failed to clear their lines and Jordan Gray continued his fine start to the season by driving the ball under the keeper for his seventh goal of the campaign Both teams had chances to grab a third goal but it stayed 2-2 until time added on when Lhanbryde pounced on the break to win a corner from which Craig Harrold steered the ball home for what looked like a winner Craigellachie responded when Charlie Anderson launched a free kick into the box player manager Mark Thomson flicked it on and Mills got the final touch to level the game again Home keeper Ross then produced a fantastic save right at the end to deny Lhanbryde the most dramatic of winning goals as a pulsating match finished 3-3 Thunderton proved too strong for bottom side Seaforth in the Elgin derby Both teams had opportunities the second half and got an impact when Ethan Matthew who had only been on the pitch less than five minutes Four minutes later the super sub provided another assist to set up Anderson for his second goal of the game Orford also got his second from a Scott Ross pass and a third Thunderton player doubled up in the closing stages when Mallinson collected a good kick from his keeper Darren Wood down the left wing and and he cut inside to drill the ball low to the keeper’s right hand side from 20 yards to seal a 6-0 victory Hopeman’s match against RAF Lossiemouth was postponed THERE are 258 RDP houses in the Eastern Cape that have remained unoccupied for years the Democratic Alliance has found in a response to a question in the provincial legislature In a reply to a legislature question DA shadow MEC for Human Settlements Sanele Magaqa asked the MEC for Human Settlements she said houses had been standing empty for eight years in two towns – 25 in Jamestown in Walter Sisulu Municipality and another 79 in Ugie in the Elundini Municipality a total of 154 houses had been vacant since 2013 For the reply, click here this was mainly due to beneficiaries that had relocated to bigger cities in search of decent employment with their families is that the beneficiary should report their pending relocation to the department so that the house can be allocated to the next beneficiary the relocating beneficiary is supposed to be moved to the list of another housing project This indicates poor planning and oversight on the part of the Department of Human Settlements [pullquote]It is inhumane to allow houses to stand vacant while thousands of families live in horrific conditions[/pullquote] He said when houses are not occupied they often become vandalised and stripped resulting in fruitless and wasteful expenditure “It is inhumane to allow houses to stand vacant while thousands of families live in horrific conditions The Eastern Cape has is a backlog of over 600 000 houses Poor planning of this sort does little to tackle the ever-increasing problem of informal settlements,” Magaqa said “Vacant homes due to relocating beneficiaries are part of the reason why shacks continue to mushroom close to city centres When a beneficiary relocates to another city in search of better employment those people often resort back to living in informal settlements while the government-subsidised houses stand empty.” municipalities publicise beneficiary lists at their local offices for public scrutiny “This simple step would go a long way in eradicating some of the problems experienced in the Eastern Cape.” He said he had written further to Sauls-August and to the chairperson of the legislature’s Portfolio Committee on Human Settlements to request that communities have proper access to information about their houses by having the beneficiary lists made public “The Democratic Alliance is committed to creating access to housing for those in need We believe that the process needs to be speeded up.” Talk of the Town is the weekly newspaper of record for the community of Ndlambe and serves readers in and around Port Alfred has concluded this year Langeni Mountain Pass between Ugie and Mthatha the decision to close the 17km pass was taken after numerous messages were received from people warning of imminent danger said the concerns were endorsed by the department’s road engineers He added that the route will be closed as from Wednesday saying drivers will be diverted to alternative routes He said: “Preliminary investigations indicate that the damage is partly due to the steep and mountainous topography where this road is constructed as well as the heavy-duty trucks which are often fully loaded with logs and farm produce “This has resulted in the formation of transverse and longitudinal cracks and displacement over the years appear to have been eating away on the very ground the pillars of the pass are anchored in have seemingly fast-tracked the damage on the road.” Binqose further said the department has given inspectors a month to attend to the problem and find a quick solution “We know that this will be slightly costly to both businesses and motorists They [the drivers] can use the R61 from Mthatha and go via Ngcobo,” he said Attempts to reach trucking and logistics companies that will be affected by the currently under review by Aberdeenshire Health and Social Care Partnership the only one which could save it – “investment and modernisation” – has already been identified as a costly exercise And campaigners believe all the proposed options put forward by the AHSCP will result in the ultimate closure of the hospital former hospital manager Margaret Morgan claimed staff are “frightened” for their jobs but keeps in close contact with her former colleagues – and admitted last night she felt like she had “abandoned” them just as trouble hit She claimed: “They’re not being kept informed about the chance of the closure “Many of them are looking for other jobs due to the fear of being redeployed to another area they can’t manage and some have already left to the uncertainty – who can blame them for looking for other jobs “Since January staff have struggled with the possibility of