Authorities across 10 agencies also seize guns and drugs and claim people they arrested are undocumented
More than 300 law enforcement officers from at least 10 federal agencies raided an illegal after-hours nightclub in Colorado Springs early on Sunday
arresting more than 100 people authorities said were undocumented immigrants and seizing guns
More than a dozen active-duty military members were detained as well
The federal Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) posted a video on X of the post-raid scene, with dozens of partygoers holding their hands up. Another video showed dozens of people fleeing the building through its entrance after federal agents smashed a window
The DEA Rocky Mountain division said agents with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (Ice), the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), homeland security, the US army’s criminal investigation division and the Colorado Springs police had joined the raid
“200+ inside an underground nightclub in CO Springs had their illegal party upended this am,” the DEA posted. In a separate post, the agency’s Rocky Mountain division added: “Nothing good ever happens after 3 a.m.”
Jonathan Pullen, the DEA agent in charge, told reporters at a news conference that some detained service members were patrons while others were working as armed security guards at the underground nightclub
the DEA agent in charge of an early morning raid on a nightclub in Colorado Springs
briefed the media on Sunday.Pullen said the nightclub had been under investigation for several months for alleged activities including drug trafficking
most of the drugs hit the floor,” Pullen said
adding: “Colorado Springs is waking up to a safer community today.”
Pam Bondi, the US attorney general, heralded the raid, saying on X: “As we approach his 100 days in office @POTUS Trump’s directive to make America safe again is achieving results!”
Colorado Springs is home to a number of military installations
including the Cheyenne Mountain space force station and the headquarters of US space operations command
Sunday’s raid is the latest DEA crackdown in the area this year
a raid on a “makeshift nightclub” in Adams county
led to the arrests of 41 people living in the country illegally and another eight who had been in the club
David Olesky, a DEA special agent in charge, said at the time that an uptick in enforcement was due to a “renewed sense of purpose” under the Trump administration
After Sunday’s raid, the owner of the building where the party had been held told Denver7 he had no idea an underground nightclub was operating on his property
“I’ve never even seen a lot of trash in the parking lot to even suspect that anything like an after-hours nightclub is going on
Moon said the space is usually rented out for birthdays
They’re not allowed to do any illegal activity,” he told the outlet
In a statement, Colorado Springs’ mayor, Yemi Mobolade, said the investigation and the execution of these warrants were “the result of clear evidence of serious criminal conduct” and that residents deserved “to live in a city where the rule of law is upheld and where illegal behavior is met with firm and decisive action”.

the population of Eureka Springs totaled 3,964
The latest count is a little over half that at 2,211
Such a decline most often would mark a community drifting slowly toward eventual extinction
But today's Eureka Springs and environs have 182 hotels
That's according to the popular Trip Advisor site
Eureka Springs Historical Museum tells the roller-coaster story of this quirky community
starting with the long Native American presence
Then came white settlers' promotion of the local springs' healing powers in the late 19th century
When Eureka Springs was incorporated in 1880
it ranked among Arkansas' 10 largest cities
after the Great Depression and World War II
a slow revival began as the city's wealth of Victorian architecture became an allure
while also serving as a bastion of the state's gay and lesbian communities
who had treated wounded soldiers from both sides after Civil War battles in Northwest Arkansas
he bottled and sold the curative water from one of five dozen local springs as "Dr
The new community thrived on that era's enthusiasm for spring-water resorts
A listing of Eureka Springs businesses in 1898 suggests the prosperity
the young city "had become one of the most popular health spas in the USA." A display focuses on the array of souvenirs that visitors bought
fossils and the quintessential Ozarks souvenir: the cedar outhouse salt and pepper sets."
The museum's "Burning Down" exhibit is devoted to four devastating fires that swept Eureka Springs in 1883
They were the worst of the city's "18 recorded fires in the 19th century
Described as "a castle in the wilderness," the Crescent Hotel was spared the flames because it was built in 1886 atop West Mountain
Said to be haunted and still welcoming guests today
it closed at various times as tourism here dwindled after World War I
It was bought for $40,000 in 1937 by medical charlatan Norman Baker
Baker "had already operated two phony cancer hospitals in Iowa
though he had no medical background," a display reports
which supposedly provided treatments for almost all ailments
Initially welcomed as a new business by the struggling city
Baker touted his secret elixir involving corn silk
He was arrested in 1940 for mail fraud and sentenced to four years in federal prison
Another kind of chicanery was portrayed in "Pass the Ammo," shot in 1988 mostly in Eureka Springs
described as "a satirical film about the hypocrisy and greed of televangelism." Stars included Tim Curry
Visitors are invited to have their picture taken with a recently restored artifact
The antique is a galvanized steam cabinet from the Palace Hotel and Bathhouse
Its vapors of 115 to 140 degrees Fahrenheit "caused profuse sweating and elevated body temperatures
A sign requests: "Speak with a staff member if you would like a photo in the steam cabinet."

