Zikhali, who has been given six yellow cards so far this season, was handed another one just before the end of the first half.
In the second half, the team from KwaZulu-Natal seemed to play with more confidence. Just five minutes after play resumed, Zikhali netted a beautiful goal to put his team in the lead.
But the young midfielder was forced off the field after receiving another yellow card following a tackle on Thami Masiya of TS Galaxy.
The hosts tried their best to find the back of the net, but the Ugandan shot stopper, Salim Magoola was too good.
Richards Bay won the clash 1-nil, much to the delight of their coaching team.
TS Galaxy is now in fifth place with 34 points from 27 games played.
Richards Bay are 11th, with 29 points from 26 games.
PSL action continued on Sunday, May 4, as the 2024/25 season nears conclusion with a lot to play for.
Richards Bay bounced back to winning ways in the Betway Premiership with a 1-0 victory over TS Galaxy at the Lucas Moripe Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
The win elevated the Natal Rich Boys to the 11th spot in the league standings - six points clear of the relegation zone. Richards Bay will host Golden Arrows in their penultimate match of the season on 17 May.
The Rockets, on the other hand, remained fifth in the standings after recording their ninth defeat of the campaign. Galaxy will wrap their league campaign with a match against Orlando Pirates in Soweto on 17 May.
The Rockets did most of the attacking in the opening exchanges, but they couldn't keep their attempts on target as Kamogelo Sebelebele's header went wide in the third minute, before Puso Dithejane's effort missed the right post in the 10th minute.
Salim Magoola was called into action a minute before halftime, and the Natal Rich Boys' goalkeeper produced a low diving save to stop Dithejane's dangerous shot-come-cross. The score was 0-0 at the interval in South Africa's administrative capital, Pretoria.
Richards Bay came back as an improved side, and they took a 1-0 lead through Lindokuhle Zikhale in the 51st minute. However, the 20-year-old attacker went from hero to villain as he was sent off in the 54th minute, with the Natal Rich Boys were reduced to 10 players.
Galaxy coach Adnan Beganovic reacted by introducing the third-highest goalscorer in the league, Dzenan Zajmovic, who is on eight goals, in the 58th minute. However, Richards Bay held on to their slender lead and they emerged as 1-0 winners over Galaxy.
TS Galaxy: Tape, Munyai, Mahlangu, Ndamane, Letsoenyo (Masiya 45'), Mgaga (Sovisc 59'), Maduna (Mvelase 69'), Dolly, Sebelebele, Dithejane (Dithejane 68'), Letsoalo (Zajmovic 58')

Miguel Cardoso and his players must now switch focus to domestic action as they currently sit top of the table
nine points ahead of second-place Orlando Pirates
The draw against Al Ahly extended Sundowns' winless run to four matches in all competitions

