The remote town of Akkeshi, Hokkaido is home to a Japanese whisky distillery that looks to use local ingredients and resources to create a Japanese version of Islay’s smoky malt whiskies. .

So, I hit the streets of Akkeshi, which is this chill little city in Hokkaido. It’s got that small-town vibe but with a twist. I mean, you got the ocean on one side and mountains on the other. Talk about a view! I strolled down the main drag, Chuo-dori, and it was buzzing. People everywhere, like ants on a sugar hill.
