Spokesperson Captain Marius McCarthy says the arrests were made during a highly successful, integrated, intelligence-driven operation conducted by, among others, Jeffreys Bay SAPS, the Stock Theft Unit, the Humansdorp K9 Unit, the Makhanda Crime Intelligence Unit, and Kouga Municipality law enforcement on Wednesday. of inviting people to join us at Mighty Men 2025 “I’m just following what the Lord told me to do – to walk with the cross.” The group had stopped for Douglas to tend to blisters on his feet They were joined by Boknes resident Victor VIljoen “I passed them earlier and I was really annoyed at how slowly the bakkie was going,” VIljoen said “Then I saw that they were walking with this cross and I just started crying.” He was still tearful as he spoke to Douglas Douglas said they hoped to reach there by Thursday it’s a bonus,” said Douglas who is one of the organisers of the event “Then we get a day’s rest before we have to start preparing for it is an annual gathering of Christian men and boys which has been hosted in the Eastern Cape since 2018 Douglas said the event’s founder Angus Buchan sponsorship machinations she said” of what was an ugly and unnecessary break-up Let’s just be stoked that with the release of the new schedule which is much better than the Shakespear version the best surfers in the world will now find their own portals of discovery in the form of sand-bottomed tunnels behind the rock at Snapper “There’s really nothing like having that perfect canvas in front of you with a huge crowd cheering from the beach just meters away,” said Steph Gilmore who has won here at home a record six times “It’s a true spectacle and has such a rich history and I can’t wait to compete there again next year.” Having had a break from the tour for a year, the 8x World Champion will return for what might be her last competitive lap. The 35-year-old will be going up against the 18-year-old World Champ Caity Simmers, Olympic winner Caroline Marks and (if she qualifies) the winner of last year’s Challenger Series event at Snapper Erin Brooks as the standard of the girls was off the charts,” Gilmore told SURFER “But I was always coming back to see where I’m at and what I can achieve with Snapper and J-Bay back on was a massive bonus.” Jeffries Bay too has had a recent chequered history with the WSL means that the two best right pointbreaks in the world are back where they belong; being dismantled by the world's best surfers That’s more good news for Filipe Toledo took a break from competition this year after securing his World Title in 2023 and has been given a wildcard spot for next year and will be the defending champion having won the last time a CT in 2023 You really can’t fault the timing of these tour veterans and icons whose clean polished and electric surfing is seemingly designed for righthand points could be considered to favour natural footers But let’s not punch a gift horse in the face the return of two of the world’s most perfect righthand pointbreaks and some of the icons of the sport to surf them is overwhelmingly positive news for surfing “It’s about as dreamy as the Dream Tour gets,” concluded Gilmore and I just got to make the cut to surf J-Bay You’ve heard it before: Mikey February has style. Please read our Comment Policy before commenting South Africa (02 December 2024) – Two weeks ago two abducted girls were rescued from a flat in Bellville and sent back home to Pretoria during an emotional session with a social worker who has been assisting the girls and their families in adjusting to their new reality the girls revealed that another two girls were being held in a field in Bellville Carlos Mesquita of the Rehoming Collective NPC received a call from the social worker learning that a second pair of girls that were being held captive; they had given their mothers’ phone numbers to the rescued girls before they were moved from the flat “We decided to go to the approximate area they spoke of but couldn’t see any structures They gave more information and at around 19h00 They were tied to one another with handcuffs at the wrists and at the ankles and then to a heavy-duty tent peg hammered deep into the ground Most of us couldn’t help but get emotional at the sight,” discloses Carlos on the shocking discovery The rescue team managed to free the girls and soon took them to the Dignity House in Maitland who had reported the girls missing in Jeffreys Bay over a month ago and the Rehoming Collective has worked tirelessly to reunite them with their mother involving visits to the Bellville Police Station and the location where the girls were found “We needed the mother to come to Cape Town We didn’t have the funds to buy her a ticket to Cape Town We took a chance and called Intercape promising to pay for a return trip at the Cape Town station before the bus arrived in Cape Town,” says Carlos The mom left Jeffreys Bay on an Intercape bus and soon arrived in Cape Town “This whole situation with children getting kidnapped from near their homes (in this case Jeffreys Bay) and then being taken across borders to be used and abused and sold has become a nightmare and my experience has been that our law enforcement agencies are tending to blame the girls “They were grabbed after school in Jeffreys Bay and ended up in a hidden hokkie in a deserted field in Bellville It’s horrific to listen to their story Be safe and be careful out there,” explains Carols In what is unfolding to be a happy ending to a very traumatic experience Carlos told Good Things Guy that enough money for bus tickets has finally been raised to ensure the mother and her daughters are able to return back home soon funds are being raised for tickets for two community engagement offices to accompany the family to ensure measures are in place to make their trip back home by some of the best waves I’d ever seen or surfed First impressions often shape the way you feel about a place the rest of your life and I hold J-Bay right up there near the top of my list of enjoyable places to visit…and surf My best memory of South Africa was while traveling around the country with my new wife experiencing the incredible safaris through wildlife reserves where I finished second (Cory finished third) at the Mr The ride was deemed a perfect 10—my only one ever in competition—which was made even sweeter due to my wife being on the beach to share the joy with me I’ve always bored easily with waves that break as almost perfect carbon copies of one another—even Macaronis gets old after a few repetitive sessions The point at J-Bay must be over a mile long with Supers as the crown jewel—similar to the Speedies section of G-Land (another of my favorite waves) To win here you need a very well-rounded approach because during the course of an event (or even a single day) the surf can go from