The KwaZulu-Natal outfit currently sit three points above the relegation zone heading into this evening's clash
MTE will take its travelling expo philosophy to Richards Bay and Phalaborwa in June 2025
Mining and Technical Exhibitions (MTE) will host its Richards Bay Mining & Industrial Expo on 5 June at John Ross College and its Phalaborwa Mining & Industrial Exhibition at Laerskool Phalaborwa Noord (Rooi Skool) on 19 June this year
high impact tradeshows are popular annual events
custom-built for surrounding industrial operations in the KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) and Limpopo provinces of South Africa respectively
Although both of these expos work off the same MTE principles of a highly focussed
MTE’s agile business concept enables the company to customise its expos to the market prevalent in any area
The travelling exhibition company targets its most varied audience anually in Richards Bay where the surrounding mining industry and smelters
the agricultural sector and sugar milling in Empangeni in particular
the Richards Bay harbour and coal terminal (RBCT) and the paper and pulp sector
create a hive of industrial activity in constant need of innovative solutions for the ever-evolving environment
“All of these operations are our target market at this expo,” says Andrew Macnamara
“The common ground is ‘moving parts’ and industrial process with efficiencies and safety top of mind.”
He adds that in his customary interactions with the market leading up to the expo to enable his team to target relevant suppliers to exhibit at the show
RBCT noted due to increased business that it was looking at new equipment solutions to improve efficiencies
Other operations in the area also pointed to a more upbeat economic mood
This positive swing in the local industry is backed by SARS data which indicates that nearly 95% of South Africa’s coal export volumes (65-70 million tonnes in 2024) are handled through RBCT
With enhanced Transnet performance last year
coal railed to the privately owned and operated RBCT improved to around 52 million tonnes in 2024 – although still below the levels of more than 70 million tonnes Transnet railed annually to the company between 2017 and 2020
this is a positive improvement which significantly affects the entire surrounding industry.1
Minerals Council South Africa noted recently that coal companies continue to work closely with Transnet to secure the 600km rail line from the coal fields to Richards Bay
aiming to mitigate the impact of cable theft and vandalism that act as one of the current constraints to exports
we anticipate an uptick in most of the industries we serve at the Richards Bay tradeshow,” Andrew points out
MTE will move into Limpopo after its visit to KZN to focus on the copper/vermiculite/magnetite/phosphate industry in the area which is embodied in two well-known operations near the town of Phalaborwa – Palabora Copper (Pty) Ltd
a subsidiary of Palabora Mining Company (PMC)
“Developments such as the PMC Lift ll project which was approved to extend PMC LOM
bring MTE and its valued exhibitors to the area each year to showcase solutions-driven innovation to the mining professionals in the area,” concludes Andrew

South Africa's Betway Premiership ended weekend action on a subdued note with Richards Bay winning at TS Galaxy by a 1-0 score
Richards Bay midfielder Lindokuhle Zikhali had an eventful day
The 20-year-old midfielder provided the only goal of the match for the Natal Rich Boyz early in the second half before receiving his marching orders for a second yellow card shortly after

Is KwaZulu-Natal poised for transformative growth in the energy and industrialisation sectors
and Richards Bay playing pivotal roles in this evolution
This question arises following the Budget Speech for the 2025/2026 financial year
MEC for the Department of Economic Development
“As Richards Bay has been designated to be South Africa’s Energy Hub – a move that positions KwaZulu-Natal at the centre of the country’s energy future
we are doing everything in our power to accelerate and consolidate its development
With peak demand already exceeding 6,700MW
the need for local generation and alternative sources of energy is urgent and well-established,” said MEC Zondi
in collaboration with the Richards Bay Industrial Development Zone
will convene energy stakeholders to cement KwaZulu-Natal’s leadership in the national energy transition
MEC Zondi highlighted the Colenso Power Project
a privately funded yet catalytic investment facilitated by the Department
this project features a hybrid base-load power facility integrating clean fuels
establishing a national-scale anchor for the uThukela District
“We are supporting the revitalisation of AMSA
which remains a key anchor in the province’s steel manufacturing value chain and a catalyst for supplier development and industrial jobs,” said the MEC
AMSA has been a cornerstone of Newcastle’s economy
“It is in this context that we welcome the recent announcement by the Minister of Trade
confirming that national government is developing a support plan to stabilise and reposition AMSA’s Newcastle operations,” explained Zondi
the provincial government is prepared to collaborate in this endeavour
the MEC noted that his department is working to transform the former Karbochem site into a modern industrial park
and logistics infrastructure—creating new energy and manufacturing opportunities for the northern region
“KwaZulu-Natal remains a national leader in automotive manufacturing
anchored by major investors such as Toyota South Africa
Toyota continues to drive innovation and resilience in our manufacturing base
including its investment in hybrid vehicle production
Through partnerships with the private sector and support from our Department
we are working to strengthen the full automotive value chain
from logistics to skills development and black industrialist participation,” he noted
KwaZulu-Natal is forging a path toward growth in its energy and industrial sectors
with Newcastle playing a significant but not central role alongside other key regions like Richards Bay and Colenso
including Richards Bay’s designation as South Africa’s Energy Hub and the Colenso Power Project’s focus on sustainable energy
These initiatives will directly benefit Newcastle’s communities by providing employment opportunities and supporting small businesses
further strengthens this momentum by promoting skills development and inclusive partnerships that empower local residents
The upcoming KZN Energy Indaba will foster collaboration to ensure these projects align with national goals
benefiting KwaZulu-Natal as a whole.
by creating thousands of jobs and enhancing infrastructure
these developments will improve living standards across communities and position the province as a leader in South Africa’s industrial and energy landscape
delivering long-term economic and social benefits

