The route starts at the DP de Villiers Stadium in Sasolburg and runs past the Sasol One factory

The 42,2km and 21,1km races will start at 06:00 in front of the DP de Villiers Stadium in Sasolburg
The prize giving will take place at 10:00 inside the stadium
The open male and female winners of the 42,2km will receive R2 500; the 21,1km first prizes are R1 500 and the 10km
Only on-line pre-entries are available for the 42,2; the 21,1 and the 10km races via www.entryninja.com

The cost of the races is R280 for the 42,2km marathon
R180 for the 21,1km half marathon and R100 for the 10km race
Runners should note that temporary licences must be bought on-line with entries at R70

Those interested in competing in the fun run can register online
but late entries will also be accepted prior to the race on the day
Runners should be at least 20 years old to participate in the marathon
16 years for the half marathon and 14 years for the 10km race
passport or birth certificate for runners 18 years and younger
as well as their banking details to the event
All athletes who finish the race for which they entered within the respective cut-off times
Athletes will have 6 hours to complete the 42,2km; 3 hours for the 21,1km; 2 hours for the 10km and 1 hour to finish the fun run

road users are advised that the Sasol Marathon will be run through the streets of Sasolburg
Road users must please adhere to the marshals and traffic officials from the Metsimaholo Local Municipality who will be on duty to direct athletes and minimise impact on motorists

The school from the Northern Free State began their festival with a nail-biting 2-1 victory over Queenstown Girls’ High on Friday

defied the odds and came from behind to claim a 2-1 win

McLaren said she’s pleased with how the team had continued to step up
“We came into this tournament very excited for the season, and we started well with a win in our first game, and we’ve been stepping up and delivering every game,” she told SuperSport Schools Plus
“We had played in two tournaments before this one
McLaren’s players have had to dig deep and show their character
which they did in successive come-from-behind wins
She praised her side for never giving up and staying in the fight
and that took some guts,” McLaren said
We got the ball into the circle and made sure we got the outcome from our opportunities
The final day of the festival will see Sasolburg taking on Cradock High School at 07:00
adding that they’re also planning to “keep things simple”

The festival kicked off with two games on Thursday and then hit full throttle on Friday
with 10 matches being played at the Voortrekker Astro and New Horizon College
St Anne’s recorded a narrow 3-2 victory over the hosts
after an entertaining end-to-end encounter that offered spectators insight into what to expect over the next three days
The Wykeham Collegiate (TWC) registered their first victory of the festival
Coach Morne Odendaal believes his St Anne’s side is on a path to becoming one of the best teams in the country and they showed their intentions to achieve that status with a second win in as many matches when they overcame Sasolburg 2-0
They were aiming to make it three in three
they ran into an inspired Oranje outfit and went down 0-1
Oranje’s victory over St Anne’s came on the back of a high-scoring 5-3 win over Menlopark as Gys van Schalkwyk‘s charges opened with successive victories
Coach Nika Coertzen’s side produced polished performances against TWC and St John’s DSG
winning those contests 3-0 and 1-0 respectively
Menlopark was given a good run for their money when they took on St Mary’s DSG Kloof
They bounced back from their defeat against Oranje to emerge with a 3-2 win from a hotly contested afternoon clash
The Pretoria school showed their mettle by hanging on to win despite successive games against two top-ranked outfits
Voortrekker bounced back from their loss to St Anne’s in the festival opener and held their own when they went up against Noordheuwel and Our Lady of Fatima
They will be eager to improve on those showings to give their supporters something to cheer when they go up against Menlopark on Saturday
Spectators can also look forward to a mouthwatering contest between Eunice and St Mary’s Kloof on Saturday morning

Coach Andrew Benyon’s side faced Jim Fouché on Friday morning and shrugged off the determined challenge of the Bloemfontein side
They maintained that momentum in their game against Hudson Park
St Andrew’s College recorded the joint-highest margin of victory with a 9-1 walloping of Glenwood House on Friday morning
Cambridge matched that when they overwhelmed Curro Waterstone 8-0 on Friday afternoon
the East London school scored a narrow 1-0 win over Montana in their first outing of the festival
Grey College was one of the teams with a single match under their belt
they went up against Pearson and beat them 4-2
Coach Dallan Phillips’ side is one of the outfits to look out for in the festival

A 62-year-old mother and her 64-year-old high school sweetheart were brutally attacked and killed with an axe in Sasolburg in the Free State
The South African reported the body of Annie Liebenberg (62) was found in one of the outside rooms with her hands tied
while the body of her high school sweetheart
It is believed Michael was overpowered by a worker and was then taken to his deceased mother’s house
not far from the house he shared with Liebenberg
said they believed Michael was targeted first
“We believe that Michael was first murdered
Yolanda said they became worried on Sunday after their mother and Michael did not respond to any messages
“We noticed that both of them were last on Whatsapp on Friday at around 13:30
We realised something was wrong as we could not get hold of either of them.”
Maryke said they rushed to the house along with Michael’s children
“They had to climb over at the back yard and then saw the door was open.”
and only upon searching the entire premises the lifeless body of her mom was found in a room used for storage
“She was still tied up and had several open wounds caused by an axe and knife.”

it was clear that their mother had put up a fight
“The police told us that it was clear from the scene that my mother
who is a very strong and independent woman
Michael and his vehicle were still missing
“While the police and roleplayers were investigating on Sunday night
they came across a motor vehicle fitting the description of the missing VW Jetta in Zamdela
but shooting between the suspects and the police ensued
forcing the suspects to evade arrest by running on foot.”
“The police followed the information that led to the discovery of the body of Michael
who was found at an address in Lategan Street.”
this was the house of Michael’s deceased mother
Maryke said only a few items were missing from the house
“We believed it was their gardener and the domestic worker who is involved in their murder
Both of them were previously caught stealing
we pleaded with my mother not to take the workers back as we had just found out that the workers at pleaded for food.”
Maryke said on the day of the murder the gardener was taken by Micheal to his deceased mother’s house
“We believe Michael was overpowered by the gardener at his mother’s house
They killed him and then drove with his vehicle back to the house where they attacked and killed my mother.”
She said she would describe her mother as a survivor with a beautiful heart
“My mother was an independent woman who was a single mother of my three siblings and me.”

A white elderly woman was caught on video by ANC volunteers while removing the party’s campaign posters on 14 May 2024 in Sasolburg
Declaring “ANC is rubbish” after her actions
the incident has led the ANC Fezile Dabi Region to file a criminal complaint
the acting secretary of the ANC in the region
emphasising the constitutional right to campaign freely and contest elections without interference
The party asserts this action is not just a mere infraction but a violation of the political rights safeguarded by South Africa’s constitution
The ANC has swiftly lodged a case at the Sasolburg Police Station
demanding a robust response from law enforcement to this and similar acts of vandalism against their campaign material
decried the act as a blatant disregard for the legal and democratic process
highlighting the intention behind this act to disrupt the ANC’s campaign ahead of the decisive 29 May 2024 elections
“It’s a clear attempt to undermine our democratic process,” Pietersen said
underlining the belief in the ANC’s imminent victory and the fear it instils in political adversaries