epic to challenging take the top spot with their nearly unmatched abilities in waves offering such limitless opportunity And that’s why, if at all possible, you must get as many of those 5 (R.I.P. forever A.I.) surfers on your Fantasy Surfer team don’t forget about the bubble boys and cellar dwellers either With only one more Prime and three more World Tour events remaining they have a great opportunity to gain points and knock down all those Prime competitors currently on the cusp of WT qualification Who’s coming in hot in need of an epic performance/result First and foremost is Bobby Martinez: This ULTRA HOT and SPICY Mexican is long overdue to come out of his slump—for Bobby that means a return to winning events if the conditions get solid (evening the playing field for goofies) a victory here is very possible as he is the best backside surfer (out on the face) bar none Kai Otton is always a determined individual and lately he has been surfing with a spark and desperation like I haven’t seen from him before Some of his Ballito rides were astonishing The Brazilians have been generally bulldozing the competition this year Yet one of their most talented hasn’t been receiving the results Raoni Monteiro went crazy in Hawaii on the right walls of Haleiwa and Sunset With those performances and a few of his previous J-Bay rides to draw from Raoni is just a few waves and a good rhythm away from exploding all over the expansive lineup Pat Gudauskas: ‘‘The King of Froth” is up to his ears in the white foamy mess right now Winning at Ballito in massive pits with his friends and family there most likely has him on the verge of an over-froth brother Dane is there and brought plenty of extra in case he’s running low by the time J-Bay begins on the 15th Ever seen the floats Pat hangs out when the opportunity presents itself Dane Reynolds: He was pretty rusty a month ago and now he may be surfing better than before his mind is rested from the drain of constant travel and competition since his early teens and the pressure to be World Champ or Jordy’s sparring partner is long gone We now just look forward to any opportunity to watch him perform his magic Remember Parko’s return from injury at Haleiwa Now think of Dane in a similar position.(Dane has withdrawn from the event) Julian Wilson: Behind the perfect picture is a determined I get the feeling from watching him since his success during the Triple Crown last winter that Julian has his eyes firmly set on winning events while battling for the World Title over the years to come He has the skills to make that happen as well Sean Holmes: His surfing at Ballito was near perfection and that was before he ever even did a turn in his conditions—solid rights with a combo of pit and turn sections—has no superiors Those are 13 lucky surfers I’ve highlighted for a possible FS team during J-Bay The event waiting period doesn’t begin until the 15th giving a few more days for everyone to watch the swell charts and adjust teams accordingly For instance: Bombing surf means it’s time to grab Slater no matter what while small and on the bricks (the uneven rock/reef the wave breaks over until the swell gets solid) you had better put Taj on your team New Water Quality Regulations in New York Won’t Necessarily Make Water Any Cleaner gives 3x world champ (flawed) guidance before fateful Two minutes into the heat, Fanning was knocked off his board by a large great white shark What ensued was around 30 seconds of pure terror And it was unfolding right there on live TV Fanning came out of the incident miraculously unscathed But that moment will forever live in infamy in the minds of surfers Fanning received some advice from someone who knows from first-hand experience about shark attacks in South Africa…”nothing to worry about!” That was from Shannon Ainslie, a surfer who survived being attacked by not one, but two, great white sharks while surfing Nahoon Reef in East London Ainslie gave him some (admittedly faulty) advice and Mick Fanning,” Ainslie explains in the video above and Mick goes and asks me about my shark attack I tell him about my double shark attack at Nahoon Reef in East London he goes on to ask me about sharks in J-Bay and there I am feeling bad about what I said.” Ever wish you could take back something you said Supertubes The famed Super's is ranked as one of the 10 best waves in the world which occur mainly in the winter months of May to August Supers provides rides of up to half a kilometer in length It's an easy takeoff into these absolutely perfect rights speeding up until you get to the inside section in front of the car park known as Impossibles This is where the brave and fearless pull into spectacular tubes Supers breaks very close to mussel-covered rocks Not only for warmth but also as protection against the razor sharp mussels (you can paddle out in the chan- nel and come in at the Gulley to bypass the sharp mussels) Works best on a full S swell normally pushed in by passing cold fronts Ask locals about location of the paddling channel if you're not sure Note: the WCT surf contest has moved to Boneyards and the waves have been excellent in recent years The Surf Best time to plan a trip to J-Bay is during the winter months of May to Sept This is when the passing cold fronts push in swell regularly from the south The prevailing winds are then offshore from the W to SW (during this time of the year also has the dreaded devil wind the NW wind that blows up the point and ruffles the waves but it usually blows itself out within an hour or two of sunrise) However this is not the rule as this area has been known to have excellent waves of fair size in the middle of summer Most of the winter swells last two to four days except for the times when fronts stack up one after the other and swell can last for up to two weeks but are not as powerful as would be expected During spring the winds tend to go more around to the SW and S direction Generally a fair time for surfing but excellent for boardsailing The percentage of calm days is lower than ten percent Average winds of 20-35 knots prevail from the SE to E and swell frequency is erratic Seal Point still produces fair waves regularly Winds are mainly from the SW to SE and average wind speed is 15 knots The Kromme River Lagoon for flatwater sailors and the surrounding beaches are all packed with windsurfers The autumn months of April to June are particularly good for surf on all the beachbreaks and at times at the points Average daytime air temps are in the lower 70s and water temp cools to around 65F Prevailing winds in autumn are NW to SW in this region from 15-20 knots The high incidence of coastal lows that causes the warm offshore Berg winds make this a good time for surfing More Info:Spot on Spot – A Revisionist Glance at Historic Surfing Locales: J Bay