with "Yes" at 2.40 on Paripesa and "No" at 1.54 on Melbet
Given the recent form and head-to-head statistics
our primary betting tip is a home win for TS Galaxy
TS Galaxy's recent performances have seen them secure a mixed bag of results
and two defeats in their last five matches across all competitions
Their recent outing ended in a 1-1 draw against Sekhukhune United
a match that showcased their resilience but also highlighted some defensive frailties
TS Galaxy has scored 6 goals while conceding 7
demonstrating a slight imbalance in their defensive and attacking play

with a goal tally of 29 scored and 28 conceded
The team's home record reflects a solid performance
Under the guidance of manager Adnan Beganović

which could prove crucial against Richards Bay FC
Richards Bay FC finds itself in a precarious position
with only two wins in their last five matches
The latest result was a heavy 0-3 loss against Mamelodi Sundowns
exposing significant weaknesses in their defensive line
Richards Bay has scored just 16 goals while conceding 26 this season
Richards Bay's away record has been particularly alarming
and an alarming nine defeats in matches played away from home
This poor form away from home has contributed to their low league standing
The team has struggled to convert chances into goals
and their tactical approach under manager Papi Zothwane has often been criticized for lacking creativity and offensive dynamism
The absence of a consistent scoring threat has hampered their ability to secure points
the head-to-head record between TS Galaxy and Richards Bay FC has been quite competitive

TS Galaxy will be optimistic about reversing this trend
Given the current form and statistical analysis, the best betting tip for this match is a home win for TS Galaxy. The odds available from various bookmakers support this prediction
and considering the team's home advantage and Richards Bay's away struggles
with TS Galaxy's recent form indicating a potential for defensive lapses

Mamelodi-Sundowns
Result: Mamelodi Sundowns 2-0 Richards Bay FC
Young defender Malibongwe Prince Khoza returned to the Sundowns line-up while veteran shot-stopper came in for Ronwen Williams following the 1-1 draw with Al Ahly in Cairo last Friday
The Brazilians got off to the perfect start as Arthur Sales bagged his fifth league goal of the season by getting on the end Teboho Mokoena's pass and firing past goalkeeper Ian Otieno after eight minutes
Otieno was definitely the busier of the two goalkeepers in the first half
with the Richards Bay shot-stopper pulling off a couple more saves to deny both Tashreeq Matthews and Mokoena at the midway point of the half
Miguel Cardoso's charges did get a second goal on 28 minutes as Iqraam Rayners moved into double figures in the league by turning home a cross from Matthews to give the home side a two-goal cushion
Sundowns were in complete control in the first half and did not allow the men from KwaZulu-Natal to get any joy on the ball
as Onyango barely had a save to make throughout the opening 45 minutes
Sundowns carried that dominance into the second period and bagged a third goal three minutes in as Rayners turned provider to pick out the run of Marcelo Allende
who skipped past one challenge before firing home from a tight angle
Cardoso took the opportunity to rest some players ahead of Saturday's clash against Cape Town City
with Allende and Mokoena making way for Jayden Adams and Sphelele Adams in the midfield just before the hour mark
The Natal Rich Boyz were unable to provide any real threat to the Sundowns defence in the second half
which would have made Cardoso happy as his side were able to see out the clash and claim a clean sheet
The win sees Sundowns move 12 points clear at the top of the table
The Brazilians are keen on preserving top spot when they host the Natal Rich Boyz at Loftus Versfeld on Wednesday
After two weeks focusing on their Caf Champions League campaign
Mamelodi Sundowns turn to the Premier Soccer League campaign and host Richards Bay on Wednesday
The Brazilians lead the standings with nine points more than second-placed Orlando Pirates

