Water sent on Thursday 2 May and copied to Eastleigh News
fence not done… the only bit you lot are bothered about \[is] the pipe.”
He added that restricted access had disrupted deliveries in the run-up to the May bank holiday weekend — one of the busiest periods in the horticultural calendar — following similar disruption over Christmas and Easter
Southern Water insists the work was completed by the revised deadline
said photos taken that afternoon show the area restored
with fencing in place and bollards added to protect new tarmac
He confirmed that gravel had been laid where agreed and that a temporary security unit had been left on site until the alarm can be serviced
Southern Water said a site meeting would now be arranged to address any remaining snagging issues
Mr Goodridge maintains that the job has taken three weeks instead of the one-week timescale presented to the court
and says the standard of work falls short of what was promised
This latest dispute forms part of a wider pattern of disruption experienced by local residents and businesses linked to the ongoing construction of the One Horton Heath housing development
flooding and other infrastructure-related impacts across the area

Tommy Scott signed for Eastleigh in summer 2023
Eastleigh goalkeeper Tommy Scott has described the experience of playing in the new Baller League as "a bit surreal"
The 25-year-old has been part of the Deportrio side that is managed by Alan Shearer
exciting form of football," Scott told BBC Sport
Baller League is a six-a-side format that originated from Germany
set up by entrepreneur Felix Starck alongside footballers Mats Hummels and Lukas Podolski
The UK league's president is influencer and Youtuber KSI
some of the managers include other online personalities as well as some footballing icons
John Terry and Luis Figo have been lined up as team managers
Jens Lehmann and Robert Pires have also been signed up as coaches
On Saturday Scott was part of the Eastleigh squad that travelled away to Tamworth
he then on Monday made the trip to London where he started for Deportrio
They took on and beat N5 FC - who is managed by Arsenal legends Lehmann
As they scored their fifth goal of Monday's game to go 5-3 up
coach Richards was seen sprinting onto the pitch in celebration
"To be in and around these guys is a bit surreal," Scott said
"You settle in to it though because I'm there to do the business on the pitch
having the people in and around it definitely brings in the attention
"There's the Youtuber and influencers but also some legendary football players that draw another type of crowd
"It's completely different which is why a lot of people like it and a lot really don't
Scott signed for National League side Eastleigh in the summer of 2023
Weymouth and before that had a professional deal with Southampton
Baller League is hosted at the Copperbox arena in London
The Baller League games are set for every Monday until 2 June and are played in London at the Copper Box Arena
The top four teams in the league will then qualify for the play-offs in mid-June
with two semi-finals and a final to decide a champion
Players are paid £400 per match and the teams are made up of recently retired professionals
The process for Baller League began with a draft
But the Eastleigh keeper got involved after his club allowed him to accept an invitation directly from the league
"I was approached by Baller League," He added
"They told me to come along to the draft and see what happens and I said to the club [Eastleigh] that it had been proposed and I was going to go
"I just went in based off my past clubs and didn't expect to get picked
The club were supportive of it and it was a chance for me to get a little bit extra
Eastleigh have been great which I'm very grateful for."
The Spitfires are currently 11th in the National League
six points off the league's play-off positions with six games remaining
They are managed by former Southampton goalkeeper Kelvin Davis who was appointed in February 2024 and signed a new three-year deal a few months later in April

long described as a ‘two-horse race’ between the Liberal Democrats and Conservatives
according to the latest Westminster voting intention data from Electoral Calculus
Polling published on 30 April shows the Conservatives narrowly ahead on 26.9 percent
the Liberal Democrats close behind on 26.0 percent
and Reform UK gaining ground on 23.5 percent
This marks the third consecutive month that the Conservatives have polled slightly ahead of the Liberal Democrats
With three parties now within a few points of each other
Eastleigh parliamentary constituency is increasingly looking like a highly competitive three-way marginal
The Liberal Democrats won the Eastleigh parliamentary seat at the 2024 general election and continue to dominate the local political landscape
holding a clear majority on Eastleigh Borough Council
their hold on the constituency appears to be weakening as Reform UK gains ground and the Conservatives recover
Electoral Calculus’s MRP projection for the Eastleigh seat estimates the Conservatives would win with 32.0 percent of the vote
Reform UK is forecast to overtake the Liberal Democrats
polling 23.6 percent to the Lib Dems’ 22.6 percent
Labour is expected to receive 13.3 percent
The Conservatives are given a 61 percent chance of winning
with Reform UK on 20 percent and the Liberal Democrats on 17 percent
the Conservatives — who won the newly created seat in 2024 — are projected to hold it with 33.6 percent
Reform UK trails by a clear margin on 24.3 percent
with the Liberal Democrats close behind on 22.3 percent
Electoral Calculus now predicts that Reform UK could become the largest party in Parliament
Reform would fall short of a majority by 81 seats but could potentially form a government
have been postponed until May 2026 due to local government reorganisation
The delay is linked to plans for a Mayoral Combined County Authority covering Hampshire
The proposal would transfer powers from central government to a directly elected regional mayor
with the first mayoral election due in 2026
Despite the postponement of the county council elections, two by-elections are scheduled this month for Eastleigh Borough Council. Eastleigh Central ward will vote on Thursday 8 May, followed by Hedge End South ward on Thursday 22 May
Both elections are to fill vacancies on the borough council