An XXL lumberjack who needs a shave is here to clean up the mess
Actor Brock Morse plays the living embodiment of the Brawny Man in spots from Joan Creative that drop today
In a battle of bearded, plaid-shirted mascots, he’d wipe the floor with Busch Guy
“Casting the Brawny Man was no easy task,” Joan creative director Tom Francesconi tells Muse
“We went through multiple rounds of casting
From the second that Brock Morse showed up
His natural charm and charisma embodied so much of what we had pictured for our legendary lumberjack character
It also didn’t hurt that he was a 6’7″ giant who happened to have the initials B.M.”
“It was important to us in reintroducing his character that he not only embodied the strength and resilience of the Brawny brand
but had a big personality that was entertaining and relatable to modern audiences,” Francesconi says
Hunky brand characters are all the rage these days, with Duracell’s macho scientist and Target’s weirdly hot Santa serving as prime examples
“Thinking beyond just our films and with a lens on culture is ultimately what led us to make his character a real-life person rather than the animated mascot tropes of the category,” Francesconi says
“It was important to create opportunities for his character to show up in the real world and interact with both our audience and relevant cultural figures in real time moving forward.”
He adds: “By the time we had finished our shoot
crew and even craft services were making the “Brawwwwny!” call at every turn
Hopefully a great sign of things to come.”

Deputies with the Martin County Sheriff's Office responded to a report of a suspicious person at the Holly Springs United Methodist Church on US Hwy 64, which led to an arrest. Officials say deputies arrived and approached a subject who was walking around the church carrying two backpacks, and when deputies attempted to identify the subject, the subject fled to a wooded area on foot.
Deputies pursued and apprehended the suspect in the woods, and after a search of the backpacks, deputies located around four pounds of marijuana, $3,800 in cash, and a Glock 9mm handgun with a 30-round magazine, per officials.
Authorities identified the suspect as Malik Damien Moody, and an investigation continues into Moody's possible involvement in a vehicle pursuit out of Bertie County hours prior.

Before Arnie’s Antiques and More had a storefront
It beat through late-night sorting sessions with coin jars and magnifying glasses
It echoed in conversations about gold certificates and silver eagles
passed between Carl Garza and his kids as they sat cross-legged on the living room floor
inside three storage units and across nearly every inch of the Garza home
that pulse has found a permanent home — and a front door — in Glenwood Springs
Arnie’s Antiques and More quietly opened in early April
but the roots of the business go back decades
It’s a continuation of something they’ve been building their entire lives
“This has been a passion of mine since I was 13,” Carl said
I’d buy bags of change from banks and stay up late going through them
And snowball it did — into a collection that took over their home
“We had antiques everywhere,” Cynthia said
‘We’ve got to do something with all of this.'”
What they did was build something that feels both nostalgic and new — a place where history is honored
It’s all captured in their motto: “Preserving the elegance of the past
It’s a tribute to Carl’s grandfather
a man who played a central role in his upbringing and whose values helped shape the store’s identity
“My grandfather meant the world to me,” Carl said
“Naming this after him just made sense.”
That tradition of honoring family is woven throughout the Garzas’ story
they’re continuing to build something rooted in legacy
every item has been researched and tagged with care
You won’t find mass-produced replicas passed off as vintage
“I don’t want someone buying something that looks old but was made last year,” she said
“These items were crafted with skill and intention
What started as a childhood hobby grew into something that filled entire rooms
“Carl would bring home coins all the time,” she said
going through rolls we picked up from the bank
watching YouTube videos about what to look for
the Garzas began collecting more than just currency
Their travels around Colorado — mostly work trips for Carl’s asphalt company — became opportunities to stop at antique shops
glassware — anything that told a story came home with them
“Our house was overflowing,” Cynthia said
even the walls were part of the collection.”
It was how much of it there was — and what to do next
“Our collection outgrew everything,” Carl said
“Even our first attempt at a storefront on Grand Avenue was too small before we finished moving in.”
That’s when they found their current location at 251 Soccer Field Road near Glenwood Springs Middle School — a large
open space that offers more than just room to display
From the moment you step inside Arnie’s Antiques and More
it’s clear it isn’t a resale shop
Typewriters with keys that still click like they did 80 years ago
The walls are lined with pieces that feel like they’ve waited decades to be noticed again
“This isn’t stuff you find at a thrift store,” Cynthia said
The Garzas are exploring plans to expand the space into a local auction house — something the valley currently lacks
They’re also considering event rentals for weddings
“We’re not just trying to sell things,” Carl said
“We’re trying to keep things from being lost — to landfills
the mission has always been about giving items the space they deserve — and giving people the chance to experience them
“There’s something special about seeing someone light up when they connect with a piece,” she said
“You can tell it reminds them of something
That’s what this is all about.”
The Garzas have received a warm response from the community
even before hosting a formal grand opening
One longtime acquaintance recently visited the shop
You’re going to do great,'” Cynthia recalled
“And that just stuck with me.”
who has seen firsthand the weight this project has lifted from her mother
“My mom’s cried to me more times than I can count about the amount of stuff they had to go through,” she said
I can see it in her face — she’s proud
Their Grand Avenue location remains open by appointment only
while the main showroom on Soccer Field Road is now open to the public as they continue preparing for a full grand opening
the store is fulfilling its mission: preserving the past
and making it accessible to anyone who walks through the door
“We want people to feel something when they’re here,” Carl said
or just appreciation for how things used to be made.”
“This isn’t just our story anymore

