A festival of merrymaking awaits with music and loads of other entertainment in store
North West Economic Development MEC Bitsa Lenkopane says they will create a flea market where informal and formal traders can display and sell their items.

The North West province town of Vryburg is set to come alive as it hosts the provincial horseracing event later this month
The event is aimed at boosting the tourism and hospitality industries
to bring many visitors to to the small town
And it is expected to attract tourists from all over the country
North West Gambling Board (NWGB’s) accounting authority
He said originally the event was set to take place in October 2024 in Zeerust
it got delayed due to what he called unforeseen logistical and financial challenges
“A subsequent rescheduling for February 15
The initial postponements were due to a combination of factors
These include lack of public participation
Qalinge said the event was moved from Zeerust because the initial site in Motswedi village was not ready
The site required extensive clearing to create a race track
“Preparations at the identified site were hampered when the Department of Public Works’ machinery
deployed to clear the land for a race track
experienced significant breakdowns and could not be repaired or replaced in a timely manner
Insufficient funds and sponsorships also contributed to the delay in ensuring a successful event.”
He said the provincial gambling board has partnered with Mompati Horse Race for Change
The latter is a traditional horse racing events organisation in the province that aims to bring Lobelo La Dipitsi to fruition
“We are delighted to bring Lobelo La Dipitsi back on track through our partnership with Mompati Horse Race for Change,” said Qalinge
He said their expertise and commitment to social transformation align perfectly with the board’s vision for the event
“This is not a contract with Mompati Horse Race for Change
It is a partnership that will ensure that all the North West horseracing communities take part in this inaugural event.”
Qalinge said the collaboration was dedicated to the upliftment of communities through impactful avenues
He said there were targeted programmes like food security and poverty alleviation projects
Promoting responsible gambling and combating illegal gambling included too
“The NWGB is committed to supporting organisations that are making a tangible difference in the lives of individuals and communities,” said Qalinge
“The collaboration is expected to leverage the resources and expertise of these organisations to amplify their impact.”

the NSPCA was alerted to a pitbull attack which sadly claimed the life of the victim
The owner of the pitbulls agreed to surrender all five of his dogs to the SPCA
It is important to note that the role of the SPCA movement is to protect and prevent animals from cruelty and suffering
Ours is to act in the best interests of animals
the NSPCA was once again expected to clean up the mess caused by irresponsible ownership as well as do the dirty work of other authorities who we believe are failing to enforce their mandate
As a result of the state failing to adequately enforce their mandate
the NSPCA had to step in and make the necessary arrangements for the animals
This included ensuring that the dogs were signed over by the owner
procuring a private veterinarian and incurring the costs to humanely euthanize the dogs (as there is no SPCA in Vryburg) as well as transporting the carcasses to the state laboratory
None of the aforementioned services are the responsibility of the NSPCA and should have been carried out by the state
Our SPCA officials further exposed themselves to the risk of working with aggressive animals as well as exposure to the possible rabies disease in order to protect those animals when nobody else would
After careful consideration by all the authorities involved
the three dogs involved in the attack were humanely euthanized
Apart from the dogs having a history of human aggression and posing a serious danger to people and other animals
there was also a rabies concern expressed by the state
The NSPCA also recognized the threat of a revenge attack against the owner and the dogs by the community as a major welfare concern
Powerbreeds in the wrong hands are a recipe for disaster
It is often found that the animal and innocent people are the ones who ultimately pay the price for irresponsible ownership
All dog owners should be aware of a judgement handed down from the Supreme Court of Appeal in the Eastern Cape that has major implications on the rights and responsibilities of dog owners in South Africa
which was handed down on Friday the 11 September 2020
upheld the legal principle which holds that the owner of a domesticated animal is held strictly liable for harm caused by that animal and that the injured party does not have to prove negligence on their part and a victim of a dog bite can claim damages from a dog owner without having to prove fault
the SCA said that there are only three recognised defences to such a claim:
The case will now be handled by the local SAPS
If you are as passionate about animals and their well-being as we are
consider supporting our causes by donating
But will you be the one who stands up for animals
Animal welfare isn’t always in the spotlight
but it changes lives – for every neglected
ensuring animals across South Africa are protected
The equation is simple: the more supporters we have
you can help ensure that no animal suffers in silence

Naledi owes R672-million as of December 2022

“These thugs grab people’s bags

they would approach him and try and get the attention of the driver and at the next moment
they try and see if the vehicle’s doors are locked or not
If the door is not locked they open the door and grab whatever they can find in the vehicle and run off.”

