Ten people have died in separate fire incidents in the Eastern Cape
while more than 50 shacks have been burnt in the Nompumelelo informal settlement in East London
Police spokesperson Priscilla Naidu says members of two families died when their shacks caught fire in Ndevana and Algoa Park
a woman and her three children died in the early hours of Friday when their home burned down in Tshabo in Ndevana
She says that six other people died in Algoa Park
a family of six also died when their shack in Jack Street in Missionvale in Algoa Park in Gqeberha burned to the ground
It is alleged that two adults and four children died in the blaze
It is suspected that the cause may have been as a result of illegal electricity connection however the exact cause will be determined by the fire department.”
A CRIME Intelligence driven operation conducted with the King William’s Town Tracing Team and Ndevana police members have arrested three suspects aged between 28 and 56 on attempted murder and drug dealing charges
Police spokesman Captain Siphokazi Mawisa said police had embarked on the operation as part of Operation Fiela focusing at addressing the root causes of crime and reclaiming the space occupied by criminals
“Members followed up the information they received about a house that sells drugs at Oak Street in King William’s Town.”
On arrival police arrested 36-year-old male for being in possession of two (2) mandrax tablets
half and three quarters of mandrax tablets and recovered one and a half envelope full of dagga
Ndevana and arrested a 56-year-old female with 67 mandrax tablets and 10 bompies of dagga
The street value for drugs is estimated at R6 000
Police also arrested a 28-year-old male for attempted murder after he allegedly shot a police member at Ginsberg in January 2018
The suspects are due to appear at Zwelitsha and King William’s Town Magistrate Courts on Monday

Ramaphosa will also unveil the newly upgraded Cecilia Makiwane Hospital in Mdantsane Township
Seale said the centre is a community initiative which started operations in 1999 with the help of the late SABC TV presenter
He said the centres main focus is on HIV and Aids orphans and to trace defaulters around the area
"The centre is also working with care givers of people who are on Antiretroviral Therapy and Tuberculosis treatment
The facility has also been commissioned by the Department of Health to trace treatment defaulters in the area," Seale said
defaulters are channelled back into the health care system
The centre has since identified 247 defaulters
leading to a reduction in the Eastern Cape's TB and HIV treatment defaulter rate," he added
Seale said that Mbuli will be honoured for the contribution he made as a fundraiser to the operations and programmes of the centre
"The unveiling of the centre will coincide with the unveiling of the R1.6 billion refurbished Cecilia Makiwane Hospital in Mdantsane Township," Seale said
"The Deputy President will be supported by Eastern Cape Premier Mr Phumulo Masaulle