these eight Arkansas towns set the stage for a summer getaway full of lasting memories in 2025

the beloved and definitely not ageless Josephine Tussaud Wax Museum… and Hot Springs Wiseguys arena league football
arena-style football organization are hoping that their upcoming inaugural season is a natural fit for what the town’s tourism boosters have long called “America’s First Resort.” The Hot Springs Wiseguys are set to debut at Bank OZK Arena on Saturday
high-scoring football to make the case that they could belong as a fixture on the Hot Springs entertainment landscape
“It’s going to be loud; it’s going to be packed,” said Wiseguys General Manager Chris Goodman
“Fans are going to be right on top of the field
We’re going to be able to hold almost 4,000 people there
and it’s going to be a fun place to play and to see a game
I think a lot of people are going to be proud of what we’re building in Hot Springs.”
Visit Hot Springs CEO Steve Arrison has seen more than most when it comes to entertainment and sports events in the Spa City
Arrison has helped steer two major expansions of the city’s convention center in his 27-year career
“It’ll be unique for Hot Springs; we’ve never had a football team like this
I’m excited like everybody else to see the set-up and what it’s like,” he said
The upstart Arena League’s interest in locating a franchise in Hot Springs makes some sense to Arrison
The team’s eight-game summer schedule could pair nicely with the town’s well-earned and long-established to-do list
the tourism season starts with Memorial Day
and they play again once in June and twice in July
I think it’s another great opportunity for visitors and residents of Hot Springs alike
something else to do at night when you get off the lake or as part of your summer vacation
so you have plenty of time to get off the lake or walk out of the national park or Magic Springs
and you’ll still have time to eat and go see a football game,” Arrison said
The players taking the field will have plenty to prove in a state where football is synonymous with the Arkansas Razorbacks
Teams are made up of former college athletes and professionals who are navigating the often fleeting
wild west world of non-NFL professional football
Wiseguys receiver Aaron Dilworth qualifies as a seasoned veteran in the alphabet soup of leagues that have dotted the nation
He’s played in the Canadian Football League
who played college ball at Division II Texas A&M-Kingsville
said playing for a brand new organization is exactly where he wants to be–for now
“I think everybody’s goal is to be moved up
and that was my motivation every game to go out there and show what I can do,” he said
and eventually they’ll come get you–ball out and they’ll come get you–I think that’s on everybody’s mind
there’s not a lot of guys getting those opportunities
but it’s just a handful of guys that get that chance
it’s a blessing to get these opportunities.”
named after Hot Springs’s seedy history as a haven for quasi-illegal gambling and as a getaway for prohibition-era gangsters
with franchise operating budgets at about $300,000 a year
meals and training while they take home a modest $300 to $400 per game
but Goodman says an agreement is expected to be finalized and announced early this summer with a local ownership group
Backers of the league are quick to note that they’ve got realistic
They’re not looking to emulate an NFL franchise or even the Indoor Football League
where teams have budgets 10 times as large as the Arena League
locally supported organization in small markets like Hot Springs are better served with different comparisons
Wiseguys fans might instead take a look at potential league rivals
Duluth General Manager Steve Walters absolutely beams when talking about his franchise
which took home the league’s inaugural championship trophy last year
The whole community could be proud of it; it was ours,” he said
you’d probably think of this as a lesser version of football than what you’re used to
this is a far more exciting version of football than you’ve ever experienced
it’s so high scoring…it’s boiled down to pure adrenaline and action.”
Walters makes it clear that the goal is to build support and sustainability
and we have some good numbers in this league,” he said
“Our team averaged 2,300 people per game with more than 10,000 people tuning in each game on our broadcasts online
on our local TV station and our local sports radio station.”
Central Arkansas sports fans of a certain age might remember the original (and unrelated) Arena Football League and the Arkansas Twisters
The Twisters played from 2000 to 2009 in that league’s lower-tier AF2 before the leagues collapsed
The team rebranded and moved to Texas before eventually folding
While the league and team ultimately faltered
the Twisters drew an average of 13,766 people per game in their first season at the then-new Alltel Arena (now Simmons Bank Arena) and brought in more than 5,000 fans per game for all but the final season in Little Rock
Those are figures that might make minor league front offices in any sport envious
Arena-style football has survived and occasionally thrived in fits and spurts across the nation since that era
Its greatest emissary was undoubtedly NFL Hall of Fame quarterback Kurt Warner
who spent three years in the arena football circuit before earning a roster spot on the St
Louis Rams and leading the team to its first Super Bowl title in 2000
Nintendo 64’s “Kurt Warner’s Arena Football Unleashed” made the case pretty successfully that there’s something borderline subversive
about the glory days of Arena Football and N64
Goodman was barely in elementary school when the Twisters last made their run at indoor football glory
but it’s hard not to notice how the team might have influenced his future
Goodman has spent a great deal of his adult life playing
coaching and in the front office of small-scale
The sudden emergence of the Hot Springs Wiseguys onto the gridiron might be an unexpected
but it’s one that he’s been building toward for a long time
“I was really young when the Twisters left
My first-grade teacher’s husband actually played for the Twisters
I remember just how awesome the family-fun entertainment side of it was,” he said
“It’s something that has always stuck with me through my entire career
and it doesn’t even have to cost a whole lot
and it’s an entertaining Saturday night in Hot Springs.”
The eight-game season runs from May 31 through July 26, and more information can be found here at hotspringswiseguys.com