YOU ARE HERE > Home > News > Nedbank Cup Preview: Richards Bay
Orlando Pirates kick off their Nedbank Cup title defence with a trip to Durban where they will be going toe-to-toe with Richards Bay
King Zwelithini Stadium hosts this crucial knockout fixture which gets underway on Sunday
Following a recent disruption to their schedule
it’s a return to domestic cup football for the Soweto Giants as they begin their venture to extend their reign as champions in the illustrious competition
They recently achieved a similar feat in the MTN8 where they bagged a third straight title
First up on their sights is a side that promises to provide a stiff challenge in what is one of a few all-Premiership match-ups in the opening round
Knockout football has been a consistent feature for the Bucs throughout the season
They began their campaign with a successful MTN8 run which was quickly followed by involvement in the CAF Champions League preliminary rounds
They have recently advanced past the group stage through to the quarter-finals of the latter
with their cup record still only blemished by an early exit from the Carling Knockout
The game against the Natal Rich Boyz arrives after a run of consecutive victories against CR Belouizdad of Algeria and Egyptian giants Al Ahly
while boasting four wins in their last five matches across competitions
Their only defeat in this sequence was in their most recent domestic outing
which was a league game away to Cape Town City which finished 1-0 in favour of the hosts
In attempting to further cement their status as South Africa’s cup kings
Pirates cannot afford a similar slip-up against the men from KwaZulu-Natal who have had a brief but promising taste of cup football so far this season
They made it past the first two rounds of the Carling Knockout – going past Sekhukhune United and Cape Town City – before exiting in the semifinals
While they have displayed glimpses of their ability to prevail in the pressure situations associated with cup football
similar success in the league has eluded them
They have so far amassed just two wins in 14 Premiership fixtures
They have failed to get over the line in four of their five most recent games
falling on the losing side three times while winning once and collecting a single draw
With somewhat of a clean slate presented by their clash against the Buccaneers
the main item on their agenda will be to spark their season back to life with a famous victory
will go in determined to continue their dominance in the competition having played an impressive 10 matches since their last Nedbank Cup defeat
Bucs coach José Riveiro will be forced to do a bit of shuffling at the back
due to the unavailability of defender Nkosinathi Sibisi
The 29-year-old is suspended for the fixture after picking up his fourth yellow card for the season in Cape Town
Pirates will also be without Thabiso Monyane who is recovering from a hamstring injury picked up in the same fixture
A few more players are on the mend however
with Olisa Ndah and Goodman Mosele among those primed for a return in the near future
Sipho Chaine (Orlando Pirates): Key to Pirates’ excellent start to the season has been their defence
and the man between the sticks has been an important component in that regard
Chaine has kept six clean sheets in the league so far and 13 in all competitions
while his ball-playing ability adds an extra dimension to the team
Yanela Mbuthuma (Richards Bay): The young centre-forward continues to grow into a key player for the Rich Boyz
effortlessly adapting to his role as the main man upfront
Half the goals scored by the hosts in all competitions this season have come off Mbuthuma’s boot while he also has an assist to his name
While recent form suggests a favourable match-up for the Buccaneers
they will be fully aware that there are never any guarantees in knockout football
Their hosts have showcased that at Moses Mabhida Stadium in the not-so-distant past when they edged past them on penalties during the second round of the 2023 Carling Knockout – a fixture that remains the only cup meeting between the two sides so far
Riveiro’s men have had a slight upper hand in games against the KZN outfit as they boast wins in three of the six league games played between the two
The most recent of these was during the earlier part of the ongoing season
where Pirates only needed a solitary strike from Evidence Makgopa to collect all three points at King Zwelithini
their fixtures have not produced a flurry of goals with only five scored in regulation time throughout the seven encounters played to date
It is the Soweto Giants who lead comfortably in this regard as they account for four of these
while the Natal Rich Boyz only managed to find the net in their shock 1-0 win at Orlando Stadium towards the end of the 2023/24 league campaign
The game kicks off at 15:00 and will be televised live on SuperSport PSL
You can also follow the action by keeping an eye on live updates posted across Orlando Pirates social media channels