the Ugie Hospital closing and were told a decision would be made in June “No-one has received any updates about what is happening leaving staff morale at rock bottom.” Ugie Hospital provides treatment for patients who require further rehabilitation after being discharged from Aberdeen hospitals before going home The 111-year-old facility currently has 14 inpatient beds in the Ravenscraig Ward had space for 14 more but was boarded up in 2011 Ms Morgan claims that since her “strong team” started leaving for other jobs amid the uncertainty posts have been unfilled – resulting in the closure of beds She said: “The sad thing is they are closing beds due to the staff shortages as they aren’t advertising these posts “I retired in December and my job hasn’t even been advertised “The staff are asking if this was the plan to close all along – forcing the Ugie into a position of not enough staff to make their decision easier to close it She handed in a petition with thousands of signatures against the closure to Anne Stirling chairwoman of integrated joint board which oversees the AHSCP in April but says she has still not had a reply Last night North East MSP Peter Chapman called for better communication from the partnership “It is worrying to hear reports that staff morale is so low,” he said it is not surprising given the uncertainty over future of this facility “It is vital that there is good communication with those who work at the hospital “We cannot have a situation where people are simply left in limbo wondering what is going to happen “We have seen a gradual erosion of local health services in the north-east in recent years and I hope that we are not about to lose another site.” assured staff and the wider community that the review findings will be published on August 22 for the public and staff to see He said: “Ugie currently runs at one of the highest occupancy rates in Aberdeenshire and will continue to do so “Two of our beds were closed for a very short period of time due to a particular set of circumstances.” The head of north-east health partnership has insisted no decision has been made about the future of a hospital Ugie Hospital in Peterhead could be closed as part of review of Aberdeenshire Health and Social Care Partnership’s local services Like many other minor units it has struggled for staff and funding in recent years and is currently under review The integration joint board (IJB) is due to discuss the unit – which provides rehabilitation care for elderly patients before returning home from Aberdeen Royal Infirmary – next month there is some speculation online that a decision has already been made behind closed doors AHSCP’s manager for north Aberdeenshire Mark Simpson insisted all options were still on the table He said: “I can categorically state that a decision about the future of the Ugie Hospital building has not been made and will not be made until the October 30 meeting of the Integration Joint Board “I think it is really important to clarify that even if the decision is taken to close the Ugie building the services which are currently provided at Ugie will continue.” Concerns have been raised online that a decision has already been made with some staff members claiming they would be moved to Peterhead Hospital on November 4 One former employee said it was not “acceptable” that staff were not being kept properly informed if a decision had been made behind-the-scenes She claimed: The staff of the Ugie weren’t even informed properly about this “I’ve been fighting against this for a long time and I’m absolutely disgusted by it and I know other people who are also concerned “I care a lot about the staff and the hospital – this is really not acceptable.” Mr Simpson urged people to attend a drop-in session on plans for Peterhead’s new care village next week and said it would be the ideal chance to find out more about health care provision planned for the town community centre and eight supported accommodation bungalows Claymore Homes is seeking planning permission in principle for the proposed development at South Ugie. Housebuilder Claymore Homes is seeking planning permission in principle for the proposed major mixed-use development at South Ugie. The site is also expected to feature space for a nature reserve, business opportunities and a potential future train station. The application has been submitted to Aberdeenshire Council following a number of “positive” consultation events with stakeholders and local residents. Architecture firm Halliday Fraser Munro said the development would create “much needed housing and community facilities” and provide Peterhead with a “sustainable long-term expansion benefiting future generations”. The proposed housing development will include a mix of detached, semi-detached and terraced properties along with flats. It is expected that 25% of the new homes would be affordable. Halliday Fraser Munro said the blueprint includes an “excellent mix” of house types from bungalows up to large six-bed houses to “meet the needs of a wide range of people from the first-time buyer, families or those looking to downsize”. Potential new shops, takeaways, offices and community facilities could feature in a neighbourhood centre due to be constructed in the middle of the site. Meanwhile a traditional village green area is also expected to feature in the heart of the development that will give residents space to meet up, play or exercise and it could even host a community orchard. Pedestrian links will be formed to allow future residents to easily access Peterhead town centre and the nearby Formartine and Buchan Way. Locals can also look forward to visiting the proposed Southern Park that will be located to the south of the development site. Early concept plans show that the park will feature walking routes, play areas and seating for visitors to enjoy. The planned nature reserve would have a number of paths allowing residents and visitors alike to explore the space with ease.
