Some residents from different parts of Mabopane north of Pretoria have called on the Tshwane Municipality to urgently intervene and address sewage spillages
The municipality has been blamed for rarely attending to these problems
with residents saying solutions are always temporary
These residents say this issue has affected their health
I took the whole treatment for six months and now I am fine but because of this drainage spillage it’s like it is going to start again
Sewer has damaged infrastructure in our area
Our toilet is spitting out sewerage so we always go to our neighbours to relieve ourselves.”

JOHANNESBURG - Four people died following a collision between a bus and a truck on the N1 near Mabopane.
The bus was carrying 117 passengers, while the diesel truck had one occupant.Both vehicles caught fire.
The City of Tshwane said the four passengers died on the scene while nine other people were injured, one critically.
The injured patients are being treated at the nearby Bela-Bela Hospital and Jubilee District Hospital.
The cause of the collision has not yet been determined.

26 May 2022: Three armed thieves attacked and robbed Eskom technicians while they were executing their duties in Mabopane Block E on Tuesday
Two other attacks on Eskom technicians took place in Mabopane and Soweto over the past three days
Two technicians were attacked by the three armed perpetrators while they were inspecting meter boxes in Mabopane Block E
The perpetrators demanded their wallets and cell phones and took off in a vehicle without a registration number
a technician was also robbed of a cell phone and money at a substation
another technician was stabbed while he and his colleagues were installing meters in Nomzamo
who was stabbed in the face and chest was treated at a medical facility and is recovering at home
“We condemn such acts of violence against our employees in Gauteng where they are often assaulted
intimidated and placed in extreme situations such as being held hostage by some community members
This display of aggression and violence by communities often leads to employees suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder
It also results in delays in repair work and project completion
further extending the period that residents spend without electricity”
Eskom urges all those who may be aware of any form of criminal acts to report them by calling the Eskom Crime Line on 0800 112 722 or the South African Police Services (SAPS)
“We have reported all these incidents to the SAPS and we will co-operate with the police to assist with the investigations”

a total of 1 721 people were murdered in the province during the third quarter of 2022
which was an increase of 151 compared to the previous year