Impala Platinum (Implats) announced on Monday that it had signed an agreement with Discovery Green to provide its Springs refinery operation — Impala Refineries — with 90% of its energy from renewable sources
South Africa’s mining companies are scrambling to slash CO2 emissions to retain access to key markets such as the European Union, which are erecting green tariffs and other regulatory walls as part of a wider decarbonisation drive in response to climate change challenges.advertisementDon't want to see this? South Africa’s mining sector is also keen to reduce its exposure to Eskom’s escalating tariff rates
which threaten to make many shafts economically unviable
“The strategic renewable electricity contract will significantly reduce Impala Refineries’ Scope 2 greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions — by more than 852,000 tonnes of CO2e over the initial five-year period of the power purchase agreement (PPA) — and yield cost savings,” said Implats
“Scope 2 emissions” are indirect GHG emissions arising from the purchase of electricity
Platinum group metals (PGM) producers such as Implats must also strive to contain costs in the face of a roller coaster commodity cycle
“In a cyclical commodities price environment
agreements such as this PPA are a significant lever in our ability to control input costs to ensure long-term business sustainability,” said Implats CEO Nico Muller
Refineries are very power intensive and reducing their mounting electricity costs while greening their energy supplies are crucial measures to arrest South Africa’s spiral of deindustrialisation and attract foreign investment.advertisementDon't want to see this? Remove ads
having passed the 300-day mark without having to resort to the rotational nationwide power cuts known as “load shedding”
But its surging tariffs and heavy reliance on coal are big turnoffs to investors
Implats’ new PPA will kick off in 2026 with the delivery of 130,000MW of renewable energy per year to Impala Refineries
The Minerals Council SA estimates that South Africa’s mining sector has at least 7.5GW of renewable energy projects in various stages of development
130,000 MW = 130 GW would exceed Exceed Eskom’s total capacity by more than double
Hartmut : I think they meant 130,000 MWh of energy
Publications often get power and energy mixed up
If I had a rand every time someone mixes up energy and power units …
It is 130,000 MWh per year (obtained from the Mining Weekly article)
Energy and power … important to remember the difference
Eskom wants to further burden the consumer by charging them for using rooftop solar
Can we please get some sanity into planning
The details of the power supply should be shared in this article
How many MW of solar/wind and how many MWh of battery
At a glimpse it can be assumed by a reader that 90% of the power demand is now supplied from renewables…that’s a very big ask of renewables and surely the IPP wonr oversize and still get a retun
Maybe includes wheeling from wind somewhere