Richards Bay will play host to fellow strugglers Cape Town City at the King Goodwill Zwelithini Stadium in the Betway Premiership match on Friday
The Natal Rich Boys' struggles in the league continued when they suffered a 1-0 defeat to AmaZulu FC away on 4 April and they are winless in their last two matches
Richards Bay are placed 13th in the Betway Premiership standings - a point above the relegation zone and they will be desperate for a win over City
which would see the KwaZulu-Natal side move further away from the bottom two spots
City extended their winless run to 11 matches in the league when they succumbed to a 2-1 defeat to Sekhukhune United at home on 6 April and it was their second defeat in their last three games
The Citizens are placed 14th in the Betway Premiership standings - a point above the relegation zone and the Mother City side will also be keen to move further away from the bottom two spots with a win over Richards Bay
Richards Bay and Cape Town City have no suspension concerns coming into this encounter and they are yet to report injuries in their camp
“We knew approaching the game about where we stand in the relegation zone and when you look at that it looks like we take two steps forward and four steps back
our players have done well," Zothwane said
"We've played seven games and remained unbeaten
we're one of the top three teams on form and sometimes things like these happen like AmaZulu coming from three losses and they win the match
We can take positives from the game and build on but as a coach
I'm happy to see players progressing and others getting opportunities.”
“We need to step up physically and mentally because the confidence is gone," Peral said
"But I don't think the guys in the last two games showed a lack of will to win
when you have not won games for this long and the opposition had 10 good minutes
The last two games were better and confidence was better.”

Richards Bay had a decent opportunity to break the deadlock in the 44th minute after Gumede had set up Ntlonelo Bomelo
whose low shot was well-saved by goalkeeper Darren Keet and the score was 0-0 at the interval
The Citizens came back as an improved side after the restart
and they were finally able to seriously test keeper Ian Otieno in the 73rd minute
Jaedin Rhodes unleashed an attempt which was well saved by the Kenya international
However, eventual Man of the Match Gumede made no mistake at the other end in the 79th minute.
Substitute Wandile Ngema set up Gumede, who made no mistake as the winger fired past Keet to seal Richards Bay's 1-0 victory over City.

Kaizer Chiefs suffered a 2-0 defeat to Richards Bay FC in Betway Premiership action on Sunday afternoon.Chiefs made two changes from the midweek draw with Cape Town City in Sibongiseni Mthethwa for Nkosingiphile Ngcobo and sacrificed Gaston Sirino for Pule Mmodi.Following a pacey start
the Amakhosi could've gone ahead through the head of Ashley Du Preez from a cross by Glody Lilepo but Salim Magoola saved.Mmodi looked to find joy wide of the six-yard box and pulled goal-wards from a tight angle
but in the end slammed across the face of the far corner. The Natal Rich Boys provided little in the way of chances
but looked promising sitting deep and playing on the counter-attack.Chiefs continued finding moments towards the close of the first half
as Dillon Solomons nodded wide of the near post after attacking a pin-point corner. The host showed more purpose after halftime and were ahead when Fezile Gcaba pounced on a delivery from Justice Figareido to head in the far corner.Figareido came close to extending the lead with a looping header in the box from a corner
but he found the side-netting.Chiefs made a double substitution ten minutes in the resumption and saw Sirino on for Mmodi before Edson Castillo stepped in for Mthethwa. The Amakhosi' quest to a comeback became difficult in the remaining 20 minutes after Yanela Mbuthuma peeled off a rebound from the post and finished from close-range for his fourth league goal of the season.Chiefs continued looking for a way back
but the Natal Rich Boys blocked entry and defended in numbers to secure maximum points to go 11th on the table
