Court on Tuesday.   The 85-year-old is accused of multiple counts of sexual and physical abuse of young boys in South Africa and the United Kingdom (UK).   One of his alleged victims, a former pupil at Rondebosch Boys’ Prep School, accuses him of abusing him in the 1980s.   Wares was arrested in 2019 on several sexual assault charges and remains out on bail.   In September, a second State witness was expected to take the stand, but her testimony was postponed after the presiding magistrate called in sick.   Wares is also facing extradition to the UK, where he will face similar charges.   It is not yet clear whether he will appeal a Western Cape High Court ruling granting his extradition to Scotland.   The State has indicated that it will oppose any appeal or review brought by Wares’s lawyers.   Sections and the greater Johannesburg area will be abuzz on the eve of the 21st annual King Edward VII Easter Rugby Festival Follow all the action live on SuperSport Schools – In the past CAPE TOWN - Rondebosch East residents are at loggerheads with the City of Cape Town over plans to release land in the area for social housing. The city said a public participation process is underway for the proposed sale of seven hectares of land on the corner of Kromboom Road and Seventh Avenue. Mayco member for Human Settlements Carl Pophaim said the land has a potential yield of 800 residential units, affordable housing, open market housing, public open space, and retail opportunities. Rondebosch East Residents Association chairperson Rashad Davids said residents' concerns include the land being a critical biodiversity area and traffic congestion. "We then want to engage in terms of our concern regarding one, that Seventh Avenue is regarded as a critical biodiversity area. So, it's a preserved piece of land." Davids said the 800 residential units will also bring additional cars and traffic into the area. "If you look at 800 units on Seventh Avenue, it translates to one-and-a-half cars per family. That translates into an additional 1,200 cars that must access Kromboom Road." The city said the public participation process will see officials engaging with the community about the proposed sale of the land. of their victories have stemmed from great teamwork He has been an integral cog for ‘Bosch helping them to some famous wins while scoring some cracking goals along the way He is the epitome of big-match temperament (BMT) and has a unique skill set that elevates him from the rest of the pack He took up the sport at an early age and water polo runs through his veins “My brothers [Ben and Jay] both played water polo and I started the sport just after them,” Reiback told SuperSport Schools Plus and I went to the pool with them and started shooting I was mentored by coach Kwakhona Ngwanya from Grades 3-7 and he helped me along my water polo journey.” There was a sense of expectation riding on Reiback when he entered high school in 2023 he enjoyed a fantastic welcome to high school water polo as a member of an incredibly talented u14A team Reiback and his teammates were outstanding and dominant They defeated every team in the Western Cape and won the vast majority of tournaments they contested He was in prolific form and later that year was rewarded I didn’t have the intention of making the first team at the end of the year; it wasn’t a usual thing at our school,” Reiback admitted “We had a great season that year with the team We practically won everything and played great polo as a unit got a message from our head of polo at the time and he said I was invited to trial for the St Stithians College Stayers Tournament following in the footsteps of his brothers “I was very happy and proud and emotional at the time especially after watching my brothers play for the team but Coach Jared sat with me and calmed me down Reiback’s role in the team is straightforward and that’s to create and score goals The countless opportunities to fire the ball into the back of the net wouldn’t be available “I always try and stay humble because Coach Jared tells us to reset after each match or tournament but I’m definitely not the be-all-and-end-all of the team We have some exceptional players that also deserve as much credit “If you look at a guy like Jack Robinson he acts as a role model for me because we’ve played together for a long time I always have one-on-ones with him to look at how we can get better and help the team as a whole “I also have two lefties on the right with me and I don’t think I’d be as good of a water player if they didn’t push me.” and financial support of Reiback’s parents has also steered his evolving career on an upward trajectory have had to dig deep financially to get him to provincial and international tournaments Just last year, Reiback represented Western Province u15A at the Schools Water Polo South Africa Inter-Provincial tournament he was part of the SA u16 side that played in the World Aquatics Men’s Championships in Malta “I really can’t thank my parents enough They’ve done wonderful things for me,” Reiback said even with the SA tour where we knew it would be tough [financially] but they still sent me to give me the best opportunity “I know there’s still more to come but I’m grateful for their 100 percent backing.” he pulls on his rugby boots and plays flyhalf He is gunning to make the u16A rugby team at of Kromboom Road and Seventh Avenue A City plan for a housing project on the corner of Kromboom Road and Seventh Avenue in Rondebosch East has drawn public outrage The City says it will apply to rezone seven hectares of municipal plots and sell them off to a developer to build 800 “residential units” these will be in a combination of duplexes three-to-four-storey buildings and five-to-10-storey tower blocks with 500 of the 800 units allocated for social housing and the rest for the open market The development would include retail opportunities adding that a traffic-impact study was being finalised and the proposal was expected to go out for public comment in September or October Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis hailed the proposed development as part of the City’s push to release land to prioritise affordable housing we have already released sites with a yield of over 4 200 affordable housing units including in Cape Town’s inner city and other well-located economic nodes,” he said steering committee chairperson of the Civic Association of Rondebosch East said such a development would likely aggravate traffic congestion as there were more than two schools in the area “The residents are very much concerned about the potential negative effect the development of 800 residential units plus commercial trade will have on the area in view of congestion from the Lansdowne Rondebosch Neighbourhood Watch but they had doubts about whether the corner of Kromboom Road and Seventh Avenue was the best place for it “If there are 800 units and each unit perhaps consists of a family of four it can be over 3000 people moving to the area,” he said Traffic congestion was already bad along the routes to schools between Imam Haron Road and Kromboom Road “The City wants to overcrowd a densely populated area There are not many available job opportunities no new places of business so people need to take transport to leave the area for work.” who has lived in the area for more than 30 years said: “Is the mayor able to determine how traffic is going to flow in this already congested area “Why can’t the City rather invest in a community centre or sporting facilities to upgrade the area for the people.” Residents are already unhappy about the City’s plan to auction off a 10-football-pitch-size parcel of public land on the corner of Smuts Road and Windsor Road in Lansdowne (“Lansdowne low-cost housing plan hits flak,” Southern Suburbs Tatler The City of Cape Town has greenlit land release for a mixed-use development in Rondebosch East The
