While Islay was the inspiration for Akkeshi, the Akkeshi team’s ultimate goal is to evoke the local terroir, create an “All-Hokkaido” whisky or “Akkeshi All-Star” whisky that has a sense of place.

Then, I decided to hit up the local market on Sakae-dori. It was packed with fresh seafood and veggies. I was in heaven! I grabbed some crab and thought, “This is gonna be epic.” But then, I realized I had no cash. Ugh! I had to do the walk of shame back to the ATM.