sunny morning for event #674 at Eastleigh parkrun
plentiful parking at the nearby leisure centre and a short walk across what we would call a ‘beck’ at my home parkrun in North Yorkshire led to a growing gathering of parkrunners
park walkers and ‘barkrunners’ outside The Blackbird Cafe where toilet facilities were available
After a lively welcome and explanation of the course at the first timer's briefing
including welcoming visitors from across the country and 9 first time ever parkrunners (well done to those people especially
now just to get that second one under your belt and you’ll be hooked!)
a cheerful and humorous RD brief set us up for the event and we were on our way
The easiest way to describe the course is like running the perimeter of a block capital U - first round the outer edge and then a slightly smaller u shape round the inner edge
however I can well imagine that the hill section especially would make for a challenge in more inclement weather and could become quite muddy in prolonged periods of rain
making it worthy of its place in the top 60 most challenging parkrun courses in the country
There were plentiful marshals around the course
as well as providing helpful pointers when faster runners were on their way to enable everyone to share the space without any congestion or hindrance
passing the cafe at the beginning/end of each lap
also added to the atmosphere with family and friends waiting and providing support to everyone as we passed by
including 9 people brand new to parkrun (again
Almost a quarter of those taking part today (22%) achieved a PB
and the highest age grading was an amazing 82.34% - well done to all those people too
All in all this is a really lovely event - welcoming with a friendly
and accessible (certainly at this time of year) to a full range of runners and walkers (of 2 and 4 legged varieties) as well as those with buggies and children
The location is perfect for the obligatory post-parkrun refreshment and
at only 20 minutes from central Southampton
provides the ideal option for those returning from/about to set off to sea who would like to visit a different course than the one in the centre of the city
The course is well organised and signed/marshalled as well as being spacious enough to accommodate all paces and pretty enough to be interesting for the 3 laps
despite the many trees there was actually very little shade in the course
so if visiting in the sunnier months it might be wise to also pack the sun cream
and would encourage others to go and experience this friendly gem of the parkrun community too

Polish folk dancers at the unveiling of the Hiltingbury memorial pic: David Shute
As the country marks the 80th anniversary of Victory in Europe
a public artwork was unveiled in Hiltingbury on Saturday night (3 May) to commemorate the site of the former Polish Dependants’ Hostel Camp
which housed more than a thousand displaced civilians between 1946 and 1957
was launched at The Hilt by the Deputy Mayor of Eastleigh
Art critic and historian Waldemar Januszczak
former Channel 4 editor-in-chief for the arts
which was attended by local residents including Honorary Alderman Judith Grajewski
and members of the Polish community from across the region
the artwork includes three elements: a Polish Silver Birch tree planted on the former camp site
and an illuminated neon sign affixed to the Hiltingbury Sports building
The glowing words — ‘There were people at Hiltingbury who had experienced these events’ — are drawn from Marion Sobieraj’s memoir The Story of the Polish Dependants’ Hostel Hiltingbury
and rendered in the handwriting of a Polish child who learned to read and write at the camp school
Next to the tree stands a freestanding bilingual plaque
the wording of which was provided by members of the Polish community
their families and civilians freed from Soviet gulags and German places of forced labour
To symbolise the uprooting of these people from their homeland artist Janetka Platun sourced and relocated a silver birch from Poland to the site of the camp
handwritten by a surviving camp resident and quoting a line from Marion Sobieraj’s book ‘The Story of Polish Dependants Hostel
Dedicated to all the Polish people who lived here
whose father was a Polish soldier based at Witley Camp after the war
said her approach was shaped by the memories of surviving residents and the philosophical idea of saeculum — the span of time in which an event remains in living memory
“I want to create an exceptional way to honour the Polish people who were uprooted and resettled
and who will be remembered through this public artwork,” she said
Hiltingbury ward councillor James Duguid added: “Many residents
have long wanted to see a tribute to the Hiltingbury Polish Dependants’ Hostel Camp
We are proud that people from across the world
have been able to make their homes in Chandler’s Ford and Eastleigh
The project was funded by developer contributions for public art and supported by grants from Arts Council England
Although the event was not organised as a military commemoration
offering a timely opportunity to reflect on what many of the camp’s residents had experienced — and the contribution Poland made to the Allied victory in Europe
Poland was the first nation to resist Nazi Germany in 1939
Despite being invaded from both west and east
inflicting heavy losses on the German army: 16,000 killed
Thousands of Polish troops escaped to the West and fought in many major engagements — at Dunkirk
Polish intelligence operatives were the first to crack the Enigma cipher and handed a working replica Enigma machine to British intelligence
The Polish Air Force flew 86,527 combat sorties with the RAF
and carried out 2,747 special operations missions to support resistance movements
Polish pilots shot down 130 German aircraft
The Polish Navy covered over 1.2 million sea miles
and sank approximately 100,000 tonnes of enemy shipping
The Polish Merchant Navy operated 58 vessels
carried 4.8 million tonnes of Allied cargo
and lost 15 ships with over 200 lives lost
Polish intelligence ran numerous stations and cells in occupied Europe
they delivered 37,894 reports to British intelligence
More than 22,000 of these were used by British Special Liaison Control
Polish agents first alerted the Allies to the Holocaust and the existence of extermination camps such as Auschwitz
Although Polish veterans who had fought at Monte Cassino
Tobruk and Arnhem were effectively excluded from Britain’s 1946 Victory Parade
the new installation at Hiltingbury goes some way towards recognising that injustice and quietly honours those who found refuge here with their families after the war