“It can't be true that we have to wait for that information from the Auditor-General
the committee had already agreed with the Auditor-General this past Friday that we must write a letter to them.”
Officials of the troubled Dr Ruth Segomotsi Mompati District Municipality in North West are under the microscope following the R38 million used to build a shack call centre
The call centre in Vryburg was the centre of attention last week
The district municipality allegedly constructed a duplicate call centre with public funds which were meant for service delivery
DA Caucus leader in Dr Ruth Segomotsi Mompati District municipality
said the party wrote to the Special Investigation Unit (SIU) to investigate the matter
the North West Provincial Legislature Portfolio Committee on the Premier
summoned municipal officials to clarify the call centre
disclosed the municipality was paying R258,974 for eight Lenovo desktops
R524,435 for car radios in the emergency vehicles
R16,253 for one Huawei Router and R24,910 for fibre and internet used at the call centre
Jonas said some of the documents taken by the office of the Auditor-General for investigations on the call centre tender would only be retrieved at a later stage
thus they could not be provided as evidence before the committee
Chairperson of North West Provincial Legislature Portfolio Committee on Premier
the committee had already agreed with the auditor-general this past Friday that we must write a letter to them
Such letter has been signed off by me yesterday (13/11)
so we are waiting for that information,” Motswana said
He also said the figures of items used at the call centre did not make sense and the fact that supporting documents were not handed over to the committee did not help matters
Mayor Motseokae Maje said after being aware of allegations levelled against the municipality through media platforms
he directed the municipal manager to initiate an investigation as the matter involved several administrations.
“We shall cooperate with law enforcement agencies
We are at no stage prepared to defend or protect anybody
We shall avail whatever that is in front of us.”

In the town of Vryburg in the far western part of North West province
business is picking up pace at the local Oranje Toyota dealership
boast a brand-new dealership at a new premises that is hardly a year old
was appointed about five months ago and a new Dealer Principal
Harry Kruger (not related) is in the hot seat for only a couple of weeks now
Harry is no stranger to the brand or Oranje Toyota or CFAO Motors for that matter
Being a Toyota man for the past 22 years of his motoring career
he was up to now the Sales Manager at Oranje Toyota in Klerksdorp for the past seven years
“Klerksdorp prepared me in a way for Vryburg
Spending most of my career at urban dealerships in the big city environment
Klerksdorp has a more relaxed and rural feel in comparison with the city
Vryburg is a much smaller town but nonetheless one with its own momentum and dynamics
The new dealership boasts the latest Toyota look and feel and is one of the first dealerships where the used car section
is integrated into the complex and behind glass instead of the open under roof approach
It adds a feel of quality and professionalism to the used car section with a neat set-up that makes clients feel welcome and important,” says Harry
“The new dealership is now located on the Kuruman road
At this moment it is still classified in the small category by the manufacturer
but I can see it might change to a medium sized classification
“We have a large geographical operational area that includes towns like Taung
Jan Kempdorp and a few more close to Schweizer-Reneke
Harry says he believes in doing the basics and doing them right
“I am positive and proud of the team at the dealership
It is now more important than ever before to keep our customers happy and updated on the issues at hand,” he says
and it helps keeping the business in top gear while we struggle with getting enough stock for customers
The good rainfall now and during the previous season
creates more financial security in the agricultural sector
Rather than buying parts elsewhere and doing home repairs and services to save a few bucks
we see a return of vehicles to our workshop,” says Harry
Harry reckons Vryburg is bakkie country making up around two thirds of their sales
He says the Hino 5- to 8-ton range trucks are also in demand with farmers
with the bigger cattle farmers in the region who will opt for bigger carriers
“We have a service facility for trucks and a trained technician,” says Harry
And what does he do for fun when he is not selling Toyotas
I travel every weekend between Klerksdorp en Vryburg because my family still live there
and my children are at school on that side
the outdoors and spending time with the loved ones,” Harry says

Residents of Bray outside Vryburg in the North West are blaming government for a delay in the completion of a local housing project
They say they were never told why contractors abandoned the project
The task to build about 1000 housing units
Community representative Bob Namusi says government is to blame for the situation
“There were three contractors appointed for this project
So one contractor was coming in and out and we did not have any explanation why the contactors left the project incomplete
We blame the government because in terms of our little [limited] understanding there was poor monitoring of progress on their side,” says Namusi

The North West Provincial Legislature’s Portfolio Committee on Human Settlements is considering a criminal complaint against those involved in the project
Chairperson for the committee Aaron Motswana says
Should we establish that houses were not complete but monies were paid
we are going to open criminal charges.”
“We are not only going to lay criminal charges against the contractor but with the department also
Because there are people who are in collusion with these particular contractors
Despite their non-performance they will continue to be paid,” adds Motswana
the Mangaung Metro Municipality says its role in ensuring that residents of the metro have housing is to make land available for housing
Municipal spokesperson Qondile Khedama says
“Well the city is doing its part in making sure that people get ervens with bulk services because this is [the] contribution that we can make as the City
The other thing that we do is make sure that out of the 7 000 ervens that we have already
Now we are going to accelerate this because one of the things we have done is to make sure that even the rental stock is in a condition that it accommodates people and particularly those at a certain category of human settlement or housing.”
Some Bloemfontein residents join forces to maintain aging infrastructure:

“I am based in Lichtenburg and look after the sales and general running of the dealerships in the three towns
I try to spend a few days a week in Vryburg and the odd day when needed in Mahikeng where our Dealer Principal of another brand in our group
“We have incredible General Managers for the workshops and parts departments who oversee all the activities in this regard at the dealerships in all three towns
without whom we won’t be able to give the best after-sales service in North West
They relieve some of the pressure emanating from these departments on me as Dealer Principal and allow me to focus more intensively
with the help of my brilliant sales managers
“Notwithstanding the multi-franchise set-up
we also have a system in place that focuses on each brand
The two brands allow us to cater to the needs of a wide variety of customers across the spectrum

the situation seems to rectify itself although it is a slow process