Yeovil Town will be looking to rise again as they travel to Eastleigh on Easter Monday
It’s been a tough run of form for Eastleigh without a win in their last eight matches and than coming against relegation-haunted (and now relegated) Ebbsfleet United on home soil back at the start of March
The Spitfires did have a good result on Good Friday with a 1-1 draw away at champions elect Barnet where Paul McCallum
a name synonymous with the top of the National League’s scoring charts
took advantage of a defensive mix-up to put them ahead.
This should serve as a notice to Yeovil that there is still plenty of quality in their hosts’ squad on Easter Monday
Their last three fixtures at the Silverlake Stadium have seen them beaten by Southend United and held to a draw by FC Halifax Town and Hartlepool United
Good Friday’s 1-1 draw at home to play-off candidates Forest Green Rovers
The performance against Forest Green built on a good showing in the previous match at home to Oldham Athletic and manager Mark Cooper will be looking for his side to carry on that form on Easter Monday
Who would have bet on Sonny being a key player a couple of months ago
Having been a regular until the end of November
the 4-0 defeat at York City seemed to be the death knell for his career at Huish Park
The former Watford youngster disappeared with a mystery injury and was reportedly placed on the transfer list and had a trial in the Middle East
come the home match against Tamworth in mid-February
he was back and straight in the starting XI
leaving fans wondering where was he during those dark months
Those last few games I talk about have been the last two in particular
at home to Oldham and then Forest Green on Good Friday
Lo-Everton has scored three in two for the Glovers
showing that he can be a crucial cog in the midfield for Mark Cooper
The winger has been the main man for Eastleigh this season with 12 goals to his name and eight assists
It’s not only been his goal contributions but the fact he has stayed fit almost all season
Shade has got over 3,200 minutes in 40 appearances for the Spitfires
The last four games have been slow for the St Kitts & Nevis international
Eastleigh manager and former Southampton goalkeeper Kelvin Davis spoke about the match following the 1-1 draw at Barnet in Good Friday’s televised match
He said: “The challenge is whether we can recreate that level of focus and determination
and Yeovil are going well and have picked up some strong results in recent times
we are at home and we do want to finish strong and show every individual that puts on the shirt wants to give their best.”
There has only ever been nine games between the Glovers and the Spitfires, with Yeovil having the better head to head record. Yeovil have four wins, Eastleigh have two wins with there being three draws.
The teams last met on Boxing Day, where a 2-2 draw was played out. With Yeovil’s goals coming from Sean McGurk and Morgan Williams.
After the Forest Green match where every other player had some kind of a connection with both clubs, Eastleigh second choice goalkeeper Tommy Scott is the only one for this match.
He started out in the Under-18s set-up at Huish Park before making the move to Southampton’s B team where he made a few appearances before dropping in to non-League where he did a tour of the South Coast with spells at Hamworthy United, Poole Town, Wimborne Town and W*ymouth before signing for Eastleigh in the summer of 2023.
Tyrese Shade's ninth-minute strike set the hosts on their way at Silverlake Stadium before Niall Maher took advantage of an error by Dagenham goalkeeper Nathan Harvey to poke home the second
Ludwig Francillette netted the third after the break to seal the win and move Eastleigh up to 10th before a trip to Boston on Saturday
Dagenham are now eight matches without a win and are just four points clear of the relegation zone
